Well, wanted to ask bestie if they want to go to Finland with me to visit Pavel since he was going to sire a third litter and I wanted to see him before he passes away of old age. He's getting up there in his years. He's now 11. I miss him terribly. Oh well.

Pavel's current co-owner cancelled the litter plan.

To be honest, it would be an awkward to ask anyway because bestie abhors hunting. We haven't talked yet about whether she detests recreational hunting, commercial hunting, subsistence hunting, wildlife conservation and all the nuance in between (bioethics and environmentalism in itself are also very diverse!) since animal liberation politics and abolitionist views on animal exploitation is multifaceted.

I do know bestie is an anti-capitalist and a vegan. But neither positions are indicative of someone's views since a previous partner is also a vegan for ecological reasons, and she directed her abolitionism at industrial agriculture, recreational entitlements and other systematic issues. (For instance, commentary about moose-human conflicts would be centered around how moose benefits from timber plantation system and logging of old growth-forests to the detriment of other wildlife. Or how the root of human-wolf conflict is seeing the wolf as an adversary and a competitor and farmers' or hunters' refusal to accommodate and co-exist.).

Pavel was rehomed to a hunting home where he participates in an eradication program to remove the invasive raccoon-dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides) to preserve native wildlife (such as waterfowls, reptiles, amphibians etc). And the most efficient way of removing raccoon-dogs is using dogs.

(Ironically, raccoon-dogs were introduced to regions west of East Asia because of the economic blockades against the Soviet Union, in which only fur, gold, grains and other commodities were allowed to be exchanged with the anti-Communist bloc. But that's a post for another day.)

Hence the social awkwardness.

I would like to visit Pavel some day. Just need someone to assist with navigating the public transit and the airports. 😊

Meet the newest addition Omen (they/them) they go by Ome for short, there a bit more reserved as of now so haven't learned a bunch about them. So far they've told me that there a skateboarder and that they do a very cool type of dancing called flight acrobatics!

I've been back from my trip and back to the plushie sanctuary and it's been nice seeing all my plush friends and adding a new one to the crew.

you know i think part of why i love bg3 so much, and its characters so much, is how unique they are in animation. i am so used to shit like, dragon age, where every single npc loops the exact same conversation animations and its a reminder of oh. ur a video game character. and it makes me struggle so hard to get into it and immense in their writing

but in bg3, all these lil 3d models move in their own way, each expression and movement is unique to this particular dialogue... dragon age would never do gales silly sewing hand movements and you know it

I rewatched xxxHolic while I was away (and found somewhere to watch Season 2/the OVA) and came out the other side with two self inserts, only one of which I've managed to draw up reference for fdkgjdfk I'll get to the other one eventually.

Quick lore for WaTanuki under the cut

He's a young Tanuki that Domeki found injured and nursed back to health. After falling in love with Domeki, the Tanuki starts using his transformation powers to turn into Watanuki, who he perceives to be Domeki's most precious/favorite person.

At first it's just mimicry for disguise sake, staying near Domeki on his walk to and from school, clinging all over him the entire time (driving the real Watanuki crazy). Then he starts actually mimicking Watanuki, making Domeki lunches exactly as he's seen Watanuki do, mimicing his voice, his silly movements, copying him in every way.

Eventually Domeki realizes that the Tanuki is trying to take Watanuki's place and tells him to knock it off in his usual blunt manner. The next day the Tanuki doesn't accompany Domeki to school, but is still there when they arrive, granted in his Tanuki form and looking rather sad. Watanuki, ever the worrier, thinks Domeki's just being an uncaring asshole and runs off during lunch to go find the Tanuki.

The Tanuki decides this is the perfect time to finally become Watanuki, and locks the real Watanuki in the school's outdoor storage shed, taking his form and playing the perfect Watanuki act to fool Himiwari and Domeki.

It isn't until they're about to leave school that Domeki notices a leaf in WaTanuki's hair. Removing it turn him back into his spirit form, causing Domeki to demand to know where the real Watanuki is.

After freeing Watanuki from the freezing shed, the little Tanuki begins to cry. He just wanted to become Domeki's most precious person. Someone everyone liked, someone Domeki loved, someone with a lot of friends.

Domeki kisses the little Tanuki's forehead and assures him he is precious to him, just as he is.

After that, Domeki commonly wears a Tanuki charm, which is his little Tanuki in disguise, either as a necklace or bracelet. The Tanuki isn't as strong as the Pipe Fox, but serves the same animal companion purpose.

He also sometimes still transforms into WaTanuki, though just for fun or to tease Watanuki.

Not even joking reading xenofiction as a young kid fundamentally changed how I viewed the world and the creatures in it. Prior to reading stuff like Watership down, Call Of The Wild, Warriors, Redwall, and a bunch of picture books, I was firmly a believer that Humans Are The Best.

Nobody was like "Hey u know animals have feelings right?" Instead I only saw animals being treated as disgusting pests or stupid idiots.

Then I read those books and I was like. "Wait. Wait. Wait. These guys?? Are just like me fr!?" Sentience is a whole diff argument ofc but my empathy tripled the moment I realised everything (and everyone) is only acting in their own experiences.

Reading the warrior cats being scared of Monsters (cars) I was like "OH if I was a tiny kitty I would be so scared of cars!" and now whenever a small animal is 'aggressive' I know it's bc they're scared of something they can't understand!

Anyway I will forever read and write xenofiction because the moment I forget that I'm just a smarter bit of the food web is the moment I become less kind.
