Don't Stream on Twitch on September 1st

Look, I have no idea how Tumblr coverage works despite being on here for over a year but content creators listen up!

A bunch of streamers on Twitch have decided to go on strike due to the increasing hate raids towards minority streamers. These raids often target users from marginalized communities with floods of hateful slurs and symbols. Several streamers have even been doxxed, charged money for bits/subs they did not purchase and more.

As such, people have been posting their experiences earlier on Monday under the hashtag #TwitchDoBetter, started by RekItRaven and other streamers.

Twitch ignored them. Even more bot accounts have been revealed to the public to have been attacking people.

Hence, people have decided to not go live or onto Twitch at all on September 1st in efforts to raise awareness. Some have decided to do live ON STREAM calls to remove subs and move to their other platforms, to change bits to cash tips, to fight this in a long term format.

So either do NOT go on Twitch at all on September 1st or use your platform on Twitch to inform others.

This isn't just Twitter drama anymore. Contact Twitch to stop the hate raids, spread info, do as much as you can.

Hey, y'all I hope everyone is safe & doing well! It's my birthday week, Wednesday, September 1st is my bday, but I won't be streaming on that day as originally planned because it is also #ADayOffTwitch, when marginalized streamers are taking the day off in protest of the hate raids, doxing & followbotting, and asking Twitch to take a stand against bigotry on their platform by providing a safer & more secure service where streamers are not harassed & doxed on a regular basis simply for being Black, trans or gay. I'll be streaming on Monday, Tuesday, & Friday at 7pm EST instead. All I want for my birthday is help with my medical care. ICYMI, I had a life-threatening brain injury that permanently damaged my eyes & revealed several more chronic illnesses that need treatment last month. I'm still recovering from this. Getting medical care before it's too late is so important. I appreciate any support, shares or well wishes. I'm so grateful for every single person in our community that shares positive energy in this space. Thank you!

i feel like philza is right on the whole 'a day off twitch' thing. i don't think it will do anything at all.

twitch as a platform won't lose money, only streamers will. twitch already know about the issue and are working to combat it. the hate raiders want you off the platform, they want you to lose income, and you are doing what they want you to do. boycotting twitch for a day won't do anything.

a better idea would be organised streams that talk about the issue, in which donos, bits and sub revenue go towards anti-racism and/or queer charities. boycotting an amazon company for a day isn't going to alert them or make a dent, it's just going to make the individual lose money.

but either way, twitch already are aware of the issue and it's severity and how hate raids have been sent towards a large amount of diverse and accepting streamers and they're working to combat the issue, so i don't think it matters too much.

A Day Off Twitch

Hey folks, so normally Mixter Casual would be streaming tonight, continuing the absurdity that is Kingdom Hearts, but today is the #ADayOffTwitch protest in response to the recent slew of hate raids, so she will be participating in that and postponing today’s regularly scheduled stream.

However, she will still be doing something tonight, namely, she’ll be playing Jackbox with folks in the Project Yayhem Discord, and all are welcome to join! Unsurprisingly enough, the boycott is not working as well as it could because some people are bound by contract, some make a living off streaming, some thought boycotting wouldn't work and streamed anyway, some smaller people took this as a chance to get more views, and some simply didn't care and decided to stream or watch people anyways

Wednesday's special stream is being moved to thursday

I will of course be part of #ADayOffTwitch because I want the platform to be a safe space for everyone. If this helps build a better site then I'm in.

Speaking of not streaming, in case you didn't know, a bunch of streamers plan to stay off of Twitch for the entire day on September 1st, as part of the #TwitchDoBetter movement in response to Twitch's handling of the hate raids that have been going on. I'm giving my support by also taking #ADayOffTwitch, no broadcasting or watching any streams on Twitch.
