Cylas was born in Tevinter to slave parents, his mother escaped with him and his older brother when he was 2 years old, fleeing to Denerim's alienage. His magic manifested when he was 7, though his family was able to hide it until he was 8 and he was exposed. He didn't have a great time in the Circle, but he was a diligent student, making his own T supplement, and had a Plan for when he was a full fledged Mage. Joining the Wardens was bittersweet for him, but he was much happier with the freedom.

He had a sister, Leila, who I sometimes switch his place with in my head with a similar story. They are cousins of Tab and Auri.

I have other Inquisitors but ah.... I don't really care about them lol

I don't really have set Hawkes, though I like to have default Hawke twins, Gareth and Killian. I play them Blue/Purple. Gareth romances Fenris and Anders, Killian romances Isabela and Merrill. Killian is a trans woman.

I should redo the letters and meetings with the Inquisitor, just as a very strenuous exercise in creativity. Because the levels of He Would Not Say That are just.... Poor Arden. If he's my "canon" Rook (for me all that means is the ones that fit all in one contiguous narrative) that means he gets Samhal. Which means I have to imagine an older, more mature Samhal that might conceivably be helpful in any way whatsoever, other than by being bitter together.

I'm curious, did anyone else imagine their non-f! Lavellan as having a crush on Solas, for any amount of time? If so, how did it go?

My Aedan Trevelyan did have a tiny crush on him early on. Solas is self assured, very kind and reassuring, incredibly smart and, due to his knowledge of the fade, a bit of an authority figure. Aedan really responded to that.

He could tell Solas wasn't interested, so he never intentionally flirted with him. He also thought Solas couldn't tell, which was less true.

I imagine the day Aedan saw Dorian and went "that is the most handsome man I have ever seen in my entire life", it was a bit of a relief for Solas.

Hey guys ! I'm doing anything else beside playing the actual game. But after the hype of veilguard, i wanted to recreate my wardens with the character creation of baldur's gate.

Here's my very first warden ever ; Oranathra Surana. Elf, Mage. Romanced Alistair and let Anora rule. Was okay with the dark ritual. Didn't side with the Architect, let Morrigan leave peacefully through the eluvian. Became the warden commander of Ferelden. Got two children with Alistair ; A boy and a girl named Zathvin and Fiona. Long lost sister of Inquisitor Nesiawen Lavellan. Is a metamorph and a knight enchanter. Left the staff aside for a two handed magical sword. Her mother used to be an ancient guardian of mythal's temple before she met her father.

My son, King Aedan Cousland. Romanced Morrigan, Performed the dark ritual. Is ruling with Anora. Didn't side with the Architect. Left through the eluvian with Morrigan to raise Kieran. Had another son with Anora named ; Bryce. Is a champion and Spirit warrior. Use a shield and a sword.

Elenaril Mahariel. Romanced Zevran, Was okay with the dark ritual. Alistair is ruling alone, but wished Elenarial could have stayed at his side. Somehow. Sided with the architect (i think). Let Morrigan leave through the eluvian peacefully. Is a ranger and a duelist. Became blind from one eye after the betrayal of Ostagar. Often travel with Zevran, whenever if it's for finding a cure for the calling or other chilling and deadly matters. Use dual blades and knifes.

Lucianna Cousland. Romanced Alistair and became Queen with him. Was okay with the dark ritual. Didn't side with the architect. Let Morrigan leave through the eluvian peacefully. Is trying her best to help Alistair commanding and leading his armies, while taking care of her grey wardens. Desperately want children with Alistair but tries to find a cure to the calling first. Is a Berserker and a reaver. Use a Two handed sword gifted by Sten.

And my last addition so far; Mara Tabris. Is romancing Leliana. Anora and Alistair ruling side by side. Was okay with the dark ritual. Siding with the architect. Let Morrigan alone through the eluvian peacefully. Is often leaving the keep to find a cure for the calling so she could fully enjoy her life with Leliana one day. Is a bard and a legionnaire scout. Use a magnificent handcrafted bow and dagger, gifts from her beloved.

OC Height Comparison Chart

@opal-bee​ did this nifty chart (site here) and I wanted to play too.

I just used my Dragon Age characters. Canon love interests are there in grey for comparison, except Annis’ Alistair, who I also accept as being 6 feet, same as Cullen, who is there. 

The site works in metric, but here are their heights in feet and inches, which is how my brain understands height.

Zevran I’ve put at 5′4″, short for an elf but also, to my mind, unusually broad-shouldered.

Aedan Cousland is fucking huge by any reasonable standard, 6′7″ and built like Thor. He throws the whole damn chart off visually.

Annis Amell is 5′2″, but what the chart won’t let me show is that she’s also fat and stacked. She doesn’t get any lighter hiking around and fighting, just stronger.

Jeannie Hawke is slim and lithe, and just over 5′4″

Fenris I didn’t really have a specific height in mind for and I don’t remember what canon says. I just see him as being...average elf dude height? So I put him at 5′6″

Ainsley Trevelyan, the only one here who isn’t in the Little Fox canon, is also 5′6″. She’s built sturdy, not particularly curvy but solid.

Cullen Rutherford I put at 6′, which I think fits well enough with the information we’re provided.

Samhal Lavellan is my smallest guy at not quite 5′3″, small even for an elf. He’s not built as narrow as the base model male elf, with shoulders and, at least initially, some padding over smooth dancer’s muscle. He gets pretty rundown though.

Solas I’ve made tall for an elf but not for a human, and put at 5′9″

“Have you any idea what you’ve done?” If the lack of wrinkles weren’t evidence enough, the cracks in Aedan’s voice gave way to his age now as the shrillness of his words pierced through the serene silence of the night.

“I-I’m sorry,” Cullen replied, shaking his head. “I’m not following.”

Aedan was still pushing against Shielan’s arm as he spoke, digging his heels into the ground for leverage. Leliana’s eyes flitted between him and Shielan, one hand fingering the grip of the dagger at her waist, as if she were considering how and when to intervene. Shielan shot her a fiery glare and Leliana backed away, hands falling to her sides.

“Iris—my sweet, perfect Iris,” Aedan cried. “One of your templars made her Tranquil. She never would’ve hurt a fly, but he wanted a new plaything.”

As Aedan’s voice grew louder, people trickled out from their tents to see the commotion. Shielan scanned the area, keeping a watchful eye on the soldiers in the crowd as she kept the boy at bay.

Cullen lowered his voice and stepped toward the boy. “Aedan, I had no idea about—”

“Bullshit!” Aedan was red-faced and screaming now, tears welling at the corners of his eyes and enraged spittle flying from his lips. “She told me what you said—that mages aren’t people, that the Rite is an act of mercy. Had it been up to you, the whole Circle would’ve been Tranquil!”

Shielan turned her glare to Cullen. “Is that true?”

His eyebrows drew together, and the corners of his mouth pulled themselves into a pleading frown as he spoke to her. “It was at the time, but I—”

“Your Knight-Commander locked them away like dogs, turning them Tranquil even after they passed their Harrowing, while you stood by and watched!” Aedan shouted.

The crowd was growing bigger and coming closer now, with heightened murmurs rippling through it. The people pointed and stared at Cullen as his face crumbled beneath the boy’s words.

“I-I thought she was protecting them,” he said. “I’d no reason to distrust her. I thought—”

“The Circle never protected anyone! That’s why I joined the Mage Underground, to protect my own from scum like Knight-Commander Meredith—from scum like you.”

Tagged by @apostatetabris thank you! This might be a long post because I’ve been busy creating new ocs while I’ve been on the quiet side... I’ve bounced around all over the UK for these voices (give me the chance to give my ocs voices, there’s no way I’m not going straight to starkhaven).

Worldstate 1:

Ysabelle Dryden

I’m going to start with my awkward girl (I swear they are just simple after this). Izzy is a funny one, she doesn’t have a specific voice claim. She travelled a lot growing up, what with her parents being travelling merchants, so her accent is a mix of northern coast of Ferelden but softened by the years spent in Denerim. It shows in the cadence of how she speaks, and the phrases she uses, more so when she’s emotional moments.

So, her accent has a mix of Geordie and Yorkshire in there and I’ve picked out a couple of examples that might help express when I hear in my head for her 😂 Laura Norton (thank you to @magpiesandmabari for the help with finding a good Geordie example! I don’t watch Emmerdale myself but Laura Norton’s accent is a nice demonstration of the cadence of the accent that I love). Demonstrating her Yorkshire side, is the wonderful Jodie Whittaker.

Aedan Cousland

Aedan shares a face and voice claim, Charlie Cox. Despite being from the northern coast of Ferelden, that noble upbringing has stopped him from getting the more interesting local accents. He’s my kinda posh Cousland boy, but I’m sure after a year around Izzy he’ll not be quite so ‘proper’ sounding.

Conall Hawke

Again, his face and voice claim are Eoin Macken (Gawain from Merlin). I couldn’t think of another voice that I preferred for him, and a Dublin accent just suits my charming lad down to the ground.

Freya and Isla Trevelyan

They are brand new so I don’t have face claims yet, but this gave me a chance to think about them in a bit more depth. They were raised by their aunt and uncle (until Isla was sent to the circle) who lived in Starkhaven before taking over the family estate, and still spent a lot of time there. That’s my excuse for giving them Scottish accents and I’m sticking with it!

Freya’s voice claim is Laura Fraser and her baby sister, Isla’s is Karen Gillan.

World State 2:

Luna Amell

Her voice claim is Lily James. She is my extremely posh circle girl. Gotta make sure everyone knows you’ve still got that Amell breeding going on.

Selene Hawke

Her voice claim is Emilia Clarke. She is my sweet and a bit cheeky blue Hawke. Not as posh as her cousin, but it’s not like her mum would have allowed a proper rural Ferelden accent to take root.

Maeve Lavellan

Her voice claim is Orla Brady. BioWare seem to like Irish accents for the dalish, so I ran with it. Maeve is in her 30s and I like how Orla speaks with careful consideration and self assuredness, like she can’t be bullied or rushed, she knows her mind. That feels very Maeve.

I know I'm going with Fenalan first and Khalida second, but I'm curious to see what y'all think of the rest lol. Extensive details and rambling about my new babies are all under the cut if you want to know more—my askbox is also open if you want to discuss anything!

Fenalan ("friend of wolves") Aldwir

Notes:

She is a Dalish elf adopted by Strife's clan as a bairn because Tevinter slavers slaughtered and enslaved her own. She was hidden by her mother's warded/enchanted ring that her father made (they were both highly skilled craftsmen and thus ended up as slaves; Fenalan does not know this and thinks they are dead). She came into her magic while hiding in the ruins of her camp and formed a bond with a pack of wolves who sensed the charm and kept other predators away. After she was found, the wolves howled while looking for her and she responded back perfectly; the keeper thus named her Fenalan and gave her the name Aldwir as a sort of honor to her circumstances (since I translate it loosely as "very lonely and little one"), since they were uncertain which clan at the time suffered the massacre. She chose Elgar'nan's vallaslin as a vow of vengeance to protect those vulnerable, then joined the Veil Jumpers once the anomalies began to crop up in order to help the other elves of Ar'lath'an Forest. Once she ran into trouble and was sent away, she lost her bearings; she's always had a duty to keep her busy and felt somewhat lost. When she met Varric, they became fast friends—she is highly protective of him since he gave her a sense of purpose again, and thus she highly distrusts Solas. She would be lying, however, if she said that she wasn't secretly fascinated by him and the knowledge he might have. She is derisive towards him due to the circumstances, but over time they grow close and she learns to respect him. "Harellan", which starts as a derogatory name of mockery in response to his vehemence, shifts into one of fondness. She is a striking, astute, and curious woman of strong opinions and critical thinking. She is also somewhat temperamental and headstrong, but if she is presented with a new point of view on something she will take the time to consider it. She is straightforward and blunt with a cutting sense of humor; slow to trust, but fiercely loyal once won. (Sound familiar to anyone? No? Okay.)

Notes:

I don't have as much of a backstory for Khalida developed quite yet, but I know her personality pretty well. She feels more connected to the dead of the Necropolis and is more comfortable interacting with them and being in their company than the living. This makes most people disquieted by her, finding her very off-putting and strange, since she's not as familiar with 'conventional' socialization that 'normal' people have. Emmrich is her mentor and is one of the few that truly understands her; she is also very fond of Manfred as a result. She grew up as the black sheep of the Mortalitasi, and while she was perfectly content with her state of affairs during that time, once she broke up the Skeleton War and was sent away, she withdrew into herself severely and drifted aimlessly for a long while before she came across Varric. He has very strong paternal feelings for her since she reminds him a lot of Cole and takes her under his wing. He's used to her unique little oddities (behaviors and ways of speaking especially) and she feels as safe to be open with him as she does with Emmrich. She is curious to a fault, however, inherently trusting of most people because—in her experience—the dead of the Necropolis have little reason to disguise their true personalities. This gets her into quite a bit of trouble, so she has to develop her street smarts quickly while under Varric's tutelage. She is fascinated by Solas and wants to understand him; she would be the most vulnerable to any trickery he may employ, honestly, but she would endear herself to him with her somewhat innocent and incessant questions. He appreciates that she's willing to learn and understand all the pieces of the puzzle before she casts judgment; he finds it easiest to trust her compared to the rest since she has such little capacity for deception with her sincerity and earnesty. She is not naive, however, just significantly optimistic despite all the shit she's been through because she wants to treat others with the kindness she was rarely afforded. She is the most open-hearted, openly caring, and compassionate of all my rooks tbh. Her strong point is her mind; her weakness is her heart since she has so much trouble navigating interpersonal relationships with corporeal people compared to spirits and the like. She just wants to help those around her so bad; because of this she's definitely an acts of service person. My sweet girl, all in all, and why I picked her to be my Lucanis romance—he needs all the TLC he can get, I think, and her being as awkward as he is learning how to love will help.

Notes:

Not as developed as the others. Hot-headed, brash, and quick to anger; he's definitely more of my Solas mirror. He's dedicated to his people and more devout to traditional Dalish beliefs (compared to Fenalan, who just wants to find out the truth regardless of personal feelings); he'd be the type that would have refused Solas when he first came out of uthenara and tried to tell the Dalish the truth. Fenan is intimately familiar with the school of hard knocks; he does not like Solas, does not trust him at all, and is especially angry after seeing him betray Varric (who sees a bit of Fenris in his personality and difficult upbringing in a more aggressive clan near the Tevinter border; he dislikes most humans as a result)—they butt heads almost constantly as a result, but they eventually come to a tentative understanding once Fenan gets a bigger picture of what's actually going on outside of what Solas tells him. Bellara smooths out his rougher edges.

Anaan ("victory") Mercar

At this point my Rook/Inquisitor dynamics start to get a little tropey. These are the warden romance pairings; however, I'm really excited for the shared Qunari/Vashoth interactions possible here. She was abducted during a raid or something in the midst of the Tevinter-Qun war and raised as a slave as more of a prize/exotic prisoner of war put into harsher house labor (think carrying around firewood for the kitchens, decorations/furniture/food prep/etc.) until she developed her magic. Then she was shunned for fear that she might fight back against her owners; she ended up fleeing and joining the Shadow Dragons as a teenager and has worked with them ever since. Quiet and submissive but in the guard dog way. Always watchful; the type to always sit in the corner watching the door of any given room. Sees Varric as a boss more than anything, but they're on very friendly terms. They grow closer throughout the events of Veilguard. She isn't outwardly angry with Solas, as she just considered it her job to stop him, and her lack of aggression helps them to cooperate better than others; they end up on neutral friendly terms one she realizes that he has similar motivations of stopping slavery and helping the oppressed as she does. Davrin has to pursue her, technically, since she tends to keep people at arm's length—she's not cold, per se, but cool and calm and collected. It takes a lot to get an emotional response out of her and she is afraid of being mistreated again. She does end up being besties with Herah, however, and ends up considering her an older sister since they share many similarities. She's very 'look like she could kill you but is actually a cinnamon roll' vibes. Big ol' teddy bear. Gives the best hugs. Will die for anyone who initiates casual physical affection because this girl wants to be loved so badly and just doesn't know how to seek it out. (Also why she would actually die for Assan; he becomes her emotional support griffon.)

Aedan ("little fire") Thorne

Not a lot to say here. Wanted to play a warrior warden like all the combat previews. Really curious to see how Solas will treat a warden!rook differently. Definitely my least developed. He's quiet and gentlemanly but in more of the standoffish way rather than awkward. He's never been attracted to anyone until Neve so she'll definitely have to take the lead once he starts (trying) to show interest in her. She finds it endearing and kind of funny how clueless he is tbh.

Notes:

Nervous, romantic disaster who bonds with Lucanis like glue; gets so shy around Lace that it's painful. Again, not a lot of detail here. Misuin is disconnected from his elvhen heritage (and probably knows Zevran bc I say so) but wants to know more; he's fascinated by the ancient world but only because it's directly impacting Lace in particular—and himself to a lesser degree. Kind of butts heads with Davrin and Bellara as a result, but likens them to siblings nevertheless. Also, side note: Maxwell is the knight in shining armor, fencing, sweep-you-off-your-feet type. Classical noble archetype. Maximum fluff for Josephine.

This is, to be perfectly honest, kind of a crack playthrough. I remembered how hilarious it was seeing a Bull romance with a dwarf with the height difference, then thought of how funny it would be for a dwarf to romance Taash, too, and...well. This happened. Fiesty little disasters of rogue dwarves with nothing better to do than to cause trouble and climb their Qunari lovers like mountains. Antagonistic towards Solas, probably the whole time, for maximum mayhem. Will be a royal pain in the ass to Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain, though, too, so it's not exclusive to Fen'Harel. Just a jackass in general. Very red-Hawke coded. Short fuse and huge temper. Varric sees him as useful but volatile and definitely didn't want him to be the one to confront Solas. Valos is disgustingly saccharine with Taash in private though; lovey-dovey doe eyes, the works. If anyone ever found out he would actually jump off of a cliff head first. Idk, he's just my chaotic little guy. It will probably be a disaster tbh lol—especially once he meets Malika, who is very similar.
