Equally charming and stern, Heine Wittgenstein is a brilliant man who commands respect, despite his short, childlike stature. Thus, the king of Grannzreich has called upon Heine to undertake a daunting task that has driven away many before him—become the new royal tutor to four princes who are in line for the throne.

The four heirs each have very distinct and troublesome personalities: Licht, the flirtatious youngest prince; his immature older brother Leonhard; Bruno the studious third prince; and Kai, the oldest of the four and the most reserved. Hilarity ensues as Heine attempts to connect with each of the princes in order to groom them for the throne. However, Heine's mysterious past and dark undercurrents in the present may threaten the harmony within the kingdom.

Since finishing The Royal Tutor manga, I’m curious about figuring out Heine’s age. It’s never given, but often estimated to be somewhere from late twenties even to early forties. This is often based on his close relationship with the king, Victor, who is in his 40s. But I think Heine is quite a bit younger, based on this panel:

Heine states that Princess Adele, the youngest of the royal children, is old enough to be his daughter. But that’s not a very good estimate of Heine’s age, given that Adele is only three years old. (Which means Licht, stop being weird in the third panel please.) I’m 23 years old, meaning I could have a daughter Adele’s age.

But it’s not what Heine says that gets my attention; it’s what he doesn’t say. Throughout the manga and the anime, he never says “I’m old enough to be your father” to the princes. He never even says this to the youngest of the princes, Licht (14) and Leonhard (15), even when they’re goofing off and not taking him seriously because of his appearance. Heine only asserts that he is “older than he looks.”

Keeping this in mind, I propose that Heine is somewhere around 25-30 years old, probably closer to 30 but no older.

The biggest question I have about the Royal Tutor is what happened to the queen? She’s never mentioned once throughout the series, and only is seen in one or two panels in a flashback in the manga.  Any theories out there?

Couldn’t care less what his siblings do
