Exploring Unconventional Homes and Artistic Spaces
This House Promises Eternal Life — at a Cost The interior of the Bioscleave House (also known as the Lifespan Extending Villa) located in East Hampton, N.Y., was constructed in 2008 by avant-garde artists Arakawa and Madeline Gins. The house features bumpy floors made from compacted earth and vibrantly colored walls, intentionally designed to create an uncomfortable living experience, all in the…

“As a tribute to the life of Ryan Dunn here’s a collection of lost photographs from 2001. They were shot by Adam Wallacavage in the Little Devil warehouse during the filming of Criminal Mischief. Ryan was a true fan of bmx and he even volunteered to help us film the intro section of the video, which consisted of a few pranks and some “stunt car” work. This was around the time that Jackass was just beginning and even though Ryan wasn’t a television/movie star yet, he already had a star quality about him. That’s what I love about these photographs, that star quality comes through loud and clear. He even made a suit of Xmas lights look cool. It’s sad that star had to burn out just when it was glowing the brightest. I wish I got to a chance to tell him how proud I was of his success and how much I appreciated his support and help with Little Devil. Then again I guess this is my chance. So thank you Ryan. Thanks for the laughs and thanks for making the world a lot of fun while you were here. We’re going to miss you, but you’ll never be forgotten.” -Derek Adams”

This is the Philadelphia Victorian Gothic brownstone of lighting and interior designer Adam Wallacavage.
He started by designing an octopus-themed light for his dining room, but you won’t believe what it evolved into. His home is a fantasy land, you simply must see to believe.
The doorbell is a hint of the whimsy inside.
Adam likes an “unconventional” nautical look, and his home is filled with antiques, art, and taxidermy.
The hallway leads into the kitchen. And, what a kitchen.
It’s cheery, well-lit and has happy yellow & white stripes.
He really likes octopi and their ilk.
There’s so much to see, I don’t know where to begin.
Vacuuming a taxidermized bear in the living room.
Collection of vintage skateboards on display. (His favorite movie is “Skateboard Madness.”)
Working on a sea sculpture and the beautifully finished product.
He has over 2 dozen of his light creations in the house.
Have you ever seen nautical decor done this way?
Look at this bedroom- that has to be the original Murphy bed.
A family room sports a pink wall and pink octopus light to match.
In the lighting studio.
Behind the brownstone is a beautiful garden, where if you look closely, you’ll see the Creature from the Black Lagoon.
There are lamps for sale on his website, (no prices), and I like this one. Isn’t she graceful?

Art in Ad Places will install a new work by a different artist in a payphone kiosk every week this year. Launched yesterday and continuing for 52 weeks, #AiAP will replace advertising in public spaces with art. Each week, the organizers — co-curators Caldwell and writer RJ Rushmore, photographer Luna Park, and videographer Annie Horner — will partner with a new artist. The campaign launched with artist #AdamWallacavage. The work reads as a vintage sepia photo of a pirate ship sailing on stormy seas, but it’s actually a heavily filtered iPhone photo of a small model ship floating on the Jersey Shore. #AdamWallacavage’s work installed in a payphone kiosk in Brooklyn, the first work in the @artinadplaces (image courtesy Art in Ad Places)
