Okay okayyy hear me out!

What ifff whoever this unknown god is (Bakur's god) was Lucy Frostblade's original god. If not hers then her ancestral og god. And she is aware of who this god is (clearly since she turned in the paperwork with a redacted name) but she's still getting her spells and power as a cleric from this god of sorrows and winter.

And maybbbeeee believing in one god and receiving spells and power from another one has consequences.

They mentioned that both her cleric god before and the one she changed to are somehow related to the Giants lore (one being her ancestral god, the other one having their arcane scrolls and stuff written in the Giants' language).

So this is Lucy's punishment for basically two timing a god (?). She probably angered one or both of them which is why she tried to change her god by the end of the school year but before that it was too late. Kristen was the sole follower of her other gods so when she switched, they died. Lucy's situation is similar but more dangerous because whatever happened to this unnamed god, they still have believers.

So now Lucy is stuck in the astral plane with no way to escape unless they bring this god back. Maybe that's why the Rat Grinders are so obsessed with Kristen and whatever she does to keep creating these new deities.
