How do you start?
Where do you even begin?
How do you stop from feeling overwhelmed?
How do you stop from looking at the totality of the situation and feeling like there's just no way?
This sounds like they are deep questions, questions of the universe, questions of great importance... but they're anything but that.
Being Dysgraphic and having a sequencing learning disability means that even little things effect me like this.
For example, I have decided I want to start collecting band pins. It's something I've always wanted to do, I've always been jealous of those with jean jacket/vests covered in patches and pins of their favorite bands.... and so... fuck it, I'll be 41 ... and it's something that will make me happy.
Except... the thought of starting it makes me feel anything BUT happy. It makes me feel overwhelmed and stressed. I immediately break out the onenote and excel and start making lists... and then I have to stop because... this isn't the way it should be, but that's how my mind works.
My problem is, I love so many bands and so many different genres... where do I start? I mean how cool would it be to get a bunch of 80s NewWave/BritPop bands... ABC, Adam and the Ants, The Alarm, Altered Images, Missing Persons, Oingo Boingo, Big Country, The B-52s, Bronski Beat, Depeche Mode, and the Cure! What about goth bands like Bauhaus? Or the classic Punk bands like The Adicts, Adolescents, Agent Orange, Black Flag, Husker Du? Or Post Punk bands like Mission of Burma, Television, or the Bongos? What about 2nd wave Ska? Does anyone else remember the Bodysnatchers?
Then there are the 90s bands, Alternative and Grune from Dinosaur Jr to Sonic Youth, Nirvana and the Afghan Whigs, Blake Babies was awesome, so was Sugar, and the Pixies! Riotgrrrl bands, and punk, the Madchester/BritPop scene, ... sooo soo many.
Aand can't forget the 00's with everyone from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Bloc party, to Metric and UNKLE.
Where do you start... do you group them... do you just stick and go... do you this, do you that... I probably have HUNDREDS of bands I love...
It feels so overwhelming.
