You Make Me Live by Renai_chan {E}
Once upon a time, Jake met Rooster. Eight years later, he's a freshman at the US Naval Academy, and Bradley Bradshaw comes back into his life. Except, they've both grown up, and with growth, paths diverge.
bombs are falling everywhere (it's heartbreak warfare) by blood_mocha_latte {T}
He doesn’t really remember the first time that he met Jake Seresin. (Or, the childhood friends to enemies to lovers to rivals to lovers we all desire, coupled with angst with a happy ending and a side of icemav)

After the death of his mom, Jake moves in with Bradshaws.
come hell or high water by orphan_account {G}
Bradley Bradshaw, determined to live up to his father's legacy, enlists in the Navy right out of high school, leaving his best friend, who is also probably the love of his life, home with his godfather to finish out high school. He definitely isn't worried about Jake at all. Jake is definitely fine. He definitely isn't worried about that thing that happened at the airport that they never actually spoke about. And he definitely isn't worried about these feelings in his chest that keep threatening to spill out of him. Everything will be fine, right? Or, how Bradley falls in love, finds a home, and remembers how to be happy again.
Always by greenstuff {E}
Jake meets Bradley for the first time when they're eighteen. This is the story about how they fall in love, break up, and then spend years finding their way back to each other. A modern Persuasion, if you squint a bit.
in this world, it's just us (you know it's not the same as it was) by happypuppys {_}
He changes in the bathroom quickly, brushing his teeth and fixing his hair before he walks out, rolling his eyes when Bobby wolf-whistles. “Really objectifying me.” Bradley grabs his phone, and Bobby laughs. “You just look like you need objectifying.” Bobby replies, laughing again when Bradley wrinkles his nose. “Don’t worry, I’ll leave that to Jake.” “I don’t even like him.” He argues, but even he can hear how much of a lie that it sounds like. or, the story of Jake and Bradley, from childhood to what comes after the mission
change is alright by haridwar {M}
Jake bet fifty-fifty on whether he was going to enjoy this conversation and stepped up to the passenger side door just as the window rolled down. He was greeted with a warm, smiling, moustachioed face which took him off guard. Though Jake didn’t recognise the driver, something about him verged upon familiar. His smile faltered as his gaze flitted over Jake’s face, eyes tightening in a way Jake didn’t want to overanalyse, but it made him seem no less friendly overall. “Where you headed?” “Closest ranch,” Jake replied, trying to keep his tone neutral as he made the snap decision to not identify himself for reasons he would rather not think about. or... little bit of homecoming, whole lot of drama
I’m alright with a slow burn by lesbiseresin {M}
Maverick’s eyes lower to focus on the figure whose head barely reaches Copperhead’s hip, a blonde boy that looks to be around Bradley’s age. “And this must be Jacob.” “Jake,” the boy corrects. He only crosses his arms when Copperhead taps his shoulder in a silent reprimand, but Maverick doesn’t seem to mind. He laughs and exchanges an amused look with Copperhead before moving his hand into a similar grip on Bradley’s shoulder. “Well, Jake. It’s nice to meet you. I’m Maverick. This is Bradley.” Bradley blinks owlishly at them both until Maverick nudges him. “Hi.” (alternatively: jake & bradley over the years)
racing ghosts by stardustsunflower {T}
Jake hasn’t seen Bradley in almost two decades, and hasn’t seen Maverick for longer than that. But here they are again, the people he’s supposed to work with to save the country or the world or something, and hopefully not die in the process. Bradley is still just as angry as he was back then, which Jake doesn’t want anything to do with anymore. He got caught up in that mess years ago, and he isn’t about to do it again. Really. He’s staying out of it. So far out of it.
be the ocean where I unravel by whimsicule {T}
He’s not even thirty years old. A lieutenant in the United States Navy. A highly-decorated aviator with two air-to-air kills. And he’s suddenly gone ahead and become scared of the goddamn sea. What a fucking joke.

On the day of Jake and Bradley's wedding, three best friends look back on how they got there. Or the Seresin-Bradshaw guide to laying under the stars through all stages of life
(i'll still look at you) like the stars that shine by hugheschierdaddy {T}
When Jake Seresin was four years old he met Bradley Bradshaw. Jake and Bradley fall in love over the course of their lives, with the tree house present for each big moment.

Prev anon from before. Yeah, I get what you mean. :/
In that case, tell us all about your fave Kyle Broflovski. Wholesome hcs?
yeah…honestly just sucks. i’m getting through it though, i’m just really jumpy ig.
as for kyle headcanons? i have a few
He has an extremely close relationship with his mother. He’s a mama’s boy and would sell his kidney for his mother. His father, he’s not AS close with, but he loves his father. They have a healthy dynamic
He gets hiccups real easily
Hes really good at sewing, his mom helped him make his High Jew Elf King outfit and ever since he’s just associated sewing with something he liked to do with his mom
He’s an angry crier, doesn’t cry often, but he has to be absolutely livid before he cries
After the toilet papering incident, he felt kinda bad about not at least giving art a shot, turns out he genuinely enjoys painting. Namely spray painting. He’s really good at spray painting space scenes and such
Hes terrified of centipedes
He’s actually a very nurturing person, but he has to really know and care about you in order to let this side show
He does swim, he’s canonically a good swimmer and can also hold his breath for long amounts of time, so he would likely do swim in the fall, basketball in the winter and lacrosse in the spring
He did football for a year, likely his junior year, but he didn’t have time to do swim and football, and he enjoyed swim more, so he picks swim over football
He’s not a good reader unless he’s genuinely enjoys the topic, otherwise he’s awful at reading
He’s the kind of person to drag his feet about getting a pet but then if you catch him with said pet he’s treating it like his child, snuggling with it, playing with it and doing that stupid baby voice with it, but claims he “never wanted a pet”
He was very tall and lanky in his freshman year, it was really awkward for him because he would get huge growth spurts and be super clunky because of it. Think of a puppy whose paws are too big for its body. That’s Kyle.
He’s a sleep cuddler. If he’s sleeping in the same bed as someone, he absolutely just holds them and when he wakes up he gets really embarrassed
Sends Cartman Happy Father’s Day things
His love language is quality time
Honestly doesn’t know how he ended up in honors. Things just come naturally to him, he doesn’t actually try that hard in school
He sometimes goes to choir concerts or drama shows because he finds them nice. He’s canonically a person who enjoys theater somewhat. (Lion King?? remember?)
Vienna by Billy Joel makes him cry
He thinks Taylor Swift is overrated. He respects her as an artist but extreme Swifties piss him off.
He ends up learning to play guitar, but doesn’t really play often. He’s not a music kinda guy.
He’s a rainbow baby (I made this hdc before but y’know)
Went to law school before he ended up deciding it wasn’t for him, he ended up going to a Colorado school instead to become a child psychologist (or a teacher, idk)
idk if these are good but yk

-"Yeonjun.....May I be your girlfriend?" -"I mean you kinda already are.......But we can make it official?"
You played the other night in your head over and over again that once you woke up you quickly pounced over towards your desk, sliding out your photo strip of you and Yeonjun in the Photo Booth, just to make sure it wasn't a dream. This was real. This was actually happening.
Your heart was beating rapidly just thinking about it. You were head over heels that you didn't even know where to begin on how you felt. You felt happy. It was too soon to use the 'L' word of course but you were infatuated - well......for the time being.
And again, this was a feeling you never wanted to be involved with, at least not now or this young for that matter. You knew for times like these, always leads to heart break later on. It was rare to see young relationships survive this cruel world. But you will need the experience later on you suppose, to know how it feels and to be able to live with it because it can and it will happen again.
You placed your photo back in your book, shaking all the negative thoughts out of your head so you can smile at the good ones. Just live in the moment. Stop thinking about the future. And as of right now - get ready for school or you will be late.
"Shall I leave money for dinner tonight or are you going out again?" Your mother arched her eyebrows.
Your mothers new words caught you off guard, causing you to choke on your cereal. She was on to you. But jokes on her because you're staying in tonight, well not alone that is. Did you want take out again though? Maybe you should actually cook something this time around.
Before you could give it any thought, you settled on a 'yes' anyway so you could shop for groceries after school.
"I have to study tonight." You nodded while pursing your lips.
You wondered how often you could use that phrase as a coverup before being caught. It's not like you were doing anything bad but the past few nights, it was probably illegal how little time you had a book in your hand. Mia would take you one night and then Yeonjun would call dibs another - you were still trying to get used to this overwhelming attention.
It was bad enough you still owed him his movie night that Mia stole from him so studying wasn't that far from the truth - you were staying home tonight and money was very much appreciated.
"Tired of hanging out with your friends already?" Your mother giggled.
"No.......I just need to catch up with my schoolwork." You laughed, trying not to be obvious.
"Okay dear." She smiled nonchalantly.
"May I ask a question?" You began and your mother alerted her attention towards you. "How old were you when you met dad?" You asked as you placed your bowl of cereal in the sink.
Your mother took a sip of her coffee before answering. "When I was 20, I was a freshman in college and your father was a junior."
"Oh, so you didn't meet in high school?" You continued to ask. "Was dad your first love?"
"Oh- no." She laughed. "But he was the first one that I knew I wanted my future with."
"What's the difference than your first love?" You asked.
She shrugged not knowing herself. "You just know when you're with that person I guess."
You nodded understanding. "What happened to your first love?"
"Not sure....we went our separate ways after school." Your mother got up placing her mug in the sink as well.
"Do you think it's pointless to have a boyfriend in highschool then?" You looked up meeting your mothers eyes as confusion was written all over her face.
"What is this about?" She furrowed her eyebrows.
"Nothing, I'm asking for a friend."
"A friend?" She said with a sly grin, she knew you too well. "Well, I would tell this friend that having a boyfriend in highschool or college doesn't make a difference, you fall for who you fall for - no matter where or when it is."
"But, isn't long distance relationships known to fail."
"Not always......If you love each other, than you'll find a way to make it work."
"That's all it takes?"
"My best friend growing up is still with her high school sweetheart."
"Really?" You had more excitement in your tone.
"Yup..... and four kids." She smiled. "Tell your friend to relax." Your mother lifted your chin up and placed a sweet peck on your forehead. "Don't be late for school."
"And remember (Y/N), your father and I won't be home tonight, we have-"
"Your business party, I know." You tried not to sound excited since that just meant more alone time with Yeonjun.
You smiled and opened the door leaving your house, speaking of Yeonjun, he was waiting in your driveway playing with his phone as he leaned against the hood of his car.
"Hey cutie." He smirked once he saw you. He did it on purpose by this point.
"Wow, your promise is still holding up." You smiled. "You're early."
"Only for you of course." He leaned forward wanting a kiss but you put your finger to your lips and signaled towards your house.
"Right." He said and you both got in the car and took off.
"I think my mom knows we're dating." You spoke when you finally were away from your house.
"Is that a bad thing?" He asked.
"No." You sighed. "But I want to ease them into it because I never had a boyfriend before." You mumbled the last part.
"I'm honored and I promise I will make it worth your while." He flirted and reached for your hand.
"Can you stop that for five minutes before my whole face catches on fire." You rubbed your cheeks.
"But I like your rosy cheeks - it's cute."
You rolled your eyes playfully as he just laughed. "I'll give it a rest.....for now - anything for you." He looked at you once again. "Shit sorry." He laughed again.
Once he parked in the student parking lot, he pulled away his hand causing you to instantly pout - the ride not being long enough.
"Is it safe to kiss you now?" He asked before leaning forward once again and you blush nodding. You feel like you never could get use to this. His lips just fit perfectly with yours - like a puzzle piece.
"Hey lovebirds, time for school." A loud knocking echoed throughout the car causing you both to pull apart startled.
You saw Mia and Soobin laughing with some of their other friends.
"We still have ten minutes, leave them alone." A tall one with dark hair spoke.
"Don't encourage it Kai, Yeonjun is corrupting my innocent friend here."
Yeonjun rolled his eyes as you giggled about to open the door.
"Wait a second." Yeonjun popped out the car quickly running towards the passenger side.
"What?" You laughed to yourself.
"I need to open the door for my beautiful girlfriend." He spoke after he opened the car for you letting you finally step out.
"Must you say that every time." You arched your eyebrows slyly.
He smirked again, not answering and you hurried catching up with your friends. Even though being Yeonjun's girlfriend was official now, you still felt shy with the whole thing and he knew that. Things were different now but you weren't trying to make it obvious. At least not yet.
"I know you're still nervous." He whispered next to you as he had his arm around you.
"W-what? Is it that obvious?"
"Just remember what I told you.....it's no one's business."
"That doesn't stop people from talking."
"Who cares? We will be out of this place in a few months."
"A few months? - 8 months." You arched your eyebrows in amusement.
"That's nothing." He shrugged with a chuckle.
You finally let yourself reach for his hand, not caring what people thought anymore. He was right, you'd be lying if you haven't notice people staring by now so what was the big deal, people know and you couldn't let that frighten you. Even as small as a simple gesture of him holding your hand was already being noticed as you tried to make the peaceful journey to your locker.
"So I wanted to ask you, Homecoming is next weekend." Yeonjun broke through your thoughts by leaning up against your locker. "Want to go with me?"
"The dance?" You said nervously and he nodded confirming your question. "Oh um.....- I've never been to one." You said nervously.
He looked at you with sympathy. "They are usually boring but I have a feeling it will be different this year."
"How so?" You arched your eyebrows.
"Because of you."
"Pff....I swear to-" You turned back to your locker grabbing your books.
"Please go with me?" He drop to one knee pouting and you were quick to bring him back up.
You couldn't help but feel embarrassed from the attention this boy attracts but you laughed anyway. "Please don't do that. I'll go with you."
"That's all it takes." He smirked.
"Don't make me break up with you." You whispered back.
"I wouldn't let you go that easy."
"Yeonjun." You warned and he just laughed.
"I'll see you later." He kissed your cheek and left you alone as Mia approached.
"Did I mention how cute you two are?" She gushed.
"Only a hundred times." You closed your locker and began the short distance to your first class.
"And did he ask you to homecoming?" Mia asked before entering class.
"Yes." You blushed.
"This is gonna be so much fun." She cheered causing stares as you finally entered.
"What about-" You and Mia couldn't help but glance at Yuhyun as a conversation started, intending you to hear.
"Shhh- there is no way that virgin is winning homecoming queen." She said loudly looking at you wanting to hear. "Besides if that happens....we'll have to have a Carrie moment." They laughed in unison as they stared back watching you find your seats.
Mia was quick to defend you as you just sat down quietly. "What the fuck is your problem?"
"Nothing." She laughed nonchalantly.
"You're really that jealous?" Mia snickered. "That's sad."
"I'm not jealous of her." She made a face of disgust.
"Fooled us." Mia finally sat down in her desk.
"Me and Yeonjun go way back and if you thought for a second he actually has feelings for you than your dumber than you look." She snapped. "We just had a terrible fight and broke it off - he'll come crawling back sooner or later. It won't be the first time - Besides, who would fall for a girl like you?" She sat down turning her back towards you.
The professor entered starting class as you sat there with tears starting down your face. You knew better than to let her get to you but you hated this, hated her. You felt like you were playing tennis with you emotions because one moment you felt like all this drama wasn't worth it and just go back to being quiet and studious but once you're around him, you feel warm inside and happier than you could ever imagine. What should I do?
"Okay, let's pull out your homework-" You raised your hand.
"Yes." Mrs. Gim answered.
"Can I use the restroom?" Your voice was shaky.
She just nodded and you quickly grabbed your things making a speedy exit, hearing laughter from Yuhyun herself.
You rather just spend the rest of the day in the bathroom if you have to - what was the point of being a target.
"(Y/N) are you in here?" You heard Mia's voice but you didn't have the vocal cord to answer.
You saw her peeking under the stall. "Ahh there you are.....Please come out."
"I'm good here actually." Your voice was soft. "Why are you here, Mrs. Gim never lets two people go to the bathroom."
"I told her you felt sick." She dropped her backpack to the floor sitting on top of it crossing her legs. "Please don't let that bitch get to you. You're better than her and everyone knows it."
"I just don't know what to do."
"You have to understand something. Yeonjun is Yuhyun's first love - and trust me, I'm not trying to come up with excuses for her - but it's hard losing something special like that." She sighed. "I'm not saying I feel bad for her but I understand why she is acting this way."
"She's jealous. She was so torn up about this breakup, she had to lie to everyone that she broke up with him remember. Shes just really hurting right now and she's targeting all her anger on to you because she already sees how Yeonjun is with you and she probably misses it." You nodded even though she couldn't see you. "It doesn't mean she should act like a fucking bitch but all I'm saying is to not let her bring you down because you are the better person in this situation." She continued. "She wants you to feel this way so you will break up with him, show her you're stronger than her."
"Okay." You finally got up and opened the door. "Get off the floor before someone sees you." You smiled and she stood up giving you a hug.
"Doesn't bother me.......Now, no more crying. Popular girls don't cry." She handed you a tissue.
"Hmm, I'm not popular." You shrugged wiping your cheeks.
"Maybe not yet, but you're getting there."
"I will only be known as Yeonjun's girlfriend."
"Well.....I guess we'll have to let them know who you are." She smiled.
Mia is a good friend, you were lucky to have her, she would probably take a bullet for you if it came down to it and for years you blew her off. She was better than you. It was time to show your appreciation.
....
As much as it hurt. You weren't feeling up to a date night after all, Yuhyun had to ruin everything. Maybe a break from all this drama is what you needed. This wasn't how you pictured officially as Yeonjun's girlfriend would go.
"Skipping lunch again huh?" You knew better than to try and hide in the library because the troubled boy knew you by now and reading his face, he knew you were upset.
"I'm just looking for a new book."
"(Y/N)." You tried to suck up your tears that you already felt forming as soon as you saw him. Be strong.
"What?" You put on your best painless smile as you put the book back.
"Are you going to tell me what's wrong?" Or maybe he just knew you better than you thought.
"I'm fine, I'm just tired." You pouted cutely.
"Tired?" He glanced at you before looking down at his feet disappointed - he was hoping you would be honest with him about everything.
"Tired because I was thinking about you all night." You teased trying to lighten the mood or hide the fact you were hurting. But with that lame attempt, he didn't budge, he stayed quiet worrying you. "What? You can flirt but I can't?"
"What did Yuhyun say to you?" He asked again looking over at you.
"Did Mia tell you?"
"Why didn't you?"
"Because there's nothing you can do. If this is the price I have to pay to want to be with you then I guess I'll just have to deal with it."
"I told you I would take care of it."
"I know. But you're not responsible for her actions. Mia is right....she's just jealous and I'm sure she'll move on eventually."
"What did she say?"
"It's nothing I promise."
"(Y/N)?" He warned.
"Just what a normal jealous ex would say......you're with me to make her jealous and I'm stupid to think you have real feelings for me because it's not the first time you've had a bad breakup like this and saw other people." He nodded looking away from you.
You could tell he was angry but stayed calm for you. "I'm sorry. I'm gonna talk to her again and I promise she will stop this time, even if it involves her parents."
"Am I really worth all this." You didn't mean to sound dramatic but you generally wanted to know. Was all this drama really worth it to him?
"More than you know." He interlocked your hands leading you out of the library and straight to your locker since lunch was already letting out.
"So about tonight?" He began and all the feelings you had before vanished as you talked to your loving boyfriend. He cared about your feelings and it wasn't his fault things were bad, why punish him for that?
"6 right?" You smiled. "My house?"
He smiled back. "Okay. Shall we let your parents keep their money, I'll bring something?"
"Oh no, I'm cooking up a surprise."
"Oh really now." He chuckled leaning in before being rudely interrupted.
"-Excuse me Yeonjun, can I talk to you?" Yuhyun cut you off with a devilish grin.
"That's funny because I really wanted to talk to you." His tone was sarcastic and he gave you a sweet smile before taking off with Yuhyun.
....
"So what did she say?" You couldn't help but be curious.
"She said you were overreacting and she never meant to hurt your feelings." You grew angry immediately. "Don't worry I know it's bullshit."
"And I warned her I would go to her parents about her stalking me if she doesn't stop - and I know that will work because her parents love me." He sighed leaning his head back against the head rest. "I'm sorry you have to deal with this."
"It's not your fault. You must of been a great boyfriend that's all." He smiled at your response.
"I'll see you at 6?" He said before leaning in, letting you nod in approval before bringing his lips towards yours in a sweet tender kiss. You couldn't count the times he took your breath away with his simple gestures. You were his and the feeling still gave you goosebumps just thinking about it.
Before the kiss could get too carried away, you gently pulled away saying your goodbyes. "I'll see you at 6."
He looked at you with such softness in his eyes. He too felt infatuated with you as you did with him. You wanted this feeling to last forever but you know that was too good to be true. You knew this feeling will eventually fade the longer you're together - your sister as witness; but maybe it will be different for once.
You glanced around the house and quickly straightened up before tonight - not that your house was normally a mess, pretty clean actually; but you wanted it perfect.
Then you quickly got dressed into something casual and walked the short distance to the bus stop. You were just lucky you were pretty close to town so you didn't have to travel far. You made sure you grabbed your shopping bag as long as the money your mother left you on the counter. Your parents had some business party, so you knew they would be gone all night.
For the first time, you were glad your parents left you alone.

You placed your phone back in your pocket, getting off the bus. What does she even think you two will do? Dinner and a movie is normal for dates. Right?
You shrugged it off as you grabbed your shopping cart, and began walking down the aisle deciding on making bulgogi for dinner with curry and ramen. You weren't the greatest cook but you watched your mother make it enough - it was a simple way to go.
You gathered all the ingredients, aimlessly making your way through the aisle, while mentally checking off the list in your head to make sure everything you needed was stored in your cart and ready to go. And just like that, you found yourself just about finished, when something caught your eye, causing you to hesitate. Your heart started to race just thinking about it. Do you need them?
You bit your lip anxiously before you quickly pretended to text on your phone as a person passed you down the aisle. Why did you feel so embarrassed? Once you were alone again you glanced ahead at the product seeing the different sizes and variations they offered.
Condoms....
They sell them here? Just out in the open? You guess you never seek them out before, so you never even noticed.
You proceeded to grab the first item that was closest to you, being toilet paper - to not seem so suspicious as you continued to study the different brands and wording that was placed upon the small packages. Why were there so many different types for one purpose? Comfortable for the female? What does that even mean? Your inexperienced ass couldn't handle this.
"Did you need help finding anything?" You heard a voice next to you breaking your train of thought.
Of course in this time of embarrassing agony, someone had to offer assistance when usually they aren't around when you actually needed them. At least she was a sweet old woman.
"No, I'm just trying to decide on um......what toilet paper to get. Do I want to spend the extra money for the soft one?"
"It's definitely worth it." She smiled before walking away. Kill me.
You glanced back still feeling those butterflies flutter around. Should you get them? No, Yeonjun probably already has them. But what if he doesn't in the moment? Maybe you should just in case. But what size?
What were you even doing?
You weren't even at that step in your relationship yet. You probably looked crazy on the store cameras right now. Just staring confusingly at a shelf of condoms. What has this boy done to you? You don't need them - at least as of right now.
You feel crazy even thinking about it. Just get your groceries and go home and make a sweet dinner for you and your boyfriend and watch a movie - nothing else.
But why was your heart still racing? You groaned frustrated as you put your cart back and making your way onto the bus back home with your bag of groceries.
Home....shower.....start cooking.....
You still had plenty of time once you got yourself all ready and began prepping your meal, it was still only 5:30.
You decided on a cute medium length, dark slate floral dress, with a light gray knitted sweater placed comfortably on top, along with your slippers. Were you dressed too much? It was only a comfy movie night. It was just casual but you wanted to look cute at least and not your normal lazy sweats. This was a date after all.
Everything was almost perfect. You quickly grabbed your throw blanket for a more comfortable setting as well as some lit candles on your coffee table.
Before you know it, 6 was here and Yeonjun was right on time, knocking on your door. You took a deep breath before opening the door and seeing the handsome man taking your breath away once again. You couldn't help but feel nervous all over again the first time seeing him - like every date still being your first.
"I bought chocolates." He held up the bag of goodies before leaning in - placing a sweet kiss upon your cheek. "Chocolate with popcorn is the best."
"You've done this before?" You teased letting him enter your home, placing the chocolate on your coffee table next to your burning candle.
"Nothing special, just with myself." He smiled sweetly. "I guess this movie is more romantic than I thought." He smirked looking at your candle.
You shrugged nervously. "I just like candles."
"My mom just texted me that her and my dad are just gonna stay at the local hotel because the party will be running late - so I guess I don't have to kick you out as quickly as I wanted to."
"So we can watch two movies?" He smirked.
"Sure." You giggled.
"Oh shoot, I need to check on dinner." You continued making a speedy bee line towards the kitchen. Luckily nothing was burnt from your slight distraction and you turned the burners off and continued prepping your meal together as Yeonjun watched comfortably.
"You're so cute." He smiled softly.
You glared teasingly. "Why must you insist on saying that for every little thing I do?"
"Well, stop being cute at everything you do." He arched his eyebrows playfully.
"I'm just being normal."
"Well, I guess your normal is cute."
"Yeonjun....I still have time to toss out your ass." You said playfully and he came up behind you in a warm back hug as you continued to finish spicing up the meal.
Back hugs was number one on your list for your dream boyfriend - and you couldn't believe you were here experiencing it yourself. It felt surreal.
"Bulgogi? Hmm....looks good." He leaned his chin on your shoulder. "I didn't know you could cook. You really are perfect."
"Far from.....I only know this because of my mom."
"But you still cooked it." He cuddled more into your neck. "Our next date, I'll cook for you."
"When will that be?" You relaxed as you felt him gently pepper his lips over your soft skin.
"Soon." Was all he said as the lust was slowly taking over. You couldn't help but close your eyes, taking in his gentle touch.
"Dinner is ready." You said in a hushed whisper, not breaking out of your trance. If you knew any better, you were completely under his spell. You never been touched in such a way - it felt.....amazing.
You practically begged him for more the moment you leaned your head slightly to the left, giving him full access. After every kiss, came a soft suck, up and down the crevice of your neck.
You never wanted him to let go but you needed to learn self control.
"We should eat before the food gets cold." You said again finally breaking free from your compulsion.
"You're right." He gave you one last peck before pulling away and helping you bring the plates out to the living room.
The atmosphere felt intense as you both clearly didn't want to break apart, but your meal was great none the less and you felt impressed with yourself from how well it turned out.
The movie you decided on was a romance - probably some chick flick - to fit the theme of your so called date. Which probably was a bad idea in the long run because after you cleaned up the food. It was just your main focus.
Yeonjun made some popcorn and next thing you know, you both were cuddled underneath your throw blanket, trying to pay attention to this silly romance. It's like you were waiting for something more to happen the moment you felt his fingertips dance on your exposed knee underneath your blanket. It was a cute innocent gesture until it stopped and all you felt was his hand rest there slowly tapping his index finger. A signal maybe?
You turned to question being hit with nothing but his lips on yours. It was fragile at first, like he was asking for permission but the moment you responded your lips with his - it grew intense and more desperate. This kiss wasn't like your other ones, this felt like a burning sensation upon the surface. You couldn't believe a simple kiss could have so many meanings and feelings behind it. Every one had felt different in its own unique way and this one was no exception. This one was the start of something new, something more.....dangerous.
He leaned further in until your back hit the couch cushions underneath as he towered over you. He had you pinned against the couch, forgetting instantly the tv even existed. The hand that was on your knee earlier was now resting on your slightly exposed thigh, rubbing slow circles on your soft skin, leaving goosebumps in its place. Your lips felt swollen by this point, but you didn't care, he made you feel weak.
And just when you felt like things couldn't get more intense, he broke away from the kiss but continued down, kissing your neck once again, but this time he didn't hesitate to nip softly around your soft skin. It felt hypnotizing - like he was a vampire sucking your blood. His hand climbed up your leg as well - playing with the strap of your underwear but he knew better than to take it further than that. He didn't want to make you uncomfortable in anyway. He cares too much for you.
You relaxed leaning your head to the side once again to give him a better access, letting a moan escape in the process. You didn't even know you did it until he stopped and looked at you. His lack of touch causing you to open your eyes, questioning.
"What?" You asked innocently.
"Nothing, you just sound sexy." He said before continuing to nip your neck one last time, marking his territory. You would be lying if you said the butterflies stopped during this whole process but they felt much more intense after the next, you thought you would be used to them by now but they intended to feel different the more moves he tried on you. You never have been touched in such a way before.
He lifted your leg to wrap it more around his waist as he moved his lips back up towards yours, sending tingles closer and closer to your core that you knew you felt a pool forming inside your underwear. He rested comfortably in between your legs, nothing but clothes to block your path to a more sensual desire.
You couldn't help but slowly gyrate your hips upward to get more comfortable that he stopped kissing you and looked at you with a smirk. "Are you trying to get me worked up?"
"Huh? That was an accident." You blushed avoiding his eye contact.
"An accident hmmm? Didn't think you were a tease." He leaned back down kissing you once again. He had one hand on your hip to keep you in place from moving. Did it affect him that bad? You barely moved an inch.
You didn't lie.....it felt good against your core that you secretly wanted more. Were the hormones getting to you?
You moved again, but purposely this time and with more momentum. He groaned against your lips softly pulling away. "(Y/N).” He said weak to your surprise.
"I can't help it." You whispered biting your lip and that was it for him - he wanted you more and more; like a drug he can't wean off of.
You pulled him back, working your lips with his. You jerked your hips again, causing him to hold your hip, helping you move in sync with him. You couldn't even tease him without him being a step ahead of you, you just wanted to be the one in control for once. Someday...
But that was the thing, you were in control without even knowing it. You were his newfound weakness and he didn't know how to handle you. He felt like you won this game and just decided to take one for the team. But he knew the effects and didn't know how to stop.
His lips were back on your neck as you felt the pace pick up. You felt soaked through by this point that normally you would be embarrassed but your hormones were telling you otherwise. Your heart began to race the moment you started feeling his bulge between your legs, was it really getting this far?
Maybe you should have gotten those condoms....
What? No. You're not ready for that. What were you thinking....or more likely....what was he doing to you?
"Yeonjun?" You whined feeling him right up your core. "Maybe we should stop."
He stopped and looked at you sympathetically. "I'm so sorry. You're right."
"I don't want to." You giggled for reassurance as you stopped him from pulling away. "I just.....I don't know how to do all of this." You bit your lip again but this time embarrassed.
You knew he already knows you are a virgin and have no experience whatsoever but you couldn't help but feel like a disappointment and just needed a reason for an excuse. It's not that you didn't want to go further but you felt like you couldn't without humiliating yourself in the process.
You looked down trying to avoid his eye contact. "(Y/N)." You finally looked up seeing him smile at you softly. "It's okay."
"But I don't want you to be bored or I don't want to be bad because I don't know how-"
"Relax." He cut you off. "I'll help you....whenever you're ready."
He was being the perfect gentleman and you couldn't have misjudged him better. This was not the boy you expected him to be.
"Okay." You smiled and he kissed your cheek sweetly. "We can still makeout though."
He chuckled at your nervous statement and smirked before leaning back down just as you heard a knock on the door cutting you both off.
You both grew confused getting up. "Did you forget you ordered pizza?"
"I didn't." You felt a slight chill. Who would be at your door? Mia?
"I'll get it." Yeonjun walked over to the door as you stayed hidden by the corner. It couldn't be Mia, she would have texted you.
"Party!" People yelled as soon as Yeonjun opened the door and immediately were piling inside. "Hey Yeonjun." People greeted the troubled boy.
"What is going on?" You yelled in panic trying to cut through the loud commotion.
"I don't know." Yeonjun was quick to try to find out more information. You kept trying to close the door but more and more people were entering.
"Yuhyun said that this was last minute, so we bought beer and snacks." Some dude greeted as he entered your home uninvited.
Yuhyun, you should have known better. You were quick to look for Yeonjun as your house was already filling up with people and music playing from some unknown source causing you to have a panic attack at any moment.
Yeonjun was in the kitchen as your counters were getting filled with junk. "Yuhyun-"
"I know. What do we do?"
"We can call the police?" He suggested.
"No, they will alert my parents." You took a deep breath. "Why would she do this?"
"Because she is a horrible fucking person." He pulled you into his chest comforting you.
"Hey, Yeonjun's new girlfriend -what's your name again?" You just glared at the random students you probably never even spoken to. "Oh (Y/N) that's right. Nice party! We knew you were quiet but we didn't know how cool you are. Cheers!"
"You know what? I'm not giving in to her anymore. I guess we're having a party - call your friends." Yeonjun gave you a look of uncertainty.
"It's okay. My parents aren't coming home tonight." You reassured. "But if Yuhyun tries to enter this house, stop her."
"(Y/N) I don't know-" You leaned up giving him a passionate kiss causing howls from around you. "Don't worry, she won't pull this again because her plan won't work."
He smiled at you kissing you again before pulling out his phone and calling his friends over as well as you.

High School AU! Terri has been in love with adorable cheerleader Dani for two years now, but she's going steady with John, Terri's best, and much cooler friend, and also Captain of the football team. Dani and John seem happy, but with John graduating and off to join the army, that means Dani's free for the summer, and all alone while he's at boot camp. Terri doesn't want to hurt John, but she's wanted Dani for so long that she's sick of hurting herself...
it's interesting to think of Terri as something other than the cool, mature woman she is. but I suppose if she shared a similar backstory as our Terry in the show, it would make sense that she went through an awkward phase.
maybe it's just after a growth spurt, and she was already tall, but now she's all limbs in what feels like the wrong way. she hasn't yet gotten used to her new frame.
Dani had never wanted to be popular, she ended up on the cheerleading team because she thought it was fun and it kept her busy. and when she moved up into high school she ended up becoming very good at it. she was small and flexible and easy to throw, making her the top of the pyramid.
John got into football as a way to vent his anger, introduced to it by a teacher when he was going through a hard time. he was big and firm and good at it as well. he was a junior when Dani was a freshman. at first he thought maybe he just wanted to watch over her. after all she's so tiny, and too good fr the world. she could be easily taken advantage of. but then he started to notice how cute she could be. he shrugged the attraction off at first since he thought she was a little too young, but by the next year his friends had convinced him to ask her out. after all, he was a football player and Dani was a cheerleader, that was what was supposed to happen.
all this time Terri had been a grade in between them. she entered school not knowing anyone, but well off due to her family's money. she was too smart for the kids around her. too driven. it wasn't becoming of her. she was a drama kid and a mathlete. it's not necessarily that she was unpopular, but she was standoffish, always on her own.
Terri and John met by chance when Dani was still in 8th grade and have been friends ever since, even if they don't belong to the same social circles. at first, when Terri started noticing the girl she repressed it. but when John kept mentioning her in passing, saying how he might actually ask her out she felt curiously jealous. which was strange, she didn't have any romantic feelings towards John.
it's only when Dani agrees to go with John to homecoming, her sophomore and his senior, respectively, that she realizes.
Dani would look far better on her arm. she doesn't like feeling negatively towards Jiohn, he was her only friend. but something dark inside of her was growing teeth.
the thing was that they were good together. John was genuinely kind and protective of the girl. almost smitten. Dani, with her cute, upturned nose and petite athlete's body, wide eyes, and dark hair. she looked good with John. John who had strong features, wide shoulders, and a wholesome smile.
when John tells Terri he's joining the army she calls him a reckless fool. she tells him the country won't give a damn about his service, that he's fighting for nothing.
She hides her anxious, sick fear under anger and indignation, appalled at the thought of losing the only friend she has.
but every bad situation has a silver lining. Dani, loyal, lovely Dani, will now be free to do what she wishes. she'll be lonely and hurting as well, and the only person able to properly commiserate with her would be Terri.
Terri asks the girl what she's planning to do before John leaves. she acts like a cool, older friend, (at this point she has started growing into her shoulders and hands, putting on lean muscle. she's learned how to walk in heels and went up half a cupsize last summer. Dani is in awe of her nd slightly afraid) when she asks if Dani and John have... you know...
Dani blushes at the question, not expecting the older girl to be so brash. she tells Terri that they haven't, that when Dani was sitting on his lap and they were cuddling, occasionally John's hands would wander, and she would let him pet her over her panties before getting shy.
he never pushed for more, always happy just to be with the girl. Terri asks her if she plans to sleep with him before he leaves and Dani admits that she would like to, but she's nervous because she's afraid she won't know how to do it right.
Terri, who is no virgin offers to help her. how? well, she can teach Dani about her body. she would teach her how to please herself and others sexually. she would do it as a favor to the girl, and it wouldn't even have to mean anything.
Dani barely says yes before Terri's hands are holding Dani's knees apart, sliding up her thigh, feeling the other girl's knees clench around her forearm as Terri slips her fingers up under her skirt and into her panties.
she's sure John would understand. maybe even thank her in time. she can't bring herself to feel bad about the fling she takes up with the girl once he leaves. he made his choice.

💖💖💛💛
Feels Like Forever
Short, angsty Eddie x f!reader ficlet :)
Warnings: alcohol, that's it I think. I'm not proofreading except on company time.
"All I known is that it feels like forever, but no one ever tells you that forever feels home, sitting all alone inside your head."
"It's been way too long, Y/n," your friend Samantha said, the two of you sitting in lawn chairs in her backyard, along with a few other people you recognized and some you didn't. She had called you up a few weeks ago to let you know that some of the old highschool buddies were planning on getting together, as a sort of early reunion. She guilt tripped the hell out of you to convince you to make the drive from Bloomington all the way back to Hawkins, a place you hadn't stepped foot in since you left for college six years ago, way too eager to get outta dodge. Admittedly it was nice seeing old faces and finding out what everyone had been up to, but it was eerie as well, noticing the stark differences between the people who wanted to leave and those that wanted to stay, resigned contentment vs happiness. "I know," you reply, nursing the same beer you had been for an hour now, "but you know how work is, I barely get any time off."
"Tell me about it, pal." Hands land on your shoulders and a face leans over your head, peering down at you with a wide smile. "How you been, Y/n?" Steve beams as you chuckle, coming to stand beside you, hands on his hips as his eyes scan the crowded backyard. "I'm good, it's good to see you." You and he had been close back in school, you were the same age but he had always felt like the big brother you never had. "You guys finally get a babysitter?" Samantha asks, chuckling as Steve's head whips around in search of something. "Yeah," he answers, "the wife's around here somewhere. Oop, I think I see her, I'll talk to you guys later." He walks off, quickly tousling your hair before you have the chance to stop him. "Asshole," you mumble with a laugh, fixing your hair.
"Who, me?" It feels like everything stops when you recognize that voice, time frozen still as its owner comes into view beside you, shit-eating grin plastered across his face. "Eddie, shit how are you?" You stand up and pull him into a hug, his leather jacket cool under your fingertips from the night air. "I'm good, Y/n," he replies, hugging you right back. You both stand there for a moment longer before he pulls back to look at you with a wide, toothy smile, "It's really fucking good to see you, Y/n. I've missed you." His sweet words should have warmed your heart, but instead they stabbed at it.
You had met Eddie back as a freshman, during a free period. You'd been on your way to the room where Drama Club met to work on your D&D campaign, knowing it'd be empty this time of day. You were surprised to see that it wasn't, walking in to find that someone else had had the same idea as you. You'd shared the details of your campaigns and that was that, you were fast friends. And soon, your friendship turned into something more. Hours holed up in each other's rooms going over campaigns or listening to the new Metallica album quickly led to shy glances and chaste kisses, followed closely by puppy love and hasty promises. Eddie was your first love and you were his, high school sweethearts vowing to spend every second of every day together for the rest of time. That is, until you were accepted at Indiana University and Eddie got news that he had to repeat 12th grade. You'd offered to wait until he graduated and just reapply next year, but he wouldn't hear of it. "You're not gonna put your life on hold for me." You didn't want to admit it, but you were hoping he wouldn't let you. The thought of even one more year in Hawkins was unbearable. So you made a promise, that in a year he'd head out to Bloomington to move in with you, find a job and everything would go as planned, just slightly delayed. And until then you'd call every chance you got, long distance relationships were always tough but yours wouldn't be, you cared about each other too much.
But that's the thing about promises, sometimes they're impossible to keep. You couldn't call a few times a day because when Eddie was free, you weren't. So you'd call once a day, before bed. You'd tell him about your classes and he'd tell you about his campaigns. College was so much busier than high school, and every day turned into every other day, which turned into once a week, and once every other week. There came a point when you hadn't talked in a month and a half. That next phone call was quiet, tears held back on both ends as you agreed that yeah, maybe we should take a break. Yeah, just until I graduate. This is too much on your plate. This is harder than we thought it'd be. Then the time came for him to graduate, and he didn't. Held back, again. There weren't any phone calls, no vows for next year, no it's just gonna take a bit longer than we thought. You didn't hear from him and he didn't hear from you. Soon you'd pushed all of it from your mind, pouring over your studies and hard won internship, and once you graduated you were too busy with work to wonder if he had finally done it, to wonder if you would open your door and find him standing there, a bandana tied over his wild hair, holding a suitcase in one hand and a diploma in the other. You were too busy with your new life to realize that he didn't even know where you lived now, having moved apartments a year into college. But it wouldn't have mattered anyway. One year turned to two, three and then four. Neither of you had broken the promises you'd made all those years ago, staring into each other's eyes with what you thought was a love to last the ages, you hadn't broken them, life had.
So when Eddie said those words, you knew it meant more than if anyone else had said them. He missed you, yes, but more so he missed the you that hadn't yet left Hawkins. The girl that spent her weekends listening to him practice guitar and giving him a peck on the cheek when he forgot the next chord. The girl trying to get a laugh out of him by making faces when the teacher turned his back. That's who he missed, but that wasn't you anymore, and he wasn't the same guy you missed. You'd grown up, and worse than that, you'd grown up apart. You both knew this.
¤
An hour has passed, or maybe it's been two, you aren't sure. Most people have come and gone, hugs and "see you soon"s exchanged before the crowd started to dwindle, Samantha heading inside to talk to some people before they left, leaving just you and Eddie out back. The two of you had quickly fallen into comfortable chatter, him telling you about his job at the garage and how Wayne had a new "lady friend" as Eddie so suggestively called her, telling you an embarrassing story about walking in on them kissing in the kitchen. "I'm telling you, Y/n, I'm getting outta there as soon as a trailer opens up." You laugh at his disgusted expression and regale him with your woes, how the landlord was an ass who refused to fix anything without hassling him for a good few months, about how your boss always had you double check your work knowing damn well you were right the first time. As completely different as your problems were, he still laughed and shook his head as you told him about your life in Bloomington.
"You know," you say, watching as he absentmindedly turns a ring on his finger, "if you're ever up there, feel free to drop by. The couch is a pullout." He smiles before letting out a small huff of laughter, "What would I be doing up in Bloomington?" He had a point, as far as you were aware he hadn't ever stepped foot outside Hawkins, let alone way up state. "We should talk though, you know?" He says after a minute, "Keep in touch." You nod your head, "Yeah, we should. We will." Sitting there, you look at each other. His eyes are soft as they stare into yours, something sad swimming in the dark brown of them. In these few seconds you both feel it, the flood of memories and nostalgia for what you had, for what you wanted and what you'll never get. If only he had come with you. If only you had stayed. There were too many "if onlys" for anything else to last. You share a bittersweet smile before looking away to gaze up at the stars, Vega and Altair stunningly visible tonight. You should keep in touch, but you won't. You both know this.

steddie tbhk au. kinda.
part 1 ; part 2
Steve does not regret his "fall of the mighty" or whatever dramatic shit Eddie calls his truly spectacular fall in the social ladder.
He isn't sure why he'd been so scared of exactly that in the first place. He does not have to laugh at cruel "jokes" and feel like the biggest asshole in the world anymore. He doesn't need to keep up with the ridiculously complicated drama of who is with who or cheated on whom and whatever else bored teenagers do in the middle of nowhere. He'd never realized how exhausting it had been to wear this mask until he didn't have to anymore.
But there is one big thing that he does miss: the easy access to rumours. To be more specific: supernatural rumours.
Steve is truly glad that he has met Eddie. Not because he is actually pretty funny and a very engaging storyteller and surprisingly gentle despite his wild energy. Or whatever. Like, only a little bit because of those things. No, what makes Eddie truly irreplaceable is that he also is a seemingly bottomless well of information.
For example, Steve had never really thought about why the supernatural acted how it did. To be fair most of the time he'd been a bit too busy running for his life. He'd just assumed that they were bitter about being dead or something and found it funny to terrorize the living. Of course people would start whispering about it when doors started disappearing or students started aging decades in a matter of seconds. It is in the human nature to try to understand the unexplainable, after all. But as it turns out, it is the other way around.
"Do you think I want to keep hanging out in the girls' bathroom?! Don't answer that. It is literally moldy in here. The rumour says that if you want to summon Hanako you need to go to the last stall in the OMG bathroom, and so that is the only way I can be summoned. The dead is dependent on the imagination of the living."
That had been a harsh pill to swallow. He remembers having started more than one creepy story to scare his "friends" late at night. Eddie sees the way his face falls and sings a mashup of Steve's favorite songs for the rest of the day. He has a nice voice.
Now, Steve had had a fall from grace from truly epic proportions and could more often than not be seen talking to air. However, that doesn't change the fact that he is pretty and charming and has awesome hair. Occasionally someone who remembers his old days or simply doesn't care will come to him and ask him out. Kind of like the good old days. Except better, because now the entire school isn't holding its breath for the time it takes him to answer and he can say 'no' without it becoming the hottest (and often only notable) news of the week.
Normally, he abuses this new privilege of his. To be honest, he had thought that crushes were something other people had....invented. Sure, he would be happy if someone asked him out, but it had more to do with flattery than the person per se. He'd thought that "getting together" had nothing to do with any feelings, but only status. Like, this cheerleader can rise a bit in the ranks if she dates the swim captain. He'd thought that the "euphoria" and the "racing heart" or whatever the hell all the love songs described were nothing more than exaggerations for artistic purposes.
And then he'd fallen for Nancy. And like a fall it did feel indeed.
When another older girl came to him in his freshman year, he could always feel hundreds of eyes burning in his back, compelling him to say yes. He'd lose some money (or, well, his parents money so it was fine), have an okay to good time (it was particularly annoying when they were too nervous to do proper smalltalk) and give them a short peck goodbye. Some would maybe want to go on a second or even a third, but most broke it up after that because "they just didn't feel the spark". All Steve would feel was mild curiosity now that he was free again, and his image as "playboy" stayed intact.
(And then Nancy ruined everything. Fuck. He hadn't said yes to anyone ever since that damned party)
He doesn't know why he felt compelled to break his streak. Maybe it was because she dared to go over to the losers table at lunch. Maybe it was because Nancy was looking at him with such hope and relief. Maybe it was because Eddie looked very miffed for some reason and Steve can never pass up a chance to mess with him. Friendship or something. Or maybe he just needed a fucking distraction because it felt oddly personal to watch Billy run the basketball team to the ground.
Either way he agrees to go watch the new Indiana Jones movie with her (worst comes to worst Harrison Ford will be distracting enough), Nancy looks proud of him for "finally moving on" (if only she knew), Jonathan seems to not care either way (good on him to be honest), and Eddie disappears to do his ghostly things or whatever. He's got a test next period so it's better if he isn't there to distract him anyway.
The date is...fine.
It is his first one since Nancy and feels pretty lackluster in comparison. But it's okay. He is moving on or whatever.
They leave the movie theater. The movie was...fine. Harrison Ford was definitely fine. (Now that he thinks about it, it has been some time since he has felt something much stronger than "fine". Or "pleasant". Maybe he should be concerned about that. It's easier not to think about it, though. It's - you guessed it - fine.)
She asks him to take a walk with her in the woods. Sure, he says. It's a funny thing. He knows she has been in most of his classes since freshman year - or at least he is pretty sure he remembers her - but for the life of him he can not think of her name. One time she took his hand during the movie and when he looked over he saw her brushing her black hair from her face even though he could swear it had been red before. Insomnia truly is doing a number on him.
They are walking on the edge of the forest, hand in hand. Her eyes change color under the moonlight: brown and blue and yellow and purple and red. It's pretty.
She starts humming. It takes him a bit of time before he recognizes the song but he has to smile when he does. Wake Me Up Before You Go Go by Wham! It is his revenge song for Eddie's "Master of Puppets" - phase. The spirit hated how "preppy" the song is and Steve had been absolutely obsessed with it for a while.
They duet, dancing a bit to the beat of the song. Her hand is warm in his. The forest looks endless and inviting. It is...nice. Maybe even more than that.
After they finished the song for a second time she stops him. They just stare at each other for a moment. Her eyes are an impossible color. She smells like the forest. Like, exactly like the forest, as if she were a part of it. And then she slowly starts leaning forwards. Steve brushes some of her blonde hair behind her ear. It looks almost white. He prepares himself for a kiss (is a bit excited for it, to his own surprise), but instead of his mouth she zeroes on his ear.
"Have you been true?", she whispers.
She starts humming Wake Me Up Before You Go Go again. She is still humming as his first bones start breaking. She is still humming as his clothes become too big for him and fall to the floor. She is still humming when grey hairs start growing out of his burning skin. And then she laughs. She laughs and laughs and laughs and he knows he has made a terrible mistake.
"Has no one ever told you that it is bad to make a name for yourself in our world, Steve Harrington?" And then she disappears, returns to the forest she is a part of.
Steve squeaks.
Yes, squeaks. Because apparently, mouse anatomy was not made to produce human-sounding words.
Fuck.
--
When Steve was small, he sometimes wished he could be a pet. Maybe a cute pup. Or an elegant cat. Or even a lazy turtle. For his tiny brain, this seemed like the ideal life, and he can still see some of the appeal to be honest. You don't have to earn affection - you just get it freely, sometimes even if you did something you shouldn't. You don't have to know any stupid subjects that refuse to enter your brain or worry about dumb stressful things like grades or politeness. You can't take care of yourself, which means you will always come face to face with another person at least twice a day. You don't need to feel bad when you waste your parents' hard earned money on alcohol or food even though you barely contribute to the family. Yeah, sounds like a dream.
His actual experience as a mouse so far has been. Uhm. Not ideal? An unexpected surprise? So far he doesn't really have any strong emotions either way. Maybe he is in shock, or maybe his now miniscule rat brain is not able to comprehend what just happened.
It's interesting to see everything from a new angle, he supposes. The forest has always felt somewhat threatening - dark and endless and right outside of his house where trees created scary shadows inside his room. Funnily enough, it is less so now. There are so many different new textures and smells he does not have the brain capacity to feel scared.
But he doesn't have time to dwell on that right now. Or well, technically he does, since he can hardly go to school like this. Unless his lifespan shortened along with the transformation? He is pretty sure rats have a way shorter life expectancy than humans. It's probably better not to think too hard about that one. Compartmentalization is one of the few things he is naturally good at.
Okay, so it doesn't really make sense to sit in classes if he doesn't have to, but what is he supposed to do instead? It's not like he can open his very human-sized front door when he is like this.
But... Hanako is still in the school premises - naturally, since he can't exactly leave. And Steve still hasn't made his wish. He just needs to find the school (he has lived here his whole life surely he can manage that), make Eddie understand that the rat following him around is actually Steve (....somehow) and then communicate without being able to speak or sign or write that he wishes to be turned back into his human form (he'll figure that part out if he miraculously even makes it this far). So yeah. Solid plan. Whatever, he's always been more of a go with the flow guy anyway.
Okay, so he and his...date(?) came from the direction of the cinema. The cinema is deeper into town, where the school also is. So he just has to figure out which way they came from, and once he manages to get into the town centre he is sure he will figure it out, even under these extenuating circumstances.
Steve may not be very book smart, or just like smart in general, but if there is one thing he knows about himself is that he has great instincts. His gut tell him to go left, so he does. Either he will arrive at the school - which is the goal - or his house - which wouldn't be the end of the world. (Or maybe somewhere completely different but it's better not to think about that possibility). As long as it doesn't take longer than the average rat can survive, the worst that can happen is a delay. Which wouldn't even be that bad, since at least Eddie would realize that something was wrong.
Ever since the day the spirit almost had a second early death because he skipped class, Steve always makes sure to let him know if he can't make it for some reason. Mostly that means using the walkies-talkies they started carrying around to ask Nancy to relay the information to Hanako, which in turn almost always gives her a heart attack. ("Steve! How many times do I have to tell you that these are for emergencies only?!" "It is an emergency if he refuses to stop singing Metallica during my biology test tomorrow")
So he starts walking. And walks. And walks. And walks. He thinks the worst part of being turned into a rat is how he completely loses his sense of time. He has lived in this town his whole life, meaning he knows how long it takes to get pretty much anywhere on foot. There isn't a whole lot to do in Hawkins (what a surprise) so he used to go exploring a lot. If he was still a human and thus possessed these wondrous limbs commonly known as legs, it would take about half an hour to get to the school. As things are, he does not have a watch and he does not know how much slower he is walking. The sky continues to darken and for all he knows he could be walking for hours. Or the completely wrong direction. The thought feels a bit more daunting now that his clothes are out of sight and he isn't sure he will ever find them again. A pity, he even wore one of his favorite shirts - just tight enough to show everything he has to offer, but still elegant. Simple but classy. And now covered in dirt.
It feels like an eternity when he finally starts recognizing his surroundings. It takes another one for him to finally see the school parking lot, and yet another to actually cross it until he finally arrives at the right building. It seems more and more likely that the stupid being who deceived him into a date somehow cursed his sense of time as well. Or maybe a rat's perception of time is different from a human's, shorter lives and all that.
Here is one little detail he forgot to account for in his genius plan: the school also has a human-sized door. Not only that, it has a human-sized door he wouldn't be able to open even if he still resided in his original body, since it is locked and they don't give away the keys to random students.
Maybe he can like. Scream really loudly. And hope that Eddie will hear him. And somehow recognize his true form with a mere glance. Or, well, if he's being honest with himself, he wouldn't be surprised if Eddie let a random rat in just for shits and giggles.
The sound that comes out of his tiny snout is truly embarrassing. He is almost relieved that it is too quiet for anyone to have heard it.
So.... Well. What now? Should he search for another entrance? Surely there is a hole somewhere in the outer walls, everyone knows schools don't have enough funding. But then, he just had to do a really long and tiresome hike. And it is already late in the night. And he'd already wasted some of his energy before this whole mess even started being anxious for his first date in forever...
He isn't sure when he falls asleep. All he knows is that one second he is looking up to the stars and thinking about life, and the next he is being woken up by multiple teens screeching and stomping around. Are his ears more sensitive like this or is it the mere displeasure of having this be the first thing he wakes up to that makes their voices so unbearably shrill? We may never find out.
The important part is that it is morning. Which means he can simply walk through the already open doors and run to the OMG-bathroom (he is already dreading the smell). And when he gets there and finally gets to Eddie, all he has to do is-. Well. One thing at a time.
For once it doesn't take an eternity to arrive at his destination. It would be more of a relief if he had been able to come up with a plan on his way there, but here they are. Winging it it is.
Thankfully the Old Moldy Girls Bathroom Everybody Avoids's door doesn't close all the way. He squeezes himself inside and there - as expected - is Eddie Munson. It has become part of their routine to meet up at the bathroom in the morning (even though Eddie knows his timetable by heart and neither of them are girls. Maybe they should talk that one over once he is human again).
Eddie plays a bit with him while he waits for a currently indisposed human Steve to arrive. Rat Steve refuses to admit how good it feels to get cuddles on his little forehead. Doesn't stop him from asking for more.
Eddie laughs at his antics, but his smile dims with every second that passes. By the time the first lesson begins he is frowning. Steve can hear as he mutters to himself: how reassurances turn into worry and a brief sadness that absolutely breaks his heart followed by...anger? Steve isn't sure how they got to that last part, but suddenly they are cursing Steve and his entire family line and the girl(?) that took him out for some reason. He can wholeheartedly agree with the last two, and tries not to take the first one too personally.
Steve isn't sure how much time passes before Eddie has had enough and decides to look for him in class. It goes like this: he sees Eddie approaching the door. He panics. He is body slamming into the wall. Turns out it is not a good idea to launch yourself at other people when said other people are a ghost.
Eddie looks just as shocked as Steve himself. "WHAT THE FUCK?!" "DON'T LEAVE ME ALONE JACKASS JESUS H. CHRIST" is what Steve would've liked to scream in return. Except he couldn't, because he was still a rat.
"WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU DO THAT?! ARE YOU STUPID? ARE YOU SUICIDAL? CAN RATS EVEN BE SUICIDAL?!?!" Steve answers the best way he can given the current circumstances: he huffs and shows Eddie his ass. Eddie pauses. For a moment hope blooms in Steve's heart.
"This may sound insane. But...can you....understand me?" Steve turns around so fast he gives himself whiplash. It doesn't help when he starts nodding enthusiastically and slams his head into the floor.
"Are you. No way. ... Stevie?"
Steve is so excited he starts jumping up and down.
"Aww, is tiny little Stevie in a bit of a pickle?"
Steve really wishes mice had middle fingers.
"I am assuming you are here to cash in that wish I still owe you. Aren't you lucky that I am so benevolent as to have stopped you from throwing away your wish for some girl? Aren't you regretting not having listened to me when I said that you shouldn't go on this date? Huh?"
Steve turns around, ready to live out the rest of his days as a rodent because his salvation is being a little shit.
He can barely walk a step before something warm envelops him. A moment he is on all fours, and the next he is still on all fours, except that the inconveniently low doorknob is now in his field of vision.
"Kinky." Steve doesn't need to turn around to see the shit-eating grin on Eddie's face.
He is human. It takes him another moment to really internalize it. He looks down, and he now has two perfectly usable middle fingers. And arms, god how he had missed fucking arms.
The hug he gives Hanako is tight enough that it probably would've squished him to death if he wasn't, well, already dead. (He kind of wants to punch him in the face, too, but this is the next best thing)

🍰 to bake my muse’s favorite treat for them (Cassia bringing over baked goods for Jayn or for her to bake them something while they're hanging out together~)
They figured it was time for another girls' day since their shopping trip had been pretty fun. The only problem was, the weather had been crappy for the last week or two, and the forecast wasn't showing anything but rain for the foreseeable future. That meant no trips to the city, because the street would be gross the whole day. So the girls settled on a lazy day inside. They could listen to the music they both liked, rant about Dracula (the current focus of their book club), and...
[Cassia]: Want me to bring lunch?
[Jayn}: Nooo! You don't have to...
[Jayn]: We can make toasted sandwiches! Is that OK?
[Cassia]: 😲😍🥪
[Jayn]: Haha OK 😁
[Cassia]: What about COOKIES?
[Jayn]: *screams* ♥♥♥ shh don't tell the 🥪
So they were going to bake cookies, talk, and then nom their lovely treats. The sandwiches would get made whenever the girls actually got hungry. Jayn politely asked Evelyn to add chocolate chips, oats, and the usual baking ingredients to the grocery list. Mrs. Danvers agreed, on the condition that she get at least two cookies once they're baked. That meant the girls were making twenty cookies.
"Hey!" Jayn cried, ushering Cassia in so she could get out of the cold and the rain. "I hope Ty and Aaron weren't too gross," she said teasingly. The couple had dropped Cass off, since their D&D group had had a short session scheduled that afternoon anyway.
"Nah, they're always cute." The (slightly) shorter of the two shrugged off her wet raincoat, which Jayn took and put in the closet the Danvers had just for...well, guests' coats. That way it had a chance to dry without dripping on anything. "Hey," Cass echoed with a grin, hugging Jayn. It seemed silly to ask how she'd been, since they texted every day they didn't see each other.
"OK, so fill me in!" They both plopped down on a couch so Cassia could tell Jayn the story of the most recent D&D campaign drama. Cass was an excellent storyteller, and Jayn was a great listener, asking questions about the character development and the plot (Jayn didn't need any lore explanation because she'd binged most of the Forgotten Realms wikia). The whole conversation always ended in lots of giggling, especially when the girls started coming up with ridiculous ways the campaign might end. Then, the subject turned to Dracula, which their book club was reading, and to school after that.
"He's just so monotone," Jayn huffed, talking about her boring Freshman Seminar professor, "I have to take notes, and text you guys, and sit on a textbook just to stay awake...ugh. I feel like I'm boring you talking about him. Sorry--"
"Hey, it's OK! Ranting is what best friends are for," Cass assured her. "So: what makes this recipe you found 'The Best Cookie Recipe Ever'?" She wasn't big on sweets herself, but she was happy to bake with Jayn, and excited to see what Evelyn, her dad, and their friends would think of the cookies.
"Alright! Well, the website said they're the best cookies, but I think they are--or, they will be. They have oats in them. And Evelyn got the rich people-kind of stuff, so they're gonna be five-star." With that, the girls jumped up and hurried to the kitchen. Jayn got all the dry ingredients out, since she knew where everything was kept, and Cass got the milk, butter, and baking tools. It wasn't long before there were globs of sugary dough placed on cookie sheets and slid into the waiting oven. "The best part..." Jayn grinned mischievously, holding up the bowl with cookie batter remnants up to the heavens. Cass just snickered at her friend's weirdness. They talked about the movies that were set to come out in a few months while Jayn ate batter off of the wooden spoon they'd used to mix everything.
"I think it's cute. And it's definitely original," Cassia said about The Proposal, "Do you think we can get Pogue and Caleb to see it?"
"Yeah! I mean, Pogue might complain on the way there, but he'll still go, and he probably thinks Sandra Bullock is pretty anyway. Caleb'll say yes because it's a fun thing for the four of us to--ugh." While shoving the spoon in her mouth, a bit of batter had gotten stuck on the corner of Jayn's lips. She set the bowl down and moved towards Cassia, meaning to get to the napkins in the pantry, but her friend stood in her way.
"C'mere..." Cass took half a step forward and carefully wiped off the stray sugar with her thumb. Without thinking, she sucked her thumb clean and hummed at the taste cutely, completely oblivious to how Jayn's eyes were glued on her.
"Cassie." It was barely a whisper, more like a sigh, really, but it was enough. Surprised by the nickname, she looked up in time to see the look on Jayn's face. They went in for a kiss at the same time, both unsure. And then they quickly pulled back. "I'm sorry. I-I shouldn'tve thought you wanted...I'm sorry," Jayn mumbled, on the verge of tears.
Cass was thrown back to when her friend, her ex-girlfriend, had made her look like a perv when they were caught kissing. She touched Jayn's cheek, which made her freeze, and then leaned in for a slower, warmer kiss, before she tried to step back.
"Cassie," Jayn repeated, desperate this time. She gently put her hands on the other girl's waist, only holding her tightly once they kissed again. It was like a practiced dance, how they moved with each other. Well, at first. They parted when they needed to breathe, and then they collided with each other again, Cassia pushing Jayn so her back was against the counter. She bravely nibbled on Jayn's lower lip, which earned her a gasp, and then her hands moved up to feel her friend's breasts.
"Why'd you wear a bra?" she huffed, and they both laughed breathlessly.
"My ass isn't wearing a bra," Jayn retorted, and before Cass could figure out what she meant, she herself was groaning, closing her eyes while kisses were painted down her jaw, down to her collarbone. Proud of her efforts, Jayn paused to nuzzle at a spot there, mumbling something about pretty girls and little freckles. Cassia managed to calm herself enough to take the hint from earlier and squeeze Jayn's ass, which made Jayn whimper and press herself into the other girl. They both laughed gently, exchanging a few lazy kisses before they decided to just stand there, holding each other.
They would've been the best cookies ever even if they were burnt.
@in--somnium
#jkw: thread#in--somnium#thanks for the ask!#I was gonna have them make Pogue's bday cake but I didn't want it to be “forced” into our canon#+ figured Jayn & Cass probably don't realize they're super attracted to each other or at least act on it til at least after the double date#anyway have some rare wholesome Cass x Jayn lol#I have no idea how Cass gets to the Danvers' w/o teleporting or driving but oh well-#gods now I want some scene w/mischievous domme!Cass who teases Jayn & sneaks a hand into her pants--#also yay cookies#just tagging you bc I wrote this late

bboom bboom bboom (aaron x reader)
summary: there’s a talent show being held to raise money for the band! what are aaron and the drumline doing? DANCING! TO BBOOMBBOOM BY MOMOLAND! But they only have 8 people… so they recruit you! (drama comes after.)
before you read: not proofread, interpret reader and aaron’s relationship how you want to because it’s never explicitly said what they are , this fic can take place in the same universe as the others or not (specifically because reader is a member of colorguard and said to be a former member of the dance team). also drum and drummer are like mostly Silent during this fic. i feel like aaron is lowkey/highkey ooc in this. but i love him anyways.
wc: 3k. (3029 to be exact).
—
When Garth said that fundraising ideas were needed, some freshman came up with the brilliant idea of a talent show. However, there was one big problem. pretty much everyone in the band had a talent they were thinking of - playing their instrument. While that would work, it would be extremely boring to sit through basically what would be a paid band concert and no one would be willing to go. However, you came up with the perfect idea - banning instruments from the talent show! You approached Garth after the meeting with it. He immediately approved! But not everyone was too happy about it. But it was already approved so that sucks for them! Though, some other dilemmas were brought to attention.
—
A few days after the announcement was made, you were chased down by a certain bass drum player. He came to you with an upset expression on his face. “Doug?? What’s wrong?” you asked, as he took a few deep breaths.
“The drumline wants to do something for the talent show together but we don’t know what to do! So Aaron told me to go find you and get you to help us!” he said, clearly concerned. You nod.
“So where’s the rest of the drumline?” You ask as you follow Doug out of the music hall and into the long and winding gym hall.
“In the dance room!” You make a face that you hope he didn’t catch.
“Why? Are you guys dancing or something?”
“I’m not sure!” You let out a tiny sigh as the two of you finally make it up to the dance room. You open the door and are faced by the drumline sitting in a circle in deep conversation. A certain boy’s eyes meet yours. “I brought her!” Doug says triumphantly, pumping his fist.
Aaron nods, clearly pleased. “Good job Doug!” He gestures for you to sit next to him in the circle.
“So what’d you need me for? Doug said you guys needed help coming up with something for the talent show?” You ask, looking around the circle. All the other members looked confused.
“I thought we already came up with something,” Tanner says, looking around to make sure he was right. Everyone else agrees in some way or another.
“Yeah I thought we were going with my idea and I thought that was why we needed y/n in the first place,” Sophie says, gesturing towards you.
“What’d you need me for?” You ask, now confused as everyone looked at you expectantly.
“We’ve decided that for the talent show we want to do a dance number. Sophie decided on this 9 people dance to a song called “Bboom Bboom” by a group called Momoland because apparently there aren’t a lot of easy 8 people dances out there,” Aaron says, watching your expression. “We thought you’d be able to help because you’re on guard so then you’d be good at dancing.”
“Also because you used to be on the dance team,” Sophie mutters out, which was only heard by you and Doug somehow. You wondered how she knew that because it wasn’t something that many people in the band knew about you.
“YOU USED TO BE ON THE DANCE TEAM?” Doug asks, clearly shocked. You nod at his comment.
“I was on it for around 2 years and then I quit. It just wasn’t my thing anymore, but either way I’m not sure if you’d want my help in the first place-”
“We want all the help we can get! Right?” Aaron says, looking around and giving everyone a scary look. Everyone else nods and agrees.
“Fine then, but don’t get mad at me for how I help you guys,” you say, shrugging.
“You heard them. I’m giving full reign to y/n during this,” Aaron says as you get up from the seated position on the floor. You nod and form a bright smile on your face.
“Luckily for you guys, I know pretty much all of Bboom Bboom and I’m gonna assume Sophie does as well?” You ask, surveying the room. Sophie nods enthusiastically. “You’ll be helping me teach it!” A dark look flashes across her face, but you choose to ignore it in favor of starting a quick warm up. You connect your phone to the speakers in the dance room and start playing something upbeat. “We’ll be warming up now! So get up and spread out!” You call out, waiting for them to follow your instructions. Surprisingly, they all do and you start warm ups. Soon after, you hear drum? drummer? begin to complain about having to stretch. You turn around to face them and see them struggling with a good old lunge.
“Do we have to?” One of them whines. Sometimes you wondered how Aaron dealt with them.
“It feels weird!” The other complains. You sigh, and think of a way to reprimand them, but then you have a great idea. You’re going to take a page out of Aaron’s book for this one.
“You guys can sit out stretches if you want. In fact, any of you can if you really want to. But if you pull, tear or hurt something, that’s your problem, not mine. So choose wisely between feeling a little uncomfortable and having a torn muscle,” you say, giving both of them a dirty look. They both gulp and get the message.
Once you finished up warm ups, you began to get started with teaching them the choreography. You weren’t expecting perfection at all, mainly because this just wasn’t their thing. Clearly none of them had ever stepped in a dance studio, except for probably Sophie. You still wanted to know about how she knew about your history on the dance team. After a mostly-productive practice, you call it a day and end it. You tell them when you would meet to practice for the talent show. After all, no one wants to make a fool of themself in front of their peers. However, while everyone was leaving, you asked Sophie to stay behind. She looked like a deer in headlights.
“Did I do something wrong?” She asks, clearly nervous.
“No! Not at all. I was just curious about something. You said that you knew that I was on the dance team and that I quit. I was just wondering how you knew since I don’t really talk about it and I don’t remember you being on the dance team either,” you explain. She nods.
“I tried out last year because my sister’s on the team and we’ve always danced together, but after I heard about some horror stories from the girls there, I tried my best to mess up my audition and just do marching band instead. I always did like band better than dance if I’m being honest,” she says. “Can I go now, or?” You nod, and she quickly exits. Were you that intimidating? Probably not considering that she’s been on the receiving end of Aaron’s pranks. You’ve always found it odd how he never did prank you, but then again he didn’t really prank anyone outside of drumline.
A voice calls you out of your deep thought. Speak of the devil. “What’s taking you so long? I’ve been waiting here for 5 minutes already!” He says. You could almost imagine him rolling his eyes and his expression immediately darkening.
“I’m just grabbing my stuff!” You say, rushing out now. You meet Aaron by the door of the dance room and see him scrolling through his phone.
“You ready?” He asks, pocketing his phone and grabbing his car keys.
“Mhm! I just had to get my stuff and ask Sophie something!” You say enthusiastically as you follow him into the parking lot. He raises his eyebrows and makes a face.
“Oh? What’d you have to ask her? Was she causing trouble? I could prank her for you-”
“It’s nothing! I was just curious about how she knew about my whole dance team thing. I think like 3 people in the band know. Well obviously more now, but you know?” You say. Aaron nods as you continue rambling. He knew the story and he was there for most of it when it happened. The two of you reach his car and you get it in on the passenger side. He always kept his car tidy which was to be expected, but was still nice. “How’d I do?” You ask as he pulls out of his parking spot. Since it was after dismissal time, the parking lot was basically empty except for the people staying for extracurriculars.
“Hm?” He asks, keeping his eyes on the road.
“I mean like, how’d I do with the whole dance thing today?”
“You were fine. I expected you to be a lot worse,” he says with his classic deadpan expression. You sigh. Were you really that out of practice? He notices your sigh and he laughs. “I’m just messing with you! You did great.”
“Are you sure? I feel like I was too mean,” you say, fidgeting with your hands and looking out the window.
“Nah. You could’ve been worse. I thought you were the right amount of strict,” he says, finally giving you a look. It was a genuine one this time.
“Was the dance too hard? It’s pretty easy, but we could always make it easier since some of you guys were struggling a little bit or Sophie and I could teach it slower since I know we both went pretty fast since we both already knew it-”
“It was fine, all it needs is some practice. Plus a little mess up or two isn’t the end of the world. It’ll be funny since the talent show isn’t too serious. I just think you need to relax a little bit,” he says, taking a hand off the wheel and placing it on top of yours. “Don’t stress yourself out about things you can’t control.” You nod at his words. The rest of the drive consisted of silence and Aaron’s playlist.
The two of you finally arrive at his house to work on a project that you two had been putting off because of marching band and other commitments. It was a simple research project that had to be presented in front of the class. It wasn’t too difficult, but something was distracting you. Maybe it was all the things that happened today, maybe it was the fact that you finally set foot in the dance room after practically being banished from it or maybe it was the fact that the boy next to you was only giving you silence. Either way, something was getting to you. You brush it off in favor of focusing on the project. It could be dealt with another day if it was truly that important.
—
Another day, another talent show rehearsal. Slowly but surely, there was less and less time until the talent show so that meant some logistics had to be discussed. First off was the age old question of what would everyone wear during the performance. However, this caused some dissent within the group. “I refuse to wear green!” Drum or Drummer complained. The other one agreed. Aaron was clearly not having it and let out a deep sigh.
“Just wear it. You’ll only have it on for 5 minutes max,” Aaron says, expression darkening. Drum and/or Drummer decided to shut up. They both nod and agree.
“Great! So now that’s settled, let’s do a run through! However, I will not be dancing in it and will just be watching you guys!” You say, sitting by the mirror in the dance room. Most of the drumline got nervous since you were who they’d watch for the choreography, but you were mostly just curious about their progress. “Sophie, get down here too! I think you should see your hard work as well!” She nods and takes the spot next to you. The boys get into their starting positions as you grab your phone and start the music. It goes off without a hitch! While there were some slip ups here and there, it was actually kind of good! You both applaud and go to join them! You’re definitely ready for the talent show. Afterwards, you and Aaron walk to his car in silence. He gives you a look as the two of you get in.
“What’s up?” You ask, confused.
“Nothing. Nothing at all,” he says, starting the car and pulling out of the parking lot.
“Are you sure? You were giving me a look and everything,” you say. He clearly wasn’t listening to you since he turned his music up louder. “Seriously, is everything fine?” He shakes his head. You’ve never seen him like this before. It was almost as if he was upset? Panicky? Nervous?
“I heard a rumor involving you going around, and it just doesn’t sit right with me.” You give him a look to urge him to keep going.
“Who’d you hear it from? What’d they say?” You ask, eyebrows knit together as you tried to think. You didn’t really have many enemies. Sure a few people disliked you, but not enough to spread a rumor like that.
“I don’t know who started it, but Sophie told me about it the other day. So please just take my word and ignore people, even if they are saying things.” You nod as he continues driving.
–
That incident was odd to say the least. This may have been what you were distracted by the other day. Aaron would walk you to class and keep you out of sight from the prying eyes and the hushed whispers coming from everyone else. You were sick and tired of whatever was going on. You couldn’t even find out what people were saying. On the way home with Aaron the night before the talent show, you snapped. “What exactly is going on?” You ask him. He doesn’t reply. “With me and the whole rumor thing. What is it? What are they saying?” You question him.
“Nothing that isn’t going to make your worrying even worse. You’re already stressed about the talent show, focus on that. I can tell you about the rumors when we’re done,” was all he said. You sigh. Well obviously you want to know even more now.
–
It was finally the night of the talent show, and after successfully performing, Aaron pulled you aside. “What’s up?” You asked, clearly confused. You finally finished performing and you did it well. He lets out a sigh at your question and holds your face in his hands. The two of you stay that way in the wings, as you hear the distant sounds of Poptart and Alex’s magic act.
“You know that whole rumor thing? And how I wouldn’t tell you what it was and I kept you from finding out about it?” You nod. He continues, “Sophie heard from her sister that a couple girls from the dance team wanted to sabotage you before the talent show. Something about how if you wanted to dance that badly, you should’ve stayed on the team or something.” You let out a snort that eventually turned into a stream of laughter. Aaron was clearly confused. “Are you not worried that they’ll do something to you or-”
You wiped away a tear from laughter as you tried to respond. “No I’m not! To put it lightly, I think they’re just bitter about a bunch of people quitting so they’re making empty threats to cope with it,” you say, clasping your hands with his. “I’m going to be fine. We’re going to be fine,” you say, smiling.
“EW! YOU TWO NEED TO GET A ROOM!” Alex says as he and Poptart walk into the wings. You and Aaron give the kid a look. “This is why your pigeon pooped on you during your magic act,” Aaron says as Alex goes bright red.
“No it didn’t! It just left me a little gift!” Alex says, trying to defend himself. Poptart sighs as he leaves and lets the boy try to sputter out a response. He runs after him when he notices that he isn’t going to get out of this one. Once he’s gone, you and Aaron give each other a look and immediately begin laughing.
“Did his pigeon really poop on him?” You ask, tears in your eyes forming once more. He nods.
“I didn’t see it, but I definitely heard him go ‘Noooo! Why’d you poop on me! How am I gonna get this out of my hair!’” He says, mimicking the younger boy’s voice. You both laugh.
“Wanna get ice cream after this? It’ll be my treat since I made you worry so much about me,” you say with a smile on your face. He murmurs something that sounds a lot like a yes.
–
The two of you enter the ice cream shop with matching smiles on your faces as you both order. He gets coffee flavored ice cream and you get vanilla with a bunch of toppings. He lets out an amused chuckle at your excitement as you almost spill one of the many toppings on it. He wanted nothing more than to cherish this moment forever.
“Aaron?” Your voice breaks him out of his thoughts.
“Hm?” He hums, clearly enjoying his ice cream.
“Thank you.”
“For what exactly?” He smirks as you playfully roll your eyes at him.
“Just being you. And worrying about me even though you really didn’t have to,” you say sheepishly. You still felt kind of embarrassed that he’d be willing to do something like that for you, but you also felt grateful that you had someone like him. He nods and opens his mouth to speak, but quickly closes it. You tilt your head, bewildered.
“It’s nothing. I was just going to say the same thing you did,” he says, letting a smile light up his face. You didn’t really believe him and you both knew that he was keeping something to himself, but you both leave it at that. You enjoy the moment between the two of you while it lasts.

QOTD: What's your moment embarrassing moment during a time of intimacy?
Mine was today and I've never just wanted to throw myself from a building so bad in my entire life. It was just that bad, we're about to get down to business and we're just chatting because I talk to ease my mind about things, you know? I'm a little new to the sex scene after all... (definitely some details I'll be dishing out later on) and of all things to say, I make a comment about roast beef.
Yall?
WHY DID I NOT KNOW ROAST BEEF WAS AN INSULT?!?!
and now I feel terrible because I've accidentally called someone vag!n@ roast beef when I didn't even mean it like that, I just thought that's what you say when it's brown???? I have some regrets about my life, but what more can I do?!?!? I apologized and they went home, it's out of my hands now. But, on the other hand. Let's talk about men (a small disclaimer, I am a nonbinary pansexual who has never had sex with a guy, my first was literally the person I accidentally called roast beef and I can't stop thinking about it... I really want to crawl into a hole and try to will myself outta existence... Like Plankton when he was trying to think too hard)
Anyway, men. One of my best friends on campus (more info: I am a college student, and the actual drama that goes on is ridiculous. sometimes you can absolutely tell that everyone here just got out of high school because the way that they act is just WILD, but I digress) one of my best friends' boyfriend is being really shitty. I'll never understand why guys act like it's so hard to break up with a girl when they feel they need to instead of stringing her along and making her feel like there's hope for something when he's seemingly already made up his mind! Like come on, so for the past few months now my friend, we'll call her Serena (named after serena from gossip girl because I've been binging it lately teehee), her boyfriend has just been acting really off. I really wish i could go into detail about all of these things (how they met, what's going on, etc etc., it's important lore but all in good time I guess?) because, sometimes it baffles me how much my college life is actually like the movies???? Like I kid you not guys, it's wild. Ever been to a college Halloween house party? Ever seen one in the movies?
My first one was the previous Halloween and in true cliche freshman college student classic, I was a sexy angel and I got absolutely hammered. The person I was talking to at the time (same person, we're not dating and I'm fine with that. I can't handle the heat so I'll stay outta that kitchen), had to be called because there was some guy that kept following me around the party while I was literally on the brink of passing out, that's how drunk I kinda was. But, that's only one of the best things, shortly after I'd had to leave (my friends decided it was time to go because the party was dead and we were all drunk and bored, not me tho I was enamored by my "friend(we'll call them Pepe from now on, like the meme)" like I was happy to have them around. I'd invited my friends from another college to meet up with me at that party, but they didn't get there until I had to go. So, I'm on my way back to campus and a good 15 minutes into the ride, I go on snapchat just to see that the girl who shares the boarding house (idk what it's called, it belongs to the college I think and they live there) with the host of the Halloween party, her boyfriend is posted up trying to fight someone for flirting with his girlfriend!
There's always so much drama and so much shit going on, so I decided to maybe start blogging as an outlet? Does anyone still read those? Like honestly, I'd like to know. I've been binging gossip girl lately and that's something that made me want to get into it again. My other blog is a book review blog, but no one cares for that one right now.
I am however going to steal gossip girls' thing soooo
After all this you're probably wondering who i am and what in gods name im even talking about, but that's a topic for next time.
Until then, xoxo Myth <3
Alright, future Myth here and i just want to say, I'm literally in the middle of setting up my blog right? and i go to make food and I come back and check my phone to see a missed call from pepe so I call back and it goes to VM >:( I can't be mad because I get it, they're probably not going to come over for another month again but hot damn.

You idk if you taking requests but you know that one award show moment where Nicki Minaj is like “Shoutout yo Donatella for custom making this dress for me and shoutout to Michel B Jordan because he gonna be taking it off me tonight” PLEASE do one where Jack says something along those lines omg 😭😂 I just feel like Jack would say that about the reader
Big shout out
A/N: This is rapper!reader i hope that’s okay. I got this request a while ago but im glad i could finally get to it.
Jack and You have been friends for a couple years now. Both your careers started around the same time and you two became close after being part of the XXL freshman class of 2020. Jack was always very supportive of you and you of him.
He would give you advice on how to deliver your bars and flow while you would give him advice on his lyrics and beats. Things tended to get a bit hectic when albums had to be dropped and tours had to be done but the two of you always made time for each other.
Whether it’s a facetime or a brief text or a voice recording, you guys did not go a day without hearing from one another. Most people believed that the two of you were dating until you made an instagram post revealing your brand new relationship with Polo G.
That was your first mistake. Posting a brand new relationship was never a bright idea and unfortunately you learned that the hard way. You and Polo had a rough start to your relationship due to claims of him talking to other women while we he had you convinced that he was loyal. The two of you would break up and make up constantly and your business would be on gossip pages every few weeks.
On the other hand, Polo always had an issue with Jack being the friend you confided in during your fights with him. It ended up with him dissing Jack in one of his songs which simply lead to another fight between the two of you even though Jack never gave any reaction in return. December 2021 you finally had enough and posted an official announcement that Polo G no longer have or want anything to do with one another. Your comments were flooded with mixed reactions but sadly, most of them were saying how this is just another one of your stupid fights and you would take him back again.
This time you had put your foot down and wanted to start your 2022 peacefully with brand new goals ahead. Throughout all your drama, Jack never treated you any differently. In fact the two of you got even closer after your break up and dropped an album together in March. You had made an instagram post wishing him a happy birthday and it went viral unintentionally.
“The guy she tells you not to worry about.” Was what everyone but mainly men were saying. The thing is, you and Jack had never crossed any lines of friendship. Everything between the two of you has always been strictly platonic except for a couple suggestive jokes here and there but that was normal between friends. Everyone around you and Jack always say that there’s a spark and lots of tension between you two but neither of you ever acted on it.
Around may you noticed Jack started flirting with you a lot more and the lines of friendship began to blur. It wasn’t surprising but at the same time you were never prepared for the things he would say. “Megan asked you to perform at her birthday party right?” “Yeah, i’m excited.” “Isn’t it at a strip club?” “So?” “If I come will you do a dance?” He said it with such a straight face and that only made it more shocking to you. No smug or goofy smile that he usually had when he was joking.
The flirting went on for months and you were definitely flirting back.
September rolls around and it was soon to be the VMAs. You were set to perform your new song with Flo Mili and Jack was opening and co-hosting the show. You were getting ready in your hotel room with the help of your team when your phone started ringing and of course it was Jack.
“I’m getting ready what do you want?” You say while your makeup artist applied your eyeshadow. “Damn. No hello? Let me see you, all I see is the ceiling.” “Jack I can’t move too much i’m getting my makeup done.” You lifted the phone facing you and Jack let out a loud whistle that even startled your make up artist. “WHEW you look so fine my goodness.” He had a giant smile on his face just like a kid on christmas. “That color looks beautiful on you.” You were a giggling and flustered mess. “Thank you. Now show me your snazzy suit Mister Givenchy.” Jack panned the camera down to his all black suit that was snug around his small waist and just right around his wide shoulders. He looked so good you could just eat him up.
“You like what you see huh?” “Yeah I need me some of that.” You flirted back with no hesitation. “You don’t need Givenchy, you need jesus.” “That was disgustingly cringe worthy Jack.” You shook your head at him. “I’m gonna let you finish getting ready. Can’t wait to see your beautiful ass in that dress.” “You just saw me in the dress.” “Yeah but I didn’t see your ass cause you’re sitting on it.” Both of you couldn’t hold back your laughter this time as you hung up the call.
Once you got to the VMA’s black carpet everyone went wild over your dress and how beautiful you looked. The night went very well and you were having a good time. You enjoyed Jack’s opening performance and the two of you were sitting not too far from each other so you would dance to songs together and lip sync to one another.
Jack was nominated for multiple awards and he had already won 2. This next category was his last nomination and it felt as if you were more nervous than him. “And the award goes to…JACK HARLOOOOW” You screamed of excitement as Jack got up, hugged you and dapped dj drama who was sitting next to him up, before going on stage to receive his final award of the night.
“Wow…three in a row that’s a new record.” The crowd cheered loudly as he took a moment to admire the trophy. He let the crowd calm down before yelling into the mic. “BITCH I TOLD YOU” and the crowd went wild all over again. “I just want to thank everyone on my team, my producers, my parents.” “And just before I go I wanna give a big shout out to Givenchy for custom making this suit for me and shout out to y/n cause she’s gonna be taking it off of me tonight. Thank you.”
The stadium was louder than ever. Your hand was covering your open mouth in shock of what Jack had just said live at a world known award show. You could feel your cheeks get super warm as everyone else was cheering at his boldness. You two definitely had a lot to talk about later that night. Once the show was over and you guys left together, not much talking was done. Unless body language counts….if so, more than enough was said.

One of the things that really gets to be about that post about how Katara wants to be fun is that she doesn't get that in her relationship with Aang? She constantly has to mother thanks to him. Either mother him while he's having fun and she has to try and get him to take lire more seriously and then she eventually gets left alone to mother two small children while he flies off with the third.
And while Zuko isn't shown to be as exciting as Aang in ATLA, he's shown to be funny. And he's learning to have fun himself. Katara doesn't have to mother him and I would have loved to see them organically learn to have fun together after they defeated Ozai
You've said it perfectly anon. In my opinion, the problem isn’t necessarily that Katara doesn't know how to have fun, it's that she feels the need to be responsible to the point that she can’t have fun.
For a long time I've struggled with that myself. I don't feel like I'm a particularly fun person and that's especially true around people who are younger than me or act more recklessly. I can’t make myself let go of that responsibility for fear that something will happen to the others around me because I wasn't making sure everyone stayed safe. It's a tad bit unreasonable (probably more than a bit tho lol), but it's something that’s really hard for me. You get the comments of "Oh wow you're so mature for your age!" and people thinking that you're a senior in high school when you're actually a freshman just because of the way you carry yourself. All that pressure mounts quickly, cementing that motherly role of responsibility in place.
I’m able to have a lot more fun now that my friends are older and less immature. They aren't going to do something unspeakable foolish (probably) and I don't feel the need to be on my guard. I adore them. I feel like if Aang actually had an arc within the show regarding this, I would hate Kata*ng slightly less, but alas, he does not. Aang is shown time and time again to go along with whatever is the most fun whether that be scamming with Toph, running around Kyoshi with a fan club, or even attending a festival in the Fire Nation when they're trying to keep a low profile. That is the exact behavior that would make me go "I have to make sure no one does anything to get hurt" because let's be real, two of the three things I just listed could have heavy consequences.
One of Katara's biggest driving forces and characteristics is her passion. She wants to fight, she wants to protect the people around her, she wants the people she loves to be happy, she wants justice and equality, and she wants to make the world as she thinks it should be. That is so admirable and I don't think it's a stretch to say that a personality like that is loud and can get tiring to people. I've mentioned it before, but I've dated someone like Aang, someone who didn't like conflict or taking up space in a room when it wasn't positive. It does not mesh well. I always felt like I was just annoying and should get over things-- or even that the things I was upset about weren't a big a deal at all and I was just a drama queen. It really hurts to be stuck in that loop, and to see Aang not fully support that side of Katara is painful. Going with the flow isn’t for everyone. It’s not for me, and it’s definitely not for Katara, aka the girl who brawled with a grown man to prove a point, knowing that she would absolutely lose. You shouldn’t be with someone who isn’t able to support your battles. They don’t even necessarily have to be fighting by your side. They can hold your flowers and cheer you on while you beat the shit out of all of the Pakkus you’ll face in life.
Aang is shown to be uneasy when Angry, Passionate Katara rears her powerful head, but Zuko is uniquely not. Most of the other characters within the show are at least a little caught off guard when Katara slips from her kind and compassionate demeanor, but not our lovely boy Zuko. I think that scene in “The Southern Raiders” is the perfect example of this. She is yelling and scolding him and instead of retreating or curling into himself, Zuko listens. He’s not inherently afraid because this isn’t how Katara usually is, which may be due to the fact that he’s seen both sides of her with about the same level of familiarity within the catacombs, but either way he’s able to actually think about what she’s saying. Zuko not being afraid of her when she’s not calm and at ease is a very powerful message to me at least because I feel like I can find someone who isn’t afraid of how intense I am. There are people who don’t need me to be more palatable to their particular levels of intensity. The idea that a women does not have to bend her personality to fit her partner’s idea of who she is or what she should be is one that should be more mainstream, and it’s a huge inspiration to me in my own life. A lot of the Zutara fanfiction I’ve read (and I’ve read a lot) is very empowering to me in that sense-- Katara and Zuko are able to unapologetically be themselves with the other and won’t let anyone tell them otherwise. It’s amazing and a wonderful example to girls and women of any and all ages (and anyone else for that matter. Everyone deserves a good partner if they want one).
Everything I just discussed so far is a huge part of the reason I ship Zutara. It's been said before that Zuko is the only member of the Gaang (besides like... Suki lol) that Katara does not mother within the show. It's also implied that Zuko helps Katara be an authority figure in the group, earning them the legendary "Momtara" and "Dadko" titles. I would want that kind of support for myself and since I relate to Katara, I see Zuko as a much better and more equal partner for her than Aang. And that's nothing against Aang! I despise what he became in book 3 but our baby boy in book 1 had so much potential for growth and change. I adore that Aang and I'll never get tired of blaming Bryke for twisting his character into the incel they can only aspire to be.
Zutara is a ship that has dozens and dozens of reasons to support it. I've seen very few ships with as much backing as Zutara. From the way two compliment each other within the show to the subvert lore the show has that parallels Zutara, there's a lot to love, and to me it also has the appeal of being something a real life person would want in their relationship. They understand each other, they apologize to each other, they grow together, they love unconditionally-- that's all so beautiful.
I know if the Kata*ngers find this they'll shit all over me for "projecting" but I think it's really important for people to relate to the characters they see on screen and see bits of themselves littered throughout. It makes a story more compelling and is infinitely more inspiring. Struggles that I see Katara have are ones I've seen in my own life-- at one point when I was a bit younger I even hated Katara because I saw so much of myself in her. These stories mean more than canonicity and more than what value a writer assigns to the character. It’s very clear that Bryke only saw Katara as Aang’s motivation and prize, which is so harmful! No person anywhere is a prize in any regard to anyone. It’s horrifying that this was displayed to people as ‘romance.” Katara is a character that is so vastly important for female representation (as well as other forms of representation) and as I briefly mentioned, Katara is a character who was very inspiring to me. She is a character that was able to give me more confidence in myself and realize that I am not an annoyance for speaking up when something feels/is wrong.
That was a long ramble and I hope it’s somewhat pleasing to you anon lol. I hope you’re doing well out there in the world <3
#cilla rambled#zutara#pro zutara#pro katara#she really helped me no joke#i don't think i would be who i am rn without her#and i am a new era fan lol#anti kataang#anti aang#we're being safe here today#i'm not here to bother aang stans#anti bryke#i hate bryke#i don't know how they ruined katara's character in lok so thoroughly#it's impressive in a negative way

hi!! I love your writing so much!! Would I be able to request more of the high school AU headcanons, maybe with Venti, Kazuha and Kaeya? thank u so much!!
authors note ⊱ omg yes... i love this au a lot so i went ahead and wrote for it hahaha
also i mention kazuha’s mysterious samurai friend, who im just gonna call tomo, which is what the fans generally refer to him as from what ive seen!!!
part one (albedo, childe, zhongli)
characters ⊱ venti, kazuha, kaeya
warnings ⊱ mentions of drugs and alluded family issues in kaeya’s, but other than that, completely safe! please enjoy!
rating ⊱ sfw
venti
the theater kid who everybody somehow knows, even without sharing a class or club with him; he’s strangely capable of drawing everyone’s attention, even to the point of his own detriment, and probably knows the name of almost everyone in school due to the random and weird situations he’s gotten himself into
also the kid that is a senior but everyone thinks is a freshman, maybe a sophmore, because he looks so young
plays roles in theater / drama without any sense of gender restraint; can perfectly nail a feminine, androgynous, or even masculine character
has very average grades except in the classes he actually cares about, which are all generally pretty artsy (music, drama, what you’d generally expect)
fails all his math classes, and fails them hard - it’s reached a point where he has to make up a few credits to be able to graduate, but that’s okay, he’s not good at everything, and he’s happy with that
probably got tutored by several different people but none of them can really get him to develop a good work ethic
the kid that probably circles ‘c’ on all the answers for a test he doesn’t understand and somehow manages to get a passing grade (but not an exceptional one)
has a very low attention span which really doesn’t help his studying or homework skills
he doesn’t drive at all because he’s bad at it and it gives him awful anxiety, even though he’s old enough to drive and could very well work towards getting a license (usually he leeches off his friends for a ride, haha)
you probably meet him through some weird circumstance like when he brings his pet lizard, dvalin, to school (against the rules), or after he tries to do the, this bitch empty! yeet! soda can thing and then bonking you on the head with it, or alternatively, and this is where im going to lean into: he’s pretty much had a crush on you since the moment he saw you in his class
and venti is simultaneously going to be heavily pining for you while also spontaneously walking up to you and making any excuse he can to interact with you because he wants to be your friend (and maybe, after that, something more)
he’ll try and join one of your clubs, like he might come up to you and be like, “haha, wait, aren’t you in that chess club? i love chess!” he does not love chess. he loses to it all the time against zhongli. he hates it. (but he’ll grin his teeth and join it because he wants to be with you)
and it sort of escalates from that point, and if you were ever interested in theater, he’s an instant ticket in (as long as he thinks your vouchable, he wouldn’t lie)
extremely touchy and affectionate even as just a friend; he’s the type of person you have a crush on and it only just becomes infuriatingly more evident because he’ll lay his head down against your shoulder, or randomly come and sit on your lap (very casually), or give you those ‘friendly’ kisses on the forehead
and he definitely makes excuses to touch you, like saying, “oh, you got a dandelion seed in your hair!” while at lunch together, and he plucks it out between his fingers with a big smile, or he’ll do things like brushing his hand up against yours
the pining is awful and everyone is painfully aware of your crushes on each other, it’s horrendous
but at one point things boil over, maybe someone gets jealous or theres a small argument, and then venti (or perhaps you) stamps his feet down with a big frown and huffs, “i like you!”
once you two start officially dating, those frequent touches from before are basically unhinged in a way you could never predict
he becomes very clingy, even more than usual, to the point he’s pretty much hanging off of you, holding onto your arm, leaning into you; he’s full-blown pda, and doesn’t care what anyone else thinks
he really loves attention, he thrives off of any of your affectionate gestures, touches, or affirmations
goes overboard on valentines day, he gives you an excessive amount of gifts, ranging from flowers to candies to plushies, and he definitely, definitely, gives you a love letter that he wrote himself with a sheepish, shy smile
also the type to run around giving all his friends and especially you, some of those cute valentines day cards, except he gives way too much candy, to the point his friends are kinda worried about him haha
is not afraid to make out with you at any given moment or time, to the point that your friends will groan and you’ll probably be told off by a hall monitor or teacher, haha
he loves to hold your hand when walking to classes you share together, and on the ones you don’t share, he’ll eagerly walk you to yours, even if he ends up late for his own
study/tutoring dates but he keeps stealing kisses instead of concentrating, until next thing you know, you’ve just been making out for the entire time
doesn’t care one way or the other about school events unless it’s related to theater, music, or his friends, but he definitely wouldn’t mind going to homecoming or prom with you if that’s something you really wanted
but just be ready for him to drag you to every one of his performances or to be his date as he goes and supports one of his buddies (and he’ll spoil you the entire time with treats and kisses)
you guys end up being very well-known in the school, in a very infamous way, just because of venti’s excessive pda and desire to constantly talk about you
kazuha
the quiet kid that likes the seats by the window because then he can look outside
he doesn’t really cause much fuss in school, he’s extremely polite and good-natured, and generally well-loved and admired by all of the teachers and staff members, who inevitably end up knowing him because of his helpful, kind nature
he doesn’t really go out of his way to socialize with anyone, but in classes, you’ll always see him calmly raising his hand, and whenever he’s called on by teachers, he always knows the answers, even if it doesn’t seem like he’s paying attention
has very beautiful, neat notes that are honestly enviable
his grades, however, aren’t very perfect, especially his test scores; he’s admonished by his parents for it, but he doesn’t see what’s so wrong with just having b’s and low a’s, with test scores that are only slightly above average
not super interested in college in general, he instead is making plans to just wander and travel the world after he graduates, since he doesn’t have any particular dreams or ambitions
gravitates largely to his friend group, which consist of tomo, gorou, thoma, ayato, and miss ayata, with the occasional appearance of yoimiya; obviously, tomo is his best friend, but he hangs out with gorou quite a lot, and these two are basically the bread and butter of his social interactions
the type who would probably have a crush on you from afar but not really say or do anything about it, so his friends have to tease him about it until he gets the courage to eventually strike up a conversation
and that opportunity comes with time, he’s a little anxious about it
but then he finally comes around, and next thing you know, in the english class you share with him, he walks up to you and airily asks if he could work with you on the assignment, and it all goes from there
ends up being your friend after consistent encounters; you asking him for help with classes, him seeking you out for companionship, and even you two end up beginning to each lunch together
but the funny thing is his friends are going to butt in and try to encourage you two to hang out more and more, especially tomo, but also gorou
they start befriending you as well, in a very sincere but amicable way, eagerly learning more about you and then basically dragging you into their friend group so you can spend more time with kazuha
because kazuha has a hard time initating a lot of things on his own
it also is probably them that ends up noticing when you start reciprocating kazuha’s feelings, and then it’s game over, they’re eagerly encouraging you to confess
and next thing you know, one blushing love confession between both you and kazuha later, you’re dating
you’ll find love notes and affectionate haikus tucked into all of the perfect places, waiting for you to find them—whether it be your locker, or in the page of a textbook you were studying with kazuha, or even just as a text on your phone
he also sometimes leaves small gifts; tiny trinkets, but all meaningful
sometimes it’s a lucky charm that is meant to bring you fortune, other times it’s your favorite flower that he used his allowance to buy from a florist
doesn’t really like social events, but if you wanted to go to school celebrations like prom or homecoming, chances are you’re in luck, because his friends might drag him into doing it anyway
he also doesn’t really like nor care for study dates; he’d prefer to just hang out with you
that said, he’d love to come over to your house or have you come over to his and meet his parents, even if they’re a little overbearing
he also would go on boba dates or weekend hangouts with you
on valentine’s day, he writes you a very meaningful love poem that he recites to you softly when you two are alone and in a very scenic place
you guys as a couple aren’t very well known by anyone except your friend group, who will tease you about it but in a very friendly, happy way, because they’re obviously very excited and pleased to see you two together
kaeya
he hates school, lmao
he knows how to drive, and he’s a very safe and good driver, he has a relatively nice car, but nothing fancy or special (the inside is always a bit cluttered and messy, though)
he also has a part-time job he does off-and-on, nothing super big, but just enough that it gives him experience and some cash to spend, since he is, unfortunately, pretty independent due to circumstances
his grades aren’t necessarily bad, but they’re not exactly the best; he gets relatively average grades that do spike up into more positive territory, but he’s failed a few classes, too
he’s good at studying, but it’s hard to find the motivation to care about the education system, because he doesn’t feel very rewarded for it
he skips a lot of classes though, he probably perfectly calculates how many credits he needs and what absences he can spare, and then goes and fucks off with rosaria, lisa, and venti (whenever venti decides to show up, that is)
him and his friends radiates that bisexual, they/them friend group energy, and it’s awesome
he’s definitely a senior, so he’s one of the more older kids at the school
he’s also friends with who you’d expect, and he’s surprisingly on school council despite his questionable work ethic; he’s sort of an assistant to jean, who is school council president, and he works with lisa and albedo there, too
despite skipping classes and being pretty indifferent about his own grades, he is extremely encouraging and supportive to all of the younger students he ends up meeting and helping
like, bennett and amber, for example, are basically these freshmans or sophmores that he’s constantly looking out for, and he always is their cheerleader, strongly motivating them to get really good grades, go to their classes, and carve a future for themselves; he will give them rides to school if they need it, but they don’t ever take him up on his offer unless it’s an emergency
fucks around and acts like a dick when he’s with his fellow seniors and especially his friends, he probably annoys albedo and childe a lot, but for the most part, whenever he sees a new student or if they’re in the first or second year classes, he’s always a nice and friendly face for them, he wouldn’t hesitate to help them out
he wouldn’t call himself ambitious, but he’ll probably do something with law enforcement or general governing management after he graduates, even with his very odd school record
even if it doesn’t look like it, he does kinda want the world to be a little better, and he does want to create change in what ways he can
meeting him isn’t really that hard, he tends to gravitate people into his presence, and he’s always willing to help those he sees worthy of being helped
so chances are you probably just bump into him or he randomly gives you an act of kindness with a shrug of his shoulders and a casual smile
i think the best way you’d probably meet him is by also being a senior, and then one day in class, the teacher is out of the room, and everyone is messing around and being goofy
and next thing you know, kaeya is randomly seating himself next to you, one of his skipping-class-friends at his side, and asking you a very random question, like, “hey, do you think our teacher looks like a drug dealer?” and it just goes through an entire conversation about it, all with him being very inclusive and relatively friendly, and after that, he just thinks you’re cool and will easily approach you and be your friend
he’s the type of person that wants to know what you want to do after high school, because he likes to encourage the people he cares about
although he doesn’t mind if you wanna skip with him, he kinda has a small frown and always seems a little reluctant, asking you if you’re sure you want to, since school is important, just not for him, and you don’t need to miss out just to hang out with him
for the most part, encourages you in a similar way he encourages amber and bennett, but if you have your own plans, then he’s cool with that, and will work with it
probably ends up confessing his feelings to you after weeks and weeks of gross, quiet pining
he’s pretty hidden about it, but he always finds excuses to touch you, like playing with your hair while joking or teasing, or gripping your shoulder when he laughs really hard, or leaning conspiratorially close to your side to whisper in your ear
and rosaria does that thing where she takes a drag of her cigarette and calls him out for it when its just him and his friends, and she’s like, “dude, you’ve got it bad. it’s gross.”
at some point, he’s just going to catch you after classes and say, “hey, you got a moment? i want to talk with you, it’s pretty important.”
and once you two find a nice place to be alone, he’ll confess; and it’s very sweet, actually
once you two start dating, he sort of tries to figure out how affectionate he can be around you
he’s hesitant when he reaches for your hand while sitting next to you in class, but then you loop his fingers with yours, and he relaxes; after that, he starts holding your hand more often
he’ll try to gauge how loving he can be; would you be okay with it if he hugged you? picked you up and spinned you around while laughing when you’re at lunch together? if he wrapped an arm over your shoulders or put his jacket over your body to keep you warm?
but once he figures it out, then he’s going all in, knowing the boundaries, but eager for the attention
because truth be told, he’s lonely, and it’s nice to have someone who really cares about him, especially like this, especially someone who cares about him as much as he cares about them, and archons, you’re perfect
generally a super sweet boyfriend
he’ll pick you up and take you to school or back home, if you wanted, but he’d do that even as just friends, honestly
really bad at homework and most school subjects, but if you’re struggling with a problem for your assignment, he will go out of his way to look it up and completely understand the subject, specifically so he can help you get your work done
subtly figures out if you want to go to homecoming or prom, and then based on whether you want to or not, he’ll take you, or he’ll just coop up with you at home
definitely goes on a lot of dates with you afterschool, but he’ll make any excuse to just hang out while at your house or you at his
surprisingly clingy, he follows you around like a puppy, even if he keeps the facade of cool indifference (as i said: lonely)
on valentine’s day, expect a bouquet of your favorite flowers that is perhaps the largest you’ve ever seen, with a goofy little teddy bear and a valentine’s day card that he very affectionately wrote sappy things on
definitely takes you on a date afterschool on valentine’s day, anywhere you want, his treat
lets you stay over at his apartment whenever you want, sleepovers galore (in fact, please do, he really needs company; for the second and millionth time: lonely.)
extremely adoring, you guys are the type of couple that gets married after being highschool sweethearts, and it’s super cute

Love Delivered To Your Doorstep
Evan Buckley x Reader
Warnings: fem!reader, mentions of cheating, break ups and killing/serial killers. (<in a joking context)
Category: fluff for the most part.
Word Count: 3.9k
Author’s Note: Doesn’t follow canon, it has a little of buck begins in there but it doesn't follow a strict timeline. It also is written like Buck moves to LA and has his apartment from the moment he moves there while trying to figure out what he wants to do.
-----
Texting and calling was never your choice method of communication.
Letters had always been more of your thing.
Truthfully, they hadn't been your thing until your boyfriend moved halfway across the country for university. The two of you met in high school, freshman year and became inseparable since. Growing together and promising to always love each other no matter what -you always knew that couldn't be true but it never stopped you from telling him.
When he told you that he was going to be applying to UCLA during your senior year of high school, it came as a bit of a shock to you. The plan was always going to college together, get engaged when you were done school and then married with a house by 30.
You held out the hope of that being possible until the day he showed you his acceptance letter.
You were incredibly proud of him but it was real now, he was leaving.
You watched him pack up his entire life and uproot himself from New York and moved across the country. You sent the first letter to him at what was supposed to be his apartment.
September 30th.
‘Hi baby!
Just writing to see how you're settling in. How’s UCLA ? Have you gotten a chance to go around and get to see the place ? I know you’re there for school but you've got to live a little too. Hope your neighbours are sweet, your mom told me it’s a pretty nice place and it’s got a good view, sounds like your type of place. Hopefully I can come visit you soon.
I started my classes last week. My chem professor is a pain in my ass already, he expects us to read an entire textbook in a week - well not exactly an entire textbook but you get the point. My biology professor is a sweetheart, she showed us pictures of her kids and talked about them for an hour, I didn't realize being a mother was so interesting but she was cool. Also showed us a video of an appendectomy that one of her colleagues performed last week. How are your classes and professors ?
Did I mention I bumped into Sam at the grocery store ? Yeah, he’s back and he’s not fine to tell you the truth. He seemed like he was ready to snap but that might just be my judgment. He said to tell you hello if I spoke to you so- hello :)
I’m going to sign off here, I know this one is short but I don’t have much to update you on. Life’s been pretty dull without you. Hope you’re having fun out there, soaking up the sun for me.
Write me back soon, I love you.
Yours always, y/n’
You mailed the letter the next day, a few weeks had passed before you received a letter back. Except this letter had a different sender name but the same address.
October 22nd.
‘Hi y/n,
This isn't your boyfriend. (I'm assuming that’s who you're writing too based on the context of the letter) I’m Evan, I live in the apartment you thought belonged to your boyfriend or maybe you got the address wrong, I’m not sure. I know you were waiting for an update on all these exciting things that are happening at UCLA. I do not go to UCLA nor can I update you in anything exciting that’s happening there, sorry.
Anyways, the reason I'm writing you back is because I figured you’d want to know that this isn't the correct address and the person you were looking for isn't here before you send another letter and get no response. I was debating if I should have even written you back, but here I am, writing you back.
Your professor for chem seems like an ass to be honest (hope that’s not rude) and your biology professor sounds great, is she hot by the way ? because bonus points for that. Anyways, are you studying medicine ? I'm guessing yes because of the classes you're taking. I'm thinking of signing up to become a first responder but I haven’t decided yet on what yet or if I'm actually going to do it. Anyways, good luck on your classes and the shitty chem professor.
Hope you find your boyfriend (again, assuming)
Peace out,
Evan.’
To say you were shocked would be an understatement. How could the letter you sent to your boyfriend’s apartment belong to someone else ? Why was there someone else living in his apartment ? You dug through your apartment, searching for the paper he left you with the address, you finally found it buried in a drawer.
The address on the paper was identical to the one that Evan sent to you and to the one you sent prior to that. Either your boyfriend was lying or you were losing your mind.
November 4th.
‘Dear Evan,
I'm sorry that I sent the first letter to you and as you guessed, I was looking for my boyfriend who seems to be a bit MIA right now. His mother says that’s the right address and the place that she helped him move into. So I'm not really sure what’s happening there. Anyways, sorry for unloading all of that on you.
To answer your question, yes, I am studying medicine and no, she isn't hot. My bio professor is a 65 year old woman who loves her college aged kids very much. If that’s your definition of hot, then yes - she's got milf status
Have you decided yet if you’re going to sign up to be a first responder ? That’d be pretty cool. Imagine all the girls swoon over you and how many girls you’d pick up just for being a paramedic or a firefighter.
Wait, are you into girls ? Or guys ? You know, whoever you're into, just imagine how many of them you’d pick up.
Also, you’re not a murderer or anything right ? because I rather not answer questions when the police come asking about why I've been sending letters to a serial killer.
Anyways, signing off for now.
Yours always, y/n.
ps. if you do end up bumping into or meeting a guy that looks like my boyfriend, (tall, brown hair, brown eyes. he’s got a pierced ear and a little butterfly tattoo by his collarbone- though not sure why or how you'd see his collarbone) let me know or tell him that his girlfriend is looking for him.
Double ps, what size shirt do you wear ?’
Buck laughed at your absurd question. A person he didn’t even know was asking what size shirt he wore. The letter was set on the coffee table with the rest of the mail, getting buried under all of the stuff he had on there. It was almost the end of December when he realized that he hadn't written you back yet.
December 21st.
‘Hey y/n,
Sorry I've taken so long to get back to you. Things have been hectic over here. I’ve been doing some ‘soul-searching’ - I guess you could call it that and honestly, I don’t think if this whole first responders thing is for me.
I tried out bartending or well, the technical term is mixologist and I’m liking it so far, I think i’m going to stick with it for now.
How have you been ? How’s school ? Surely, you’re on break for the holidays right about now or at least when you get this letter. I hope that you're spending the break doing something fun.
I’m not going to make this very long, I’m sure you’ve been busy with whatever you’re doing right now.
Also, I’ve been meaning to ask. Have you located the mysteriously disappearing boyfriend yet ? I haven't seen anyone that fit your description.
well, that’s not true- I did and just to be sure I asked to see his collarbone, he looked at me like I was a mad man so I guess it wasn't him ?
Anyways, I hope you have a good holiday and you're probably gonna get this sometime between holidays, so merry belated (?) Christmas and happy New Years y/n.
Peace out,
Evan.
ps. medium or large, depending on what it is. Hopefully that answers your question weirdo.’
January 13th.
The morning of the 13th, he went down to check his mail. A box was there with his name on it, the return address was one he had only seen on an envelope. The box returned upstairs with him, setting it on the counter before opening it.
Upon opening it, there was a letter and some colourful tissue paper with what seemed like a sweater under it. He opened the letter first.
‘Dear Evan,
Happy New Years! How was your holiday going ? Did you do anything fun ?
I’ve been good and school is good too, I'm almost done my first year, isn't that crazy ? Just a few more months to go.
How’s your job as mr. mixologist going ? I'm sure you’ve met some wild people and heard some interesting stories.
As for the boyfriend situation, that's over. I’m not surprised to tell you the truth but it still kinda sucks. Anyways, so what happened was that his older brother had come home from college last year and brought a friend with him. She went to the same school as his brother but transferred to UCLA- anyways long story short, they hooked up while he and I were still together and he moved in with her after his mom helped him move into the apartment I thought he had.
But! I’m single and chilling now so it’s all good. (bonus, she cheated on him and left him so yeah)
I got you a little something for Christmas and as a “sorry for unloading all my boyfriend drama on you” present. I was in the gift shop and it made me think of you. Do you celebrate Christmas? I forgot to check oops. If you don't, count it as a just a “sorry for unloading all my boyfriend drama on you” present?
I got a large because I wasn't sure if it would fit. I hope you like it. That’s all for now.
Yours always, y/n.’
He unwrapped the tissue paper to see a blue sweater with the letters NYU on it. He smiled, he assumed that’s where you went. It was sweet that you took the time to get him something, even if it was a by the way thing. Not a lot of people would send something to a person they had been talking to via letters and halfway across the country.
February 12th.
2 days before Valentine's Day, your least favourite holiday of the year. You weren't looking forward to watching all your friends going on with their boyfriends and girlfriends. The mail had arrived while you were out, you picked it up and headed in. There were two envelopes with your name on it, a plain white one and a red one. The red envelope was more squared than rectangular, you assumed it was a card- both had the same sender name.
‘Hey y/n!
Thank you for the sweater, it was nice of you to think of me and get me something. I didn’t know we were doing gifts or I would have sent you something as well and yes, I do celebrate Christmas.
My job as ‘mr. mixologist’ was going well until I quit. It just didn’t feel like the right fit for me you know ? I'm going to see what else is out there for me.
Sorry to hear about your boyfriend, he seems like a douche. Who would cheat on you ? You seem great I mean at least you are on paper (did you get my joke, it’s hard to tell)
Also, remember how I was thinking I might actually give that first responder thing a try? Imagine me as a firefighter, that’s pretty cool right ?
So I kinda did a thing and signed up and then I got in. I started two weeks ago and it was kicking my ass at first but I've gotten a hang of it and things are going pretty well. There's three other Evans in my class so everyone calls me Buck-I kind of like it.
The other envelope, hopefully you opened this one first, is a little something for you for valentines. Hope you like it.
Peace out,
Buck’
The red envelope was on your lap, you pulled the edges carefully not wanting to rip it. Inside was a plain white card with bright red letters that made you laugh. The cover read ‘I’m not sick of you yet!” Opening the card, a $20 fell onto your lap. There was a little message inside that went along with the cash.
‘Since we aren't together and can’t spend valentines together, there’s some cash to get yourself a box of chocolates and a teddy bear. Happy Valentines Day y/n
Love, Buck.’
You smile, this was the first time that Buck had signed with ‘love, buck’ it had always been ‘peace out, buck.’ You tucked the card into the drawer, one you didn’t use very often so you knew it’d be safe there.
*4 years later*
A few weeks had passed since Buck had last heard from y/n. His last letter to her was at the end of June, telling her all about the day he had spent at Hen and Karen’s. He always described every little detail so vividly that it made her feel like she was there with him- but it was now July, end of actually and moving into August.
4 years had blown like nothing.
It felt like just yesterday he got the first letter in the mail. 4 years and they still had no idea what each other looked like but they knew every intricate and intimate detail about each other, their lives and the people in it.
Y/n and Buck had grown rather close over the last few months- more than they already were. Y/n just went through a pretty shitty break up and Buck wasn't exactly big on relationships as of right now.
He had just gotten home from work, his keys set on the counter when he realized that he forgot to check his mail. Stepping back out, there was a woman in the hallway and boxes scattered across her, leading into the apartment down the hall.
She must be his new neighbour.
He wanted to go over and introduce himself but she was busy telling the movers where to set her couch so he decided that he would check the mail and then introduce himself when he returned so he did just that.
Except, she was still busy.
She leaned against the wall, watching the movers move what looked like a coffee table. She glanced up to see Buck walking by, she smiled and he returned the smile.
Buck reaches his apartment, the mail in hand and steps in. He sorts through the pile, bills, ads, coupons and no letter from y/n.
---
Your new apartment was a mess. You decided it was time for a change. You applied to a few hospitals after your break up and the one in LA hired you. So you dropped everything and moved- no family, no ties.
A fresh start.
It was a nice neighbourhood and the building was quiet. The neighbours you met were pleasant and welcoming. When you were having the furniture moved in, there was a blonde man who smiled at you and you assumed he lived in the unit down the hall because that’s where he stepped into.
It was almost 11pm when you finally sat down. You had been on your feet all day and just wanted to eat something. The box with the dishes was beside the couch, you pulled the tape off and opened it. There was an envelope sitting on top of the stack of plates.
Buck’s last letter to you.
You must have tossed it into the boxes while packing and you forgot to write him back. Tumbling through the boxes, you find a sheet of paper and a pen from your bag. Sitting on the floor, the paper resting on an unopened box, you begin writing.
‘Dear Buck,
I’m sorry I've taken so long to get back to you. I quit my job, and uprooted my entire life. The break up sucked major ass as you know, so I decided it was time for a change.
Guess where I decided to go ?
Did you guess yet?
No, not Canada, why would you guess Canada ?
LA!
Yeah, isn't that crazy that I ended up here of all places? Maybe we could get together one day (if you haven’t turned into a crazy serial killer that is.)
Anyways, that’s why I've taken so long to write. I was packing when I got your letter and I tossed it in a box and just found it again. Anyways, I hope you’ve been good, how have things been at the station ?
I promise I'll write again with more details soon, I just have to get settled in first.
Yours always, y/n.’
Folding the paper, you slipped into an envelope. The address being scribbled into the back of the envelope. You were about to seal it when the building number caught your eye.
It was the same number as the place you moved into. The same address, the building number, the same floor.
The unit number was the only difference.
There was no way you moved into the building that Buck lived in.
You knew the address felt familiar when you saw the listing but you didn’t think anything of it nor did it occur to you that you knew the address.
Stepping out of your apartment, looking at the number on the room and back down at the envelope in your hand. Buck’s apartment was down the hall.
Part of you just wanted to mail it and keep things as it was but another part of you wanted to meet him, to see what he was really like in person. So there you were walking down the hallway at a quarter past 11 in the dead of the night to meet a man you had been sending letters to for the last 4 years.
The end of the hallway, you stared at the black wooden door in front of you. Your brain weighing the options right now: he’s a sweetheart and welcoming and makes you feel comfortable or he’s a weird guy who’s been lying to you this whole time and you told him everything about you and now he’s going to kill you.
Before you could register what you were doing, you knocked on the door.
Glancing down at yourself, you were wearing a pair of old shorts and a t-shirt from high school that you found in a drawer while packing. Not an ideal outfit, maybe he’s sleeping and you can go home and change- the door opened, a man wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt stood there. He looked like he had just woken up.
“Sorry, did I wake you?”
“It's alright,” he yawned, his hand covering his mouth as he blinked away a few tears. “What can I do for you ?” he leaned against the door.
“Um, this is an odd question-” you shifted, glancing down at the envelope in your hand. “Are you Buck ?”
“I am, who are you ?”
“Y/n.”
You had never seen a man wake up that fast, he seemed surprised, confused and concerned all in one. “How- uh, are you- What ?” he mumbled.
“I found your letter in the box after I moved, I moved into the apartment down the hall” you point to your left, Buck sticks his head out of the doorway and looks at the door you were pointing to. You were the woman in the hallway that he saw earlier, he knew you looked familiar.
“I just wrote your letter and I noticed that the addresses were the same, just a different unit number so I decided to come check. Sorry if I bothered you, we can talk another day- it’s late and you probably have work” “Would you like to come in?” he opens the door a bit more, looking to you for an answer.
“Um, okay sure.” stepping in, you can’t help but glance around. The apartment was similar to yours, the layout was a bit different though. “Can I get you something to drink ? Coffee, water ? A beer ?” he rounded the kitchen counter, you took a seat on one of the chairs by the counter.
“Water’s fine, thanks”
He reached for a bottle from the fridge, sliding it over to you. You gave him a smile, he leaned against the counter and was now looking- studying you.
“I know we’ve talked to each other for 4 years but this is kinda strange” you chuckled awkwardly, Buck can't help but smile.
“Yeah, it is, isn't it? but can I ask why you moved to LA?”
“Well all of that was in the letter” you slide the envelope across the counter and he picks it up, opening it. Giving him a few moments to read, you watch his expression like you were hoping for some insight as to how he was feeling or what he was thinking. He let out a laugh, “how’d you know I'd guess Canada ?” you smiled at him, a small wave of relief washing over you for some reason. “Lucky guess I suppose”
“Do you-” “What are-” the sentences cutting each other off, the two of you awkwardly smiling at each other. “You first” looking at him, he hums.
“Do you have work tomorrow or are you busy ?” His eyes meet yours, you found yourself leaning forwards towards the counter- towards him. He made you feel comfortable, you’d go as far as to say safe, in a way you’ve never felt before.
“No, I don't start until the 21st. Why ?”
“I was thinking - if you're not busy and if you want to, of course. Maybe I could take you out for breakfast and I could show you around ? Or lunch or dinner ? Whatever works for you actually” he rambles, fiddling with his fingers to avoid eye contact.
A small laugh slips past your lips causing him to look up, his brows furrowed as he studies your face, looking for an answer.
“Breakfast sounds good, what time should I be ready for ?”
“Uh, is 10 okay ?” he asks, you nod. “I’ll be ready for 10 then.”
“Okay, I'll pick you up” he smiles.
“Buck, we live in the same building.”
“Oh right,” he chuckles, “well I'll be by yours at 10 then” the two of you smiling at each other.
“Okay.”

hiii hope you’re doing well and drinking enough water!!! I’ve got an idea for high school nerdy wanda that I wanna share with you and you feel free to write it or not! so wanda is nerdy, shy and adorable and reader is popular and actually nice and has always been intrigued by wanda. I was listening to drivers license by olivia rodrigo when this idea came to me so, reader probably gives wanda a ride and it becomes their thing and reader is always saying wanda should get her driver’s license and they eventually get together and it’s all cute and fluffy but there’s this blonde girl (for the sake of the song lol) who’s obsessed with reader and always makes wanda nervous and jealous. so when said girl finds out about reader and wanda (let’s just consider this girl the typical most popular girl in school trope) she threatens reader and makes reader break up with wanda and get with her. you decide what the threat would be. maybe something really personal about reader or wanda’s past that would haunt them if people were to find out. but then reader and wanda get back together in the end of course. sorry it’s so long and again you don’t have to write this!!
Hi, honey, is everything alright? I hope so! I had to listen to Drivers Licence One Hour Version to write this, but I liked it haha This song is great for dramatizing a romance I never experienced, and I hope you'll be pleased! By the way, i kept the original drama of the singers (the whole guy was older and stuff)
Happy reading.
Drivers License - Wanda Maximoff x Reader
Warnings: 13+, Language, mentions of abuse/sexual harassment, bullying, underage kissing.
Words: 2.642K // Read on AO3 too
You met Wanda Maximoff in your senior year of high school.
It was raining heavily, and you had stayed late at school to take care of your responsibilities as leader of the athletic team. You figured that at that time there would only be you and the janitor in school, but as you were leaving towards the parking lot, you bumped into someone.
- Damn it, I'm sorry! - you said, looking at the person. It was a girl about your age, but you had never seen her before. She looked away from you immediately, as she bent down to pick up the books you dropped. - Hey, let me help you with that.
You bent down and helped her pick up the books, and when you stood up, you handed them to her with a smile.
- Thank you. - She spoke softly without looking at you. Maybe she was shy, you thought.
And then you heard thunder and let out an exclamation, an idea occurring to you.
- Hey, are you driving? - you asked gently, and the girl frowned, but denied it with her head. - I can give you a ride, because of the rain.
- Oh, that's okay. No need. - She denied, blushing. You let out a little giggle when a louder thunderclap sounded.
- It's no bother, really. - You said, smiling. - Where do you live?
- On the Sokovia complex.
- Wow, you see? We are practically neighbors. - You reply cheerfully. - I live two streets away from your house.
The girl nods, looking away. You put your hand in your pocket.
- All right then. - She finally agrees, and you smile as you open the door to the parking lot, and walk out in front with her walking slightly behind.
You walk in silence to your car, but when you start the vehicle, you want to talk to her.
- So, what's your name? - you ask gently as you drive in reverse to leave the parking lot.
- Wanda. - She answers in a small voice looking out of the window. - Wanda Maximoff.
- I've never seen you before, Wanda. - You comment, and then you are outside, and the rain makes a loud noise against the car.
- I'm a first-year. - She says and you let out a sigh of understanding. That' s why you didn't know her, she was a freshman. - But I know you.
You let out a surprised little laugh.
- Oh yeah?
- Everybody knows.
- Is it bad?
She shrugs, smiling slightly. You think you already like her. You then turn on the radio, letting some pop song play softly, and then you start tapping your fingers on the steering wheel to the rhythm of the song.
- Since you are a first-year, you must not have a driver's license yet, right? - You comment, and Wanda denies it with a grumble.
- I'm only 15. - she says. You stop at a traffic light.
- Why were you in school until now? - you ask curiously.
- It's the best time to be in the library. - She answers, looking at you briefly.
You are silent again, and then you arrive in the area of the Sokovia residences.
- Hey, Wanda. - You call out to her before she opens the door. - I can drive you to school if you want. - And seeing her surprised expression, you quickly add with amusement. - Just until you get your license.
Wanda smiles, and nods in agreement before leaving.
It took 160 rides for you to realize that you were in love with Wanda Maximoff. And you thought it was not surprising at all.
From the first time you saw her, you thought she was impressive. And then every day of the week, you had a vision of her half-asleep leaving the house, and greeting you with a smile. You talked about everything, from the most superficial and random things, to your insecurities and fears. You shared your breakfast, and sang songs together. But then you'd get to school, and your friends would surround you, and Wanda would disappear. You only got her back on the way out, when you gave her a ride home.
You didn't say anything about it, and neither did Wanda. It was as if your car was the safe space in your relationship. And you were completely terrified of messing it up.
And then it rained again, but this time your car was in the outside parking lot. You ran to the car through the rain, and when you finally took cover you were soaked. You started laughing the next second, and when you looked at Wanda, you couldn't control yourself.
- I want to kiss you. - You breathlessly confessed when you stopped laughing, Wanda blinked in surprise, her face red. - Is that all right?
It takes a moment, but she nods. Then you move on the seat toward her, and she meets you halfway. When your mouths meet, you both sigh. It's sweet and tender, and you part, leaving your foreheads together.
- Why did you stop? - She whispered with her eyes closed, making you gasp. And then you kissed her again, this time until the windows were fogged up.
Unfortunately things don't get amazing after that. The routine comes back to you, and then you are overwhelmed with end-of-year tasks. Even though you are completely in love with Wanda, and steal kisses between one ride and the next, you see the distance between you grow. Maybe it's the way you two act like you didn't know each other at school, or how Wanda won't tell you what your friend Sharon Carter was talking to her about the other day at school, or maybe it's the way you don't tell her that Tony Stark made fun of you for weird freshman.
And then things get much worse when you turn eighteen, because your friends start mocking you with the law on their side. And it's hard to concentrate on the good memories with Wanda while they tease and mock, and you want to go back to the car, but you have to smile and nod politely, because that's what they expect of you, and soon you're graduating.
You receive your acceptance letters from the universities, and you want to tell Wanda, but she is traveling with her family, and you are bored. And so you agree to celebrate with your friends who also got their letters, at some bar in town. When you start drinking, it's easy to dance and laugh all night, and when they tease you again, you want to leave, but there is a gentle touch on your shoulder. Sharon hugs you, and tells you that everything will be all right, that you should go out with someone who looks more like you, who is compatible, and when she says lots of sweet words, you want to remember smiles and stolen glances at school and gentle touches in your car, but your head is spinning and you accept her kissing you.
When you wake up, you are wearing no clothes, and there is a hand on your waist. You want to throw up, because even though you and Wanda never made a commitment, you feel the betrayal burning in your bones.
You want to yell at Sharon and tell her to leave, but then she's threatening you, with pictures you don't even remember taking. And when you get back to school, she tells everyone that you two are dating, and you wait for Wanda in the parking lot, but she doesn't show up.
You cry at your graduation, and not from happiness. And when the ceremony is over, you get in your car and drive one last time to Wanda's house, and you cry against the steering wheel. You are 18 now, with a diploma and a girlfriend. This is over, and you have to move on.
In college you meet someone who helps you, her name is Shuri, and after you have spent the whole first year being completely miserable, you have a literature assignment together. When you are going over the details of the presentation, at the third coffee meeting, you cry when you tell her about the photos.
- My girlfriend is blackmailing me. - You whisper, and she looks surprised for a moment, but then she hugs you, and assures you that she will help you.
There are police for a while, and then courts and court orders, and then therapy. You also make new friends now, good friends who don't judge or make fun of you. And then you pay attention in class again, and agree to join the track team.
You try not to think that there is only one thing missing in your life, because you have no right to disappear and go back to her life, but you can't help it missing her.
But you swallow your feelings, and try to pay attention to the future.
You come home in the fall, and your past comes back to you. You don't think you've ever talked much to your brother about school, but then you find yourself asking. And as he talks, you ask about Wanda.
- Wow, I remember her. - He says. - That girl you used to drive around with, right? - he asks and you nod. - I never understood why Sharon was so mean to her, but I guess it all makes sense now.
You blink in confusion.
- What do you mean?
- I thought you knew that story. - He remarked nonchalantly while you were in the kitchen, he was looking for cookies. - She used to say such bad things to Wanda, as if she was superior to her, you know? I think she acted completely different around you.
Your heart is racing. Confused and angry.
- Why didn't anyone ever tell me this? - You complain and your brother frowns.
- Look, it wasn't anyone's problem.
- It was my problem. - You retort. - I would have interfered, I liked Wanda!
Your brother is surprised by your outburst, but says no more. You drag your feet out of the kitchen.
You want to scream in anger, or punch Sharon in the face, but it's not mature and there's a court order. So you throw yourself on the bed, sinking your face into the pillow. When you fall asleep, you dream of Wanda.
On your last day at home, you know you shouldn't, but you drive to her house. You think your heart is going to burst out of your chest, but you swallow your nervousness and get out of the car. Wanda is on the porch, with her brother, and she looks surprised to see you. You assume that she didn't want to see you, but when she is close enough, she hugs you around the waist, putting her face into your chest. Your body instantly relaxes. You don't know if you're blushing from the hug, or from her brother's gaze on you, maybe a little of both, you think as you hug her back.
When you two are left alone on her veranda, you apologize for long minutes, because you're just sorry you lost her. But Wanda smiles, and holds your hand. And you are silent for a while, swinging your feet on the rocking chair. And then Wanda giggles.
- I got my driver's license. - She comments, and you let out a surprised and happy exclamation.
- Let's drive somewhere now. - you say excitedly. Wanda laughs.
- Where?
- Anywhere. - You answer already getting up, pulling her by the hand.
While you are in the car, she tells you that she is going to a university in the south, forty minutes away from yours, and you can't hide your excitement. And then you are turning on the radio and singing along with Wanda loudly as she drives down a highway.
When she drops you off, you exchange numbers, and you know that this time you're not going to let her get away.
You are busy with college. Very busy. But this time, there are messages and video calls from Wanda almost every day. And then she's in college, and she's just as busy as you are. And you start missing her a lot, and your friends comment that you should tell her how you feel.
So you're driving to her dorm, but when you get out of the car, she's arriving, distracted with some books.
You hug her from behind, lifting her slightly in the air, she is startled at first, but as soon as she realizes it's you, she laughs. She turns around quickly, hugging you by the neck, the books are pressed against you, but you don't mind.
- What are you doing here? - she asks with a smile. You think she looks beautiful.
- I miss you. - You say, making her blush. - Can we go somewhere?
Wanda thinks for a moment, but smiles.
- Sure, I just need to leave some notes with my roommate. - She says. - You can visit my dorm.
You nod, escorting her into the dormitory. When you walk in you try not to get too excited. Everything is so organized, even for a college dorm.
Wanda's roommate is not here, so she just leaves her notes on the desk while you admire her polaroid collection.
- Where did you take this one? - you ask, pointing to a photo where Wanda was wearing a sailor costume.
She walked from the table to you, and let her chin rest on your shoulder.
- At Sam Wilson's birthday party last year. - She answered, looking at the picture.
- You look nice. - You commented, letting your gaze wander to the other pictures. Then Wanda's hands encircle your waist, in an embrace, and you bite the smile from your lips. - And this one?
You point to a photo where she is with Pietro.
- Halloween. - She answers after a moment. - I think we were on the street outside the house. - You murmur in agreement, looking at the photos, and then Wanda is moving her face. - You smell good.
- Thank you. - You comment, ignoring the fast beating of your heart. And then your gaze catches an interesting photo. - Ulala.
Wanda looks at the photo you are reaching for with your hand, and lets out a sigh, hiding her face behind your back as she laughs.
- Wanda Maximoff in a bikini, world. - You playfully try to look at her, but she just lets go of the hug, hiding her reddened face in her hands.
You raise your hands to her belly, tickling her until she pulls her hands away from her face. And while you're laughing, Wanda tries to push you away, but you hold onto her waist, and you both end up falling onto her bed.
Your laughter slowly dies down, and you realize that Wanda is on top of you, your faces close together, and you swallow dry.
- I want to kiss you. - She confesses with reddened cheeks. - Is that okay?
You sigh and smile.
- Of course.
She smiles before bringing your lips together. It's as good as you remember, and then you're kissing until you're breathless, and Wanda sits on your lap at some point, and when your hands are on her waist and your fingers are through the fabric, you remember:
- I thought we were leaving. - You play out of breath.
- You're not going anywhere. - She replies with a smile and her lips swollen, before kissing you again.
Many dates happen after that, and two weeks later, you come back late from one of these, and you were planning something beautiful and impressive, but Wanda is smiling as she says goodbye and the words just slip out:
- Will you be my girlfriend?
Wanda blinks in surprise, taking her hand off the doorknob. And then she smiles, and advances against you, kissing you on the mouth.
-Of course, you idiot. - She says against your lips, kissing you again.
And you are smiling, and kissing. And you don't want to let her out of the car, but you do, knowing that she would come back.

how it feels

genre: fluff, slight angst

warnings: none
synopsis: comforting your best friend after a breakup usually doesn’t involve making him fall in love with you, but both of you just want to know what it feels like.
a/n: yes hello please enjoy this fic that i’m randomly dropping in the middle of my hiatus 🙃 i’ll hopefully be able to write a gg fic of some kind for y’all soon! the ending of this is so fucking lazy, sorry
word count: 5.3k
“Why, Y/N? Can’t she just tell me why?”
“I know,” you comfort, rubbing your best friend’s back as he sniffles with his knees up to his chest. It’s hard to see him in the darkness that’s brought by the blanket resting over the both of you like a tent, but in the glow of Hyunjin’s phone, you can see the tear tracks on his face. “I’m sorry, Jinnie.”
He pouts and scrubs yet another tear off his cheek, lamenting, “Why can’t I never fall in love with someone who loves me back? We’re only in high school, it shouldn’t be this complicated.”
Dabbing at his face with a tissue, you sigh, “I guess you have bad luck. Or bad judgement, could be both. There are plenty of people who are dying to love and appreciate you, you know, you’re the one who never spares them a glance.”
Hyunjin shakes his head. “No, those people only think I’m the long-haired guy from the dance team. They would treat me the same,” he frowns tearily. “I just want someone who likes me first.”
It always goes this way for him, you know-- you’ve seen it too many times, the stages of your best friend falling in love with someone who leads him on, enjoys his company for a while before dumping him and his expectations in the dirt. Maybe it’s the undeniable pressure to be the perfect partner that Hyunjin wants more than anything, or maybe he just always ends up liking assholes. But either way, it’s carnage for Hyunjin’s heart, and he never gets used to it no matter how many times it happens.
He’s too sensitive and warm-hearted for his own good, so all he can do after the latest breakup is cry into his favorite pillow on a Tuesday night. If you weren’t so willing to immediately come to comfort him, Hyunjin would’ve been doing it alone, too, and he would’ve cried for far longer than he has.
“Who do I go to prom with now?” he questions sadly, breaking you from your recollections about the many times you’ve done this before.
Unfortunately, all his question does is make you laugh. “It’s a serious question!” Hyunjin protests, scowling at you.
“Okay, I’m sorry,” you say, still chuckling. “I mean, would it be so bad to go to prom with a friend? I’m sure Yeji- wait never mind, not Yeji… I’m sure someone would go with you for appearances’s sake. Or if you don’t mind, just ask Lix, he’s too nice to say no even if he wanted.”
“That doesn’t make me feel better,” he says, flopping back onto his bed. The clock by his bedside reads 2:33 am, and you can already feel your physics final cursing you. “I want to go with someone I feel something for, you know? It’s our prom, Y/N, I want to feel the prom-ness of promposals and picking out outfits and all that with someone I love.”
You shake your head and push his knee lightly. “Unfortunately, most people our age haven’t even been in love yet, so I doubt many people can help you feel it. But you know what I’m feeling right now?”
“Please don’t say pancakes,” Hyunjin groans, “I’m not waking my parents up to teach us how to use the stove again.”
Throwing a pillow at him, you roll your eyes, “I feel tired, dumbass. And we have finals tomorrow, so how about we invite our friends out to get boba afterwards so we can find you a prom date? You can complain all you like about how the three weeks before prom happens are too short to fall in love, yadda yadda.”
“Fine. But don’t mock me, my many feelings are perfectly valid,” your best friend warns you, and rolls over to turn the light off.
Seungmin frowns when Hyunjin finally shows up at the entrance of the school’s closest boba shop, looking slightly disheveled from dance practice. “Finally. You’re annoying, and late.”
“Jeongin’s later,” Hyunjin objects, plopping down in the spot next to you and accepting the drink you hold out to him. The amount of mango yogurt with boba he drinks is definitely unhealthy (and expensive), but he’ll only groan more about his breakup if you didn’t get it for him. “Why do you literally never complain about him?”
“Jeongin’s cute, and you aren’t.”
The long-haired boy scoffs and sips at his drink sulkily as Felix returns with his own order. “Oh, hey, Hyunjin. I didn’t see you arrive,” Felix smiles sunnily. “Jisung’s not coming today, by the way. Something about having to stay for detention.”
You raise your eyebrows at that new piece of information. “Really? For what?”
“Playing a song entitled ‘Fuck You Bitch’ in Bio, I believe.”
Seungmin snorts in laughter, sighing fondly, “Sounds like him. Anyway, I heard we’re here to solve the problem of Hwang Hyunjin’s prom date. Or… lack thereof?”
“You’re so mean,” your best friend groans.
Ignoring him, you clasp your hands on the table and lean in conspiratorially. “I doubt any of you haven’t heard at this point, but he got dumped, for lack of a better word, and now, like the rest of us, Hyunjin has no prom date. But unlike us, he actually still wants one.”
“I’ll go with you,” Felix offers, still chewing on the straw in his mouth.
You elbow Hyunjin, who pushes you back before responding. “Thank you, Lixie, but like I explained to Y/N, I want to go with someone I’m in love with. I want to know how it feels, you know?”
“I don’t know,” Seungmin deadpans. At Hyunjin’s crestfallen expression, though, he says, “I mean, we can definitely try, but I feel like the rest of the people left in this school are either too young or not your type. And is 3 weeks really enough for you to be ‘in love again’?”
“Knowing me, maybe…? But I think I’d need to know the person already,” your best friend pouts.
Jeongin arrives then, conveniently missing most of the conversation before he squishes in on the end of the booth. “Well, you better not try to fall in love with me,” the youngest grins.
“I’d never pick you,” Hyunjin jabs back. “But out of the people I do know…”
“I volunteer,” you joke.
Your friends snicker, thankfully, but the boy sitting right next to you turns with a thoughtful expression on his face. “Actually…”
“I don’t like that expression,” Jeongin narrows his eyes.
“I think I could fall in love with Y/N in 3 weeks,” Hyunjin says nonchalantly, as if it’s nothing. He completely ignores all the shocked expressions around him.
In truth, as easy as Hyunjin falls in love, he’s also incredibly easy to fall for. You’d never admit it to him, but you have loved him before, with the kind of burning passion that he somehow has with every one of his relationships.
You’re over it, and you have been for a long time, but him saying that maybe he could love you so very easily makes it all come back up to the surface. “For real?” Felix questions.
“I mean, I don’t like you yet--” your heart falls (stupidly)-- “but I think I could.”
“So… what do you want me to do?” you ask.
Hyunjin smiles, so pure and beautiful that you wonder how his girlfriend just left him, and says, “I want you to help me figure out how it feels to really be in love.” He scrambles to interrupt Seungmin, whose mouth is opening. “It’s just three weeks before prom. We’ll just feel happy together, none of the other shit--”
“You are so cheesy,” Jeongin interjects. “And I think you’ve watched too many dramas. Did you pause to think how Y/N feels about your plan?”
You appreciate your younger friend’s considerateness, but the guilty expression on Hyunjin’s face prompts you to say, “I mean, I don’t think I could like you like that, so… sure. I’ll help you.”
“Really?” All three of your friends ask as they turn to you.
“Yeah,” you shrug. “What, you fall in love with me in three weeks for prom, I don’t reciprocate, but we move on as friends? I think it’ll be fine.”
“It never works like that though,” Seungmin doubts. He isn’t as cynical as he seems, but in the presence of overly-optimistic Felix and Hyunjin, he and Jeongin always end up as the voice of reason. Usually, you’re with them, but this time, you’re the one enabling the idiocy of the new plan.
Hyunjin grins, “Then we’ll make it work like that.”
With the amount of time that passes before Hyunjin mentions his plot again, you almost forget about it. The first week is normal in a way that makes you nervous-- you hang out like normal, doing homework in the library with your friends as Minho harrasses Chan, eating lunch wherever you can find a spot. There isn’t really time to be alone, just the two of you, and you aren’t sure how Hyunjin is supposed to ‘fall in love’ with you if it’s just normal.
Of course, it doesn’t last long.
It takes a while for it to set in that when Hyunjin asks you to go watch a drive-through movie with him, it isn’t just so he can show off his brand-new car. It’s a date, and it’s stated painfully clearly in his text from the night before.
However, you don’t realize it until you’re literally getting into his car in front of your house.
“Wait. This is a date, isn’t it?”
Hyunjin chuckles nervously, looking over at you in the passenger seat, and you notice for the first time that he’s put on a bit of makeup, and his car doesn’t smell like Jisung’s hot cheetos for once. “I mean, yeah. I meant it when I said I wanted you to help, and I thought you did too? It doesn’t have to be one if you’re backing out, though, it’s totally fine.”
“I’m not backing out,” you shake your head. You really aren’t-- so far, nothing has happened that would make you want to back out yet, and no freshman-year feelings for your best friend have resurfaced just yet. “I just forgot. You know me.”
“Yeah, I know your goldfish brain,” Hyunjin teases, setting the car in motion. There’s lo-fi playing, and he’s a good driver, so you relax. “You forget everything.”
“I do not! You’re the one who has to be reminded of everyone’s birthday but mine,” you protest. If he wasn’t driving, you would shove him, and you remind him of that, to his dismay.
Hyunjin hums as soon as the two of you fall into comfortable silence, your foot tapping lightly to the music, and with the sun setting on the distant horizon, it’s so familiar. You try to interrupt the peace anyway. “So, what movie are we seeing?”
“10 Reasons I Hate You,” he answers. “It’s a classic, and you haven’t seen it.”
“And you love romcoms,” you finish.
He doesn’t protest, only sending you a small smile. You’re pulling into the theater already anyway, in one of the better rows to watch the movie as Hyunjin turns his radio on and starts fiddling with it. “There’s snacks in the backseat,” he offers, to no surprise.
They’re some of your favorites, though there are also the chips that he can’t live without. There’s a blanket, which drapes awkwardly over the cupholder between the two of you, and a bottle of juice that you place in his lap immediately. “You like watermelon juice more than I do.”
“Thanks,” he says quietly, almost surprised.
You scowl and poke him, allowed to now that you’re safely parked and waiting for the movie to begin. “Don’t act all shocked, we’ve been friends since orientation and I’ve spent more than half my paychecks getting this damn juice for you.”
“Mean,” Hyunjin protests, but he hands you your favorite soda from under his seat anyway. “And shut up, it’s starting.”
He seems to know the intro to the movie, smiling when the first line of dialogue sounds, all crackly over the shitty radio, and you eventually stop staring at him to watch the movie instead. Of course, you can’t keep yourself from asking, “Why do you like romcoms so much, anyway? You’ve never explained to me, for all the ones I’ve watched with you.”
“I like happy endings, I think,” the long-haired boy responds after a short pause to think. “Not to be dramatic, but I haven’t had one yet, so maybe watching other people being happy makes me happier too.”
You nod, taking it as a perfectly acceptable answer. Knowing how sentimental your best friend is, it’s nowhere near a stretch, either, being something that just fits with his personality.
He talks occasionally to tell you a little tidbit that he knows: by the end, you’ve learned about how it’s a modern adaptation of a rather misogynistic Shakespeare play, how the entire movie was shot without sets, and how the scene of Kat reading the poem was the first take. It’s interesting, of course, but you’re more captured by the way Hyunjin’s smile glints in the weak light filtered through the car windows.
The sky is dark when the credits roll and Hyunjin reaches for the steering wheel, almost too dark for you to see anything outside when you’re driving back to your house.
“So? How was it?”
“How was what?” you ask, moving your hands around vaguely. “The snacks? The movie? The date?”
“All of the above?” Hyunjin says hesitantly.
You answer immediately, “It was perfect. You knew that, though.”
“I didn’t really. I mean, I’ve never taken you on a date,” he muses. “And plenty of the people I’ve dated before weren’t even willing to watch a rom-com with me.”
“Then that’s their problem,” you say. “Anyone who isn’t willing to watch a rom-com with you is just an asshole, and I stand by that.”
Hyunjin smiles sweetly. You’re parked by the curb in front of your house at this point, so it’s slightly more easy to see the silhouette of your friend’s face. “That’s nice of you. I dunno though, I wouldn’t want to label everyone who doesn’t like romcoms as an asshole.”
“That’s not what I mean.” You shift a little bit to face him, pausing before you explain, “I think that if someone is so unwilling to try something that means so much to the person they like, then they don’t really like them.”
“I guess. You know, there’s another reason why I like romcoms so much.”
You don’t speak, waiting for Hyunjin to explain. And he does. “I think romcoms give me hope,” he nods. “Like… they make me think that anything’s possible, not just happy endings. Maybe the person who I don’t even have a chance with secretly likes me back, you know?”
“I can’t really imagine someone who wouldn’t like you if you liked them, but I think I get it,” you smile.
“At least you try. See you at school next week?”
“Come on, we both know that Binnie’s dragging all of us out to beat Chan’s ass at bowling,” you sigh, taking it as a sign to open your car door.
Before you make it completely outside, though, Hyunjin’s hand rests on your wrist. “Y/N, thanks for tonight.”
“Anytime,” you respond breathlessly, closing the door a little louder than you probably should.
You do mean it.
“Remind me again why we have to go prom outfit shopping together?”
Hyunjin pouts, peering in the window of yet another shop. His arm rests gently on your shoulder despite the way you jokingly pushed it off at the beginning of the day, but you really don’t mind. “Isn’t it cute to have matching prom outfits? We should be color-coordinated in some way.”
“I mean, sure… but isn’t online shopping just easier?” you ask, raising your eyebrow. “It’s the 21st century, Jin.”
“You’re so unromantic,” he groans, and finally pushes the door open to a thrift store to lead you inside.
You wrinkle your nose at the heavy smell of perfume that hits you as soon as you step inside. “And you watch too many movies. You’ve known me for almost four years, you aren’t going to have some magical moment where you realize you like me just because I put on a sparkly outfit of some kind.”
“Who knows? Maybe you’ll suddenly think that you love me when you see me in a tux,” Hyunjin grins.
You don’t respond to that, and he doesn’t push it, taking it as just another joke of his. Of course he doesn’t know about freshman year, and he definitely doesn’t know about how you still aren’t sure if that crush ever subsided. He shouldn’t know.
He’s too picky to pick something at the first store, you know, so you just follow him around as he flicks through things that are either too fitted or too loose, too patterned or too plain.
It takes three stores for him to finally something that he likes, and he appears from the dressing room with a gorgeous grin on his face. “What do you think?”
“It’s… good. I mean, you look good,” you clarify. Of course Hyunjin looks perfect in anything, but the dark navy jacket over the patterned button-down he was already wearing just seem like they were a combo meant for him.
He isn’t satisfied with your response, towering over you as you slump lower in the chair. “Just good?”
“Hot. Stunning, beautiful, sexy-- is that what you want to hear?” you respond sarcastically.
“That’s exactly it!”
Rolling your eyes, you pick up your things from the chair and say, “Then we’re done? Are you picking this one?”
“Yeah, but what about you?” Hyunjin asks. “Do you already have something, or are we going to get something? I’m still waiting for my kdrama moment, you know.”
You definitely don’t have something at home, but you don’t think you could bear being on the receiving end of the drama moment that your best friend so desperately wants. Something about having him suggest something for you to wear, reacting as dramatically as you know he will, just won’t allow your old feelings for him to sit still.
“I’m good. Let’s check out, and get some ice cream?” you offer to placate him.
Hyunjin grins and offers his arm to you again, practically skipping to the checkout. “Sounds perfect to me.”
“Y/N, what the hell do I wear on a date?”
“How should I know?” You sound listless, flicking through one of the mangas that one of Changbin’s friends left as his house.
“You literally went on a date with your freshman year crush last week and then picked a prom outfit with him,” your friend scowls, tossing a shirt at your face. It’s clean, thankfully, but you still chuck it back at him.
“In my defense, I forgot that it was a date,” you respond, “and shut up about the ‘freshman year crush’ thing. I never would’ve told you if I knew you would use it against me like this.”
Changbin throws yet another piece of clothing in your direction, narrowly missing your face, and you raise a pillow to threaten him with. “You got me into this mess with Felix in the first place, so I think it’s even.”
“It’s not a mess if it’s what you asked me to do,” you complain, “and besides, you wouldn’t stop talking about this date for the past week despite it literally just being something we do together all the time.”
“I like Felix, I don’t like you.”
“Then I’m leaving you to agonize over your collection of colorful track pants on your own,” you warn, and he subsequently shuts up. “There we go. Don’t wear one of those, by the way, even though Felix wouldn’t say a single thing about it.”
“How was the date, by the way? And the three-year-old feelings?” Changbin asks as he continues to dig in his closet.
You hesitate. “It was… nice? Hyunjin knows way too much about Julia Stiles, but he was super enthusiastic and the movie was pretty good. He got the good snacks, too.”
“You know that’s not what I meant,” he sighs.
“Then what did you mean, Mr. ‘I Love Lee Felix With My Whole Tiny Brain’?” you challenge.
Changbin doesn’t take the bait, unfortunately. “Jeongin told me about the whole plot you and Hyunjin have going on. Are you really dumb enough to think that you can get him to love you without falling for him again, and then leave him after it?”
There’s no way to respond to his question without making a complete fool out of yourself, and so, you simply don’t. Apparently in one of his more coherent moods, Changbin continues on, “I’d say that you watched too many movies, but I’ve seen you avoid Hyunjin’s movie nights. What the hell is going on with you?”
“I mean, have you seen the way he looks when he wants something?” you answer unintentionally. “Obviously you weren’t with us at the at the boba shop, but I’m serious. I couldn’t say no to him, especially when he’s heartbroken.”
“What does he look like?” Changbin asks.
You sigh, “He… his eyes get kind of shiny, almost like he’se about to cry but not really like that. And I don’t really know, he just looks like he’d be sad if you said no but wouldn’t talk about it, and that’s the part that makes you want to say ‘yes’.”
“It sounds to me like your three-year-long crush is still here, then,” your friend replies. “Because I have never felt that way about Hyunjin before, but I know what expression you’re talking about.”
Staring at him like he’s grown two heads, you realize that he’s wearing a jean jacket that shouldn’t have taken so much time to pick out. “That’s a stupid conclusion.”
Changbin shrugs and picks his phone up on his way out. “You can think about it as stupid if you want, but I’m usually not wrong about this. I’m going now, do you want a ride or something? You can stay here as long as you want, though.”
“I’ll walk home, it’s still noon,” you answer. You need to think, anyway.
He walks to the kitchen for a drink of water, he claims, but he picks up his phone on the way there, presumably to talk to Felix like the lovey-dovey fool he is. You wrinkle your noise and wander in the hallway, fully intending to bully Changbin about his crush as long as possible.
But his low voice, echoing from the kitchen, definitely doesn’t sound like flirting. When Changbin strides out, on a mission, it’s obvious that something is wrong. “We have to go,” he says. “Jeongin and Hyunjin got in an accident.”
Fear bubbles in your throat, and you yank the front door open harder than you could’ve thought possible. “What? How? When? Is it just the two of them? Are they okay?”
“Minho says that he doesn’t know yet, he’s driving there too. They aren’t calling the police, they’re apparently fine enough to get us,” Changbin says as he backs out of the driveway. “But we better get there as soon as we can.”
“Then drive,” you exhale sharply, slamming your seatbelt on as if it’ll stop your heart from beating out of your chest.
You leap out of the passenger’s side before the car even stops moving, finding Minho and Chan’s cars both parked at the side of the road behind the silver one that you remember to be Jeongin’s parents’. There’s a huddle of people there, Seungmin and Jisung parting so that you can make your way to the center.
To your relief, both your friends are okay; Hyunjin’s sitting on the trunk of the car, massaging his legs, and Jeongin’s definitely wincing a bit too much when he moves his neck. The car is dented, but not to the point of no repair.
Still, anger clouds your vision.
“What the hell’s wrong with the both of you?” you almost shout. “And what the fuck happened?”
Hyunjin starts, “Y/N, calm down. I was trying to teach Jeongin to drive, and we went a little off course--”
“Teaching him to drive, on the damn highway?” you question furiously. “You barely got your license three months ago, I get that you’re a good driver, but you aren’t a good enough driver for this! Whose idea was this?”
Jeongin timidly raises a hand, but Felix stops you from saying anything more. “Let’s all calm down, okay? Y/N, our friends are fine,” he says, low voice barely audible over the wind whipping around. “Everyone’s alive, which is the most important part here, and we can fix the car, which isn’t all that important. Let’s just focus on getting someone here to help, okay?”
“I’ve called my uncle to come and tow the car, we’re just going to get Hyunjin and Jeongin to the hospital, okay?” Seungmin reassures you. “Changbin’s car is too small, and you’re the better driver, so you and Hyunjin take it. Jeongin will come in Minho’s car with me, and we’ll meet you there.”
You nod stiffly and get into the driver’s seat first, pretending like you don’t notice how Chan pulls Hyunjin back to talk with him.
You shouldn’t have gotten angry; it doesn’t make sense to be angry at all. You should’ve been scared, worried, anything but angry, and so, you can only try to calm your breathing by the time Hyunjin sits next to you and Chan’s car sets off.
“Why are you so mad?” he asks quietly.
It’s the wrong thing to say; you turn your head to him, incredulous. “Why am I mad? You could have died, both of you could have died!”
“And? How many things have we all done together that could’ve ended with us in a ditch?” Hyunjin raises an eyebrow. “Hell, you were the one who decided that it would be fun to jump from the roof into Seungmin’s pool last summer, what’s changed? I get it, it was stupid, but you’ve never been so mad about something like this before.”
You exhale, tapping your fingers on Changbin’s steering wheel as you follow your friends’ cars. “To be honest, I don’t know.”
“Okay.”
It’s completely silent after that, at least until you reach the emergency room.
Jeongin and Hyunjin are fine, thankfully; the youngest has twisted a muscle in his neck, but it’s nothing that can’t heal on its own, and Hyunjin’s knees are merely bruised. Jisung’s the one who tells you, the older two of your friend group apparently dealing with the parents of the injured.
“Are you okay, Y/N?” he asks, patting your arm. “You reacted a little… adversely earlier. Did you and Hyunjin have a fight?”
“Why is it always about me and Hyunjin?” you ask with narrowed eyes. “Can’t I be mad because they almost got themselves killed?”
Jisung raises an eyebrow. “You never get mad when we almost get ourselves killed, that’s Chan’s job. And you were basically yelling straight at Hyunjin, I’ve never seen the guy so scared.”
You exhale and sit back in the creaky hospital chair. You wish you could tell Jisung if there was something wrong, but you honestly don’t know what it is. “I don’t know. Do you think there’s something wrong with me?”
“You tell me, dude,” Jisung chuckles. “I think you should think about it. I mean, there’s barely two weeks until prom now, you barely have time to back out anymore.”
“Why would I back out?” you stare at him.
He pushes you to stand, and only says, “Think about it yourself. Okay?”
You don’t tap out, but only because you don’t get Hyunjin alone enough to do so.
After your little yelling fest at him, he obviously doesn’t want to just talk to you, despite how you publicly apologize to both him and Jeongin. You don’t sit together during movie night, you sit at opposite corners of your study table in the library.
Until Felix’s parents invite all of you over to take prom pictures, all you get is a stilted silence.
“You look nice,” he mumbles when the two of you get ushered together in a pair. Except for Felix and Changbin, all the others are by themselves, and you wonder why Hyunjin was so hellbent to get himself a prom date when almost everyone else didn’t bother.
He himself looks absolutely perfect, his hair styled to perfection and a slight pink glittering on his lips. The suit that you picked out together is paired with a patterned shirt that you’ve never seen before, and it perfectly matches your own hastily-purchased outfit. Hyunjin offers a flower to you, color-coordinated, and you hold it in one hand with the other on his arm. “Thanks. You too.”
“Okay, smile, everyone!” Felix’s mom grins behind the camera. “Couples, stand closer together a little bit!”
With a (rather convenient) nudge from Minho, Hyunjin’s hand slips onto your waist, and heat rises to the tops of your ears. Felix’s mother is pleased, though, and the photos carry on with the occasional hoots of laughter when Jisung smacks a kiss onto Seungmin’s cheek and gets clocked as a result.
Conversation is never stilted when you’re with your friends, so despite the silence between Hyunjin and you, there’s no awkwardness during the ride there. Silence only falls when it’s just the two of you standing together in the corner of the venue, all the others off to dance or raid the buffet table.
You decide to speak first. “Are you pissed at me for yelling at you? Because I said I was sorry, and I am.”
“I’m not pissed at you,” Hyunjin shakes his head.
“Well, you’re sure acting like it,” you snap. With a sigh, you end up apologizing again, “Sorry. I just… I know that the plot was mostly a joke, just to take your mind off of the heartbreak and stuff. I kind of messed it up.”
“You messed it up?” He stares at you.
“Well, yeah… I yelled at you, didn’t I?”
Hyunjin sighs, almost like he expected a different answer. “No, that didn’t mess anything up. I mean, I got what I wanted, anyway.”
“And what was that?”
“I fell in love with you.”
It’s your turn to watch him, completely shellshocked. The sparkling, multicolored lights of the venue bounce off him like an otherworldly glow, and his eyes sparkle even though he’s avoiding your gaze. Maybe all the people falling at his feet, you included, are onto something. “I mean, it’s not exactly what I wanted,” he blabbers. “I wanted to be in love without it hurting, and obviously that failed, but… I should’ve known that it wouldn’t even take three weeks for me to love you.”
“Hyunjin.”
Your best friend still doesn’t look up, so you just ask softly, “Why does it hurt?”
“You don’t like me back, of course it hurts,” Hyunjin frowns.
“Who said I didn’t like you back?”
He’s quiet, eyes flicking up to you like he thinks it’s Jisung pranking him or something. “Do you mean it?”
“We’re stupid, Hyunjin,” you laugh. “We’re so, so stupid. I had a crush on you since we met, for two whole-ass years.”
“Well, I liked you for almost four, so I think I beat you there,” he says. But there’s a relieved smile on his face, his eyes curving prettily as he reaches for your hand. “Then… do you want to dance?”
“No romcom shenanigans,” you warn, but you allow yourself to be tugged out to the dance floor next to your friends with a smile.
Hyunjin’s grin as you twirl him around under the burning neon lights suddenly makes it seem like everything will just... magically be okay. If you had just been a little more courageous (or a little less stupid), maybe you could’ve seen it earlier.
But good things come with time and patience. And with all the patience you’ve had, waiting for this to happen, the way you finally feel with him makes it all worth it.

He now cooks there full time
When he's not there, he's driving O to school, or poking around the library
Over protective of his sister
They have a dog named Ceasar, a big mutt that gets whiney if he can't sleep in Octavia's room

John Murphy
College freshman
Works part time at Kane's as a waiter
Will steal fries from Octavia's table when she's not paying attention
