As someone who has gotten into wrestling via AEW and various Japanese/Indie promotions, watching tonight's RAW live all the way is fascinating because I'm realizing something new about the difference in WWE's structure I hadn't before and suddenly a few things make a lot of sense.
Three different matches tonight have set up matches for the same night via the structure of 'well then why don't we throw down about it right here right now tonight?' trope, including the penultimate-event, where I've come to expect this to be responded to with heel tactics to taunt and cowardly refuse 9 out of 10 times, with very rare exceptions that make it a huge pop.
I was genuinely confused by this. In my experience the Gunther and Dom match, which was a glorified squash match setting up a larger title run sure, but was Excellent? Would be teased or set up one week or on one show, allow a promo or two of buildup, and for people to tune in, and then to happen the next week. There were less than 30 minutes between the challenge and the match, and it was one of the best of the night?
And I'm realizing that this feels like part of the difference between AEW booking and WWE booking, and part of why people are frustrated trying to switch between them? I feel like that match just was squandered a bit, and a slower burn would let the feud for the world championship hold more weight with the audience and the people fighting for it. Meanwhile, I'm realizing that a lot of complaints I've heard about AEW not having any storyline or bad booking is because of this slower burn, often across multiple shows and weeks and additional online content. A single episode of any show will very rarely have a complete storyline set up and knocked down in a three act structure.
I've had some difficulty getting into WWE and their PPVs partly because I feel like the editing and wrestling itself is designed for maximum lack of focus? Like, easily consumed on your phone, tiktok-ible, flash cuts to the point it gave me headaches... And I don't think accessibility is bad, I'm just wondering if this storytelling in single episode sitcom style 'you can pick any up and watch it easily with little ongoing arc not resolved by the end' is part of that.

My dearest friends, hello! I've recently released an update for Trauma Pro Wrestling, the silly little game i've been working on the past few months. Maybe not as big an update one would expect give the time passed between the last one, but as the saying goes: i've been busy. Either way, down below you'll find all the details regarding the update, have fun!
DOWLOAD TRAUMA PRO WRESTLING: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2836630/TRAUMA_Pro_Wrestling/
MAJOR ADDITIONS:
-Introduced the LAST LAUGH match type, in which the winner is the last player to score a pin within the time limit. -Introduced new dialogue scenes with Mascherata, the world heavyweight champion of Trauma Pro.
GAMEPLAY CHANGES:
-Increased the average health bar for all wrestlers. -Fixed a bug where the NPCs in Gauntlet mode could be spawned with higher statistics than intended. -Pins that don't end the match will now reset both players positions. -Edited the top rope collisions so that they wouldn't trigger accidentally when hitting the ropes while on the ground. -Also fixed a bug that wouldn't allow you to jump from the top rope under specific circumstances. -Decreased the chance of stipulation matches to happen on a weekly basis in Career mode. -Dodging and doing backflips now moves you further away from your original position. -Fixed a bug that would deal electric ropes damage for rope breaks when it shouldn't. -Fixed a bug that would sometimes trigger count-outs when it shouldn't.
AESTHETIC CHANGES:
-The timer will be counting down instead of up, so you will always know how many minutes you have left for any given stipulation. -Replaced the old intro with another one. -A few animations have been slightly altered.
QUALITY OF LIFE CHANGES:
-The Info section regarding moves now informs you of the effects of each move. -Reintroduced the camera perspective locked behind the player's back.

i know i beat this dead horse every few weeks or so but i really think sami and neville's nxt feud was so special. sami and kevin obviously blows all other competition out the water as far as wrestling soulmateships for the two of them, but sami and neville did so much in the short time they had on nxt together, and they did it the best possible way which was having both incredible match chemistry AND emotional storytelling.... they had 4 televised singles matches in total and one fatal four way and they were all certified bangers. all developed their relationship in some way and told great self contained stories at the same time. despite the fact that, at no point in any of them, did either sami or neville actually hate each other/have a real heel turn. usually that would portend the 'great athleticism but not a lot of story outside of Which One Is Better' match formula but not these guys, instead it's like the wrestling equivalent of a 100k slow burn. WITH incredible flips and dropkicks.

i will never feel more joy then watching oiled up, sweaty grown men beat the shit out of each other and spout about friendship and betrayal like it's an unholy combination of a shonen anime and a soap opera.

No matter how much I use twitter, I will always love the pro wrestling fanbase here more than any other website because y'all here are always so kind , cheer on everyone, and won't go to war with anyone for liking either WWE or AEW or both or neither as y'all just love pro wrestling .
Not to mention this place was the place where I did join the online wrestling fanbase well over a decade ago on a previous account and even back then, everyone was fun back then too on here ( just a lot more shield stuff since at that time it was I think either a year or a few months after Seth smacked Roman with that chair lmao )
