Tfw one part of your ship is a jaded pretentious villain who viciously strives for world domination and destruction and the other is a young slightly naive yet incredibly spiteful hero. about the shigaraki brothers childhood development...

It still baffles me to this day how the two brothers managed to integrate themselves into society, or more like a broken yet currently being rebuilt one. Obviously we don't have enough information to make sense of how they did a few things on their own, like feed themselves right after their mother's corpse was flushed away by the rapid rivers, find an area warm enough for them, food for nourishment, moving around just days after they were born. So many questions unanswered and wacky theories.

They're feral children in a ruined concrete jungle filled with people like them yet not. Maybe that's what made it easy for them to slide right on in as adults as if they weren't incoherent beings eating trash all day😭the adults were too busy running, stealing, arguing and fighting for their lives to pay attention to two strange and contaminated kids. AFO and Yoichi had nobody to teach them basic knowledge and skills for their age like the ABC's and how to write, read, and speak.

But then yoichi is shown being able to speak and understand certain actions first in regards to afo in their early days. Its Even hinted that yoichi learned to speak first in their facial expressions and certain scenes. Like when afo beat a group of thugs and yoichi crawled out of the shadows in tears, seemingly from not only pain, but empathy as he's probably thinking those men are hurting just as much as he is, and acknowledges by getting afos attention by throwing an empty can at him and telling his brother to stop and that it hurts only for afo to kick him in the face instead of replying back verbally, or when afo approached the group of men, who, when they spotted afo, debated on helping him or just leaving him there. Afo had every chance to make an attempt at speaking to them to ask for help, etc, but didn't and just killed the group right after they turned away from him. He's a non verbal child only running on instinct, actions and survival as it's all he's ever known.

Meanwhile, yoichi is forced to be cooped up somewhere where afo hid him as to not endanger himself. Yoichi is small and weak, the runt of the twins, so there's not a lot of options when it comes to him in battle. The only thing yoichi could do was listen to the beat up radio and pick up the tattered books around him. This is how yoichi was able to teach himself how to read and speak their native language. It wasn't afo who taught him to do all those things as he was out often doing God knows what and never spoke around those times. I'll add more, specifically about AFO'S quirk when I have time but I gotta go yall

"Hidden Infatuation." Feeding the AFOFA fans with A1 stuffs I made today. A bit HC, where AFO is too freaking dense and Yoichi gets a little bit obssessive and greedy on his brother's attention. I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, heh?

Is Shigaraki's "ugly" appearance a product of his quirk, AFO'S neglect or both?

Definitely both.

His cracked itchy skin and the frizzy ends of hair imply to me that the decay quirk had the side effect of removing a lot of moisture and oils from his skin; if not outright causing a mild, but consistent allergic reaction. Unsure how much creams and moisturizing products would have helped in the first place, but I'm not convinced AFO tried much in that regard.

In the few shots we see of his room it's disorganized, cluttered, and dirty, so I'm also willing to believe his hygiene and need for cleanliness wasn't consistent either. I'm not saying he never took care of himself, but more in that flighty, "I'll shower tomorrow", "forgot to brush my teeth for a week", "wait, you're supposed to comb your hair how often?", kinda way. That is definitely on the fault of AFO just not teaching him good habits or routine.

I do think when it came to his vital health like disease or organ health he was actually quite thorough, or as thorough one can be when they have so many buffing quirks that he doesn't remember feeling vulnerable to anything. But cosmetic issues like yellowed teeth and split ends were barely addressed, if at all.

Part of him did want to stick closer to the mold, make him as beautifully delicate as Yoichi had been, but he couldn't associate his pure little brother with a symbol of fear. So he let it twist, let it distort; it wouldn't matter how much of a sight his new vessel would be so long as it would submit.

I haven't really thought about nailing down an exact difference. I like the easy math of a five year difference, but tbh I think it's more of a seven or eight year difference if All For One really did raise Yoichi like he claims. Or, well, like he implies when he says that Yoichi is his only family. I wouldn't go any higher than nine, though, just out of personal preference and because I don't think they're actually that far apart. I'm not a fan of anything below four either, because while it's funny for AFO to pull the Eldest Sibling card with that little of a difference, I like to think that he actually did end up raising Yoichi, and for that to be true he'd have to be at an age to at least (mostly) take care of himself. I think six is gonna be the sweet spot for me :3 Six year difference and some change.

His sweet little puppy had been getting loose recently.

Just yesterday he found the door ajar, curtains adrift from the night’s breeze as it chilled the empty spot in their bed. Like a spurned lover waking up to find their partner already dressed and gone, knowingly the other woman. He’d ignored the cloying feeling of disappointment, and rolled over to avert his eyes from the sight. It was cold without him, but he’d left the sheets where they were, preserving the shape from when they were eagerly thrown off to abandon him.

The night sky had been peaceful, no balm to his aching, but a mockery of the turmoil it shrouded in darkness.

It was that night that it became real; he could no longer deny his second place, the very first time he’d ever been deemed as such.
