If someone really really wants to get in your house they will get in your house. A lock and any other security device is to deter people that are just trying doors to see if there’s any easy break-ins they can do with little effort. And there are people who do that.
Tbh I don’t think doorbell cams and security systems actually do much. Putting a fake “this house is protected by ADT” sign in front will probably be just as effective as getting an actual security system.
Because if someone really wants to break into your house they’re gonna do it security system be damned and they’re gonna have their face covered and the cops aren’t gonna help you because they never do. All that security stuff is just to deter people looking to do easy smash and grabs. And that doesn’t always work anyways. And if people in your area put cages over their windows or whatever local thieves are gonna be carrying around bolt cutters. Those won’t stop anything unless you’re the only person in your neighborhood with a cage over your window.
Best thing you can do to protect your stuff is to lock your door, make it hard to see what valuable stuff you have in your house, and don’t leave anything outside you aren’t prepared to lose.

For the past 3 weeks or so I've been getting almost daily calls from ADT, a security alarm company, stating my business in NYC is sending a distress signal. Initially I thought it was a scam because I do not have a business in NYC but the calls kept coming and at all hours of the day.
So I looked up the business and called them yesterday.
Turns out their alarm has been malfunctioning for roughly 3 weeks and they couldn't figure out why they weren't getting calls about the constant distress signal it was (incorrectly) sending. Because ADT had a single digit off and was calling me instead of them.
However that means the phone call went like this:
Me: hi can I speak to a member of management
Them: speaking, what can I do for you
Me: OK this probably sounds crazy but I've been getting calls from your security system for about 3 weeks and figured you should probably know. And also I want them to stop calling me at 3am.
Them: ...OH MY GOD THAT'S WHY THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING
Me: yeah I thought it wasn't real at first but then it didn't stop
Them: no no I'm looking at our caller ID and the number we're supposed to have on file is a digit off of yours, I know exactly what the problem is, thank you SO much
And then I got a text from the person I assume is the manager I spoke to thanking me profusely again for helping them sort out the problem. So all's well that ends well but I was a little concerned they'd be offended or accuse me of scamming them. I haven't gotten a call from their system since I told them yesterday so here's hoping they get the random late night/early morning wake up calls instead of me from here on out.

A Widespread Microsoft Outage Disrupted Flights, Banks, Media Outlets And Companies Around The World On Friday And Highlighted Dependence On Software From A Handful Of Providers – New York City reporting
The issue affected Microsoft 365 apps and services, and escalating disruptions continued hours after the technology company said it was gradually fixing it.
Microsoft 365 posted on X that the company was “working on rerouting the impacted traffic to alternate systems to alleviate impact in a more expedient fashion” and that they were “observing a positive trend in service availability.”
Major disruptions reported by airlines and airports grew. Flight tracking website Flightaware reports more nearly 1,000 flights canceled and over 12,000 more are delayed. Chicago O'Hare, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta, Newark , La Guardia and Boston Logan International Airport lead Flightaware's "misery map" with the most delays and cancellations.
In the U.S., the FAA said the airlines United, Delta and Allegiant had all been grounded. American Airlines lifted its ground stop just after 5 a.m ET, saying they were able to "safely re-establish operations."
An earlier ground stop for Frontier Airlines was lifted just after midnight, and the carrier said they had resumed normal operations, for now.
Travelers at Los Angeles International Airport slept on a jetway floor, using backpacks and other luggage for pillows, due to a delayed United flight to Dulles International Airport early on Friday.
Across the pond, Edinburgh Airport said the system outage meant waiting times were longer than usual. London’s Stansted Airport said some airline check-in services were being completed manually, but flights were still operating.
The budget airline Ryanair said they are "experiencing disruption across the network due to a global third party IT outage which is out of our control. We advise all passengers to arrive at the airport at least three hours before their scheduled departure time.”
Widespread problems were reported at Australian airports, where lines grew and some passengers were stranded as online check-in services and self-service booths were disabled. Passengers in Melbourne queued for more than an hour to check in, although flights were still operating. Airlines Virgin Australia and Qantas were severely affected by the outage.
News outlets in Australia — including the ABC and Sky News — were unable to broadcast on their TV and radio channels, and reported sudden shutdowns of Windows-based computers. Some news anchors broadcast live online from dark offices, in front of computers showing “blue screens of death.” Telecommunications providers, banks and media broadcasters were also disrupted as they lost access to computer systems. Outages reported on the site DownDetector included the banks NAB, Commonwealth and Bendigo, as well as internet and phone providers such as Telstra. The New Zealand banks ASB and Kiwibank said their services were down.
Television stations in the United Kingdom were being disrupted by the computer issues.
Hospitals in Britain and Germany also reported problems.
Israel’s Cyber Directorate said that it was among the places affected by the global outages, attributing them to a problem with the cybersecurity platform Crowdstrike. The outage also hit the country’s post offices and hospitals, according to the ministries of communication and health.
In South Africa, at least one major bank said it was experiencing “nationwide service disruptions” as customers reported they were unable to make payments using their bank cards at grocery stores and gas stations.
Numerous European airlines are using manual check-in.

In The Orchestra Of God
MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK
=========================
+ Romans 6:2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer
=========================
VERSE OF THE DAY
========================
+ Psalm 127:1 Unless the Lord builds a house,the work of the builders is wasted.
Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.
=========================
** SAY THIS BEFORE YOU READ; HERE’S SOME CHRISTIAN TRUTHS **
I AM NO GOOD WITHOUT GOD
I AM HIS
I AM FOCUSED
I AM HIS INSTRUMENT
********************************
THOUGHTS:
=======================
We can start any task we want, I mean anything; we can build a computer from scrapes or a car, we can run for mayor or president, we can go to school and get any degree, start a business with our own two hands, we can do anything we place our mind on, but at the end of the day, the Lord is telling us through this verse
IF HE DIDN’T build it , IF IT WASN’T started with him,IF IT WASN’T in his will IT. IS. A. waste of time, because whether we believe this is or not that everything must be done in the will of God, not ours, God gives us free will to do what we like, when we like , but we must do what his will is for our life ,so before we do anything we must do two things . Seek his will and give him credit for EVERYTHING.
We have to understand that God wants to be part of our lives every day; he wants to be included in our plans; he wants us to talk to him every day; he wants us to place nothing before him, and he wants us to love him and mediate on his word day and night.
The next part of this verse says that unless the lord protects a city by guarding it with sentries, what sentries mean soldiers, so unless the city is protected with and by God placing guards near the entrance or in the city is no good it won't help, we can build whatever we want to block anything anyone out of a city. We can put any ADT security system on every house or Ring Door Bell;if God isn't who we say protects our house, it won't happen because God's strength is what keeps us and protect us from things seen and unseen.
" 1 Corinthians 3:7 So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth."
It tells us here that we can get the best pastors and teachers to plant a seed of understanding; we can even have one of those pastors to water it, but it doesn't matter at all because God grows it; God is in control of everything and the moment we get this we will totally understand that our life isn't our own, as much as Paul had other plans to go kill a bunch of folks ,Jesus said no, he was immediately stopped and turned around, God controls everything even when Abraham gave his wife to Abimelek God blocked it and told Abimelek no you can't do this, see even if we say yes. God says no; it will always be left up to God. Now, sometimes, God will let us do whatever we like so we can see that he's in control. We discussed on Sunday in the devotional Avoiding Bitter Fruit that God is in control, and we must follow.
•Psalm 115: 3 Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases.
•Isaiah 14:24 The Lord of hosts has sworn: “As I have planned, so shall it be, and as I have purposed, so shall it stand,
•Job 12:10 In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind.
God is in control of everything; we can try to go against this, but the Holy Spirit wants us to understand that in this through our devotionals this week that, our lives belong to God on high, everything that has breath must surrender to him alone, and that whatever you're doing in your life if you think that you're controlling it your not we must render whatever control we have and give it unto God now.
Isaish 55:8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
We will never understand God; he will give us fragments for us to know him, but our thoughts will never be his thoughts, our ways will never be his ways, and we will always be outside of everything, wondering about his mystery and glory and the reason being for us to continue to seek him if we know everything we will have no reason to seek him. Still, as long as we are curious and engaging and reading and talking to him, we will always wonder and need more and more.
***Today seek God give him praise , give him everything your suppose to render unto him because in today’s devotional as we can see that it means nothing until we give ourselves to him, we aren’t protected through our hands but his , we aren’t alive because of our body it’s because he says so , we are given opportunities each time to give God praise to give everything unto him honor , but it’s up to us to do it .
A lot of times we will forget because we like to get pats on the back but really and truly we aren’t due any praise we are just instruments in his orchestra and until we realize that we will always lack, give God credit in everything , and hear him when he speaks to you ! ©Seer~ Prophetess Lee
========================
PRAYER
========================
Heavenly Father we come to you today asking that you forgive us of any sins we have done . Help us to apply this lesson to our lives ! Lord we are sorry if we said that we are in control when we aren’t , we render control to you right now . Lord we also ask that you be with us and help us to hear your voice . Help us to stop when you say stop , help us to speak when you say speak help us to not just do it one day but every day help us to be a living sacrifice for you , use us father God ! Help us to seek you with our whole heart and not parts , lord we love you and need you in Jesus Name Amen

ADT Inc., formerly The ADT Corporation, is an American security company that provides residential and small business electronic security, fire protection, and other related alarm monitoring services throughout the United States. The corporate head office is located in Boca Raton, Florida. In February 2016, the company was acquired by Apollo Global Management for $6.9 billion in a leveraged buyout. In January 2018, the company went public on the New York Stock Exchange.
History
In 1863, Edward A. Calahan invented a stock ticker and formed the Gold and Stock Telegraph Company in 1867 to exploit the technology. Gold and Stock also developed a messenger system that sent instructions to and from the stock exchange floor. Three years later, the president of Gold and Stock Telegraph Company woke up to a burglar in his home, which inspired him to create a telegraph-based alert system. This system eventually connected 50 of his neighbors to a central station, where all the alert boxes were monitored. There were many small telegraph delivery companies in the United States in the 19th century.
In 1874, 57 district telegraph delivery companies affiliated and became American District Telegraph (ADT). With the increase in telephone usage in the late 19th century, ADT's messenger business slowly declined in popularity. ADT tried branching out and developing their signaling business while still maintaining their telegraph business as their primary income source.
ADT incorporated into Western Union in 1901 and separated its messenger business from its main signaling business at that time. In 1909, Western Union and ADT came under the control of American Telephone & Telegraph Company (AT&T). ADT began to expand into new areas, such as fire alarms and security alarms, between 1910 and 1930, but was kept separate from AT&T's Holmes alarm business. ADT became a publicly traded company in the 1960s.
In 1964, ADT was found to be a monopoly in restraint of trade. It was shown to provide almost 80% of the central station alarm service in the United States. In some cities, such as New York City and Memphis, Tennessee, they were the sole provider. They were also found to have forced competitors out of business by lowering prices below cost. They would charge national accounts very low prices in cities with competitors and much higher prices where no competition was available. ADT was forced to adopt a national price list, which could not be varied, to help establish central station competitors in cities without competition and to pay fines and triple damages to the federal government, customers, and local competitors.
In early 1987, the firm Hawley Goodall, owned by Michael Ashcroft, bought the Indianapolis-based Crime Control Inc., the fourth-largest company in the U.S. security market, for $50 million. Later in the year, it bought ADT and moved to Bermuda. This purchase transformed Hawley into the leading security services business in the United States and resulted in the majority of its revenues coming from the North American market. As a result of the acquisition, Hawley changed its name to ADT Limited and decided to refocus its business around security services. At the end of 1987, the company sold its North American-based facility services business to Denmark's ISS A/S.
In 1997, ADT was purchased by Tyco International in a reverse takeover.
Broadview acquisition
Yard sign indicating the presence of an ADT system at a home
In January 2010, Tyco acquired Broadview Security (formerly Brink's Home Security), then ADT's largest competitor, for $2 billion. When the acquisition closed later that year, the Broadview name was discontinued, and Broadview's operations were integrated into ADT.
Separation from Tyco and Apollo ownership
ADT Service vehicle in Quebec, 2010
In September 2011, Tyco announced that it would split into three companies, ADT being one of the three.[15] On October 1, 2012, ADT debuted as an independent public company and began trading on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: ADT). In 2014, it acquired the Canadian company Reliance Protectron Security Services from Reliance Home Comfort[16] for a total of Can$555 million.
In February 2016, Apollo Global Management acquired ADT for nearly $7 billion and merged it with another home security firm, Protection 1. The purchase price represented a premium of approximately 56 percent over ADT's closing share price on February 12, 2016, and when combined with Protection 1, represented an aggregate transaction value of approximately $15 billion. The company went public again in January 2018 and again on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol ADT. As of 2023, Apollo still retains a majority share in ADT.
In April 2018, ADT acquired Aronson Security Group Inc. and Acme Security Systems as part of its commercial expansion plans.
In October 2019, Telus Corporation purchased all of ADT's Canadian assets for $700 million. By September 2020, Telus had renamed ADT's Canadian operations to Telus SmartHome Security.
In August 2020, Google announced that it would invest $450 million in ADT in exchange for a 6.6% equity stake. The partnership will leverage ADT's network of installers to sell and install Nest devices, and aim to integrate Google's AI and Nest smart home devices into ADT's services.
In November 2021, ADT announced an agreement to acquire Sunpro Solar, a residential rooftop solar power contractor, for $160 million in cash plus approximately 77.8 million shares of ADT common stock, implying a total enterprise value of approximately $825 million. The company was rebranded as "ADT Solar" and operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of ADT. In January 24, 2024 ADT announced that due to financial difficulties they will be closing their solar division.
In September 2022, State Farm announced that it would invest $1.2 billion in ADT in exchange for a 15% equity stake, and that it would commit up to $300 million to an "opportunity fund" to support ADT's marketing, technology, and innovation. At the same time, Google separately announced it would commit a further $150 million into a "success fund" for ADT.
ADT completed divesting its commercial security, fire and life safety business unit to private equity firm GTCR for $1.6 billion in October 2023.
Operations
As of March 2019, ADT had nine monitoring centers and a network of more than 17,000 professionals, serving 6 million customers in over 200 locations throughout the United States.[non-primary source needed]
Controversies
On July 10, 2023, ADT disclosed that errors were identified in regards to their non-cash goodwill impairment losses associated with their Solar reporting unit and related tax impacts. These errors were identified during the third quarter of 2022 and the first quarter of 2023. As a result, the company announced that their financial results for the third and fourth quarter of 2022 and the first quarter of 2023 would be restated. Consequently, investors were negatively impacted as ADT's stock price decreased during trading, the following day.

The thing that stuck out to me about this house is that she's manually installing those cheap, temporary door-stop alarms. Why doesn't she have a remote-monitoring home security system with door and window alarms, motion sensors, and cameras? She doesn't have glass-break alarms. She doesn't mention smoke detectors. She's got the inexpensive Wyze cameras that don't integrate with anything else. Her setup relies on her as a single point of failure.
Remote monitoring means that if you're incapacitated, the alarm company gets the alarm and can call 911 for you. Sure, it's pricey ($$/mo), but if she's paranoid enough to install shim locks on the doors, surely she's willing to shell out however much is charged by ADT or Vivint or SimpliSafe or Abode or Cove or whomever.
This video could be one half of an advertisement. Put on a TikTok duet where this video runs in contrast with someone who waves goodbye to her husband, presses the "Arm Stay" button on the panel, and then goes about the rest of her day with a smile on her face and warm background lighting.

daily kestrel 116:
today actually went pretty well! I got out of work right after I posted yesterday's daily, and then went to pick up meds for both Peyton and Paige before I headed home. I got some cleaning done at the house today, mainly vacuuming the upstairs and organizing our clothes situation while Paige worked on cleaning the kitchen. once I got that cleaning done I headed over to Penny's to meet my parents over there, we packed up my car and Dad's truck with most of the things from her garage and ate a small lunch before heading back to the new house in time to meet Peyton there
Peyton and Paige were already talking to the ADT rep who stopped by today when we got in, so we did a brief tour of the downstairs while they finished up getting our new service set up, apparently they're coming by tomorrow to get new security system equipment installed for freee, so that will be nice, and Paige is paying for the monitoring, which helps out a lot. Paige gave Mom and Dad their tiki bar sign she got them on the cruise, and mom gave Paige a Dolly Parton coffee table book (which worked especially well since Penny got her a Dolly Parton shirt, and they didn't even know about each other's gifts), and then they led us outside for the biggest and best Christmas gift anyone's ever gotten us - they bought the lot of land next door for us!! it's ours!! we don't have to worry about a land developer getting it or saving up for it or anything, it's just OURS!!
after that excitement, the rest of the afternoon was spent unpacking the cars (which happened pretty efficiently) and then we went to dinner at a local Mexican place that was pretty good, I got some hella tasty carnitas quesadillas. we tried to go get the key blanks we ordered cut, but the guy at Lowe's didn't want to do his job, and Home Depot flatly refused since we didn't buy them there, so tomorrow we shall stop at Ace Hardware (which actually sells the key blanks we ordered, they were just really out of the way) to get them cut so we can finally each have a copy of the house key. I called Memi before bed to tell her thank you for the contribution to the land and to talk to her about the house, and I've just been hanging out upstairs while Paige is playing Princess Peach Showtime and Peyton is playing marvel rivals in the den, I intended to read fanfic but Tyler started streaming so I hopped in there for a bit, but now I have taken my night time cough meds, so it is well and truly bedtime. may tomorrow be painless and efficient, amen
#friday#December#i also started listening to welcome to night vale again when i was organizing clothes and also on the drive to Penny's#it's weirdly nostalgic considering that i started listening to it in high school and never caught up past like ep 50#so even though im listening to new to me eps they came out in like 2015#i also booked my GACE exam for February 13th#so that will be fun#my dad still won't look Paige in the eye but it's her house too and he's been standing in it so that's progress#oh our water also got turned off this morning but they were able to get it back on today#one of the not perks of buying a house towards the end of December is the processing delays in paperwork#like the paperwork to get the water switched to your name
