"One people, One Origin, and One culture that stands out. Africa our pride, a race of people - warriors thriving through storms.
Our strength knows no bounds, hence it is time we remove the limitations. We are One, we remain our brothers' keeper." ABIA LEVIS MBU LAWSON.

May 25 of every year in Africa is Africa Day. The day is set aside by the African Union (AU) to commemorate the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU). Throughout this week, which is also termed #AfricaWeek, Face2Face Africa will be sharing some iconic speeches by the founding fathers of the Organization of African Unity as a build up to Africa Day. Here’s Emperor Haile Selassie’s speech to the United Nations General Assembly in 1963 that inspired reggae legend Bob Marley to write his hit song “war”. MORE ABOUT THIS The United Federation of African States and the Coming Great Quake Why Africa’s Biggest Enemy Is Disunity Billionaire Entrepreneur Mo Ibrahim Calls For African Unity The Time for Black Unity Is Now “Mr. President, distinguished delegates. Twenty-seven years ago as Emperor of Ethiopia I mounted the rostrum in Geneva Switzerland to address to the league of nations and appeal for relief from the destruction which had been unleashed against my defenceless nation by the fascist invaders. I spoke then both to and for the conscience of the world. My words went unheeded, but history testifies to the accuracy of the warning that I gave in 1936. Today I stand before the world organization which has succeeded to the mantle discarded by its discredited predecessor and in this body is enshrined the principle of collective security which was unsuccessfully invoked at Geneva. Here in this assembly reposes the best, perhaps the last hope for the peaceful survival of mankind. In 1936 I declared that it wasn’t the covenant of the league that was at stake but international morality. Undertakings, I said then, are little worth if the will to keep them is lacking. The charter of the United Nations expresses the noblest aspirations of man. Abjuration of force and the peaceful settlement of disputes between states. The assurance of human rights and fundamental freedoms for all without distinction of race, sex, language, or religion. The safeguarding of international peace and security. More from the Africa week education forum. I was only able to be there less than two hours before I had to head back to the lab, but I wish I had been able to spend more time there. It was incredibly interesting to listen to peoples work in Africa and I was sad to have missed the rest of the afternoon. If anyone is interested in learning more about Africa week, pop over to @africaweekuk where there are loads of interesting photos and videos #africaweek #africaweekuk #important #interestingafternoon #andeducational #lookingforwardtofriday (at UWE Bristol)

The Worldharmony Project
Hello! My name is Allison, and I launched The Worldharmony Project as a social media-based platform that uses our voices and images to connect human lives to the headlines, textbook articles, TV/movie characters and statistics we read, hear and see in our daily lives. Through the telling of our personal stories, I hope together we will help dispel myths and stereotypes, and foster a more enlightened, tolerant and kind global community.
The Worldharmony Project will feature content created by Storytellers who have volunteered to tell their stories, in video format, on their own social media channels or via The Worldharmony Project, in response to audience questions that have been submitted regarding a topic. This blog will place a social context around the topic and provide bios on the Storytellers.
The videos developed with The Worldharmony Project are not theoretical in nature, nor are they mere discussions about why a perspective or practice is moral/immoral or helpful/hurtful. Our focus is the LIVED EXPERIENCE of that issue, and the impact of that lived experience on the Storyteller. A Storyteller’s video can be as creative as the Storyteller is: a group discussion, a poem, a local tour, a song, an immersive experience. Snippets from the videos will be featured across our social media channels to generate interest and discussion.
Who is our audience? Everyone! We especially want those in positions of leadership and power to understand the impact of their decisions. We want youth to learn about tolerance while they are young. We want to help people learn something new about the members of their communities, to help people become part of the solution to the serious problem of intolerance.
Who can become a Storyteller? Maybe you! If you want to become part of an upcoming topic, or suggest a topic you’d like to discuss as a Storyteller, you are welcome to contact me. Diversity is a major key: we want our Storytellers to span the range of ages, races, ethnicities, genders, sizes, locations, etc.
UPCOMING TOPICS
AFRICA: A week featuring Storytellers living in or raised in any of the 54 countries making up this amazing continent. The goal, as with all of our topics, is to answer audience questions to dispel myths and sterotypes regarding Africa and Africans. Hashtag: #AFRICAweek/WHP
THE BATHROOM BILL: Transgendered individuals are being sought to convey the personal impact of the proposed bill limiting transgendered individuals’ use of public bathrooms based, presumably, on the legal classification of their sex at birth. Hashtag: #BathroomBill/WHP
HAIR: Hair, believe it or not, is full of meaning. Our hair can be culturally significant. A style can convey a political message. Hair has caused us to lose jobs and obtain jobs. Good hair, bad hair, long hair, colored hair, fake hair, no hair, man buns, culturally appropriated hairstyles, weaves, wigs, extensions, barbershop/salon culture, the hair industry - got a personal experience to contribute to a week of hair stories? Contact The Worldharmony Project! #HAIRweek/WHP
Do you have a social/cultural topic you’d like to see addressed by Storytellers via The Worldharmony Project, or a question for one of the topics above? Want to become a Storyteller for a specific issue? Just use the contact links to reach me. Eventually, there will be a calendar of upcoming topics so that those interested in becoming a Storyteller can volunteer, and people can submit questions.
I truly believe social media can, and should, be used to raise awareness of social issues! I would love it if you would help spread the word about The Worldharmony Project. Please mention this initiative and the blog in your own social media acccounts. If you know people who might like to contribute to any of the topics above, or to future topics, I’d be grateful if you’d send them this way.
THANK YOU!! 🌏 Allison Diamond, The Worldharmony Project Hashtags: #theworldharmonyproject #WHP

#Repost @unesco ・・・ Between 1999 and 2012, the number of out-of-school children dropped 30% in sub-Saharian Africa. But there are still 30 million who are still denied the right to education.
