So here's what's been nagging at me recently: It's offhandedly mentioned in season 1 that Skye is a high school dropout. Does she ever like. Get her GED? At any point in her life?? Does it happen offscreen or something? Or did this government institution/gang of fugitives hire (and eventually temporarily give the position of director of the entire agency to) someone without a high school diploma. Yeah SHIELD is fictional, but you still need a diploma to work for the government.

Also that's another thing. Does SHIELD pay her?? In season 1 it's a recognized branch of the government, so they definitely pay their employees at that point, but I doubt she has a bank account. I don't think she even has a social security number. I'm pretty sure she's not even an American citizen.

#edit: yes she would've had a SSN when she was a kid. I'm talking about as an adult. yknow. after she completely erased her identity.#THIS IS A JOKE. i think it'd be funny if SC actually slept a normal amount for a hollowhead and the other hollowheads are just so constantly stressed that they don't know what sleeping normally is like

I've seen GX several times, so obviously, I know this. And we all know this. But it's just really hit me the last few nights and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it.

The fact that Banner knew. He knew what happened to Atticus the entire time. Because he was the one who led Atticus to the shadows in the abandoned dorm, and he was also a Shadow Rider.

He knew.

And that just really fucks me up when I think about him being such a present figure in the lives of the kids in the first season, like, he's such a prominent figure in Alexis's life at the school. And the entire first half of the first season her entire motivation, her entire purpose is trying to find even a single clue about what happened to her brother, and hopefully, actually finding him.

And it's not a secret that she's actively searching for him, not among the main cast at least so I don't find it to be much of a stretch that Banner could've found out. But when if he didn't know that, just the fact that Atticus's little sister is now a student at this school. And Banner knows full well, not just what happened to her brother, but what he did to him -under orders or not- and like he's not really around much when Atticus is actually present and conscious, but if he's the good, decent man the kids believe he is and that he's presented as, how could he ever look Alexis in the eye without the guiltiest conscience. How dare he look her in the eye and not feel the weight of that guilt.

And like, I love Banner. I adore Banner, I think he's just delightful, but I just can't get passed this at the moment like it's just come crashing into me like a truck and I don't know, I think we should talk about the damage he did to this family more. Like I need to see some actual acknowledgement of it from the show, personally, but we never really did necessarily and I'm just losing my mind a little bit over here hahahahahaha 😭

I almost compulsively write Shadow as a GUN agent, not because I think that's what he'd want to be, but because I think it's what he'd force himself to be.

They say to keep you friends close but your enemies closer. There's the belief that he can prevent what happened to him by acting as a force of change within the organization. A job with an active combat role, so he can use his abilities to fight "the bad guys" and protect the innocent people of Earth. Having someone else to point his fists in a direction, to tell him how to fulfill Maria's wish so he doesn't have to enter the dark, muddy waters of figuring it out for himself. It's a sort of. . . mercy, to allow himself to fall under the lead of someone else, even if he knows he should remain vigilant about it.

Maybe there is a small portion of him that wants it, but he's not ready to grapple with that just yet.
