India will celebrates its 73rd Independence Day on Thursday (August 15). It is a day of great significance for the people of India. Independence Day is not only about unfurling the national flag or listening to the Prime Minister’s speech at Red Fort, it is also a time to rememeber those who laid down their lives fighting for the Independence of this country.

1. Chak De! India

The song features Shah Rukh Khan, Sagarika Ghatge, Vidya Malvade, Chitrashi Rawat and Shilpa Shukla among others. Directed by Shimit Amin, the movie is about a former hockey player who tries to redeem himself by training the women’s hockey team.

2. Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon

Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon is a beautiful song that was written in honour of the soldiers who were martyred while fighting for this nation in 1962 Sino-Indian war. The song is composed by C. Ramchandra and sung by Lata Mangeshkar.

3. Saugandh Mujhe Iss Mitti Ki

Saugandh Mujhe Iss Mitti Ki track from PM Narendra Modi that was sung by Sukhwinder Singh and Shashi Suman . The song speaks about the promises made by our PM and him being on the path to fulfill the same with hardship and dedication.

Teri Mitti, speaks about the sacrifices made by soldiers to keep the pride of our nation. The song is sung by B Praak.

Released in 2004, ‘Lakshya’ starred Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta in the lead. Set on backdrop of the 1999 Kargil War,  the film tells the story of an aimless man finding a purpose and becoming an integral part of a fierce battle. The ‘Kandhon Se Milte Hain’ will give you goosebumps.

7. Sandese Aate Hai, Border

‘Sandese Aate Hai’ from JP Dutta’s war epic is the quintessential Independence Day song. Sung by Sonu Nigam and Roop Kumar Rathod, the song, as well as the movie captures the endurance of Army officers.

8. Ae Watan

The song is the latest addition to a long list of Indian patriotic songs. Both the male and female version of the songs are remarkable and heart touching in their own sense.
