The Haunted Captain - Aed [backstory]
Name: Aed Species: Anwir’gal (sun people) From: The Plains of Nayirn Age: Unknown Personality: Intelligent, but anxious. Doesn’t talk much, and certainly doesn’t open up easily. Has a sense a humour, but it’s buried very deep - he’s not much of a joker. Traumatized and haunted by the war, but way too proud to ever admit it. History: Aed was born into the tribe called Anwir’gal - the sun people, an elf-like race - to the plains of Nayirn. The tribe was very small and very old, and the plains of Nayirn were very far away from cities and “civilisation”, so they had little contact with anyone except their own race. Aed was the Chief’s one and only son, and expected to take over the Chief’s position once his father would pass. Sadly, both of Aed’s parents were killed in a hunting accident before Aed was old enough to rule, resulting in Aed’s grandfather taking over the position once again. Grandfather Nim raised Aed as his own son and the legal heir, while Aed’s seven cousins - the descendant of Nim’s second son - grew jealous in his shadow. Especially Aúl, the youngest of Aed’s cousins and the same age as Aed, seemed very bitter. Despite his lack of parents and the hatred of his cousins, Aed grew up well. He showed talent in hunting, and even though he wasn’t exceptionally strong, he was fast and had good reflexes. Aed succeeded in his first Great Hunt and was officially Accepted as a part of the tribe - a rite all growing youth had to go through. Aed’s best friend (and his beloved) Ain had also taken part, but had not succeeded at first try. Nevertheless, Aed was living the best time of his life. But then something happened. Anwir’gal were in a way simple people, and they believed that things should always go a certain way. They believed that the first born of the Chief will become a Chief in their own time, and they believed in gods and the Sun, and they believed that nature was full of magic and sometimes that magic would leak through into people. These people they called Soothsayers - they had healing powers, and some visions and premonitions of the future. And the sun people believed that these premonitions would always come true, because they always had. And that’s how Aed’s world came crumbling down. Beb, the Soothsayer of his village, saw in a vision how Aed would die, and through a seance shared this vision with him. Thus, Aed’s fate had been set, and he was marked as “Cursed”. He was to leave his people and find his fate, before his fate would find him. In this case, Aed was to find the battlefield on which he was supposed to die, before the battlefield would find him and wipe out his tribe entirely. So, Aed left, silently and his heart aching. He didn’t leave goodbyes and never told Ain what had happened, or how much he loved her.  Even though time passed on quicker than it does in our world, it still took Aed decades to find his fate. He traveled across the lands and met people. He made some friends too - among them, a young boy called Inarí in the Water tribe, and a kedvár, an ancient bird-like creature, Rajik. Eventually, hearing about the restlessness growing in the East, Aed realized that there was going to be a war... And he also realized that this is what he was going to have to be a part of. So he joined the army, quickly rising up in ranks until he became the Captain, and he led his army into War against the King of Shakat’mir. The War was terrible, and there were great losses on both sides. It seemed like neither Deun’mir or Shakat’mir could win - but there was no way for either side to back down. That is, until one day, Aed learnt that the War was actually a set up - a one man scheme to get his revenge on the world - and that the King was innocent of the crime that was put on him. They had all been led astray. Knowing this, amidst a great battle, Aed saw the King in trouble, and jumped in to save him. And he did - eventually resulting in peace, as the King felt grateful and wanted to stop the War, being grown tired of it himself too. But it was all too late for Aed. He laid on the battlefield, mortally wounded, just like in the premonition. And he was tired, ready to die and be rid of the pain and heart ache... But closing his eyes and drifting away didn’t deliver him to the afterlife, but somewhere else. Aed woke up again, but not anywhere he could recognize. He was in a hospital - in a human hospital. On Earth. He was told that he had been in some sort of accident, found by some woman from a ditch. No ID or wallet. No one knew who he was. He had been in a coma for three days. Hearing this, Aed started to doubt everything and almost lost his mind - until a young man appeared to his bedside, told him he was his friend and said that he believed Aed. This man, Jackson Aubrey Knife, although seeming a bit “off in the head” himself, was enough to convince Aed again that everything was real. Nevertheless, Aed had trouble settling into the new world and adjusting to the thought that in a miraculous way he had survived - but wasn’t with the people he loved. So now he spends almost every hour of his day to find a way back to his old world and his old life... With little hope that it will be possible. Likes: Calm evenings, solitude, libraries, reading. Dislikes: Interruptions, this new world he is in, noise, thunderstorms, electronics (doesn't understand them).
