Preparing a classroom is difficult especially when you can't get to the vision that you've had in your head. Work in progresses are great though! The room is fully functional. Still can't wait to make it mine.
Wish me luck! Tomorrow I am in charge of the entire K-1 crew at summer programming since the licensed teachers have the whole week off. I am both super excited and nervous. I have roughly 3 hours with the kids, about 2.5 need to cover reading, math, and science. Our normal small groups won't be possible and my supervisors said it was okay to not do those interventions. So I've pulled various lesson plans from my stockpile I've been accumulating. The master plan is that we will talk about the science behind cooking first thing. Including the biggest hit from science club: dissolving sugar in water and tasting it (thanks scishow kids!). We'll also be working on some decodable words and sight words during science. Then we will be doing some yoga and talk about healthy eating and exercise for a mini health lesson. Then some more work with movement and letter sounds and sight words and how to read a recipe. Theeeen doing math with recipes by doubling them. Grande finale will be them working in small groups to create their own healthy no-bake granola bars. Fingers crossed it goes well. And I've got flexibility worked in juuuuusst in case!
Sometimes you have to love when you have playground duty with the Grade 1-3s. Especially when you are a secondary teacher. So ,one day, it was a pretty tough day, I had lost my preps to unexpected subbing and had some challenging classes before lunch. So, I go on duty and play some made up games with the little kids. When it was time to line up some Grade 2-3 girls decided to question me.
"Miss, do you have a boyfriend?"
"No, I don't."
"Why not Miss?"
"I just don't want one right now. Do you have boyfriends?"
Both girls looks disgusted and go "NO!!"
Then a little boy from grade 1 goes "I have a boyfriend! Anthony!"

Just finished #handmade #leather children’s belts. These will be given to my school’s community liaison to be given to students who cannot afford one. ..... however this will not create lasting change. It will provide a few students with a little help. To create lasting change we must #changethesystem ... while giving some money to a homeless person helps in that moment it does not last. .... if you have items to #donate please ask your local school district they may have programs that help their community as well! #lastingchange #changeagent #helpourstudents #adventuresinteaching #altruism #altruistic (at Carson Corner, Tucson) https://www.instagram.com/p/B15INOYnzqD/?igshid=1k2lsd4oewld6
