Oh, no. Please, gods, no. But, Qrow just sighs. He can't prevent the inevitable. "What, kiddo?"

Yang is already giggling. "Blew!"

He stifles the groan and just laughs: she's too young to learn about the reality of telling awful jokes in public. He can't bring himself to introduce disappointment to her this early in her life.

Well... more disappointment, anyway.

"Hey, Uncle Qrow! What kind of music do windmills listen to?"

He's in it now, isn't he? "What kind of music, firecracker?"

"I heard they're huge metal fans!"

He's gonna hide that damn joke book as soon as she puts it down.

“I’m just glad we finally got to go on a real date,” Blake said as she plopped down on the couch.  She fell against Yang’s side, and Yang draped an arm around her shoulders.

“Yeah, it was a nice break from fighting Grimm and saving the world all the time.”

“I wish we got to go out dancing more often.”

“Me too.”

They had just gotten back from a night out, and the sun was already starting to peek its way over the horizon when they returned. Still covered in sweat and glitter, they opted to relax for a little bit before they would have to get ready for another day, a day that would come far, far too early.

“Next time, though, maybe we could just do dinner? Maybe a movie?”  Blake suggested.  “Not that this wasn’t fun, but it was really loud.”

“And the DJ wasn’t great either,” Yang laughed, then paused and grinned.  “Wait, ‘Next time’?  Does that mean you want to go on another date?”

“Of course I do.”

“Yes.”

Blake giggled, and Yang pulled her a little closer.

“It’s just, we’ve never actually been on a normal date before this,” Yang said.  “Every time we’ve tried, something has gone wrong.  So, I guess I’m just glad that I lived up to the hype, you know?  It’s one thing to be my teammate, it’s another to…”

“It’s another to what?”

“To be my girlfriend.  If you want.”

Blake smiled up at Yang.  “I do want that.”

The words got stuck in Yang’s throat, so instead she just beamed back at Blake, so relieved and shocked that she would want to be with her.  She’d been so afraid that, once they finally had the chance to sit down and act like normal people, Blake wouldn’t like the Yang underneath it all.

But she was still there, nuzzled against Yang’s side, a smile on her face though sleep started to claim her.

“Goodnight, Blake.”  Yang said softly, leaning down to press a slow kiss to the top of her head.

“Goodnight,” she slurred back.  She shifted so that she was a little more comfortable and drifted off to sleep as the sun continued to rise.

Even though she was exhausted, Yang couldn’t fall asleep.  She was so excited to have another date with Blake, another chance at life beyond the fighting and the fear.

Whatever came next, whatever battles came her way, Yang knew she would fight harder than ever before.  As long as Blake believed in her, what couldn’t she do?
