@dot524: This is a fandom favorite and for good reason. In this canon divergence AU, Alex is President, Henry is out, and they never got together in their 20s. Instead, they encounter each other in their late 30s and a very different type of relationship ensues. They still hide it at first, but there’s a lot of living that they both have done and need to work through. I really enjoyed the character dynamics here and how the premise changed both Alex and Henry, making them bolder and more mature. Definitely read this one!

@dot524: A Titanic AU! Adapted by an excellent writer, this one has suspense, action, romance, and intrigue. There is a MCD (Main Character Death) in here and some other tags to be aware of, but also vibrant scenes with dancing, chasing, art, and formal wear. I really enjoyed it!

I love the way Alex just slips into Henry's life like a silk glove even though Henry has his hesitations. There's abslutely no angst at all other than "you're too young for me" "no, next question" I love it. I love Henry finally feeling young for the first time. I think that is something that Henry generally feels after meeting Alex, like he's never been able to, no matter at what point in life he is. ANYWAY I'm talking about Henry way too much again for a rec. Read this.

In this canon divergent story, Alex and Henry start getting to know each other in Rio, when Alex helps him recover from a panic attack. Their friendship, and later their relationship, is a delightful slow burn with funny moments, heartbreak, and steady support of each other. I thoroughly enjoyed this start to finish — the characterization of both Alex and Henry is on point and I really enjoyed how the writer changed some of the scenes from the book while keeping key callbacks. A delight.

Having Henry and Alex meet as kids means we get years of their friendship before they even start dating, and it gives every aspect of their relationship so much depth through this entire fic. This Week in BL - Top 3 Are HEATING UP

Ongoing Series - Thai

Honestly, 3 are neck & necking for top position! They are all so good in different ways. But The Sign had me hooting with laughter this week, so it scooped #1.

The Sign (Sat YT) ep 4 of 10 - This show is literally everything (except straight) all at once. It's BL, queer, band of brothers, romcom, erotica, paranormal, fated mates, mystery, suspense, slasher, and horror. It’s the king of genre mash-up chaos. I have no idea what I’m watching but I’m ON this ride. Is it a roller coaster? Is it a haunted house? Is it a twirl & hurl? Is there candy floss? Am I even tall enough? Who tf cares. All through the second scene, I was laughing. It was legit funny. Billy has great comedic timing. Guess he’s not just a pretty face.

Everyone should be watching this. Sure, it's madness but there is genius in it.

Last Twilight (Fri YT) ep 6 of 12 -  Yech. August may be one of GMMTV’s least likable characters ever (and that is saying something). Meanwhile, MOAR language play! They spoiling me!

Ep 6 so that kiss was right on schedule. I’m looking forward to the boyfriend eps before doom & pain in the new year. Carry on GMMTV. 

Speaking of...

Cherry Magic (Sat YouTube) ep 2 of 12 - Oh they’re great. It’s great. It’s paced oddly, moving quickly through most of the key scenes of the original JBL in these first 2 eps. I think it’s intending to encompass more of the manga series than that one did. Which is good, cause that will get us all the way to The Library Kiss (TM). It's the best kiss in the manga. I also like the sides in this show (better than the JBL version). 

My Dear Gangster Oppa (Thurs iQIYI) ep 8fin - What a lovely slightly unhinged little show. Tew, can we talk? Un-ironic suspenders, that takes courage. Also, the revolver was a crazy gun choice. 

Final thoughts:

This show is just as ridiculous as its title. About a gaymer who falls in love with one of his in-game teammates, who just happens to be a IRL gangster. A real gangster, the kind that actually kills people regularly. The lead pair is doing their best with a ridiculous story and shoddy script, but I enjoyed it. Although I was grateful it wasn’t very long, what we got was oddly satisfying if, frankly, a little bit silly. Recommended. 8/10 

That said, what's important about this BL is not the show, but the production and style. Let me explain... no, too much, let me sum up.

This is a chimera BL. Regarding characters: it has Japan's style otaku + Korea's style gangster + Thailand's style friendship group. It used Thai talent + Korean money (Kakao) & IP (adapted from a manwha) but aired on a Chinese channel globally (iQIYI). I'm delighted by the eclectic insanity of this production and truly doubt that any other genre but BL could ever produce like this. It's like diplomat's BL and it's the great wonder of our age that it happened at all. This BL deserves its place in the history books on production alone, even if that place is only in the footnotes. A remarkable little monster.

For Him (Thurs iQIYI) ep 3 of 10 - The sides are… messy. Using the same actor for the old bf is… odd. But in the end, this show leaves me smiling. Which means, I like it despite myself. 

Bake Me Please (Mon Gaga) ep 4 of 6 - It's decent. It’s basically what I wanted Antique Bakery to be when I first watched that way back when (not to mention Bite Me). But there’s been so much BL since then that, for some reason, this is falling flat. I think it’s moving too fast for a Thai series. Although, say what you like, Ohm has to be one of the best soft kissers in the industry. He's just good at mouth tenderness.

Ugh, that doesn't sound right. But you know what I mean.

Twins the series (Fri GaGa) ep 7 of 10 - I love how First is so upset when Sprite starts chatting and being nice to Koh. Sprite is just a sweet easy-going likable boy. I enjoy Sprite as a main character, he’s a bubbly little communicator. And they had a cute kiss.  

Pit Babe (Fri iQIYI) ep 5 of 14 - Because there was more Alan and Jeff and they were more key to the plot I was more into this ep. I do compare it to green smoothie down the pants in the Trash Watch.

Cooking Crush (Sun YT) ep 3 of 12 - Look OffGun are truly great. But I’m just not sure we need them in BL anymore. That said, it’s nice to see Off as "the one with the crush" for a change. Also, this show is only good when OffGun are on screen together, otherwise it kinda, well, sucks.

Night Dream (Sat YT) ep 1 of 6 - Cafe setting featuring a cook and a writer. *Seems awfully familiar.* Except these two are exes and this is a reunion romance. It’s stiff and very pulp but not bad (no crap sound effects) and I am a sucker for a reunion romance. That said, Rookie Thailand is not to be trusted, proceed with caution.

Absolute Zero (Weds iQIYI) ep 12fin - I'm grateful this is over. It was tense but for the wrong reasons - sadness and confusion. This final episode was fine, but that’s because it was mostly them being together + flashbacks. Plus all the familiar actor faces of the grown-up friends (hi, Karn my lovely, still stunning I see). But 2 of 12 episodes is not enough for the 10 of suffering and confusion that came before.

In conclusion:

A man is killed on his 10th anniversary resulting in a time paradox, for which the only solution is him never meeting his childhood sweetheart until later in life. Both lovers cycle back to the past at different ages, so that they each become their own 1st & 2nd great loves, but every time it ends in pain, until each also endures 10 years of separation. Finally it gets fixed, but leaves them with multiple memories of time's failures like temporal PTSD, and everyone around them has chronic deja vu. Me? I got both. This is one of those BLs that is high-quality with great acting but poor story. If you like your BL dwelling, maudlin, and tense due to angst and suffering, then you might enjoy this. But I just regret it, 6/10. Recommended only if you like confusing time travel emo pain.

In which case, just watch Tokyo in April is... instead. Give over Thailand, Japan does it better.

Middleman’s Love (Fri YT & iQIYI ep 6 of 8 - While our main couple isn’t working for me... the side couple isn’t working for me either. I really wanted to give LeoTai a chance, this is the 3rd show I’ve seen them in, and still nope. I like Jade a lot more when he’s sad. He’s a much more pleasant screen experience depressed. I would like him to stay hurt for a couple of eps, just so I can enjoy this show a tiny bit more. But then he just goes unhinged again. Argh. I just don’t like it. 

My Universe (Sun iQIYI) Pisces of Me ep 17 of 24 - Codependent boyfriends in middle school planning for high school dealing with stuff. Including other boys being into them. 

Playboyy (Thurs Gaga) 5 of 14 eps - Dear Playboyy, it's not you, it’s me… I hate you. You’re about as deep (and as palatable) as a shot glass of cum. While I'm sure you’re someone’s kink, you're my weakest link. Goodbye. DNF

VIP Only (Taiwan Fri Gaga) ep 5 of 10 - It’s cute but I don’t think BL in this short format is Taiwan’s strength these days. And this is quite slow and dull. Perhaps they should have whacked it down to 6 eps, not 10.

Sahara-sensei to Toki-kun (Japan Fri Gaga) ep 3 of 8 - This is one of those JBLs that I should like on paper but is failing me. The drag bit was ridiculous but handled gently. The kiss was… well… something wasn’t it? It’s all very odd. I like the photographer cutie character.

The Whisperer (Sun ????) 10 eps - Thai horror BL that ALSO involves cheating (what joy is mine). I don't think even the perfect single dimple can motivate me to watch. Word is... it's terrible.

7 Days Before Valentine (Weds WeTV) 10 eps - Giving me Luminous Solution vibes. I'm waiting to binge if it's safe.

Beyond The Star (Weds iQIYI) 8 eps - House of Stars meets Boyband. I was NOT impressed with ep 1. Been told I shouldn't bother.

What Did You Eat Yesterday Season 2 AKA Kinou Nani Tabeta? Season 2 (Japan Gaga) 10 eps - I find this series more fun to binge, so I'm waiting until after it completes its run next week.

Dear Kitakyushu (Thai/Japan movie) in theaters in country only, I know nothing about distribution.

Behind the Shadows (Korea movie) this is a historical I was interested in, but I've been told they kill the gay so I'm OUT.

❣️ I'm gonna have to list Cherry Magic and Cooking Crush again just because they filled me with so much serotonin lol. Truly beautiful productions, so carefully written, so well executed and with so much wholesomeness and so many green flags lol. I had the best time watching them and the fact that 2 OG pairs had comeback shows back to back gave me so much nostalgia lol, especially since the genre is reminiscent of their old shows. It's been a blissful and therapeutic few months and I'm extremely sad that it's over 😩🥺🫶🏻 A+ content from everyone involved. 12/10 for both.

👎🏻 It has been a year lmao a lot of things happened this month, the Pawin situation makes me sad, we don't know what actually happened but the whole thing is messed up either way. James dropping out of LUAT came as a surprise as well, I'm not a NetJames fan but if they really had a falling out like the rumors say then that's sad. Singto coming back to gmm has been a nice surprise amongst the scandals lol but other than that I hope things go uphill after this 🥺

❗️ Actor Singto Prachaya has returned to GMMTV as an artist. He previously left the company in 2021 to work as a freelance actor & producer after being under contract for nearly 5 years. It is unknown whether he will be part of any projects of the 2024 lineup.

❗️ The Thai BL Playboyy is getting a second season.

❗️ The upcoming Korean series High School Return of a Gangster announced the removal of the original BL plot. The show will air as a censored version, focusing on the friendship between the male leads.

❗️ Actors Charles Tu (HIStory 4) and Michael Chang (My Tooth Your Love) were confirmed to star in the upcoming BL First Note of Love. The series tells the story of a musician who is struggling with stage fright and one of his fans. An air date has not been announced.

❗️ Actor Non Ratchanon will no longer partake in the upcoming BL Live in Love. In an official statement, the production company stated that the decision was made due to disagreements between his agency and the one representing his co-star Hearth Chindanai. A recast for his role has yet to be announced.

❗️ GMMTV actor Win Pawin was accused of physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend, who made public allegations with photo evidence of her wounds. As a result GMMTV released a statement announcing the suspension of Pawin from all further work activities until legal investigations are complete. This lead to him making a public statement saying he is withdrawing from the upcoming BL We Are. He was cast as one of the 8 protagonists and was paired with his former partner Marc Pahun. GMMTV released a followup statement today, announcing Pawin's character would be recast to newbie Poon Mitpakdee.

❗️ Actor James Supamongkon announced his withdrawal from the upcoming Domundi BL Love Upon a Time. He released a statement on Twitter, saying he wants to expand his career and focus on other projects as an artist apart from acting. The company stated that Net and the others will stay part of the cast and that a new partner for Net will be cast shortly. This caused a big uproar amongst the fans who have been waiting for the series since it was announced over a year ago. Whether James' dropping out has anything to do with a dispute between him and Net is not confirmed.

Synopsis: Perhaps he was too drunk that night, and although he was called crazy, he was still lucid enough to be convinced that the face of that person was familiar. But what guarantee did Dazai have that his waiter was the killer who had been terrorising the dirty alleys of Yokohama? Pairing: PM!Dazai + Fem!Reader. Genres: suspense, investigation and graphic horror (mentions of body horror). Warnings: The content below features graphically descriptive violence, angst for the most part, hints of a sadistic Dazai bent on ‘yandere’.

It was no mean feat of his to arrive early, but there he was, a small glass with the commonly served round ice cube, his shot of whisky came in a generous amount. For a moment, Osamu wondered if this was a courtesy of the house, but on taking a closer look at the waiter who was serving him this evening, he could only conclude that it was nothing more than inexperience.

The figure was rather small, with a thin face and dark circles visible under his eyes. Osamu wasn't one to rush into things, but in his short assimilation of characteristics he could deduce with some basis that the person was physically ill, which was the reason behind her frail appearance. However, he snapped out of it when Odasaku appeared in the doorway of the bar, pausing for a second, as if absorbing his surroundings, inhaling the scent of alcohol, the dazai's cologne in the air and the wood under his nose. Something familiar. As Odasaku approached, Dazai's interest focused on the man, leaving aside the well-dressed figure who was rummaging through the counter, looking for utensils to dust. The service wasn't very interesting; on the contrary, it was the same as what the old waiter used to do. “Mono, can you serve me another one of these?” Odasaku nodded slightly, with his usual calmness, which was also reciprocated with a chaste nod. Dazai just followed the nameless waiter's movement, light but still restrained, like water swirling around in a bottle, light but still malleable and slippery. He ignored it for the moment. It seemed better than trying to decipher the puzzle with the missing pieces. “Mono… Isn't it?” “What's it like?” Odasaku slowed his steps, his eyes now focused on Osamu, who stared up at the cloudy Yokohama sky with nothing but his one brown eye, brown obscured by the darkness of the night. “That girl, in the bar” To Odasaku, his question seemed timid, but in reality, Osamu just didn't have the words to describe the figure in the bar, the person who had a slight countenance, slippery attitudes and tense movements, as if that body didn't even belong to her. She was in the process of adapting to his own skin. “Do you know her?” “Ah…” Comprehension struck Odasaku, the edge of his gaze left Osamu and he began to appreciate the cityscape, not with admiration, but contentment ”I've only seen it a few times, three I think, it's a mystery even to the owner.” “I didn't know that bars hired minors,” he laughed acidly, purely out of hypocrisy. “I don't think that's the case,” Odasaku shrugged. “Are you saying that Mono is one of those people who has only grown up mentally, but is still minuscule? Like Chuuya…” he meditated with his index finger raised, somewhat bemused. An understanding hum escaped the man, his hands buried in his pockets. “I think her case is a little more complex,” was the only plausible answer he gave Dazai as they walked back down the gloomy alley together.

His strides were a little more lively, but still at a meek pace, perhaps due to the curiosity energizing his cold bones, the mythical mystery making him feel a little more heated, Osamu had a sadism for things he didn't know, perhaps it brought out his investigative side. In any case, Osamu soon sat down, fingering the counter with his long fingers, which tinkled in a soft thud on the wood, like a bird's walk. His silent scandal was more than enough to get Mono's attention. Tec, tec, tec… Tec… “Good evening, how can I…” Mono paused in her words when she noticed the familiar figure, although she hadn't been involved before, she paid attention to the man's silhouette, after all, hardly anyone with Osamu's profile would go unnoticed among people. Mono's gaze fell on Osamu's bandaged eye, as if she was trying to look him in the eye that was missing. Mono's gaze was not the most receptive, it was pleasant for her trade, but anywhere else her gaze would be described as “distant” or “lost”. Osamu felt that he could drown if he delved any deeper into her taciturn eyes, a place, he didn't know where, but as dark as velvet, so dense that it would suffocate him to death. Osamu's pupils dilated. “One dose,” an amused smile stretched across his lips. A moment of silence adorned the air, as if fullness reigned in the hearts of alcoholics, Osamu usually drank more than once a week, so one more dose during a Wednesday would be nothing, perhaps it would help him forget the cut in the palm of his bandaged hand. The gauze had a bloodstain that stretched across his palm, but the blood was dry and hard as cement. If he said it didn't hurt, he'd be blatantly lying to himself. Dazai will need more than a sore hand to satisfy his curiosity. He just needs a few splinters… a few pieces, to get to the treasure. “I've never seen you around here” He intrudes on Mono's thoughts, the shelf where they kept the still-sealed bottles was at the other end of the counter, making her look up from her shoulder ”Forgive me, am I getting in the way?” Osamu knows he is, but he's counting on his obedient dog talk to give him some assistance in prolonging the conversation. “Not at all, sir.” After a few seconds processing the break in the silence, Mono meditated, still oblivious to the conversation. “Sir?” Osamu repeated with disgust, an obvious wrinkle forming at the corner of his nose from the nausea “You see, I'm not that older” he sneered. “So…” With her attention still on the shelves, she meditated with her index finger under her lower lip, evidently distracted “what should I call you?” “Dazai” He said slowly, as if Mono needed to catch every syllable of his valuable name ‘Osamu Dazai, that's what I want you to call me’. For the first time in a while, she turned to look at him, with a bottle of Johnnie Walker in hand, opening it and pouring it into Osamu's glass, making the ice crackle loudly. “As you wish, Mr. Dazai” He nodded without blinking.

#2 day of socializing

“Is that really your name?” Dazai asked casually, like a classmate, before borrowing his materials. Not really caring, just trying to get what he wanted, before returning to his own seat in the classroom. “Hm?” She hummed with her mouth, flipping through the notebook on the counter. This time, Mono had put herself in a customer position, the older barista now being Osamu's waiter, while she, scribbling on the slightly dirty pages with a pen that Dazai had lent her, from the pocket of his overcoat. “Your name,” Dazai repeated. “But… you know my name.” Mono replied, still in his impartial but confused self. One thing Osamu had learned about the girl was that her compliant personality would give him any information he wanted, all he had to do was poke at it until it came out. 'Ah, if only all the enemies of the port mafia were like that…' he thought, almost letting out a weak sigh at the thought. “I know that's your trade name, I want to know the real one” He dispelled the girl's argument. Dazai lowered his eyes to look at the notebook in her hand, now having a clearer view of the text “And it's wrong here, correct it”. “A-ah… Right” Dazai didn't go to school, so he wondered if all students had grammar failures to the point of getting simple elements of spelling wrong. For a moment, he allowed himself to wonder what it was like, although he could say that his interest in going to school was nil, or too small. He couldn't understand the appeal of the environment, the people… It all seemed like such a bored. “Here too” Dazai interrupted the girl's train of thought, pressing his index finger on the flawed words, making her fixate on his commands ‘and… Here’. A brief hum in agreement was what Osamu received, not that he was complaining, it would potentially be harder to tolerate if she questioned his corrections, so for now his loud hum was enough. “Here too” Gently he exhaled the air from his lungs, one elbow resting on the counter and his left arm holding an already empty glass, Osamu squinted his eyes a little "let me see this". “I don't think you need it,” she said, but even reluctantly, she handed the notebook to Osamu, who took it with a light hand, light as a feather ”it's strange to have someone so young teaching me…” She admitted with a little shame in his tone. Osamu ignored his humble confession and focused on the text, and damn, was he surprised. As he read on, the gap between his eyebrows gradually narrowed, it wasn't easy to take him by surprise, but he was honestly shocked by some of the things he read. “Shit, are you sure you're going to school? There's some pretty tense stuff here…” He criticized, not with his usual mockery, but in unpleasant surprise, “You should do some supplementary lessons, if you must know, Miss… [Name]?”. The sound of her name coming from Dazai's bold lips was the trigger for her to take the notebook from his hands, a little resentfully, hugging him as if her life depended on it. Dazai had his long-awaited moment at last. It made him smile slightly. “[Name] Tamagawa… Is that really your name? Well, it must be…” he said to himself, more to himself than to the girl next to him "It's in your notebook, after all". Her name echoed in his head like a loop, as if he were trying to memorize it so he wouldn't forget it. She took a deep breath, a little bent over the counter, either from tiredness or embarrassment. “Yeah, that's my name, actually,” she muttered quietly, receiving an appraising look from Dazai, something in a limbo between curiosity and unfounded contempt, but moreover contained with an almost sick admiration for knowing more and more about his newest bartender.

“Getting somewhere”

Dazai hadn't been to the bar for the last week, it was nice for a change, although he was tired from his occupations within the Port Mafia, he was still typing his report, not far ahead, Chuuya was dipping the fries in the ketchup with little or no mercy, if they were alive they would be crying for help, their throats sore from screaming, while their failing vocal cords were gradually losing their timbre, just like the traitors he… His thoughts dissipated when he noticed the young waitress arriving with a tray, possibly the same age as him, with a single cup of strawberry milk shake. Mr.Mori would be screaming seeing all that extra whipped cream and sugar sprinkled on his cup.

“Sorry it took so long,” she laughed lightly, setting the glass down carefully. “Don't worry about it” A gallant smile swept across her sullen expression, leaving the girl somewhat embarrassed before she left. Chuuya couldn't help rolling her eyes, but refrained from words. “Why the hell am I still here? Don't you think I have better things to do?” Chuuya complained, still devouring the potatoes from his portion, to which Osamu responded with silence and the sound of his mug swirling the sugary drink. “You're a key element in my mission,” he said with a cocky tone, ”no wonder you're doing my security.” “That's ridiculous, you don't even need security,” he grumbled in return. “I'll take that as a compliment” “Far from it!” “Look” He threw some unopened cards in the redhead's direction, with a total lack of care. “Watch where you throw those things!” He snorted nonetheless, picking them up and opening them to see the contents, something that took him by surprise. Had he been a little more sensitive, he feared he would have felt like vomiting. The photographs were nothing more than scenes from horror movies. The bodies of old mafia members tainted like animals, the murders not brutally maniacal in intent, but quick damage to kill them as quickly as possible. Fatal damage, but sloppy nonetheless. “Our killer has just started in the profession” Chuuya scrolled through the photos, looking at them one by one, each scene more distorted than the next. “These must have been high-ranking members, some of them were even Mrs. Kouyo's security guards.” A thoughtful murmur escaped Chuuya. “And what exactly are you planning to prove with that, asshole? All we have are these disgusting photos, there's nothing to give us any clues about our killer.” Chuuya tossed the photos back to Osamu, who let out a murmur of approval. “We've got some additional damage, look closely, there's something on the ground here” He pointed at Chuuya, who noticed well enough to identify a slimy, milky liquid on the walls of the alley in which the photograph was taken, scraps of skin on the ground and traces of dried blood, as if someone had cut open a dead animal with such a violation during the crime scene. “It doesn't make sense, the bodies have without any kind of dismemberment…” Chuuya's fist was under his chin, giving him a thoughtful posture. His countenance held a troubled confusion. “I know,” Dazai confirmed, now giving priority to the cityscape outside the window, the diner overlooked a street of busy cars, and at the end of the street, a hospital with little traffic ”The chief was at the corpse inspections and took some samples of that disgusting stuff on the walls…” “É?” “The genetic material doesn't match any of our agents.” Dazai concluded, with an impassive face, something Chuuya hated more than seeing any arrogant sentiment on the bastard's face, it was seeing nothing, simply the emptiness that left open his innermost, grotesque self. But before she could sink into the emptiness of Dazai's apathetic expression, his countenance began to move again, like a doll haunted by some evil spirit. “Which gives us room for interpretation” “And they would be…?” One of Dazai's fingers went up: “We're dealing with a self-mutilator, but the cause of his actions is still a mystery” another finger went up, forming a V “the second would be that the killer catches them at unassuming and opportune moments, disappearing with the victims' partners and leaving only Mafia agents” “Which would imply that the killer knew the faces of our men,” Chuuya added. “Exactly, that indicates that we may be dealing with a traitor” Dazai mused. Chuuya took on a stern, tense expression. Another finger rose in the air, now making the air a little less breathable for Chuuya, the idea of a third hypothesis making him alarmed. “And the third assumption was made by the boss, I disbelieve it, but there's still a possibility” Chuuya waited in silence for Osamu's revelation, who stared at him with his eyes once again hollow. “We may be dealing with a skill user”

Last week there was a (dumb) discourse on xwitter about Percy's appearence on the tv show. And it makes me mad that there are people hating on the kids actors and being general assholes for all the obvious reasons, but also because it makes it impossible to criticize the show without someone either a) putting you on the same level as these losers or b) agreeing with you but in the wrong way (the forementioned assholes)

But then people defend the cast by making posts like "Walker makes so much sense as Percy, actually, because *checks notes* surfer stereotypes and ocean is blue, Percy should've been blond, blue-eyed boy all along uwu." Which is harmless, I guess, and no sane person should take this as bait to hate on a 15yo boy who's just doing his job, but really? I thought the point was that he embodies the character regardless of what he looks like and thats what matters.

And look, Rick is full of shit, but I believe that these actors were chosen because they really were the best of the bunch. And I can see that, okay? I do. I've watched interviews, how they talk about the books and their characters, I've seen videos and compilations and edits of how they interact. And until the season 1 aired, I believed we were getting a great adaptation. Made me more sad than angry that we got a boring one instead.

So when I say that show!Percy has his personality watered down to maybe 30%, I'm not criticizing Walker. When I say that show!Grover was reduced to a babysitter, that his guilt over Thalia, his goal of finding Pan, and his love for the nature did not translate well I'm not criticizing Aryan. And when I say show!Annabeth was greatly reduced from this lovely gremlin who is emotional, proud, kind, smart and fiercely loving to the Stoic Smart Girl™ and the only emotion she was allowed to show was annoyance and distress, I'm not criticizing Leah. I'm criticizing the writing. Because the show has problems beyond the characters, it has pacing issues, lighting issues, editing issues.

And there is still time to make it good. I have hope for season 2, maybe the writers will listen to criticism, maybe they found their footing, maybe the episodes will be a little longer and we'll have time for suspense and action and funny moments before uncerimoniously cutting to black. Just don't make me settle for a mediocre show when we all know they have all the tools to make it great

How Do F1 Cars Work?: Power, Transmit, Suspend

Alright part 2 everyone. Let's go.

1.Power Units

You have probably heard lots of yammering about power unit components before. Things like 'they took on too many and now have a grid penalty' are common to hear. But what is the power unit, and what does that mean?

So the power unit refers to the engine system that helps power the car. The modern F1 car is a hybrid, a mix between a typical Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and Energy Recover Systems (ERS). The modern F1 ICE is a 1.6 liter V6 turbocharged engine and can rev up to 15,000 RPM. It uses gasoline and generates a majority of the power. I've explained how it works in an older post, but briefly it compresses air and fuel and ignites it to create combustion which generates energy. The turbocharger is a part of the ICE that helps condense air more, in turn forcing the engine to create more energy.

The ERS has two components. The first is Motor Generator Unit-Kinetic (MGU-K), which recovers energy from braking, stores it in the battery (which stores energy from the two units), and can be used as a boost to power. The second is Motor Generator Unit- Heat (MGU-H). This unit recovers heat energy from the turbocharger and converts it to electrical energy. It can either charge the battery directly or assist the ICE.

When teams get in trouble taking too many power units it essentially means they have replaced something like the MGU-H too many times. There is a cap for how many times you can replace a power unit component, but with the addition of more races every year the FIA is under pressure to increase this limit. Almost every single car takes the penalty at some point.

2. Transmission

The transmission is the semi-automatic gear box inside of F1 cars, which for them is 8-speed. It is located at the rear of the car and connects to the power unit. This is a part of the car that is famous for having issues, and often when a drivers car retires it is due to a gear box failure. With paddle shifters located under the steering wheel, drivers can change the gear in which they are driving. Different gears effect the traction, grip, fuel economy, and speed of the car and are used strategically throughout the race. Part of the transmission is the differential. The differential distributes power between the rear wheels when cornering, allowing the inside tire to rotate slower than the outside tire. The final majorly important part of the transmission is the clutch. In F1 the clutch, which is a device that connects the engine and transmission to the car is automated and controlled by electronics. It is usually used when starting the race or leaving the pit lane.

Grip levels, cornering speeds, and straight-line speeds all play a crucial role in gear ratio calculations. The teams have to find the perfect balance between acceleration, top speed, and adaptability. The team’s engineers use advanced simulations and data analysis to calculate the optimal ratios for each gear. They also take into account factors like tire wear and fuel consumption to fine-tune their calculations. All of this information can be gathered from electronic data gatherers inside of the car, running simulations, and also the drivers reporting themselves. Its why radio communication is so important in F1. This decision can make or break a race, and we have seen drivers lose due to an incorrect gear decision.

3. Suspension

The suspension system works to keep the tires in contact with the road and helps absorb the shocks F1 cars experience. This is created through a variety of springs, shock absorbers, sway bars, etc. Without the suspension, the chassis would be experiencing the full extent of the shaking and pressure, which would do damage to the car and be very painful for the driver. Anytime you see a driver shaking like crazy in the car, it usually means there is something off with the suspension. Suspension also allows the force of the bumps and the kinetic energy to be stored by a spring, which is then compressed, absorbing the energy transferred by that bump in the road and allowing all four tires to grip the road. The biggest difference between street car suspension and F1 suspension is that in an F1 car each tire is independently sprung, which means that they move on their own, useful around corners.

In F1 cars they have a pushrod or pullrod suspension. These systems transfer pressure from the wheels to the suspension dampers and springs. In a push-rod system, the rocker arms are placed at the highest point in the car. As such, the rod is under pressure as it transfers compression forces upwards into the rocker arms. In a pull-rod system however, the rocker arms are located between the upper and lower control arms, at the center of the car This means every time it hits a bump or curb, the wheel pulls on the spring which causes the pull-rod to go up and outwards from the chassis. Both are regularly used suspension types.

Teams regularly change how their suspension is functioning, and it is by far one of the most tweaked systems on the car. Truly, a weak suspension can make any car one of the slowest cars on the grid. So next time you hear a. driver complain about how slow they are on the straights, or how much their back hurts, it usually means their suspension is not where it should be.

many thoughts about currently airing QL

i meant to get this done earlier but i blinked and it's almost we are wednesday again. however, i still wanna get some thoughts on page for posterity.

only boo (completed!)

while this show had its imperfections, its triumphs largely outweighed its shortcomings. as a vehicle to showcase seakeen's acting abilities, chemistry, and viability as a cp, you really couldn't have asked for much more. moo is a son of all time, and both he and kang were fully realized characters that were a joy to watch and root for each week.

i think the writing sacrificed some of its side plots to the trope gods—the secondary romance between potae and payos deserved more than endless miscommunication, while shone's reintroduction as an eleventh-hour obstacle was clunky at best. there are also valid criticisms to be made about gmmtv's (in)ability to deliver a substantial in-text critique of the idol industry's stance on dating, and if that had been part of the show's thesis, maybe i'd feel more strongly about it, but it wasn't. it was an obstacle for the relationship between kang and moo, and as a gmmtv romcom, it was never positioned to promise anything more than a happy ending.

was the central storyline strong enough to overcome some of the uneven writing towards the end? to me, yes, absolutely it was. kangmoo was the beating heart of the show, and the script did everything right, up until graduation, to make us buy into not only their individual characterizations and motivations but also the strength of their relationship, the mutual support and adoration and understanding that made their love feel so much fuller. i'm going to miss having seakeen on my screen every sunday and i hope they get the superstar projects they deserve moving forward.

wandee goodday (ep 8 of 12)

this show has kind of entered a mushy middle stage for me. fake dating, as a trope, requires healthy suspension of belief, and the fwb setup is working at odds with that. it's become very evident in the last couple of episodes, where the only way dee and yak can individually keep up their own pretenses (more on dee's side, tbf to yak) is through a deliberate failure of communication, which gets exhausting to watch after a while. i'm glad yak finally confessed his feelings at the end of ep 8; hopefully the show can emerge out of this storytelling slump and end on a strong note.

oye and cher's proposal scene made me emotional, though. it was so sweet and so simple, and although we still don't have too much background on their relationship, it felt very organic to what we know of them, with the imaginary ring and the casual spontaneity of it all.

my stand-in (ep 9 of 12)

i was not expecting this to be my front-runner for show of the year, but it's really hitting on all levels for me: acting (up is always special, and poom has been a revelation), production (cinematography and camerawork are magnificent), and storytelling (smart, elegant adaptation and localization choices for the most part). with 3 episodes left and most of the major secrets revealed, there's plenty of time for groveling, retribution, and tying up loose ends, by which i mean fucking in missionary. no major notes; carry on.

we are (ep 12 of 16)

last week's episode was a bit slow even by this show's own standards, but what i liked about it was getting to see more of phum and fang's home life and how that has shaped their approaches to relationships. a lot of it was implied in the earlier episodes, so seeing it depicted a little more clearly—phum's abandonment issues and current friction with his father, fang's self-imposed perfectionism—introduced some much-needed depth to their characters.

also, unlike dee and yak's infuriating situationship in wandee goodday, i don't mind the undefined limbo that phum and peem have been occupying. this show has shown us that peem struggles with articulating his sense of self, most notably through his art, so it makes sense to me that he would be overly cautious in confirming his own feelings on an intellectual level, despite being able to act on his emotional and physical connection to phum.

i'm a little worried the show isn't leaving enough room to properly develop chainpun as the final couple, but what we haven gotten is delightful. in another universe this is the friends-to-lovers slowburn of my dreams.

knock knock boys (ep 5 of 12)

speaking of delights, this show is so fucking underrated. it has given me everything i wanted from its pilot trailer: the housemate shenanigans and comedic beats are chef's kiss, of course, but there's also a real sense of a camaraderie being built up between the four boys. the acting, also, has been remarkably even; i knew seng and best would bring it, but jaonine and nokia have held their own and really inhabited their roles.

i'm actually really pleased that jane is, in fact, peak's fiancee. the vibes that some of us got from that initial glimpse of their relationship wasn't wrong, though—they treat each other the way siblings do, which is probably indicative of an arrangement between their families. jane is on "i got your location from your dad" terms with peak's father, but she's also on "i'll cover for you and pretend you're not here" terms with peak, even as she's fully committed to invading his space and annoying the snot out of him until he gives in and stops running from his problems. extremely sibling behavior!! there is not a single whiff of romance between the two of them, but they are facing a difficult situation that will need to be resolved before either of them can move on and live their lives.

one thing about this show that i keep thinking about is the significance of thanwa's wardrobe. i clocked in ep 1 that he and his (probable) ex dressed very similarly, and the scene with the two of them in ep 5 just drove that detail home. now that we know thanwa a little better, i wonder if he's the type of person to conform to a lover's aesthetic (consciously or subconsciously). he is a caretaker and a little bit of a pushover, and clothing choice is a way that could manifest. it might not be anything, but i also wouldn't be surprised if we see some of peak's style sneak into thanwa's wardrobe as their romance develops.

there's so much more i could say about this show! the characters are all so fascinating to me, both individually and as a group!!! i'm gonna be late for a movie if i keep typing, though, so i will try to organize further thoughts after this week's episode.

love sea (ep 3 of 10)

as far as mame shows go, this has been unexpectedly enjoyable from the jump. fortpeat are delivering a much different dynamic than their whumpfest from LITA, and if you take out all the smoldering sex scenes, there has been plenty of actual character (and relationship) development through dialogue, which i appreciate. i like that the tension isn't confined to simple class difference; the writing situates mut at the intersection of various regional, economic, and environmental concerns, and that makes him so much more compelling as a foil to tongrak's more conventional slate of bl traumas. i do hope the show continues to maintain those core parts of his characterization as the romance progresses.

I've been re-reading some Grand Princess, in hopes it actually airs in the next couple weeks. Now it seems like maybe this week?!?!

First 46 chapters are english translated, then you must do MTL. This is such an unconventional premise for a romance novel and the tone is just.... the opening chapters flip through through melancholy, wisful, comedy of errors, suspenseful, romantic, bittersweet, hopeful, cynical, and sweet.

'back cover summary':

Li Rong and Pei Wenxuan married at the age of 18.

Li Rong used Pei Wenxuan’s family background to avoid disaster, and Pei Wenxuan used Li Rong’s identity as Princess to establish himself. 

They married for political reasons, without the slightest bit of affection.

Later on, she lost herself in the midst of wine, song and dance. As for him, he had a home yet did not bother coming home because he already had someone in his heart…

Husband and wife for 30 years, yet nothing between them but power.

In the end, it was hardly surprising that someone turned them against each other, leading them to die under each other’s schemes.

However, when they woke up, they had actually returned to the year when they were 18 years old, returning to the most difficult time in their lives.

Can two 50 year old souls, with all those years of baggage & scabbed over wounds, join hands together in friendship... maybe even eventually something else?

I honestly can't imagine the live action adaption will be able to do it justice but I don't need perfection. Just good enough.

The way that they care about each other still, when reborn again for another chance at life - caring despite themselves, in the most unconventional way. It completely disarmed me.

Any new upcoming series with w/w?

Lol, I had a whole answer typed up and almost completed last night, I could only remember a few upcoming shows but added a bunch of ongoing and recent with descriptions and then the post editor hiccuped and removed most of it so I angrily went to sleep instead.

But maybe that was for the best, because this morning a video of upcoming f/f shows in April came out so now I can add a few more.

There's Dead Ringers, that show with Rachel Weisz playing twin gynecologists and since it's a genderbent adaptation of an existing movie we already know it's gonna be super messy. It would be pretty wild for Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies to not have some wlw and luckily it does, the trailer itself reveals a couple. Tiny Beautiful Things, with Kathryn Hahn and Sarah Pidgeon (Leah in The Wilds) playing her younger self, apparently Kathryn Hahn's character's daughter is queer. Slip is a kinda scifi, where a bored wife cheats on her husband and realizes every time she has sex with someone, she wakes up married to them. The show's about her trying to get back to her original life, and there are a series of different husbands, but also a few wives (also, the first "replacement" husband is played by Boorman's actor from Willow!). There are also the upcoming Thai dramas Be Mine, Reverse 4 You, and 23.5, as previously mentioned.

In terms of returning series coming back, there's the Disney cartoon The Owl House, getting its final ep. Single Drunk Female's second season is returning soon. It has a bi lead, and she did have a female love interest but it was pretty temporary compared to the will they/won't she has with the main character male love interest. Her Alcoholics Anonymous sponsor, also a very main character, is a lesbian, and she's married but her wife's actress is a regular on another show now so I dunno if she'll be back.

Welcome to Eden, a Spanish thriller about people trapped on an island with a cult, ended the first season on a major cliffhanger so it'll be exciting to see what happens now, though it feels like anyone could die so that's a bit nerve-wracking. It has a lot of different kinds of rep, f/f, m/m, trans, one of the gay guys is deaf too and it's a plot point that his boyfriend won't learn sign even though his friends have.

The Epix series From is a pretty well done horror series about people trapped in a town and who get hunted at night, it's more ominous and suspenseful than outright gory. It actually has three wlw, though one is mostly with one guy, the one who's engaged to a woman outside the town seems to be about to start a romance with another guy, and one is a teen who's crushing on the first woman, feels unrequited. I didn't know about any of them when I started, so they're a bonus, the show itself is rather compelling.

As for current shows, The Power (lol, get it, current) started last night on Prime, it's nice that after the misreading of Class of '07, this new show about girls does immediately have a wlw. Gap's already finished but it made such a splash, if you haven't watched, I'll mention it again. The other Thai drama, Show Me Love, is still airing. Fantasy Island is honestly kind of sweet, it feels like one of those '90s shows, episodic, bright colors and optimism, and great guest stars. One of the two leads, I'd say, or at least the second billed main, is queer.

We got our three firefighter shows, 9-1-1 with a solid (now) established relationship, Fire Country, a lesbian character but not much screentime, and of course Station 19, which is honestly winning me back in a huge way with their current storyline (if they land it).

Cop wlw update (why are there so many of them!): NCIS Hawai'i remains super cute, especially when Lucy is on, looks like Ayanna on Law & Order: Organized Crime got herself a new gf with a super hot voice, The Rookie: Feds still has Niecy Nash playing a super likable and bi lead. I couldn't stand the egregious copaganda in FBI: Most Wanted, and like, imagine how bad it'd have to be, when I can still watch all the rest of these shows, but Sheryll's still there, so. Sin Huellas (No Traces) has already finished but gets another mention for being as funny as it was, with a cute, hot couple at the center. Rabbit Hole's just started, but the initial antagonist/probable grudging ally's an FBI lady who within the first 10 minutes of the first ep dropped that she had a wife. Van der Valk has started its third season and though I'm gonna keep hoping Lucienne's INCREDIBLY hot ex from 2x03 returns, Lucienne, second billed, is plenty hot by herself. Ariana Guerra, who played the novitiate in Helstrom, has joined the second season of CSI: Vegas. Her character's bi and has a main character boyfriend but he seems like he'll most likely end up with a different character.

I'm not really going through these in any particular order, except combining the above two types, but let me just blow through the rest of the ongoing shows: the Canadian family comedy Run the Burbs has been quite sweet in how it's written the teen daughter, How I Met Your Father comes across as an old fashioned sitcom, except one of the characters is a lesbian. It's kind of fun in its familiarity and low stakes. I didn't expect to be as drawn into The Watchful Eye as I did, the trailer felt quite soapy and it was, at times, but all the nannies were great, and I ended up quite liking the f/f side couple. It's amazing what actual personalities can do. :o A Million Little Things is winding down its final season and Grace Park's character is engaged to Cameron Esposito's character so it feels pretty endgame at this point.

If you didn't watch or stopped watching Carnival Row because the main m/f relationship seemed so especially trite, you maaaay want to give it another look. I'm not nearly caught up with Bel-Air, but in the first season they wrote Ashley's sexuality really well, especially since she's so young. I'm sure you can't have missed my Perry Mason gifsets by now, but I can only reiterate what a great character Della Street is. One of the kids in Gotham Knights is bi (and her brother is trans!) but I'm not sure it's worth getting invested before cancellation. Unless the CW is only going to keep projects involving the Supernatural trio?

At this point, hoping everyone who's into wlw has at least tried Yellowjackets or is aware enough of it to know they don't want to try it. Las Pelotaris 1926 is a Spanish language historical drama about female athletes playing--well, the sport is basque pelota but if you need a reference point, it's like squash or racquetball. If you haven't yet caught up with RWBY, now would be an okay time. Lastly, I've still never watched any of Riverdale or even Choni clips, but its final season has just started and you know, I gotta respect the longevity of whatever they've been doing with them, however up and down they seem to have been, and perhaps this final season will be an up. From what I've seen on SM, they seem to get endgame soulmatey treatment more than any of the other ships and I can respect that.

Aside from the Thai dramas that might air after April and a few of the other shows that ended their seasons in March (or February in Gap's case), all of these have eps airing this month. After this year of cancellations, I think it's worth enjoying what we can, even as we acknowledge how much lead/main character rep and longevity we're losing. :o

About a freelance photographer and heir to a famed Seoul hotel and restaurant business who, following a family death, returns to Thailand and meets a gregarious young barista. Side romances: producer is head-over-heels in love with her YouTubing bestie, and a veterinarian falls in love with the lead character’s impish cousin.

02/10 Egoist - Japan This is about an openly gay but vein and superficial man (Hio) who falls in love with a personal trainer (Ryohei) who is stuck taking care of his sick mother. It’s not BL, it’s gay coming of age and we can’t expect it to end happily. Still, I’ll try to watch it. Japanese movies are notoriously difficult to get ahold of, tho. One of my absolute favorite Japanese actors Hio Miyazawa (from His the movie) has the lead in this movie adaptation of Makoto Takayama’s autobiographical novel Egoist. He’ll be opposite super famous actor Ryohei Suzuki.

02/14 Moments Of Love - Thai (Foremorfilm Production) Trailer Golf Tanwarin (609 Bedtime Story & The Eclipse) directs SmartJames (LeonPhob from Don't Say No).

02/18 Chains of Heart - Thai Trailer Suspense thriller about a forest ranger, smugglers, memory loss, and lost love. Stars Haii (Cirrus in TT2) and Poppy (Porpla in YYY). Adapted from a Y-novel of the same name by TJ Tommy.

02/27 Tin Tam Jai - Thai (MFlow Entertainment on iQIYI) Tin has always been secretly in love with P'Phak son of the neighborhood baker. Producers behind Ai Long Nhai and Coffee Melody so don't expect much.

03/09 Love Syndrome (characters from Unforgotten Night) - Thai trailer Day and It have been together for 2 years. An accident leaves Day seriously injured and It blames himself. Then Day wakes up with amnesia. (stars Frank of FrankDrake) based on a y-novel.

JAPAN 2023 

Our Dining Table AKA Bokura no Shokutaku - Mira Ori's BLOVED manga (especially be me) is getting an adaptation (HOPEFULLY THIS YEAR)! Lonely salaryman (talented cook) gets accidentally adopted by a college kid and his baby brother. They build a family together. This is a sweetly gentle and cozy manga and it will make a GREAT live action piece. I’ve recommended the manga in the past to anyone who likes BLs like Ingredients, To My Star, What Did You Eat Yesterday? and I think we are in for similar gay domesticity to Old Fashion Cupcake with this adaptation YAY!

My Beautiful Man Eternal AKA Utsukushii Kare 2 - trailer I’m very nervous, I think this series stands alone and is perfect as it already is. I’m worried Japan is over egging the pudding. More here.

KOREA 2023

Bump Up Business (OnlyOneOf) - (Idol Romance) Announcement  More gossip. Depicts the tickling love story between a trainee who is about to debut and a celebrity from the same agency. Kpop boy group OnlyOneOf has collectively signed up to be in this idol-based BL. They’ve been auditioning for this since Libido IMHO. You can watch me chronicle their BL MV series in this post. Idol Romance will do sad but can do good kisses (Wish You, Nobleman Ryu, Once Again, Kissable Lips, Poongduck 304, Tasty Florida, Tinted With You). More info here. 

Blueming 2 - likely to air on iQIYI This was one of my favorites from 2022 year (9/10). I’m not thrilled about a 2nd season. It’s the same director as TMS2, and I didn’t like that one all that much. Still, I’m always intersted in where Korea goes when it’s given enough rope to hang itself.

Comfort the Boy - Premiere postponed indefinitely due to actor contract conflict, rated R15+ due to topic & vulgarity. Adaptation of Dongmul's manwha A Shoulder to Cry On, high school set, features a teasing confident gay, and a rich/poor pairing, about homophobia/gossip putting a scholarship in jeopardy. Was to stars idols Jaehan & Yechan BOTH from Kpop group OMEGA X. But given the crisis in management with that group, I think this is unlikely to happen, at least with this pair. 

First Love's User Manual - Korea (Silkwood) Thai BL pair TutorYim to star (?) in this KBL under A-Plan International’s Silkwood (Peach Of Time). No further info, no MDL listing. Could all be rumors. 

Heesu In Class 2 -  Korea's gay version of Sex Education. Heesu’s world revolves around Chanyoung, his best friend and secret crush. Star Struck AKA Starstruck - Korea (Terapin Studio) A boy has had a crush on his childhood friend for a long time. Stars Zuho (Kpop SF9 - noted good egg) opposite rookie actor Kim In Sung, based on a web novel of the same name.

Unintentional Love Story - Ceramic artist Yoon Tae Joon disappears from society, while Ji Won Young is an employee at a large company. Ji Won Young is intent on winning over the heart of Yoon Tae Joon as he's the company chairman's favorite artist. Stars actor Cha Seo Wo and idol Gongchan (maknae of B1A4, welcome to the fray Kpop Gen 2).

Why R U? Korean remake - filming sept 22 Apparently Korea is planning a remake of Why R U? which I find absolutely hilarious. I mean if Korea remakes it, we lose all the sexy and then would we have a story at all. No we would not. It’d be like one of those mesh shopping bags. MaxNat have a  cameo.

A Boss and a Babe GMMTV YouTube (ForceBook) - Chay is a gamer who wants to get big in the e-sports industry. However, his plans are dramatically altered when is made to intern at a company. There his boss Gun has him do some pretty weird errands, confusing Chay about his true intentions. 

Be Mine SuperStar (JaFirst) - Filming started Dec 2022 Third-year film student Punn (Ja) gets an internship on the set of a drama. He’s come there to learn from professionals, but what lights his passion even more than the work is leading man Achi, beloved of the nation. Adapted from the novel “The Superstar and the Puppy on Set” (พี่พระเอกกับเด็กหมาในกอง) by Orpheus, the show has an ensemble cast comprising Ben (2moons2), Bosston (UWMA, Between Us), Jo (War of Y, My Roommate, Make It Right 2), Kokliang and (TharnType, Even Sun).

Be My Favorite AKA You Are My Favorite (GMMTV) YouTube - Adapted from a JittiRain y-novel (2gether) one of those rewrite the past to change the future. Another timeslip? (That’s at least 5 from Thailand in 2022). Trailer features classic tropes: elevator, rooftop assignation, lie on ground. Stars Krist (SOTUS) + Mike Gawin. Who knew Krist would do a BL again? Like seriously? 

Bed Friend (Domundi probably for Viki) - Adapted from a Y-novel (same setting as Middleman’s Love) about Uea (reserved and shy and hates players) and King (a big time flirt) who work in the same office and share a best friend. Despite the fact that they don’t really like each other they end up in bed together. This pair was originally supposed to be just side dishes for Middle Love, but it seems they got their own series. Not sure if this is a lesson learned from Why R U?, a lockdown necessity, a shifting to an En of Love model, or if NetJames did so well in rehearsal they earned their own series. They are crazy beautiful together. I think Domundi will use these two to bring higher heat, just like they did with FighterTutor. This series could be good especially as it is based on a book so hopefully it has PLOT. James was Gui’s best friend in Oxygen and one of my top picks at the time to get his own BL. Net was an established actor prior to BL. I am VERY excited about this pair

City of Stars AKA Fueangnakorn - An actor falls in love with a programmer and the narrative intends to “explore the ramifications of being public figure in the social network era who must endure critics, bullying, and defamation.” Looks like another Lovely Writer / Call It What You Want sort of thing.

Cooking Crush (OffGun) GMMTV YouTube - Prem, Dynamite, and Samsi run a not-so-popular restaurant. With heavy losses, the trio find out about a cooking competition with a huge reward that could help their business. However, preparations go awry, and Prem decides to back out when he meets Ten, a medical student under a heavy stress burden. Ten approaches prem to teach him cooking, and Prem uses this as a scam opportunity to make money. However, as the lessons go on, it isn’t the food that’s hot, but also their faces as they slowly fall for each other. Adapted from the novel “Love Course! เสื้อกาวน์รุกเสื้อกุ๊กรับ” by iJune4S,

Dangerous Romance GMMTV YouTube - Sailom, a poor yet studious student, has worked several odd jobs along with his elder brother to keep his affairs in order. One day, a misunderstanding causes him to hate the school’s bully, Kongkarn. However, fate plays in and Sailom is made Kongkarn’s tutor. As they spend time together, the two realize that the two have a lot in common and their hate could turn into something more beautiful in their hearts. (Wait, didn’t we just watch this?) 

Destiny Seeker - Engineering students in university dorms, Songkram the head of dorm 3, which is where the "strong and athletic" male students are sorted. Aye is the head of dorm 2, the "good looking" male students live. Aye used to be Songkram's tutor and friend, but they fell apart after both of them were chosen to be dorm heads. Aye is actually in love with Songkram, however, he thinks Sonkram has feelings for Mean. What Aye doesn't know, is that he's the one Songkram likes. So, Bad Buddy the second coming. But also v Japanese concept. 

Heart by Heart (Half Toast Production) Trailer 1 Trailer 2 - of the same name, the trailers are GOOD. I’m more excited for this one then I thought I'd be. Has a bit of Tasty Florida, bad boy/good boy, high drama going on. Stars all unknowns but they look like decent actors.

Hidden Agenda (JoongDunk) GMMTV YouTube - Zo, a college freshman whose never been in love, decides to change it by making the college’s popular girl Nita as his girlfriend. However, to woo her, he approaches Joke, Nita’s ex, for dating advice. What he fails to realize is that Joke has had his eyes on him for a long time and uses this opportunity to approach Zo. Will Joke succeed?

Hot Bamee and Yummy Gyogung (9Cats Studio) - stars Nutt Witsarut (Daisy from SCOY) as Gyogung & Boat Yongyut (Tim from My Secret Love) as Bamee.

House of Stars Trailer - an LGBTQ actor falls in love with an actor from another company at first sight.

I Feel You Linger in the Air (Dee Hup for WeTV) - This is a time travel historical romance (1920s) adaption of y-novel by Violet Rain . FROM THAILAND! H I S T O R I C A L ! ! ! Heartbroken architect is transported to the 1930s. Movie from the producers of Lovely Writer.

Last Twilight (JimmySea) GMMTV YouTube - Burdened with heavy debt, Mork, a mechanic, is forced to take a high paying job as a caretaker for Day, a rich heir who suffers from partial blindness after an accident. Day recruits Mork as he realizes the latter does not see him as a disabled person, but rather as co-equals. As they spend time together, the two begin developing feelings for the other. However with Day just having 180 days until he becomes permanently blind, how will the two weather the trials ahead?

Lost in the Woods - Fifa, a high school student preparing to enter university, is given the duty of taking care of his grandma in the province before the school year starts. There he meets Chief Hem, a forest ranger.

Middleman’s Love AKA Middle Love (Domundi for Viki) - Production started. This used to be a JimmyTommy vehicle before the pair split (also prev title Middle Love). Adapted from a Y-novel. Jade works as a graphic designer and has always been stuck in the middle - average. His heart is hardened after a life spent being overlooked because he is not as charming or good looking as the rest of his family or friends. When his office gets a hot new intern, Mai, Jade assumes Mai couldn’t possibly be intersted in him. Instead he believes Mai is after his friend, Uea. Mai, of course, has other ideas. To be directed by Cheewin leads recast as TutorYim (crumbs from Cutie Pie) we likey, good choice.

Make a Wish (WaGa Creative) - Started filming 12/22, stars Fluke Natouch (OhmFluke UWMA etc...) & Judo (The Miracle Of Teddy Bear) in a medical-fantasy. It seems to be a light-hearted romance with a comedic flair. About a doctor who sees ghosts and a deity who resides in a Bodhi tree that earns merits whenever he fulfills a wish. He is shocked to find the doctor can actually see him and decides to help him find the reason for his ghostly ability. Thus begins a chaotic yet romantic journey. Only Friends GMMTV YouTube - Friend Zone but Gay AF. Mew, a final-year university student, has never encountered the pleasures of adult life. SHADOW - It is a teenage-detective series that involves the supernatural, psychology, love, and friendship. Depicts Dan (Singto), the new student in an all-boys Catholic school who's suffering from sleep paralysis where he saw shadows in his dream, & Nine (Fluke), a student who's condemned by his seniors for being gay. Despite Dan being seen by the other students as a freak. Nine fully understood him because he's been dealing with seeing spirits since childhood. The two became close and gossip circulated between them. Dan chooses to be his friend even if Nine falls in love with him. An interesting combination for actors for sure. 

Step By Step (Dee Hup) - age gap office romance between stern boss and sweet subordinate (AKA my catnip) Thailand doesn't have a great track record with office set BL. Thailand’s record with office set BL is terrible. But I LOVE the concept.

Wish Me Luck (Be Brave Entertainment Hub) - About a boss and his temporary employee in an advertising company, based on Bittersweet's y-novel of the same name สุดที่รักษ์. Starring my boy Fiat (Grean Fictions, SOTUS S, My Gear and Your Gown, Triage) who I’ve been waiting to lead a BL for a decade (it feels like) and Na Naphat (KinnPorsche, UWMA). Again, office BL, but gah PLEASE be good. 

Wish You Luck (StudioCommuan) - Sci Fi dystopian BL about a luck-stealer and an optimistic innocent. Stars Tonnam (Dr Sing in Triage) and Title (our beloved baby Nut from the Yearbook) in a tsundere/sunsine survivor story.

Video Killed the Radio Star

If you don't already feel sufficiently alienated from the culture of your generation, consider getting into old time radio. It's pretty easy to do: Radio was mainstream media from the 1930s well into the 1950s, and it hung on for quite a while after it started losing ground to television. There's a huge amount of programming in various genres, and a surprising amount of it survives; there was a cottage industry in OTR cassettes and CDs for many years, a lot of shows can be found in MP3 format without much effort, and some of it pops up regularly on streaming platforms.

The easiest way to get into it is if you're already got a fondness for some older Hollywood star: If they were a movie star between 1930 and 1960, there's a good chance they guest-starred in various radio shows, and they might even have had their own show for a while. For instance, do you like Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall? Around 1950, they had their own syndicated radio adventure series, BOLD VENTURE, which was essentially an extended riff on their characters in the 1944 film version of TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT. Orson Welles, of course, was a big radio star, playing the lead on THE SHADOW in 1937–38 and then bringing his Mercury Theatre company to a number of different one-hour and half-hour radio series. Vincent Price starred for several seasons as Leslie Charteris's Simon Templar on THE SAINT. And almost everyone who was anyone showed up now and again on SUSPENSE or LUX RADIO THEATRE (which produced all-star one-hour adaptations of popular movies). If you're a Superman or Sherlock Holmes fan, the radio versions of those characters are a must — Holmes was a perennial presence on English-language radio for decades.

If you want something more modern, the British kept producing generally high-quality radio dramas in surprising volume until relatively recently, including a range of both adaptations and originals. Unlike American radio, the survival rate for older British programs from the '40s and '50s is poor, but the BBC has continued periodically airing its better material from the '70s through the '00s, a lot of which has been offered on cassette and CD. For instance, there were excellent BBC radio series dramatizing the Wodehouse Jeeves and Wooster stories (with Michael Hordern and Richard Briers); Dorothy L. Sayers' Lord Peter Wimsey series (with Ian Carmichael); and Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot mysteries (with John Moffat), along with standalone plays on programs like SATURDAY-NIGHT THEATRE. The big limitation with British radio dramas is that the number of British radio actors who can do convincing American accents is not high (and is definitely lower than the number who mistakenly think they can), and the availability of American actors who know how to act for radio is clearly even more limited, which can become a grating problem when dramatizing American material.

One of the reasons that listening to older (and/or British) radio shows will contribute to your cultural alienation is that it will make a lot of modern dramatic podcast series and audio dramatizations excruciating, because it will reveal to you how bad a lot of modern audio dramatists and performers are at this once commonplace art. (If you are or are contemplating doing a dramatic podcast or audio drama, please, for the love of dog, make a close study of radio shows created before you were born, and diversify enough to recognize the mediocrity of hacks like Dirk Maggs, who's been stinking up audio drama on two continents for four decades now.)

it hurts. 

not the deep cuts in your arms that burn; the cold air lashes at them as you fly through the trees of the dark forest. trees that feel alive, closing on you as soon as you pass them.

not the sprained ankle that pulses under your weight with every hurried step you take.

not the bruises on your ribs, glaring and purple, peeking from the thin layer of your shirt.

what hurts is running away from her. feeling your throat burn as you try to escape her. hearing her inhumanly quick steps thumping on the forest’s ground, chasing after you, not willing to stop before she gets to you. that is what’s causing you so much pain.

you make the mistake of turning your head. a shiver runs up your back when you catch her uncovered eye glaring at you, iris burning a deep red, so different from what you were used to.

before they took her everything was perfect in its imperfection. joining the rebellion together, fighting for what you believed in —for your lives— getting to sleep beside her on the small and uncomfortable cots scattered around the rebel base. in your shackled existence of tyrannies and dystopian dictators, that was the first taste of freedom you were ever graced with and when they took it away from you, ripping it– her from your hands clawing at the body of your friends struggling to keep you from following the metal soldiers holding her unconscious body, that’s when you died for the first time.  

weeks passed and before today you’d only seen her once. her right eye covered by a black eyepatch, her left void of emotion, a metal patch over her heart, her modified body a shell of what your yunjin used to be. 

you’d watched, hidden behind the tall trees that lined the edge of the forest behind you, holding your breath as she’d made her way through the ruins of what you’d called home. the rebellion headquarters reduced to rubble by bombs during the night, mangled bodies scattered around and white dust of debris still settling in the first light of the day.

heeseung had covered your mouth with his hand to muffle the sobs that had threatened to rip from your throat, dragging you away, deep in the coniferous forest, a trembling eunchae following close behind. 

after a week of running, you’d hoped they’d lost your tracks but the metal clinking echoing through the forest waking you up from a restless sleep had told you otherwise.

now you run again, with all your might, towards your uncertain goal. you can’t even see where you’re going, only following heeseung’s breathless pants in the night as he holds eunchae’s hand tightly in his.

it’s their pained screams as they unexpectedly tumble down a steep slope of leaves, fallen branches, and friable rocks, that make you freeze. 

you hear eunchae cry as the older boy tries to get her to move again, tears in his eyes, shushing the girl who's the key to the rebellion's success with a panicked expression.

the forest becomes eerily quiet. the sound of the night swallowed by the ringing of suspense in your ears.

behind you, the metallic steps of yunjin and the soldiers have ceased, and you turn around slowly; your whole body shuddering from the anticipation of what certainly feels like the end. death by her hands.

under the light of the moon —voyeuristic and cold— that tries to penetrate the layers of pine needles, everything loses its outline. lost the right direction and standing in a pool of black the only thing that’s left for you to do is buy your friends some time. you can already hear eunchae’s heartbroken sobs as she adds you to the list of people —friends, family— that sacrificed their lives for her. you can feel heeseung’s hate, his helpless disappointment as you leave him to reach the finish line alone. but there, in the silence, bloody and tired, you smile at the future that they’ll see if your martyr does its job.

a past you’re not getting back, a future that’s not yours to live. is life loss? will death be a victory? a prize?

the question spoken into the universe gets no answer. you open eyes that you didn't realize were closed and you’re met with red.

she stands immobile, immovable. a breath between you. straight back, head high, hands tense by her sides.

“yunjin…”

silent, she stares at you– past you, and your hands can’t help but find her face. they trace her jaw, her cheeks. you don’t know who you’re trying to ground into reality.

“yunjin, please look at me. it’s me, it’s– it’s Y/N. please, i miss you so much.” so close yet so far away.

she doesn’t answer and your trembling mouth reaches for the corner of her mouth, then for the mole on her nose, for the center of her forehead and the tears flowing freely from your eyes fall on her face.  

“i love you, please. i’m sorry.” for what? “come back to me.” words a whispered sob, just for her to hear.

it hurts. the void in her eyes.

"my baby..."

love is blind hope. hope that she’ll wake up and remember herself and the life she had before they took her. hope that your memory is stronger than any mind prison they put her in.

a single bloody tear slowly makes its way down her left cheek. the last thing you see before her metal hand strikes you. 

you drift to darkness. second death.
