do you have any recs for more folk-influenced women's noise projects? i really like svitlana nianio and aine o'dwyer and i'm wondering if there's more similar stuff out there
Hello there, it's a very interesting question! There's plenty of artists who mix folk with experimental/noise/contemporary. Here's a list of few I can think of right now:
There's Księżyc [x], a 90s experimental classic from Poland - it's a whole band, but fronted by two women.
Adela Mede [x] is a Czech artist creating contemporary sound collages with some folk vocals
Maryana Klochko [x] - an Ukrainian artist, her style ranges from more electroacoustic to more trip-hopy/electronic, worth checking out few of her tracks to get a range (I like the song Kvity, which kind of changes from one to another)
Tomoko Sauvage [x] - Japanese artist hugely inspired by various music folklore traditions, such as Carnatic water-bowls instrument
Julia Ulehla / dalava [x] - Czech vocalist, composer, ethnomusicologist "With her husband guitarist Aram Bajakian, she initiated a new line of performance research based on the ancestral song tradition of her father’s lineage, sourcing folk songs collected and transcribed by her great-grandfather, biologist Vladimír Úlehla".
Daina Dieva [x] - from Lithuania. Her works aren't maybe the most folklorish, but their closeness to the world of nature makes me put her in the mix
Audrey Chen [x] - Chinese-American artist mixing cello, voice and analogue synthesizers to create hauting compositions
Sainkho Namtchylak [x] - is a Tuvan experimental singer, known for using Tuvian throat singing and overtone singing named Khöömei. She mixes elements of east asian culture with genres such as avant jazz or electronica.
For more Slavic avant-folk check out this this compilation by In Crudo: [x] it's not all-women but features some inspiring women artists (Svitlana Nino and Księżyc included)
One can mix folk traditions with pretty much any genres I tried to stick to your artists of reference, but it's hard to find something *just like that* and nothing else - there are many more artists than these I've mentioned!

Sylvain and Medee: C-Support
Summary: Medee is working in the infirmary when Sylvain comes in to get treatment for an injury. The two have a conversation, and Sylvain learns something interesting about Mother Vestra.
Written in script format under the cut.
Medee: [TENDING TO THE INFIRMARY, PAUSES] You are avoiding me, it seems. Hiding from me and my old age. Quite rude, you know, Young Gautier.
Sylvain: [POKES HIS HEAD INTO THE ROOM] Uh, no? Not hiding. Nope. Just….uh…did you guess I was there? Or did someone tell you I was coming, or…?
Medee: [TURNS TO LOOK AT HIM] You are injured.
Sylvain: Ah, no. It's nothing.
Medee: [CHANGES DEPENDING ON WHO SYLVAIN HAS HIGHEST BOND WITH] If it were nothing, you would not have been sent to me. Let me guess…. it was [NAME HERE], wasn't it? You two have been growing particularly close as of late.
Medee: [IF THE HIGHEST BOND SYLVAIN HAS IS WITH A VESTRA] I must say, I did not anticipate you of all people to grow close to my children.
Sylvain: Yeah, well, what can I say? I'm a likeable guy.
Medee: Is that right? Well then, I would like it if this 'likeable guy' would sit down on the bed and allow me to tend to the cut on his leg. And the sprain of his wrist. And perhaps, if we have time, that kink in his back.
Sylvain: Hold on. How did-?
Medee: Are you going to sit down, Gautier? Or must I acquire a sedative?
Sylvain: Ah…well….okay….Sitting down.
Medee: Good. [GOES TO GRAB SUPPLIES] You are quite reckless when it comes to your own safety over that of your allies. That is a trait you got from your father, no doubt.
Sylvain: Can we not talk about him right now? I just want to get patched up and get back to the front lines. Anything else can wait until after the war.
Medee: Yes, you definitely are Matthias's son. Though your features don't resemble him much. Aside from hair and eye color. No, your softer cheekbones come from Adela.
Sylvain: I said can we not- wait…you know my mother?
Medee: Is it so strange that I know her? She was a graduate the same year I was. Though she was a little younger. [HANDS HIM A SMALL PLUSH DRAGON] Hold onto this and squeeze if the medication stings.
Sylvain: Right. [TAKES THE PLUSH] It's not that it's strange, I just…didn't expect you to remember her at all. Most people don't remember my mother's name. They focus on me or my father. Never her.
Medee: A curse that befalls all Crestless women who marry in the Kingdom and don't carve a name through magic or battle. However, I make it a point to remember the names of every living being who has ever tangentially crossed paths with me, even if there is some distance removed.
Sylvain: And just how far does that remembering go?
Medee: Do you really wish to know?
Sylvain: We're gonna be here a while. And I'm curious just how much you really know about my mother.
Medee: Very well. [CONTINUES TREATMENT AS SHE TALKS] Adela Luz Gautier was once the daughter of a minor noble house by the name Monterey, who were very distantly related to House Dominic. Most of House Monterey passed on during the Plagues, leaving her the only survivor. She was a Blue Lion the same year as Matthias, Rodrigue, and his Majesty, King Lambert. Despite her being near five years their junior at the time, she was formidable with Reason Magic, a skill you picked up. She was also the Blue Lion representative for the White Heron Cup that year. She lost to the Black Eagles representative, whose portrait remains hanging in the Gautier family home to this day…
[SOME TIME LATER]
Medee: There. All done.
Sylvain: Woah. I can't believe it. It's like I never suffered any pain before in my life. They don't call you Mother of Faithology for nothing.
Medee: You are a flatterer. That is a trait you also got from Adela.
Sylvain: I'll take that as a compliment.
Medee: You should. Adela is an incredibly sincere individual. Always has been.
Sylvain: Yeah. She has. Well, I better get going. Lot of work to do. [TURNS TO LEAVE, PAUSES] Would…it be okay to come talk to you again? About my mother?
Medee: [NODS] Of course. It will be a nice change of pace from having you avoiding me as though I were a Demonic Beast.
Sylvain: Uh…right. Well, talk to you later then. [LEAVES]
Medee: Hmh...

Sylvain and Medee A-Support
Summary: Following a mission, Sylvain goes to speak with Medee. The two come to an understanding, and their relationship changes. Content Warnings: Discussions of past abuse, complicated feelings, grief,
Important Note: This support is only available following the Paralogue "Lament of Sister Rivers".
Written in script format under the cut.
Sylvain: [KNOCKS ON THE DOOR TO MEDEE'S ROOM] Medee? May we talk?
Medee: The door is unlocked.
Sylvain: Okay. I'm coming in. [ENTERS, SEES HER SITTING BY THE WINDOW] How're you doing? No one's seen you since the last battle…
Medee: I am…managing. It's a little amusing, really. I thought facing Matthias would give me closure. Instead, it just reminds me of the promises he failed to keep. And of the people dear to me who I lost. I'm not sure how to describe this feeling. Not quite hollow, but…
Sylvain: It's….like an empty pit formed, where grief once made its home in you.
Medee: You understand.
Sylvain: He's my father. When the war started, I grieved the loss of our relationship. But as time passed and I had the chance to really think about things…. I found only a hollow anger. Speaking with you, getting to know you and your kids better… now I'm just angry at my father. I can't help but wonder what things could have been like if I had you in my life sooner. If…
Medee: If maybe I had been involved, you and Miklan could have been brothers?
Sylvain: See right through me, huh? I hate it. I hate that I feel this way. I hate that I can't just turn it off. But…I don't want to turn it off. If anything, I want to burn. I want to burn everything to the ground and leave nothing but ash and soot in my wake.
Medee: Careful, little ember. That spark can be dangerous if you do not keep it in the hearth.
Sylvain: I know. I don't intend to let things go crazy. But…I feel like it's gonna be hard. It would be so easy to just lose control. I can't help but wonder if I should.
Medee: You have friends who love you and will keep you grounded. Just remember to lean on them when you need to. And, if you'll have me, I will support you in whatever way you need.
Sylvain: I appreciate it. By the way…the "things" I retrieved for you….
Medee: Ah, yes. Be sure to deliver my thanks to your mother for returning my sister's personal effects to me. As well as her remains.
Sylvain: I'm sorry there was only an urn and ashes.
Medee: It matters not. She is now at rest in the Anavros family tombs, as she wanted. That is what matters to me. However…are you both okay with Miklan resting there as well?
Sylvain: He's your nephew. He should be with family.
Medee: You and Adela are his family as well, though.
Sylvain: Faerghan tradition means funeral pyres and certain honors. Those honors aren't usually extended to criminals though. It took everything my mother had to ensure his ashes were kept. She did her best. She loved Miklan. Even if he didn't reciprocate. She wanted him to be with his mother's family.
Medee: Well then…I shall leave it at that, then.
Sylvain: ….Lady Medee?
Medee: Yes?
Sylvain: I…want to offer my condolences. For the loss of your sister, nephew, and your sister's unborn child.
Medee: [STARES AT HIM IN GENUINE SHOCK] I….pardon?
Medee: My mother isn't here, but she would offer the same to you face to face if she could. Though…this is all me. I'm truly sorry for your loss.
Medee: [TAKES A DEEP BREATH TO STEADY HERSELF] You… might be the first person to offer me any form of condolence for them. Thank you. [GETS UP, GOES OVER TO A BOX ON HER DESK] I suppose I won't feel guilty gifting this to you, now. [HANDS HIM A BROOCH] Here. It was my sister's favorite. A family heirloom blessed to help the wearer survive grievous injuries for a short time.
Sylvain: Woah. It's …lovely. I... Medee, I can't accept this. It's too precious, isn't it? It should go to family. Not…not me.
Medee: Sylvain, I know my sister as I do my very soul. She was kind. Optimistic. Compassionate. Willing to make the truly difficult sacrifices if it meant protecting what she saw as right. She was the kind of person who made up for others deficits. She brought out the best in others, and did everything she could to reassure others that their existence had meaning. And if there is one thing I am certain of….it's that if she were here today, she'd love you so fiercely, as if you were born of her own flesh.
Sylvain: You…you really think so?
Medee: I know so. Because I care for you as though you were my own son, and I said, I know my sister as I do my own soul. And besides, it would be going to family regardless of my feelings towards you. The brooch has another little trick to it, you see. Every wearer's name appears on the back of it the moment they put it on for the first time. Take a look at who wore it last.
Sylvain: [LOOKS ON THE BACK, GASPS] Miklan?
Medee: My sister never took it off the whole time it was in her possession. Except once.
Sylvain: I see….Thank you, Medee. I promise, I'll protect this gift with everything I have.
Medee: You've truly dropped the "Lady" when addressing me. Good. Now let's see if we can change "Medee" to "Auntie".
Sylvain: I don't think I'm ready for that. Maybe eventually. We have all the time in the world now.
Medee: That we do.
