I'm sure others are also wondering what this chapter means for Jian Yi's dreams, especially the one in in chapter 105 that seems to contradict the events of this newest chapter. I don't think Old Xian is retconning here.

My way of reading Jian Yi is.... knowing that he is an unreliable narrator. I love him, but I almost cannot trust a thing he says because a big part of his character is hiding his darker self, his true feelings, in order to cope and not make ZZX worried.

The earlier scenes being dreams makes it even more unreliable. He can't have real memories from that early on, but he only has the knowledge of his father being absent from as long as he can remember. I take the dreams as representations of his subconscious feelings rather than truths, like the one in chapter 136 when his father pushes him down. I mean, they're dreams.
