Bidding our goodbyes
As a goodbye to their home for the past few years, they decided to paint the outside banner and posts Foxbury red. May the next students that reside here belong to the superior university and change even more things inside.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Neve and Addison are returning to Chestnut Ridge. Neve misses Moon Pie dearly and desperately wants to get back on that saddle! Addison decided to buy some mini goats and sheep to take care of and to help Dawn in the garden. They might end up living together forever, at this point.
Norman and Terrell—who are cousins, fyi—are taking the long trip to Norman's parents' house in Windenburg before they decide where to go next.
And Madisyn didn't want to go back to her step-mother's house, so Neve offered the cottage in Chestnut Ridge. It wasn't luxury, but it was peace and quiet and that was more valuable at this moment.
I'm going to miss playing with them simultaneously. 🤧

I could Tell You
I could tell you the colour of her bedroom curtains,
I could tell you that she keeps a packed suitcase behind her door, it was originally a threat to her mother but became a promise to herself  when she realised her mother wouldn't care,
I could tell you she has one hundred and seventeen freckles on her face and neck but her favourite one is right on the ridge of her left cheekbone because her mother once upon a time told her they were the marks from fairy kisses,
I could tell you that that freckle is her favourite because she misses when her mother would say such trivially cute things to her,
I could tell you that her favourite colour is rose pink, but she'll never wear it because she thinks it looks bad on her and she doesn't want to ruin how she thinks of that colour I could tell you that she actually has much lighter hair than her sister  but dyed it darker to try and be like Alice
I could tell you that she is pale with sensitive skin, meaning she has at least a minor sunburn a lot of the time, but has never gotten a blister before and so doesn't know why people complain about them hurting so much,
I could tell you she bites her nails and started painting them blue when she was fourteen to deter herself
I could tell you that even now that she has Addison, she feels desperately lonely more often than not because that is the damage that was done to her by her family that only they could help her heal, but they won't and she has accepted that
I could tell you that her depression is undiagnosed, she just knows it's there, she's not blind enough to not know what it is, but years of gaslighting has her afraid to see a doctor about it
I could tell you she chooses the sword instead of studying the magic that fairies are capable of because it's easier for her to take herself out with a sword should the need arise
I could tell you that she doesn't want a funeral when she dies, she just wants to be forgotten, and that the thought of getting married or raising a family never entered her mind and despite how intelligent she is, she's still closed-minded and resistant to world-changing information.
I could point out every crack and show you exactly how she is broken, but I can't tell you how to help her.

OC In 15
Thank you for the tag @the-down-upside-finch!!! This is so fun!!!!
Rules: Share 15 or fewer lines of dialogue from an OC, ideally lines that capture the character/personality/vibe of the OC. Bonus points for just using the dialogue without other details about the scene, but you're free to include those as well!
I uh. Did all of the POV Quartet. So I will tag people up top and put it all below a readmore LMAO. Tagging @saintedseraph, @k-v-briarwood, @sentfromwolves, @veneritia, and @scribe-scott!!
Rosamund:
"It's not true. I'm not- I'm not bad. It was-wasn't my idea. I ju-just want to be wi-with the people I lo-love. Please."
"Roland. Teach me how to fight. [...] For me. For my peace of mind. For the worst case scenario."
"You're doing this to ensure I don't put an end to the war you're so desperately trying to start, and I won't stand for it."
"Magic isn't a sickness, mother. I'm proud to have it."
"I thought we were in no danger here?" ["Well, I certainly hope so, but there's no harm in being prepared."] "So the knights should be at the dinner."
["I will not let you ruin your future."] "You are ruining my future. I've seen it."
"Have you ever gotten the feeling you're seeing someone for the last time?"
"I'd rather have died in that fire than continue to be tied to a nation of small-minded slaughterers."
"You all fear magic. My mother did, too. But keep this in mind for if we ever meet again. You are no longer negotiating with a like-minded Sivonese noble. You are dealing with a mage."
"I want to be nothing like [my mother]. Lucky for me, that means being a decent person."
"I won't let it happen. I will not fall to this."
"That's very interesting, but I'm not giving up until I make some progress."
"Run. Before I stop being a coward and kill you."
"I didn't mean to hide my position from you, I simply... didn't want you to be intimidated."
["You can't trust me already."] "But I'd like to."
Christie:
"Genes don't dictate guilds. Anyone can do anything."
"I'm not quitting. I may be young, but I'm not quitting. I'm just... frustrated."
"I don't care if she doesn't like me. I'm not going to stay away from you just because she wants me too."
"Val Thorne! He's an investigator, hunting down criminals all around Exosto. He's from Crown's Ridge, and I've been to some of the places he goes to in his books. Sometimes he gets details wrong, though, but that's okay. It's a fictional version of Exosto. He doesn't have to worry about things like diplomatic passage to get into Rasduk."
[debating if someone is flirting] "I think it's too early to throw it out as a theory, though. You may come across more evidence to support it. But I'd consult the opinion of an expert."
["Secret passage? Where to?"] "I don't know. I'm about to find out."
"I'm not afraid of anything. But I know it's important to be safe, and even more important to be calm, so you can handle if things go badly or if you find something gross, like a skeleton."
"I will be a great mage. Just you wait."
"I don't care if they don't want me. They never came and found me, so I don't know if they loved me that much. But I at least want to know who they are. If they look weird, like me. That kind of thing."
"I have to tell her. I don't— Don't want her to think less of me. I have to tell her."
"I don't want [Maurelle] to fall behind. I'm fine. Goodbye."
"If they're worried about time… n-no offense, but why would they hire an Investigator who is magic-averse?"
"Don't say stuff like that. That's for movies when people are about to die."
"Do you ever wish you could do magic?"
"I told you I'll stay safe. I'm not leaving."
Addison:
"My Lady. Would you like to crash this party? And this whole engagement, as it were?"
["You're the witch house guy?"] "Glad to see that's become my reputation."
["Rulers should always be honest. That's what Miss Fairchild always says."] "And she's right, but guess what? Most rulers aren't. And I'm not a ruler yet."
[to a bird] "You're a cute little thing, you know. Strange, but cute."
["What did you say about stabbing?"] "I gave them plenty of warning. And no one got hurt."
"I promise you'll be safe. I'll set you down just as soon as you'll be able to move by yourself."
"Luxurious or not, [the castle is] still a prison."
"I'm sorry? Just like them? You can just say magic-averse, Miss Fairchild, it's not a dirty word. And for your information, yes! I do plan on being just like them! Is it such a terrible thing to be? I suppose you'd think so, having magic all your life. You've never known what it's like to be without it! I'd pity you if the truth wasn't that it's terrible and limiting."
"Up for an adventure? I'm looking for a witch."
"Katamar, Dimitio, Vunwra. Guide me to what I'm seeking. Do not let me go home empty handed. I was put on this path for a reason, you put me here, did you not?"
"Funny story. I did almost die."
"I believe in all of you. I think you should at least try for what you want. It's better to try and fail than to not try at all."
["That's an antique, not a weapon."] "I think it'll do."
"I didn't meant to kill him - oh, Silpa. Oh, Silpa, I killed someone."
"I'm sorry for all that. Tha-Thank you for helping me. I promise it won't happen again."
Ashton:
"I can't have it happen again, Sutton. I want to help you, but I can't lose another town."
"Stay here. Stay hidden. I'll try and get them away from here. Keep away from the windows, and do not go outside until I come back alone. Understand?"
[lying] "I've never met a mage. I wouldn't know if I saw one."
"I'm coming with you. If… you don't mind the company."
"I'll be back. As soon as I'm able, I'll be back."
"This is a mountain, Sutton, the last thing you're going to see up here is fish."
["Anything [alcoholic] I can get you?"] "Something lighter, please."
"I can't imagine anyone being afraid of your magic."
"Hey, you're hurting yourself. You're not going to get out that way."
"If I'd known you'd react like this, I would've tried to find something else. You don't have to apologize for a reaction like this."
"How am I supposed to help you if I don't know what to avoid? If I don't know why we're doing this in the first place?"
"You were a kid asking for help. That does not put you at fault for their disappearance, you did the right thing. Anyone would have done the same."
"Twenty years, and I've been playing the victim this whole time. I'm scared of fire, a-and of rosey-armored knights, and I shouldn't be! I brought it on myself. I have no right to act this way, but I do."
[about magic] "I never thought it would feel like this."
["I've come this far."] "We've come this far."

Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen
Published: August 28, 2007 Publisher: Bantam Books
The Author
Born and raised in Asheville, North Carolina, in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Sarah Addison Allen brings the full flavor of her southern upbringing to bear on her fiction; a captivating blend of magical realism, heartwarming romance, and small-town sensibility. Her big break occurred in 2007 with the publication of her first mainstream novel, Garden Spells. The novel became a Barnes & Noble Recommends selection, and then a New York Times Bestseller. Allen continues to serve heaping helpings of the fantastic and the familiar in fiction she describes as "Southern-fried magic realism."
˗ˏˋ ´ˎ˗
The Story
In a garden surrounded by a tall fence, tucked away behind a small, quiet house in an even smaller town, is an apple tree that is rumored to bear a very special sort of fruit. The Waverleys have always been a curious family, endowed with peculiar gifts that make them outsiders even in their hometown of Bascom, North Carolina. Even their garden has a reputation, famous for its feisty apple tree that bears prophetic fruit, and its edible flowers, imbued with special powers. Generations of Waverleys tended this garden. Their history was in the soil. But so were their futures.
˗ˏˋ ´ˎ˗
The Vibe: kitchen witchery, magical family line, sisterly relationship, rebuilding relationships, plant magic, LGBTQ+ subplot, spiritual successor to Practical Magic
The Style: character driven, multiple POVs, magical realism
Trigger Warnings: domestic abuse, spousal rape, entrapment by pregnancy, fatal car accident, shooting injury
˗ˏˋ ´ˎ˗
The Review
You know how I’m always looking for the next book that gives me that Practical Magic feeling? This was the one. I don’t think it’s possible to get any closer. That’s not to say that this book is a copy-cat; the vibe is just so similar I really felt like I was being told another story in Alice Hoffman’s universe. From the first page I was so excited- I knew I’d found what I’d been looking for. Garden Spells is beautifully written; easy-going with lovely everyday magic and a sisterly relationship that I really enjoyed. I feel like the lead character, Claire, would have been friends with Sally Owens, while her sister Sydney would have definitely partied with Gillian.
Claire is the Waverley sister who remained in their hometown of Bascom, North Carolina, taking care of the beautiful Queen Anne style family home and maintaining the magical garden that surrounds their renowned apple tree, which according to local legend “would tell you what the biggest event in your life would be” if you ate its fruit. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Sydney never wanted to stay in Bascom; she never felt connected to the house or the magic that Claire and their grandmother shared. As the story opens, the sisters have not seen one another in ten years and are both experiencing incredibly lonely, albeit incredibly different, lifestyles. Claire enjoys her self-imposed isolation; she doesn’t want to share her life with anyone besides her elderly relative Evanelle and is afraid of forging connections with people who will inevitably leave. She enjoys running her own business creating beautiful culinary concoctions using flowers and plants from her garden and being left alone. On the other hand, Sydney has lived an exciting and itinerant life, which has unfortunately culminated in her being trapped in an abusive relationship with a man who controls her every step (and by extension those of their young daughter Bay). With the help of a wonderful lady, Sydney escapes this situation with Bay and returns home to Bascom, rekindling her relationship with Claire and changing all their lives forever.
“All the locals knew that dishes made from the flowers that grew around the apple tree in the Waverley garden could affect the eater in curious ways. The biscuits with lilac jelly, the lavender tea cookies, and the tea cakes made with nasturtium mayonnaise the Ladies Aid ordered for their meetings once a month gave them the ability to keep secrets. The fried dandelion buds over marigold-petal rice, stuffed pumpkin blossoms, and rose-hip soup ensured that your company would notice only the beauty of your home and never the flaws. Honeysuckle wine served on the Fourth of July gave you the ability to see in the dark and the salads made with chicory and mint had you believing that something good was about to happen, whether it was true or not.”
Claire’s business in kitchen witchery allows for some gorgeous descriptions of magical food concoctions, I mean just read the above quote and tell me that you don’t want to sample some of those dishes? For me, the absolute best aspect of this book is the various descriptions of magic, from the kitchen and plant witchery to the special skills that each member of the Waverley family has. Evanelle in particular has a magical talent that I found super creative: the gift of Anticipation. She knows what people will need before they need it and gives them whatever it is, carrying a tote bag around town passing items out to people that will inevitably come in handy for them in future. Evanelle is such a fabulous character; an eccentric old lady who is well known in the town (and is hilariously very butt-focused, like an old Tina Belcher). I want to be her when I grow up. Sydney’s young daughter Bay has the gift of knowing where things belong without being told, which encompasses everything from kitchen utensils to people. Each family member appears to have their own skill like this, and Allen’s creativity in devising these magical concepts was a joy to read.
The garden of the Waverley house itself is even brimming with magic, with portents growing and spreading at various points in the story which I found myself becoming engrossed by (in fact, I got so into this aspect of the story that when “tiny vines of thorns started to sprout along the edge of the garden” I had a genuine “oh no!” moment). The legendary apple tree that sits at the centre of the garden is also much more of a character than you would expect. With its own moods and aims, it manipulates the people around it in order to advance the plot as it likes (and is super petulant when it wants to be too, which was really fun). Scents also evoke certain feelings within the story; Sydney is haunted by various smells, from the flowers in the Waverley garden pulling her back home, to the smell of her ex that follows her as she tries to reconcile with the past. Garden Spells contains the exact representation of magic that I love; it all feels very natural and real.
“Sydney, Bay, and Claire sat on the porch that Sunday, eating extra cinnamon buns that Claire had made from her regular Sunday order to the Coffee House. It was hot and things were out of whack. Doorknobs that everyone swore were on the right side of the doors were actually on the left. Butter melted in the refrigerator. Things weren’t being said and were left to stew in the air.”
There is some lovely LGBTQ+ representation in one subplot, which focuses on Evanelle helping a local man named Fred to accept and move past a broken relationship with his long-term partner James. Their friendship is really lovely and somewhat melancholic, as Fred waits for Evanelle’s gift to provide him with The Answer to fixing his broken relationship. Honestly, the side characters in this story were pretty much all super enjoyable (besides matriarch of the Clark family, she was a real piece of work). I often find that child characters are slightly too twee for my liking, but Bay’s scenes were all truly enjoyable. She’s a very realistic kid; her wants and worries are so well written and understandable without being over simplified or silly. Her arc of trying to recreate a dream of the moment she realizes that her life is perfect is truly lovely; she just wants her family to be happy and it’s so sweet.
Typical of this genre, there is an element of romance in the story. Personally, I’m not massively into romance literature, but Garden Spells thankfully doesn’t overdo it. The love interests are nicely developed and things happen slowly enough that it doesn’t feel like the book is All About Them. Personally, I found the sister’s relationship more rewarding, but there were nice elements like the men who are romantically attracted to the Waverleys emitting a gentle purple glow that I found cute and ethereal. A nice final touch is the inclusion of a glossary “From the Waverley Kitchen Journal” at the end of the novel which details some additional plants and their magical properties. It really solidifies the magical realism vibe of the book and leaves you wanting more.
“She had lived thirty-four years keeping everything inside, and now she was letting everything go, like butterflies released from a box. They didn’t burst forth, glad to be free, they simply flew away, softly, gradually, so she could watch them go. Good memories of her mother and grandmother were still there, butterflies that stayed, a little too old to go anywhere. That was okay. She would keep those.”
Garden Spells is a very readable story; you can cover ten pages and it feels like you’ve only read two. If you like gentle magical realism, sisterly bonds and a little bit of romance sprinkled in then I can guarantee that you’ll enjoy this book. I’m super intrigued to read the sequel, First Frost, which revisits the Waverleys, but this time with an Autumnal vibe. I feel like their story isn’t quite over and would be happy to read more about the sisters and their apple tree.

These Are the Best Schools in Palm Beach County!
Top rated schools are a common search criteria when buying a home in Palm Beach County.  The Florida Department of Education rates each of our schools annually with a grade system from “A” being the best to “F” being the lower scoring.
At Greenfield Waters Florida Realty we find that several areas have a concentration of “A” rated schools.  This quick guide will highlight areas and schools that consistently have years of “A” rating and reliable streaks of quality in their history.
Schools zones in Florida can be very different.  They often fit together like puzzle pieces and unlike other states the zones are not just related to the specific town where the school is located as they may border other towns that attend as well.  There are often Magnet Programs and Charter Schools as well that are very valuable.
Note that this list is a quick view of commonly desired schools.  They have good streaks of “A” ratings and there are certainly great schools that have “B” ratings from time to time.  There are many great schools that we just could not fit into this short list.  A full list of all schools can be found at these following links:
Florida School Accountability Reports
Clicking “School Grades” in Excel format will download the full list of schools for your review.

MARCH ON INTO THIS MONTH WITH SOME MUST HEAR “ROAR”SOME RECORDS
Reviewed by: Lyssa Culbertson
Tumblr media
Y’all know that old saying that begins “March comes in like a lion?” Well, we’d be “lion” if we told you it came in gentle like a lamb with new music releases—and we’re truthers over here! 🤠Several fantastic records were released today or in recent weeks, positively roaring their way into airwaves and earholes everywhere. Keep reading to see what we think ya ought to be listening to:
Tumblr media
Dalton Mills—
A true Kentucky King, singer-songwriter Mills released his sophomore album, A Good Place to Hide, today and we expect it to garner just as much critical acclaim as his debut. The collection of songs are charmingly stoic at times, yet melodically poetic and hauntingly beautiful per the course for a Dalton Mills track. Mills has curated a fantastic selection of tunes celebrating life, love, and dreams while also focusing his lyrical attention on the framework of despair and the darker side of living. There’s even a lovely little instrumental ditty that is fresh and sunshiney—perfect for a warm summer evening “Flyin” down a mountain road looking for a “Good Place to Hide” as the Blue Ridge Skyline” is “Fadin’.” (Listen to the record to see what I did there). For Guy Clark fans, make sure you dig in deep to find a lovely ‘lil tribute to the legendary troubadour. Speaking of troubadour status, Mills is well on his way to becoming an iconic folk balladeer for years to come. We could certainly sit here and analyze the depth behind every word and chord because there is so much depth to his work, but we want you to hear it for yourself—prepare your souls, friends!
Our favorite? The first track, “Ain’t Just a Dream” is a poignant take on the intricacies of a life lived on the road, giving your soul to the highway song and the crowds that sing along. The way he vocally paints a picture of the “spellbound scene” is sure to have listeners hooked through the last note of the last song, the same way he captivates attendees at shows with his stories along the way.
Tumblr media
Addison Johnson—
Readers may be unfamiliar with North Carolina’s native son Johnson, but if so, we’re here to tell y’all it’s well past time to get acquainted! An artist who effortlessly bridges the gap between classic honky tonk (God loves a pedal steel) and new wave country, his sophomore record definitely deserves a spin on your turntable and a permanent place in your collection. Sonically, it’s solidly sound and Johnson’s adept storytelling skills leave little to be desired in his writing—he willfully lays all his cards out in the table. Despite the seemingly lighthearted sound to a number of the songs, be sure to pay attention to the lyrics and the thematic content woven throughout the record. “Dangerous Men” isn’t just an album name and the title track, it denotes a underlying connection between the tunes on this concept record that is eager to explore all the ways life can make a good man dangerous, because we’re all merely a few steps away from the taking a ride down the wrong side of the tracks. From barroom ballads worthy of a broken-hearted jukebox like “Out of Control” to road-warrior ready jams such as “High Way” (featuring Alex Williams), this release has a little something for everyone. Hop on for a transient trip through the curves and curses of life with Johnson and we promise you’ll never wanna jump off—Hippie’s honor! 🤞🏻
Our favorite? Rounding out the record of tunes both celebrating and lamenting the sometimes darker parts of life, “Reason to Run” is a transparent, self-reflecting track that focuses on the importance of honoring who you are and chasing dreams despite what the world tries to tell you. It ain’t easy being a travelin’ man, but man…the beautiful things you get to see—and sing about!
Tumblr media
Lance Rogers—
A relatively recent newcomer to playing music over the past several years, Rogers quickly hit the pavement paying dues as he found himself while honing his sound and it’s come to fruition in a telling way with his sophomore record, Too Late for Flowers. As a complex, diverse human with a myriad of life experiences, Rogers is able to effortlessly translate that to his music full of various influences from his soul journey—the mark of a bonafide creative. This collection of songs is not only reflective of who he is as a person and an artist, brimming with foot-stomping barn burners and heartfelt ballads that tell a deeper tale than the music may sound. Featuring tunes on various subjects rather than one concurrent theme, the songs lend to the stark and sensitive sides of his eclectic essence, so to speak. Though past releases have been nothing less than excellent, Rogers seems to have found both his true voice and direction while dialing into the depth of both his songwriting and delivery. For his steadfast followers, the record features a few fan favorites he’s cultivated throughout the years but with enough new tunes to satiate even the biggest hunger for new music.
Our favorite? The closing track, “Breathe for Two” is a breath of fresh air at the end of what culminates as a stand-out release for Rogers. It shows off the softer, melodic side of his vocals and songwriting, and is such a lovely song. The interesting production at the end will make you press pause and rewind for at least *one* more listen, but we’re positive you’ll lend it several.
Tumblr media
Jordan Lee King—
Authentically Appalachian, King’s debut record draws from the mountains that surround him and the music that abounds. Though he is a recent newcomer to the scene, one listen to his ability to weave a story through time and space with his music, and you’d be none the wiser. The merit to his music can be found in it’s simplistic honesty, focusing on the trials and tribulations of a life well lived growing up in the hollers and hills. As you listen, you can’t help but become immersed in the stories as if you’re there, sitting on PaPaw’s porch pickin’ and grinnin’ true stories as if they’re merely forklore and fantasies as barefoot babes run wild and free, immune to the hardships of life being sung about. Featuring effortless harmonies and duets by the enigmatic Lucas Wayne, the songs are brimming with brightness amidst the darkness they sing of, an almost perplexing dichotomy reminiscent of a long ago time living amongst the present for those who truly listen to the message. For a debut record, we truly could not ask for more—is it on vinyl yet?!
Our favorite? The title track, “By and By”. Whew….for someone who usually has all the words, I fail to find them here. Part sweet Southern hymn, part fantastic folk tune, it details the singers’ desires for their one day home away in the sky—the added acapella recording of “This Little Light of Mine” brings a tear to the eye of sweet memories of the smell of honeysuckle and outdoor tables brimming with casserole concoctions from the church house on any Homecoming Sunday as MawMaw sang harmony in the choir, long before the ones we loved sang harmony with the angels in the kinds of heavenly homes the song dreams about. Perfection.
Tumblr media
Trey Lewis—
Being Alabama’s resident “Troublemaker” can be a hard job, but someone’s gotta do it—and troublemaker Trey Lewis is the prime example of the well-worn phrase “don’t judge a book by it’s cover.” Though we’ve been fans of Lewis’s for a long time now, we realize that he was first introduced to and gained many fans (and foes) with his first (accidental) #1 hit. Y’all probably know the one. Yeah, THAT one. However, we know the man—and the talent—behind the music and can certifiably say despite whatever your opinion may be on that, he’s quite the talented songwriter. While we can point to many past singles and records, as well as unreleased tracks, that support that notion, there are plenty on his latest album Troublemaker that we think music lovers will appreciate! Sonically and stylistically, the record is a 180 from the others on this list, but as they say variety is the spice of life! Backed by some of Nashville’s rather fresh crop of talent—along with some country legends—from songwriters to musicians, Lewis put out a backroad ready record of fun homegrown sing-alongs perfect for sunshine fueled adventures with a few lovey-dovey tracks perfect for that iconic summer romance. If you lean more towards a radio-friendly than indie folk tunes, this is the record for you! This collection of tunes expertly displays all sides of Lewis’s personality in one nice package with the silly and serious woven together in a few songs. Compared to previous album releases, the record explores a different sound—both with his vocal tone and overall sound—and it’s working for him. Though he can, and has, shown skill in a variety or musical styles over his tenure as a musician, to us the “Troublemaker” has finally settled into who he is as an artist, even if he’ll never settle down.
Our favorite? The title track, “Troublemaker,” is an affecting look at a wrong way running kinda life from the reflective perspective of a child to the lived-in lens of an adult bearing the scars while figuring out his place in life. As the former outlaw kids who evolved into the black sheep of our adult worlds, we wholeheartedly relate.
