Here’s a breakdown of when the villains/antagonists meet the heroine (as in, the Barbie character) in Barbie movies, just for fun (not for fun, I have a very specific point to make).

So you can see, the majority of villains/antagonists meet the heroine in the movie. Of the 12 that don’t, 4 are carrying over from a previous movie into a sequel (Laverna twice, Raquelle, Eris). Of the remaining 8, 3 are classmates or former classmates (Raquelle, other Raquelle, Patricia) and 1 is just doing her job (Madame Natasha). Of the remaining 4, 2 begin the movie as antagonists (Gothel and Madame Carp). So that leaves 2 who actually begin the movie in a position of trust and power and reveal their true motivations along the way: Preminger and Baron von Ravendale.

Baron von Ravendale does not have anything specific he wants to do to Kara. He wants to destroy/eliminate/whatever (I forget the wording he uses, if any) the royal family, bc he thinks the throne rightfully belongs to him. Kara’s a part of that family, so he’s against her, but it’s not about her. She’s just there. Even tho he’s peeved that she got his superpowers, once he gets his potion remade he doesn’t even care about that iirc. She’s basically irrelevant to what he actually wants to accomplish, except for her becoming a hero and fighting him.

And then there’s Preminger. Unlike the Baron, Anneliese is central to Preminger’s ultimate goal. He wants to marry her. Of course, he wants to be king--but if that was all that mattered, Genevieve was already a widow, and she proves serviceable to him once he’s decided he doesn’t need Anneliese and attempts to have her killed instead. But his first choice was Anneliese, who, and I can’t stress this enough, he’s known since she was a child. He’s been working toward this goal since she was a child. (I doubt they meant it to be taken that way, similar to the “10 years we’ve been rusting” / “bloom until his 21st year” thing in BatB implying the Beast was cursed when he was 11. Sorry that’s what you actually told me, it’s not my fault if you didn’t think about what that meant.) I don’t think they were close, but this was someone Anneliese trusted. She’s happy to see him when she thinks he’s there to rescue her. So his betrayal of her, his attempt to kill her when she’s no longer useful to him, is very, very personal and specific in a way that none of the other villains really come close to, imo.

So like, I can’t think it’s funny to see Preminger turn into a stupid meme. I can’t. Bc I can’t stop thinking about how fucked up it was that he did that to Anneliese. I can’t stop thinking about ppl claiming to love PatP, to love Anneliese, and then... just laughing at her villain like he isn’t a complete and utter monster who betrayed her trust, her mother’s trust, the whole kingdom’s trust and ALMOST got away with it all. He was going to marry Genevieve like he didn’t bankrupt her in the first place, like he didn’t just murder her daughter, and ppl think that’s somehow funny? It isn’t. No amount of camp can make Preminger funny to me. I know I take things too seriously, but how can you look at everything he does and just excuse it bc he sings a half-decent song? What is WRONG with you?

Lemme tell you I barely even remember this movie bc I watched it on the side while playing something far more interesting.

Also,, the movie was— really cringy at some points, and I had to do my best to pay attention 😳 so I literally know nothing about the characters rn 😔

Keeping her identity a secret is one thing, but Zoe hid her personality, even her ethnicity (she's British, not American) from her neice, maybe her whole family? And do Renee's parents know she's Bristish, or do they know 'American' Zoe too? As for Agent Dunbar, I was really, really hoping that he would be the 'stern mentor that learns to believe in them' trope, not the 'Evil McObviousBadGuy' trope. You know, I don’t think I appreciate Spy Squad enough sometimes. (Yes I know I still haven’t made my long SLA post yet I’m working on it okay right now we’re talking about SS).  I think it’s got some problems story-wise, but it has a lot going for it, and I stand by that.

Characters: I how encouraging and brave Barbie is throughout the whole movie. She really believes in what they’re doing as spies, which helps sell her character. I think that for Barbie, a brand/icon that is all about careers, it is a good choice to make her as enthusiastic about her career as possible. Teresa and Renee’s banter is great too; I would’ve mistaken them for girlfriends if Lazlo wasn’t in the picture. Actually, you know what? Teresa’s polyamorous. She’s dating Renee AND Lazlo. There we go. Speaking of, Lazlo’s pretty likable as well. They could’ve made him super snobby and stuck-up for being the tech guy who has to work with the newbies, but instead he really likes the girls and even helps them take down the bad guy in the end. Patricia was also so fun to watch as the “uncatchable villain” and a surprise turn-around. I mean I don’t like usually like snapshot redemptions, but I think hers was done alright considering the running time. And of course, we can’t forget Percy and Violet; obligatory pet sidekicks AND awesome robot friends. I love them.

Animation: Oh my GOD I love the visuals in this. The colors? Beautiful. The character animation? Fluid and expressive. Everything just looks so good. The scenes that show off the visuals best are definitely the action scenes. My favorite is probably when the Squad goes undercover at the ball and then end up chasing Patricia. 

Music: The soundtrack is really good. All the songs are bops. The score is pretty awesome too. I LOVE that guitar riff on the main action theme (the music heard in the opening scene and at the end).

Story: Like I said before, I don’t think this is the strongest Barbie movie in terms of plot. It’s predictable, with Patricia being the Cat Burglar and Dunbar being a traitor. The pacing is also a bit weird from time-to-time. Honestly, it feels a bit more like setup for another movie or two or even a short TV series. I also can’t fathom how half of the tech even works. The EMP weapon for example - I’m pretty sure you can’t use gemstones to power a weapon like that. Also who does I-3 actually work for? The US Government? The entire world? It's kind of confusing. HOWEVER I know I shouldn’t think too much about it; you usually just have to accept the logic of the world when it comes to spy flicks.

Lessons/Messages: As is tradition with Barbie movies, this one has great lessons for children. I really like Barbie’s arc of learning to visualize success (”see it then be it”). While it’s not a method that works for me personally, it could be a useful tool for gaining confidence, and that's a good thing to teach young kids. The message about what it means to be part of a team is really great too.

I think overall, the "problems" I have with Spy Squad are really just me nitpicking and wanting it to be something it just wasn’t. For what it is, though, it's pretty good; it's creative, action-packed, and fun. Honestly, child me would've gone CRAZY for this movie, because I've wanted a spy movie since I first played Secret Agent Barbie on GBA. So thanks for that Spy Squad 😎

Poppy doesn't hold back to kick out her neighbors since she feels they steal her spotlight. Leos tend to care a lot about appearances and what people think about them, so it is not a surprise when Poppy manipulates a reporter to be the cover of a magazine as the Family of the Year. However, their relationship is far away from perfect and she often bullies her son.

7 Tammy: Virgo

People born under the sign of Virgo are the most perfectionist in the zodiac. They are extremely organized and will always do things well done. Of course, they will always stand out among the crowd thanks to their hard work. Virgos are often among the best students in the class and will collect prizes along the way. 6 Baron Von Ravendale: Libra

Baron Von Ravendale, the antagonist in Barbie in Princess Power, is an example of that. He starts the movie as the wisest advisor of the kingdom. 5 Gothel: Scorpio

The villain kidnaps Rapunzel when she was a baby and locks her in a tower. Gothel is full of secrets, and Rapunzel discovers many things about the woman who raised her.

3 Preminger: Capricorn

Preminger is the antagonist in Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper, and the villain has many characteristics of Capricorn. People born under the Capricorn sign are ambitious and rational; they often enjoy money, and they always have a plan to achieve their goals in life.

Although those are great qualities, they can become harmful when there are no limits. Preminger is an example of that. The villain wanted to rule the kingdom by marrying a royal. Preminger does everything to achieve his goals, including planning to steal the kingdom's gold supply. He always has an evil plan to achieve his goals.

2 Snow Queen: Aquarius

The Snow Queen, the antagonist in  Barbie in the Pink Shoes, aims to have more power and rule the ballet world. It is difficult to know what the villain is thinking, but she always has a plan due to her quiet personality. The queen doesn't show much affection for anyone and also shows some arrogance.

This character can represent some of the worst traits of Aquarius. People born under this sign struggle to show affection, and, despite their quiet looks, they are always planning something. They are not sociable people and can look arrogant because of that.

1 Odile: Pieces

Odile is a secondary villain in Barbie of Swan Lake and teamed up with her father to turn Odette (Barbie) into a swan. Odile has a complex relationship with her father, and they don't get along all the time. She is also shallow and becomes moody when things are not exactly as she wants.

HELLO and WELCOME to the BARBIE SEXYMAN TOURNAMENT

who is the sexiest barbie man? i dunno fam, id say [host bias]- (if you know me, you know who it is , but i DIGRESS)

I have compiled a comprehensive list of 64 Barbie Men who are totally contenders for the Sexyman Title. This has come from scrolling the wiki, the Bad Barbie Discord, and of course, the silly Google Form I sent out however many days ago

It's split out into four separate brackets of 16- A, B, C, and D. I wAS going to have a special sorting like. Prettyboys and. uh. i have no clue what else but- It's completely random. This means it could have the worst or the best matchups and i think its gonna be really funny.

SO! Without further ado, here are the four brackets!

We will go two matchups per day, each lasting about a week, so more people can see them and so i dont FORGET so quickly. As you can probably tell I really like this blog hfhghfdh Barbie's always been sort of there earlier in my life, mostly now (I even had a Barbie scooter when I was younger), and seeing someone who is likes Barbie as much as I do makes me go ":D"! When you said you retcon Princess Power and Spy Squad, how would you go about retconning them/rewriting them?- That PCS Anon

With Princess Power, it’s technically more of a soft reboot/retool. I like the movie a lot... or rather, the potential it has, since the execution left some things to be desired. So basically, after the movie I actually have Kara and Corinne start losing their powers (this also does away with the dumb pet sidekicks, they just go back to normal) and gain a new power set. I also hate Wes so he becomes a villain later on. So while the movie still happens, the way I play the fallout from it means it ends up basically being a new thing. So I can have my cake and eat it too.

For Spy Squad, again, it happens just as in canon... but the reasons behind things are different. I view the entire movie as basically one giant test, from the moment they enter the Hollywood sign until Agent Dunbar’s arrest. Patricia actually works for I3, and is a part of it. Dunbar is not actually a borderline supervillain, but basically just playing one--again, as part of the test. (He’s about to transfer to another branch, so they won’t see him for awhile anyway. And by the time they do, they’ll know it was all part of the thing.) It seems crazy elaborate, but this is a spy agency, so I think it can just squeak by the threshold of believability. Again, having my cake and eating it too.

I think they’re the only movies that I kind of pull a sharp left from what they were actually doing. I have some weird headcanons, and sometimes I kind of fudge things so they line up better, but those two are almost complete overhauls. And they’re still canon! Just... what happens afterward changes things a lot.
