初めてエアロスミスを聴いた時から、いつかこの日が来るとは思っていましたが…

残念ながらついにエアロスミスがツアーを引退することになりました。

昨年秋にスティーヴン・タイラーが喉を負傷してフェアウェル・ツアーの日程が1年先になり、今秋から再開する予定でしたが、結局スティーヴンの声は治らずツアー引退が決まりました。

僕が初めてエアロスミスを観に行ったのは26年前の1998年でした。

そして最後に見たのが11年前の2013年でした。

もしかしたら今から1年後にもう一度来日公演を観れるかも？と期待していたんですがね…。

しかしまだバンドが解散したわけではありません。

つい先日にジョー・ペリーがエアロスミスで新曲をリリースする可能性について語っていました。

それならもしかしたら長らくバンドから離れていたジョーイ・クレイマーもレコーディングに参加できるかもしれません。

ツアー引退しても、せめて12年振りに新作をリリースしてくれたらいいんですがね。

Col Robert “Grey” Sowers was the first pilot selected to fly the SR-71 Blackbird. He also became the first instructor pilot. Grey’s first Reconnaissance Systems Officer (RSO) was Richard “Butch” Sheffield, my father. They were both nicknamed after their hair. Grey’s nickname name was because his hair turned grey at an early age. Butch’s Nickname was from his butch haircut. Sheffield in fact had to stop his hair from becoming so messy from being in a helmet for hours after he had been told that he needed to look more presentable during the required post-flight briefing.

Linda has a personal relationship with the SR-71 because her father Butch Sheffield flew the Blackbird from test flight in 1965 until 1973. Butch’s Granddaughter’s Lisa Burroughs and Susan Miller are graphic designers. They designed most of the merchandise that is for sale on Threadless. A percentage of the profits go to Flight Test Museum at Edwards Air Force Base. This nonprofit charity is personal to the Sheffield family because they are raising money to house SR-71, #955. This was the first Blackbird that Butch Sheffield flew on Oct. 4, 1965.

According to the website SR-71 Blackbirds that lists all Personnel Who Flew the Blackbirds, Sowers is listed as number 115 and Sheffield is numbered 116. They were both flying the B-58 at Carswell AFB, TX, when they were interviewed for the SR-71 program in 1964. At Carswell Grey was awarded the prestigious Bendix Trophy plus the Mackay Trophy. This trophy is awarded for the most meritorious flight of the year. These records were from Los Angeles to New York (2:00:58 seconds) and return (2:15:50 seconds).

On Jan. 11, 1968 while flying SR-71B #957 at 80,000 feet and over 2,000 mph, a total system failure occurred which resulted in a double engine failure due to fuel starvation. Grey successfully maneuvered the plane to an isolated area near Beale AFB, Ca, where it crashed after he and the student pilot (David Fruehauf) safely ejected.

Col Charles “Pete” Collins Sr was on the base at the time of the crash and led the rescue of the two men that were aboard the SR-71.

But there’s more to this story.

Fruehauf had a heated argument with Sowers as the doomed SR-71B was dropping rapidly to the ground: the argument was about who should eject first! Fruehauf the student consistent, that Sowers should because he had the backseat!

Sowers was the mission commander and the more senior officer, and he declared that Dave exited the plane first they continued to argue until Fruehauf finally complied and ejected just in time. At 3,000 feet and some 8 miles from Beale AFB, Fruehauf complied with Sowers’ order and ejected. An instant later, Sowers followed his student into the sky via his Lockheed SR-1 ejection seat. He landed on the ground, removed his helmet and survival kit and found Sowers already on the ground, smoking a cigarette.

After his Air Force retirement, Sowers became a Commercial pilot.

In a telephone interview with my childhood friend Pete Collins Jr, he told me Gray’s first job after retirement was becoming a private pilot for Rock band Aerosmith.

Gray was a pilot who didn’t like to take chances with people’s lives so when Aerosmith demanded that he landed their plane in horrible weather conditions in New York, he refused to do so making Aerosmith members was mad!

That job didn’t work out.

Charley Pride

So, he flew for singer Cher and husband Gregg Allman. His next job was flying for a country western superstar, Charley Pride.

Grey saved Charley Pride and his traveling band’s lives while flying them on tour.

In 1980 While flying Pride and his band in a Fairchild F-27 [a version of the Fokker F27 Friendship twin-engined, turboprop, passenger aircraft manufactured under license by Fairchild Hiller in the US] a midair collision occurred and Grey Sowers had to land the aircraft with an engine out and after experiencing a flight control failure.

“Country singer Charley Pride and his traveling band narrowly escaped death when a small Cessna clipped their aircraft and crashed, killing two people, (the 19-year-old pilot of the plane that hit them was one of the deaths) authorities said. “It scared the hell out of us,” said Bobbi Smith, Pride’s road manager and a passenger on the plane. Pride and members of his entourage were uninjured, in their Fairchild 27, piloted by Bob Sowers.”

So, when Grey wanted to retire and spend more time with his wife Susie, Charley told him to bring her with him on tour: he wanted to keep Grey!

Pete Jr told me that he was thrilled to be invited along with his family to a Charley Pride country western concert. His father SR-71 Pilot Charles “Pete” Collins Sr had been taught how to fly by Gray at the Air Force pilot school in Waco, Texas. They remained close friends for the rest of their lives. Gray passed away on Dec 1 2018 at the age of 92.

JJ - Drums

but she loves playing with the melody and adding a harmony on something that you wouldn't expect

this girl has perfect pitch so harmonizing takes about 3% effort from her

if a song is too low for her or too high for john b, she transposes everything (perfect pitch and all)

she will. not. touch. an electric guitar with a 10-foot pole. 

don't ask, i have no explanation for that one

on the occasion a song needs keys, she's the go-to

music genres: she's a retired theatre kid so she listens to just about everything under the sun except country

RIP Rockin' and Roastin' Coffee

Sad news this past week that Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer announced he'd be shutting down his organic coffee Rockin' & Roastin'. A coffee fanatic, Kramer didn't just put his name on a coffee brand, he was actually hands on with the entire operation.

He launched the coffee in the early 2010s. I went to an in-store he did at a supermarket in 2013 where he signed my coffee. The Boston Globe's coverage of that in-store featured a pic with me in the line too. For a short time he actually had some Rockin' & Roastin' Cafes and I went to the one in North Attleboro, MA on my birthday in 2017. In addition to the coffee and food, they had a ton of Aerosmith memorabilia in the cafe too. I was surprised to see it closed a few months later. In 2018, he stopped by the cafeteria at my work to do a signing because they carried his coffee.

There were a number of reasons he listed in his announcement on his website and social media for this decision. I actually did like the coffee and it's too bad that even with a famous name behind it, the brand couldn't compete in the age of Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks and Keurig. Just a few months ago Aerosmith announced they were retiring from touring. I certainly hope that Kramer and Aerosmith might record some new music sometime soon.

Dave Thompson: I Hate New Music: The Classic Rock Manifesto (2008)

When I saw this book on a shelf at Barnes & Noble about a decade ago I saw myself ...

A middle-aged rock soldier who had given all he had to the object of his obsession, who had persisted in exploring new music long after most of his peers, but who was finally ready to "retire" from the frontlines and own up to his burgeoning curmudgeonry.

I hate new music!

In his Classic Rock Manifesto author Dave Thompson owns up to the very same epiphany, ranting and raving (albeit usually with tongue planted firmly in cheek) in a series of cynical/comical essays covering legends like Zeppelin, Sabbath, Queen, Clapton, U2, Pink Floyd, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Steely Dan, The Beatles, The Who, The Stones, The Boss, and, of course, AC/DC.

If the title hadn't done the trick already, that bronze cover art adorned those unmistakable For Those About to Rock cannons would have compelled me to grab a copy.

While doing so, Thompson also takes aim at younger pretenders to classic rock's throne, from the White Stripes and Black Keys to the Foo Fighters and Kings of Leon, but he's not simply trying to convince us that music was better in the '60s, '70s, and even the early '80s.

No, Thompson's larger thesis is that it's both natural and permissible for every generation to believe that "their music is the best."

And he goes on to encourage us to keep spinning those old favorites AND exploring the wonderful music we may have missed the first time around, rather than stressing about listening to the newest bands and their oft-recycled efforts.

So, whatever generation you belong to, scream with me at every other generation: "YOUR MUSIC SUCKS!"

BUTTTT I STILL HAVE MY LORE!! She and Akira had met before the events of DiU, his love for music helping pull her out of a dark time in her life, and they became very close, inevitably becoming a couple. The power of love and hair metal baby Kick ass guitar riff

However, the gang doesn't get to meet her until after Kira is taken care of, like right after Akira gets out of prison lmao. She learns about his arrest and pulls into Morioh pissed off ready to chew him out about it. But she ends up meeting Koichi and the rest, and befriending then helps her calm down!! Because she's the oldest, she gets to be the mom of the group. Akira doesn't really wanna be the dad, but hey he doesn't make the rules.

Flea is the bass to Akira's front guitar. And of course she's a Stand user!! Her Stand's name is ⟨⟨Aeroplane⟩⟩ (he helped her pick it out) and tbqh it looks pretty similar to Aerosmith which, that's a whole other can of worms, featuring Koichi keeping in touch with the Bucci gang after he comes back from Italy. Flea gets upset that Narancia "copied her" despite literally never seeing each other before, and tries to bully him into changing his Stand's name. I have been thinking about redesigning Aeroplane, maybe making it a humanoid wearing a bomber jacket. Hell yeah.

I used to use her as a S/i, back when I was Akira's age, but now she's been retired to my baby sister. Teehee. She's definitely not my most exciting JoJo oc but I love her dearly<3

Thinking about Haley in Phoenix's Heirs (and even the future of her main canon stories) and her popularity as a rockstar. I have thoughts I don't know will ever make it into the story, but (inspired by some theme park attractions, general headcanons and stuff)

When Aerosmith was retired from Rock'n Roller Coaster at DHS, Haley was the replacement. At least one of the songs she recorded for the attraction was a tribute medley to the previous band, who had been one of her favorites growing up. Rock'n Roller Coaster is as a result one of Hadley and Blaise's favorite attractions at Walt Disney World, and not just because they get immediate front-of-the-line privileges for it.

It was a surprise when Universal contacted Haley to ask if she wanted to be a part of their yearly Halloween Horror Nights event. She happily agreed (she loved a good scare just as much as family-friendly fun) and recorded a brand new song for the new house which would be based off of it; telling a story of a talented musician who made a deal for fame with some powerful entity, in return for a thousand human souls offered in sacrifice. This was the plot of the haunted house, claiming that Haley was throwing a "charity concert" but it was actually a ploy to lure in souls to be sacrificed, and so the guests had to "escape" various creatures and even "Haley" herself trying to capture them and kill them. (Funnily enough this entity may or may not have been implied to be Hades)

(Haley had to train about twenty actresses on how to portray her in this haunted house. It was fun, and Hadley helped)

Haley has no problem shouting at the paparazzi and is very protective of her family

She has a PR manager of course, and they get along well, but there are days when she stresses him out a lot. He takes frequent vacations (which Haley encourages). Haley doesn't care to be online much herself or have social media accounts, though she's very vocal about this in interviews.

Politics is tricky for her. She thinks her music speaks for itself, especially when it comes to rebelling against authority, but of course she also has the problem where the wrong people (fascists, idiots, that lot) think her music is an anthem against "government tyranny" (read: social programs, etc.) And she's never one to mince her words to tell those people that they're deeply wrong

She is, however, vocal about telling people to participate in government at all levels - local, state, government. That's what it's there for.

She has argued with her agent, Janes, to take her "world tour" to more than just the usual "USAmerica and maybe a few European cities" route that so many world tours end up being. So far she's succeeded in taking her show to Rio de Janeiro and Tortola. She's still arguing for more and wearing him down with sheer insistence.

For a short while her record label did try "pairing" her with a male colleague, a fellow rockstar stage-named Octavian Roksolana. They appeared at concerts together, and interviews, and Haley got the feeling that the label was trying to pass them off as a 'couple'. Octavian, however, wasn't into romance, and Haley wasn't into him, so it went nowhere, and the label gave up after a couple of months. She sharply warned them not to try it again.

That being said, Haley and Octavian are still friends and like to send postcards if their careers take them anywhere interesting. He got to go to Athens for a concert and she was jealous.
