See, the problem with needing furniture and having access to a bunch of wood and power tools and rudimentary knowledge of both is that you're faced with the terrible question: do I spend a solid amount of money buying pre-made furniture, or do I save the cash and pay in hours of sanding?

[17/300] I know, I know, I know... By the look in your eyes it's time to go.
Repairing furniture is surprisingly fun! Though I normally like to leave these sorta things to my wife (learning to do woodworking is basically what has led her to become a propmaster + special effects builder), repairing the bed from our studio/guest room was a surprisingly fun endeavor. ---- The day really flew by due to this, I kinda wish I could've tinkered with something else now! Why did I keep my distance from this? I have been a guitar player since I was around 8, why did it take me so long before I got interestd in the inns and outs of actual woodworking?! ---- That John Lennon is so goddamn right, it kinda pisses me off a little bit! Anyway, them's the news regarding this dumbass you enjoy reading.. Take care now, and read you later, alligator!

Took the log I was working to work to run through the big power tools there and it turned out mad decent. Final result about 3x3" from a maybe 6" dia log with a lot of rotted and punky wood in it. Learned a bunch from this one & immediately started processing the next one to make it even possible to bring to work.
The 20° grind on the jack plane blade is so nice it goes through that wood so smoothly. Love that thing GREAT investment.
I may be insane for working oak wood with hand tools in this modern world but me and my sharpening stone and my antique draw knife will persevere

I have too many unfinished projects; some of them depend on each other -
for example, I've sewn a whole skirt BUT was adamant that it also needs handmade wooden buttons.
Was I warned by literally everybody, woodworkers and laymen both, that it was a tremendously bad idea?
Of course!
Was I myself aware that it was a tremendously bad idea?
Oh yes!
Did it stop me?
Hell no ಥ‿ಥ
I've finished 1(one) button a while ago, looked at the remaining 8 little pieces of wood... and shelved the project.
Was determined to finish them all today, could not do it - too tedious (made a progress though); instead accidentally finished another project from 2020, a Hades themed hairpin)))
both projects are made of padauk, which is naturally red, so...carnage under the cutXDD

A New Bookcase for the Library (The Adventures of Mr Cube #11)
Whenever Mr Cube was volunteering at the local library, he imagined he was guarding a valuable treasure—because, in his opinion, he really was.
One of the regular staff was another, even smaller wooden robot of the name Sharpie, who’d involved Mr Cube in friendly conversations since his very first day. Learning that Mr Cube was full of dreams, Sharpie appointed him to present an idea for the library’s new bookcase.
Penny, the library’s carpenter and general handycrab, listened attentively to Mr Cube’s presentation and confirmed that xe could make everything just the way he had envisioned it. On certain points xe further improved the initial design, and it turned out xe would even add the decorative bunnies that Mr Cube had added to his picture in a bout of whimsy.
Penny was such a skilful craftscrab that xe left Mr Cube feeling a little flushed, floaty, as if his circuits would enjoy circling around Penny more often in the future.
But then the actual work started. Sharpie had seen it coming and donned a pair of goggles, but Mr Cube only realised that he wouldn’t be able to keep watching the bookcase’s manufacturing when wood chips were whizzing right by his face. His wooden face.
If Mr Cube couldn’t stomach being around Penny when xe was doing the work xe loved so much, how would he ever manage to get to know xem better?
[Image description: On the left of the photo, there’s a pencil sharpener encased in a small wooden robot with its mouth open and an antenna on its head. Next to it, a black card, lino printed with golden ink depicting a bookcase that holds, aside from books, a globe, a bear, some potted plants, some quartz crystals, and two rabbits, is upright against a stand that holds up a pair of golden goggles. To the right of that is Mr Cube, the wooden Cubebot, who’s holding up a white heart. In front of the card, a penknife in the shape of a crab, also with a wooden body, holds up its bottle opener arm in a wave.]
The black-and-gold card on the photo was made by the amazing @tanouska.
There are already 10 more Mr Cube adventures here on Paranatellonta! [Click here] to read the older ones.

Nothing like stepping on a goathead that you tracked into the workshop, while using a circular saw, to really test your survival instincts.

Busy making window bird feeders.
We all enjoyed this little home school project and it was perfect for a snowy day stuck indoors. Our boys had a wonderful time following the instructions and learning how to use the tools. Now we just have to wait and hope the birds can find it … 🤞

Y'all, look how dark and heavy the resin was in this board of yellow pine I was planing at work (the resin is the darkest reddish-brown color at the top end of the board). The smell coming off of it was amazing but my plane blade was getting so sticky and every shaving was almost tacky to the touch. For real, though, I wish you could smell this. I love the smell of longleaf yellow pine.

While waiting for some glue to dry on a different project I put together a basic first attempt at a scrap pile router plane. I took a piece of cherry, an eye bolt, wing nut, and a leftover allen key that came with some flat pack furniture and turned it into a decent router plane. Still needs a bit more sharpening. And need to decide if I want to turn some handles for the sides.
