Ewa knew marrying Carlos was wrong. Their lifestyles were just too different and with Carlos constantly distancing himself whenever he pleases, Ewa knew it wouldn't last. So as time went by they both started distancing themselves from one another, Carlos would spend most of his time in his office doing "important business, my love. I hope you understand".

Ewa on the other hand would mostly roam around her big, beautiful, fairy like garden. Sometimes he'd also catch her in their home cinema watching movies on her own. Of course he'd feel bad, so caught up in work and missing his wife, yet still prioritizing his job. Only really seeing her during dinner, rarely breakfast or lunch, these being his usual working and meeting hours. Sometimes catching a sight of her when he’s on his office’s balcony or walking from A to B.

She knew he watches her, she can feel his heavy eyes on her while she's grooming her beloved rose bushes or re-watching her favourtie movies or when she's on the phone with her best friend Aemane. She does her best to ignore his stare, to not react. He hates it. He hates that she won't run into his arms anymore whenever he'd leave his office. He hates that she barely tells him about her day or her interests. Does she still love nightly walks through her garden? Does she still enjoy stargazing? Is Aemane still her best friend? He doesn't know, and he blames her. He shouldn't have to ask her about it. She should just tell him about her interests the second they change. How else would he know how to keep her happy?

"Fuck her" he thought as he slowly approches his hook-ups house.

But what did he think? That she won't find out? That the stupid, little hook-up won't brag about it all? That she wouldn't get mad? That she'll think she deserves it since he keeps distancing himself?

"He must think I'm the dumbest woman alive."

That's how they ended up at their dinner table, all dressed up, right after a dinner party of Carlos'. Ewa sat down across from him, watching their servants bring out a special dessert Ewa spent hours working on.

"Looks delicious, my love." He comments looking Ewa in the eyes, hearts in his own. Is making him dessert really all it takes...?

"I hope it tastes good, I haven't had the chance to try it....my love" She takes her glass of wine, raising it to a silent toast. He copies her actions before diving in. Ewa watches from afar, sipping on her glass of red, while he dives into his food. Soon he starts coughing. Ewa can't hep herself but grin and ask "Everything alright, my love?" It comes out in the most innocent tone she can manage. He just nods and reaches for his own glass. "All good, love" He gives her a small smile before drinking up. She just nods, setting down her beverage. She slowly slides out of her chair and walks over to him.

"love..." she shrugs "Did you...did you call her that as well or is that reserved for me?" He freezes, not being able to stop coughing.

"What? Did you think I won't find out?" She can't help the laugh that escapes her lips. "Oh, my love, you're hilarious" She puts her hand on his shoulder. He slowly reaches for his gun, but failes miserably due to his aggressive coughs. Ewa lets out a series of "tsk"'s walking over to the gun and picking it up. "Such a shame, my love." She examines the gun quickly before placing it between his eyebrows. His face turns in fear. "Oh calm down, I won't do it. That'd be such a waste of the good poison I grew. This-" She shakes the gun a bit, to signalize what she’s talking about "-Is purely for the looks and aesthetic"

I noticed, in Dragon Age: Origins' epilogue cards, if the Warden is a male Cousland and marries Anora, it is stated he is Prince-Consort.

Which makes sense; if Anora agrees to marry Alistair, who is technically the rightful heir, she makes a point that the marriage will be between equals so that she keeps power in the open, rather than be like a secretary or the real power behind the king like she was with Cailan. She is still the queen, but it seems like the arrangement with Alistair makes them co-monarchs rather than monarch&consort, like she was with Cailan.

If she marries Cousland, she is the monarch and thus she doesn't want to risk her husband having equal footing, and thus he won't be king like she was Cailan's queen. She is the monarch, he is the consort.

I played a female Cousland who married King Alistair, and noticed that the epilogue card said she was entitled Princess-Consort upon marrying him half a year later, rather than queen. Since Awakening has people, Alistair included, call her queen, and she is referred to as a queen afterwards, I thought it weird, but I like it, for reasons underneath.

In Ferelden, marriage gives people a legitimate claim to the spouse's family's inheritance. Sure, it is not as strong as a direct descendant, but Loghain could claim the throne because his daughter married the last king, and his strongest opponents for the throne are Aeman and Teagan Guerrin, because their sister married the king before him again. All around, the late king's bastard in theory has the strongest claim, but since his bloodline cannot be proven, his chances are equal to the in-laws.

Since a civil war broke because of this, and Loghain got to power due to his daughter being queen, I can absolutely imagine that Cousland is not made queen, at least not yet. Alistair must secure his position as well as possible, have a presence as THE power on the throne, to be a stabilizing power while the country rebuilds. Nobody must suspect that the Cousland family are being ambitious like the Mac Tirs, especially when the civil war is still fresh in people's memories. So on official papers, Cousland is married to Alistair, yes, but he is the King and she the Princess-Consort, one step below him, and thus her brother and any other distant members of their family cannot have a legitimate claim to the throne. At least, that is how I guess it could be. Since ancient Fereldan cultures had concepts of concubines, or side consorts, who are one step below the actual consort, I thought it made sense.

That doesn't mean nobody calls her queen, though. The distinction between queen and princess-consort is rarely made by the public, so the common people will still call her queen. She can still probably make decisions, some rulings and so on; the title is more to not give power to the Cousland as a family, rather than not allowing the Hero of Ferelden to (help) rule alongside Alistair. By DA2 Act 3, I imagine female Cousland has officially been entitled queen, since six-seven years would be enough to establish Alistair as the Theirin king and so on.

Ignoring the fact that the title of King is automatically of higher authority than Queen in real life, I can imagine that is also why a male Cousland remains Prince-Consort and never elevated to King/King-Consort; unlike Alistair, Anora wants the power, she wants it secured to herself first and foremost, and even after all these years where she does like or even love her husband, she will not give him the title that puts him at equal power footing and where his family could have a claim to the throne when she dies.

1 And king David and the captains of the host appointed to their services the sons of Asaph, and of Aeman, and of Idithun, prophesiers with harps, and lutes, and cymbals: and their number was according to their polls serving in their ministrations. 2 The sons of Asaph; Sacchur, Joseph, and Nathanias, and Erael: the sons of Asaph were next the king. 3 To Idithun were reckoned the sons of Idithun, Godolias, and Suri, and Iseas, and Asabias, and Matthathias, six after their father Idithun, sounding loudly on the harp thanksgiving and praise to the Lord. 4 To Aeman were reckoned the sons of Aeman, Bukias, and Matthanias, and Oziel, and Subael, and Jerimoth, and Ananias, and Anan, and Heliatha, and Godollathi, and Rometthiezer, and Jesbasaca, and Mallithi, and Otheri, and Meazoth. 5 All these were the sons of Aeman the king's chief player in the praises of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Aeman fourteen sons, and three daughters. 6 All these sang hymns with their father in the house of God, with cymbals, and lutes, and harps, for the service of the house of God, near the king, and Asaph, and Idithun, and Aeman. 7 And the number of them after their brethren, those instructed to sing to God, every one that understood singing was two hundred and eighty-eight.

8 And they also cast lots for the daily courses, for the great and the small of them, of the perfect ones and the learners.
