Surrender Your Sons by Adam Sass
I love redrawing old art and recently got reminded of some very old fanarts I drew for this book(you can see them under the cut). The book is still very near and dear to my heart. It was one of the first arcs I had ever gotten and I read it on summer vacation (which always automatically makes books better)! And I also feel like barely anyone knows about this book, so here's an explicit recommendation: If you like action-packed YA thrillers that hit you right in the feels, please pick this up!
I had a ton of fun trying to execute the idea I had for this fanart with a lot more skill and I hope you like it too!

JOMP BPC - Jan 19 - So Friggen’ Funny
Connor’s narration in Surrender Your Sons was so hilarious throughout this fast-paced thriller. definitely kept it from feeling too dire but still gave weight to the emotional parts

Beware the moon! This week, Peaches and Michael unleash the beast in celebration of 1981’s AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON! In addition to discussing the film’s industry changing practical effects, our hosts delve into certain people’s lust for transformation. Joining the conversation is award-winning author Adam Sass, whose lifetime of love for this cult classic has led to a thoughtful queer analysis of its hairy antics. Then, iconic cult artist Skinner stops by to explore the larger function of werewolf symbolism and expression in the world. From wonky porno to savaged bromance, this episode has it all! Go!

The 99 Boyfriends of Micah Summers Review
Tumblr media
The 99 Boyfriends of Micah Summers by Adam Sass - 5/5 - Gay YA RomCom
It was the beautiful cover by Kaitlin Yang that attracted me to The 99 Boyfriends of Micah Summers by Adam Sass. I get drawn in by pretty colors and drawings of characters. Sass describes the cover as "lo-fi", likely referring to the floating Polaroid look. The background is a gradient of purple and black while Micah sits in the foreground in front of pictures of his two love interests. There are a few other elements, but it's not a scene, it's a design. Although the cover had already drawn me in, it was the blurb that got me. I was rooting for Micah before I had even met him.
Micah Summers believes in fairy tales, at least the romance part of them. He uses his anonymous Instagram to post fairytale versions of all of his crushes. Now that there have been 99 of these sketches, he's hoping his next crush will be someone he gets the courage to ask out. When he has a meet-cute with a handsome nerd on the subway, he decides this is boy 100. As the boy has forgotten his designer jacket on the train car, it's up to Micah and his friends to track this boy down, whether it be for love or just to return the jacket. As the summer progresses, Micah learns that there might be some magic in the world, but people are real, not fairytale characters.

Book Review: The 99 Boyfriends of Micah Summers by Adam Sass
What a perfect book to end the year on. This book was a complete 180 from the author's first novel, Surrender Your Sons. (A book which I've read and thoroughly enjoyed). While his debut was a much darker read, this book is a light, fluffy romance full of love and family support, and I'm here for it. Comparing the two books Sass has written, I can tell he has perfected his writing craft. The tone and characters are so different, yet Sass still has his unique voice. As for this book, I loved it from the first page to the end. It was a wonderful romance filled with so many cute moments. I absolutely love how all the parents in this book are so supportive. (Also, how cool was it that Micah, the MC, and his sister both turned out to be gay/lesbian? And their parents still love and accept both of them. Love that). Sure, some of the romance can be a bit cheesy, but I will admit, I'm a sucker for cheesy romance. And having it be gay romance? I'm all aboard the cheese train. I knew from the start that Boy 100, though as great as a couple they were, weren't going to last. I could tell Elliot was the better fit. I still love that Micah and Grant were still a great couple and got along well, but I felt the vibes were better with Elliot. Plus, having Micah get a boyfriend so early meant something would happen with their relationship. It's how stories (and life) go. If you are looking for a read that has a fun MC as a narrator and a light cute romantic read filled with lots of little happy moments, this book is perfect for you. It's also good for mental health because there isn't anything triggering in the book. A great way to relax in a world where almost all the characters are gay. Also, how can you not want to read this book based on the cover alone? It's stunning. I highly recommend this lovely read.
