Coriolanus clenched his jaw as he watched you eat from the plate of fruit your maid brought up after you called for tea, hoping that somehow you would just miss the sound of his stomach growling. He had said no, but you insisted because you were hungry. You don't even know what hungry feels like- he's already regretting letting you help him.

"So," You start, covering your mouth as you finish chewing so you could get down to strategy. If you were going to help, you had to go at this wisely. "What is your plan? Lay it out for me. I'll give you my thoughts."

"I talked to Tigris, she agreed that I need to get Lucy Gray to trust me." He tells you. "She said she would want someone here to care about her. That will have to be me."

"Okay." You nod, reaching for another slice of apple on the plate, trying to ignore the way his eyes track the fruit all the way from your plate to your lips. "So, I'm doing a more behind-the-scenes thing. I think that's better, for us and her. I don't want her to be overwhelmed."

"Yeah." Coryo agrees, staring at you. At this point, it's driving you crazy.

"Coryo." You state, pushing the dish across the coffee table in his direction. "Eat. Please."

"No, I couldn't." He tries to politely decline and you raise an eyebrow at him.

"I insist. It was made for two, I can't possibly stomach it all. It would be a shame for it to go to waste." You had laid your cards out just minutes earlier, making it clear you both knew more about each other's home lives than you cared to discuss, but that didn't mean you would torture him with it.

He hesitates before grabbing a slice and taking a few bites, looking past you and out the window. He wouldn't want it to go to waste like you said, after all.

"I won't tell anyone, you know." You say, your tone walking a line between joking and being serious. He'll interpret that in whatever way he chooses, and you're okay with that.

"I should be going, actually." He says, dropping the other half of the apple slice back onto the dish and standing up, smoothing the creases in his slacks.

You stand up as well, making your way to the door and ringing the bell that summons your maid. "I'll walk you out, just give me a second." You explain to him, and by the time you're done your sentence, she is there looking at you expectantly. "Take these leftovers and pack them up for my friend." You tell her, pointing to the mostly full plate. "And pack some of those pastries you made for his family as well, if you don't mind. Oh! And that bread, it will go bad soon if someone doesn't eat it." She just nods silently as you speak, walking past you to take the plate before leaving.

"Thank you." Coriolanus mutters through gritted teeth once your maid is out of earshot.

"Like I said," You smile. "I don't want it to go to waste."

The morning the tributes arrived, Coriolanus was late to class. He had never been late to class, not once, and you would know- because you hadn't either. Not that you were worried, but it was almost the only thing you could think about. It was odd, but he must have gone to greet Lucy Gray. That would be the only thing that made sense.

"Your little excursion is in violation of about five Academy rules, Mister Snow." Dean Highbottom says as the blonde boy walks in, uniform disheveled as he finds his seat across the room from you.

You make eye contact only briefly with him as the Dean goes on about how endangering the life of a student is against the rules, and your friend would be accumulating a demerit over the whole thing.

From what you can gather, he did go see Lucy Gray, which went farther than he intended when he ended up escorting her all the way into the monkey cage at the zoo. To you, that was comically appropriate. To Sejanus, it was a crime. Of course it was, his heart never left District Two. As much as you had your differences, Sejanus was a kind boy. You did like him, only after you got it through your mind that if you were to leave the Capitol, you would always be Capitol at heart. You're pulling on a loose string on the hem of your uniform sleeve, more, more, until you've almost undone the whole length of your wrist. When the thread breaks you want to hit something, for little to no reason, and you bite into your bottom lip.

You don't even know why you're so mad. You have a short fuse and you know that, maybe it's about Coryo. Maybe it's about your sleeve that's now slightly longer on one side.

You're drawn from your thoughts as Clemensia stands up from her seat next to Coryo, addressing Dr. Gaul who, as far as you know, had only been in the room for a minute or so. "Coriolanus and I do all our assignments together, I think it would be fitting for us to write up the proposal together too. I have some good ideas for things to be incorporated into the games along with betting." Your eyes roll so hard at this that it makes your head ache.

"I brought her a rose from Grandma'am's garden and she ate it. She needs food." Coryo tells you, walking alongside you down the hall.

"I'll get something together for her. Would you like to come with me to pick it up and then we can go to the zoo?" You ask, adjusting your shoulder bag as he holds the front door open for you.

"Okay. Are you sure you should come?"

"If you would like me to." You shrug, leading him in the direction of your parent's town car.

He thinks on it for a moment. Does he want you to meet Lucy Gray? You were technically also her mentor, even if you were taking a backseat. It struck him again, harder somehow, when he met her in person how similar she was to you. Besides the distinct accent, every word that came out of her mouth sounded as though it could have been written in a script by you. If you were district, that is. It was hard to wrap his mind around.

"I would." He finally answers, more so on impulse than resulting from his thought process.

You smile, linking your arm around his as you approach the vehicle.

"Then we can drop you at Clem's. if you'd like." You offer bitterly and he just gives a curt nod in response.

After getting your maid to pack some food for Lucy Gray with some extra for the two of you, assuming you would be gone for the evening, you got a ride to the zoo. The atmosphere was exciting, with people and children crowding the bars- this time including a few of your classmates. Sejanus, which you had expected, and Arachne- no doubt there to get attention.

"Lucy Gray!" Coryo called out, summoning the girl toward the two of you as you approached the bars marking the edge of the enclosure.

"Well hello, Coriolanus. You brought a friend, care to introduce us?" She smiles, looking between the two of you. Admittedly, you admire her poise, given the situation. Politeness in front of the cameras was a must- she's doing an exemplary job in humanizing herself.

"Lucy Gray, this is my friend Y/N Y/L/N. Y/N, meet Lucy Gray." He nods between the two of you and you reach through the bars to shake her hand.

"Hello. Pleasure to meet you." You smile at her, which she returns.

"You as well." She nods, clearly impressed as she looks between you and Coryo. You had decided back at your home to not introduce yourself as another mentor, just as a friend, after gushing the reaction to the other tributes thinking Lucy Gray was getting special treatment this morning when her mentor was the only one to show up. "Coriolanus, is Miss Y/L/N here your sweetheart?"

His face flushes red as he shakes his head, refusing to look at you. You laugh, not noticing his change in undertone as you answer for him. "No, no. Just a friend." You explain, digging in your bag for her food, wanting to quickly change the subject. "We brought you this." You hold out the napkin for her, containing a sandwich, a couple of desserts, and some plums.

"Oh wow, thank you!" Lucy Gray smiles, accepting it gratefully. "Hey, Jessup! Come eat." She calls out to the other tribute from her district, who you remember was assigned to Lysistrata Vickers.

He comes over, but doesn't acknowledge either of you as Lucy Gray holds out one of the dessert bars to him. "I'm not hungry."

"It won't do you any good to starve now. You need your energy." Lucy Gray insists, practically shoving it into his hand.

"I hope you like blueberry." You cut in. "It's a blueberry biscuit with pistachio filling. Made fresh this morning- I promise it's good."

He doesn't say anything, taking it and retreating to the rock he was previously sitting on to eat.

"Will you be sharing everything with him?" Coryo asks her quietly as he walks away.

"Why? So I can keep my energy up enough to strangle him? I don't think that will matter much in a few days."

"You can't trust anyone once the games start, so why trust them now?" You reply quietly, scanning over the other tributes, eyes landing on Arachne taunting her tribute. Of course she would- her arrogance never fails to impress you.

"Your friend over there seems just lovely." Lucy Gray says sarcastically, eyes following yours as you watch your classmate.

"Not our friend." You and Coryo respond at the same time.

"She's poison with perfect teeth." He continues and you nod.

"One thing I learned in twelve is that hunger is a weapon." Lucy Gray says. You're not sure what she means, but you nod anyway.

"Here, let's sit." You suggest, changing the subject as you crouch down to lay out a cloth on the ground to place the food on.

As you're laying it out carefully between the bars for Lucy Gray, you can feel Coryo's eyes burning into the backs of your hands. Lucy Gray notices this too, handing him a cookie from the pile.

"No, I couldn't." His default response. "You need it more than me."

"You were staring. Here, we'll share." She insists and he takes it gratefully, breaking off a piece and placing it in his mouth.

"Here..." You mumble, digging through your bag again and pulling out the glass container designated for his dinner. You place it in his lap, not giving him the chance to turn it down. "Packed it just for you."

He takes it off his lap, tensely getting up. "I'll be back in a moment." He tells you both, red uniform disappearing behind the small crowd.

"You can see it too?" Lucy Gray asks you, nibbling on half of a sandwich.

You nod slightly, eyes still trying to track him to see where he went, then landing on him talking to Sejanus who's desperately trying to get his tribute, Marcus, to eat some of the food he brought.

"He's quite sensitive about it." You explain. "I appreciate you being kind to him. No one else knows... I think. Regardless, you are very important to him."

She nods a little bit, watching you watch your friend. "Are you just buttering me up?" She jokes and you shake your head, returning your attention to the girl across from you.

"No, I mean it. It's more than the prize for us." You state. "Him." You quickly correct yourself. "I just want to help however I can, if you need anything else just ask, but I'll bring food every day. Or I'll send it with Coryo."

"Coryo, huh?"

"Well, yes. We've been friends for years."

"I see." Lucy Gray nods, both of you watching him make his way back over. You lift up his container of food and hand it to him before he even has the chance to sit down.

"What about you, Lucy Gray? Any friends back home? Family?" You ask, looking away from him as he sits. You want him to eat, but you know he would loathe you for watching, so you direct all your attention to her.

"I'm an orphan, just like Coryo here." She nods to him and his brows furrow at the nickname coming from someone new. "It's just me and the Covey."

"Covey?" You ask.

"Yeah, they're my family and we perform together. It's how we make our change."

"Well, you are a very talented singer. Jaws were on the floor in the Capitol during your performance." You smile. 

"I'm not one to go quietly, that's all."

"I'm not either." You agree. "I think we'll be fine friends."

Just at that moment, the three of you hear a scream that has you turning your heads as fast as lightning over to the source, catching the end of Arachne getting her throat slit by her tribute. You and Coriolanus are on your feet in seconds, running over to try and help her just as gunfire rings out, taking down her tribute for the crime of her murder.

You pull off your blazer, both you and Coryo using it to try and stop the bleeding, but you could tell it was no use. By the time you look up, the crowd of spectators was completely gone having rushed for the exits during the attack.

Just as you both realize it's no use, and that she's already dead, you're being pulled away by peacekeepers.

"Hey! Let me go right this second!" You shout, trying to pull away.

"You kids have to get out of here." One of them answers blankly.

"I have to get my stuff!" You complain, trying to wiggle out of their strong grip. "You want me to leave my knife over within reach too? Are you stupid?"

They stop, sighing as they let you go. "Thank you." You huff, readjusting your shirt before walking back over to where you were just sitting with Lucy Gray, quickly gathering your things but leaving food for her.

"Lucy Gray, are you alright?" You ask, seeing her lying on the ground a few feet away from the bars now, just getting up.

She just nods, the fear in her eyes starting to cease. 

"You're not shot?" You follow up with, looking over her at the same time she does.

"No, I'm fine. You go." She replies, standing up again and dusting off her dress.

"Thank god. Those idiots are awful shots!" You bite, looking back at the peacekeepers over your shoulder, Coriolanus now nowhere to be seen.

You stand up and pull your bag across your body, walking past them toward the exit as they attempt to guide you in the right direction. "Don't touch me!" You hiss, smacking their hands away.

"Coryo!" You call out, running to catch up with him in the academy hall the next morning. He slows down, glancing over his shoulder and stopping to wait for you.

"Y/N." He states, looking at you expectantly. 

"Shall we go see Lucy Gray today?" You ask, reaching up to tighten your ponytail that had come loose in your jog.

"No." He shakes his head, continuing to walk and you follow after him. 

"What? Why not? She needs us to bring her food, and we have to-"

"I'll discuss the games with her at the planned meeting this afternoon. You won't be going back to the zoo."

"Excuse me?" You ask, grabbing his arm to stop him in his tracks. "I know I'm like, your assistant, or whatever, but you will not tell me what I can and cannot do."

"It's too dangerous. They are dangerous." Coriolanus argues. "I won't have you ending up like Arachne."

He had been up all night writing his proposal for Dr. Gaul. It was the only thing that could get his mind off the death of his classmate, and off of you. What if it had been you? He should have known it was dangerous, it was his fault. It was his idea that the mentors get closer to the tributes and someone was killed. Arachne's blood was on his hands, and he was just relieved that it wasn't yours staining his uniform instead.

"No. No, she died because she was stupid." You whisper, looking around. "She taunted her tribute and handed her a knife, at that point it's natural selection. I am not her. I am smarter."

He stares down at you, scanning over your features as you beg him to let you continue to help. "You need me, Coriolanus. Admit that much to yourself."

"I don't need you," He spits back. "But I like you much better alive. You are the one person in this school I can stand, I won't lose you over something so reckless." He pulls his arm from your grasp and walks off.

You look around, seeing your classmates staring and you roll your eyes. "Take a picture or something." You say to no one in particular, prompting people to avert their eyes.

you've talked before about not liking akurubi i'm curious what it is you don't like about it? since you've said you don't mind the incest is there other things about it you don't like?

The reason I dislike AquRuby as a ship is not because it's incest but because I just think it's kind of boring but the incest is such a hot button topic relating to the ship that that I just end up fated to talk about incest every time anyway LMAO. But honestly, AquRuby being incest is like, 1% of what turns me off about it as a ship - like I've said before, what I dislike about AquRuby isn't that it's incest but that it's bad incest.

It's not that I don't see what people find appealing about it because when you break it down to the broad strokes, I think there IS something really compelling and even romantic about the building blocks of the ship and how long and how intensely Ruby holds onto her feelings of love for Gorou, not just across two decades but two lifetimes. And if you're invested in Ruby as a character, it's natural to want to see that devotion rewarded or more broadly just to see Ruby get a W and to end the series happy. But when I see people going so insanely hard for it and all the people still to this day who are like, frothing and foaming that it was Totally Canon and everything in Oshi no Ko was leading up to their Amazing And Epic Fated Romance of Destined Soulmates i just look at the material for it in the manga and i'm like... this??? this is what you guys are going crazy for???

Because like. I'm gonna be so real and true and honest about this right now: even removed from romance or whatever else, Aqua and Ruby's relationship is shockingly underbaked and underdeveloped, especially in comparison to how loadbearing it ends up being not just for the ending but the series as a whole. Honestly, for such a huge chunk of the series, the twins just barely have a relationship at all; I've said this before, but I originally got into the manga/fandom just after chapter 11 dropped and followed it to the end of Tokyo Blade before I dropped it for a bit and one of the major critiques of the series was always both that Ruby in general was kind of a side character in a series she was supposed to be a co-lead in (people used to call her 'whoby' lmao) and that as a result, Aqua and Ruby do not remotely feel like two people who have spent 16(+) years together, let alone ones who spent that time in the social role of siblings.

Like... it's really funny to me that AquRuby fandom (and tbh, to a degree, the series itself) tries to pretend that omg aqua is suuuuuch a siscon so crazy and overprotective!!! so obsessed with ruby she's all he thinks about!!! because when you pay attention to where Aqua's focus is and what motivates him for most of the series, it really comes off like Ruby is just barely in his thoughts at all LDKJFJKDNKDSM. He's mostly focused on his revenge quest and when we actually DO see him interfering in Ruby's life, this is almost always an offshoot of his Ai related trauma and thus his general flaw of being controlling and manipulative of the people in his life because he's so terrified of what could happen to them if he relaxes his hold for even a second. And even when the series does suddenly start trying to manufacture AquRuby drama, it's all just Ruby doing brocon gooner bits while Aqua just stands there like 🧍‍♂️

Obviously I'm not saying that Aqua, in-universe, does not care about Ruby but from a Doylist perspective, all the intensity and emotional weight of the relationship is massively skewed on Ruby's side of things when the series does finally bother starting to try and flesh things out. This is something @lastthroes pointed out in in the tags of one of my posts and I think they summed it up really well, so I'll just quote them here (tag formatting removed for readability's sake);

yeah i have posted before about how even if you remove the romantic angle the twins just do not have a significant bond. […] doesn't matter if it's a relationship based on familial love or on hatred or on whatever. but it does matter that the bond needs to be meaningful in some way and by the way it was written it just isn't […] aquruby got so popular esp after the kiss but it's… when i see art from jp artists and stuff i find them nice but it gives me the same impression that some of the manga covers with them together always gave me that impression of 'this is good but they just don't have this kind of relationship'. akasaka tries so hard to convince you that goro is obsessed with sarina when aqua ignores ruby's existence for most of the story. that fucking page at the end of their past moments together doesn't even address their relationship after aqua reveals ai's secret because akasaka built them up as drifting apart after the reveal and never made an effort to fix that before making that ending

So like... all the above is ALREADY a problem when it comes to the twins' relationship even in a purely platonic/familial context and that issue only magnifies when you try to build a romance on top of it. If the foundation of their basic dynamic is already shaky then attempting to layer romantic tension onto it just falls flat because. What bond even is there to get invested in?

It especially doesn't help that Ruby is flanderized SOOOOOO badly in relation to her feelings for Gorou/Aqua post 123. It's not that she has nothing else going on with her character, but whenever Aqua enters the picture, she immediately becomes a pancake thin version of herself propelled entirely by this brand new and poorly motivated obsession with her brother. If OnK actually used the page time spent on the AquRuby drama actually fleshing out or examining Ruby's feelings or at least taking them remotely seriously then that would at least be additive characterization to chew on, but in practice all it does is do the same "lol look at ruby cooming all over herself bc she made eye contact with aqua" joke over and over and over again.

The result is that even though the story wants us to believe the twins are now more invested in each other than ever because of the underlying emotions of Gorou and Sarina's connection bleeding into their sibling relationship, their relationship feels flatter than any other point in the story because they have so few moments together that, once again, aren't just Ruby creaming her pants while Aqua just stands there.

The fact that Ruby has this degree of obsession with Aqua (inherited from Gorou) also really falls flat for me. This is an issue that starts as early as the Private Arc and isn't so much an issue with post-123 AquRuby but this degree of fixation on Gorou that the story kind of retcons her into having kind of... doesn't really make a ton of sense for her?

Back when the manga was still ongoing and I expected us to get more out of Ruby's brocon brainworms than the nothing we got, I just kind of accepted it with a sense of "oh yeah sure, if Ruby was this fixated on Gorou of course she'd end up being a little freak about Aqua" but the more I think about it, the more I'm like... ok, well, WHY is she still so fixated on Gorou? It would be one thing if this was just Ruby continuing to love and value him as a person who made her, in turn, feel loved and valued when she had nobody else in the world but the Private arc onwards makes it seem like Gorou is basically the bedrock of Ruby's emotional and mental stability, to the point of him being more important to her than Ai, her literal mother.

Again - I totally understand Ruby still having fond memories of Gorou and maybe even being drawn back to seeing him again, just as she is with Sarina's family. But at the point in the story that Aqua reveals himself to her, Ruby has a massive support network of people, some of whom have stepped up and supported her in the worst and most turbulent moments of her life. Why have none of these people achieved a level of importance to her that she seems to exclusively afford to a man she knew for a few months max nearly 20 years ago? The story just seems to expect us to take for granted that Ruby feels this way based purely on her backstory as Sarina without actually sewing up the internal and emotional logic of why she's white knuckle gripping this obsession so deep into her new life.

in general, I feel like AquRuby as a ship relies too heavily on the context of Gorou and Sarina's relationship to give it foundation and legitimacy, rather than establishing a unique and compelling romance between Aqua and Ruby as they are now. This would be a problem regardless of how good or bad the writing supporting Gorou and Sarina's relationship was but unfortunately, GRSR is itself made similarly shallow by the narrative's failure to do much of anything with it.

This wasn't something I really became actively conscious of until I read Spica and saw the Wow It's Fucking Nothing that was done with their relationship in it, but even in the main manga there are multiple attempts to make Gorou and Sarina's relationship more meaningful and emotionally impactful to the reader that (imo) end up falling flat because the story seems deathly afraid of adding any real nuance or depth to the bond they supposedly have. I actually feel like Gorou and Sarina's relationship was at its best in chapter 1 - that little snippet of their dynamic said so much with so little and I really felt like I could see the entire relationship surrounding it between the gaps left by what isn't said.

By contrast, I feel like the rest of the series gets increasingly diminished returns every time it tries to mine your emotional investment in it because it's so uninterested in doing anything beyond banging out the same old beats of 'sarina is sad, gorou does a nice thing, yey sensei kekkon shite''. As a result, I might understand why Sarina feels so attached to Gorou, but we never get any idea of why Gorou felt so strongly about Sarina, outside of the basic presumed sympathy and righteous indignation that any good person would feel for Sarina's situation. There's no exploration of what about Sarina (and therefore Ruby) as an actual person removed from her tragedy inspires in Gorou, so the fervent attachment the story again tries to insist that he has to her is hard to invest yourself in as a reader, because the story fails to ground those emotions in anything. So again, we have a relationship where all the intensity and emotional weight of the relationship is massively skewed away from Gorou/Aqua and we thus fail to get any exploration of his interiority as a result.

Current Plans + Musings

I don't plan on playing Exedra to the degree I did for Magia Record, or playing it at all. Because of that, I won't be taking an active role in the community and archiving anything for it. Of course, if Exedra has like amazing gameplay and stories then this is all subject to change, but for now I think I'm done with phone games.

The two youtube channels will stay up and I'll check em periodically to make sure there aren't copyright strikes against the content. I've saved all my raw files, especially for the battle animations, so I can remake them in the future if the music ever becomes a problem for some reason.

Google Drive will stay up until Google rots away. I haven't recorded footage in a long time (as in stories, I do for the character doppels and such), but I'll upload things if they're sent to me.

Magia Union Translations still plans on translating things and making videos, especially leading up to the end, but also for after the game is over for whatever wasn't made in time. I'm not sure what form this will take in the future-- if it'll be manual captions added to the videos or not, but I know it WILL happen.

As for this blog, I'm not going to delete it or anything. However I'm going to be taking a step back. I'd like to say that I'll do liveblogs but I mean... *gestures at blog* I've been saying that for years and the only one I really did successfully was the Oriko one lmao. Ahhh oh well.

I'll have more words later, but it was really fun to be part of a fandom experience like this. I'm excited to work on my own original story projects though and quiet down a bit.

When I started this blog, I never expected it to have people actually read it. Or look at it. I just wanted a place to gush about how much fun I was having. I didn't even want to tag the posts with "Magia Record" at first because I was terrified people would be mean at me, haha.

But I'm glad I did. I made so many good friends through this game. I'm glad it existed. And it made me happy to have a place where people cared about what I had to say. Some folks actually got their news from here, can you imagine that? They had notifications turned on for this blog. My god.

Anyways, I'm going to be here for the next two months, and tomorrow I'll start reblogging fan projects and initiatives, plus general news. Maybe this blog will turn into a dumping site for art and fanfic reblogs, who knows. I might watch the remaining stuff and add various thoughts here and there.

Otherwise, you can find me on my main blog @malignmuffin, which only reblogs stuff (I don't talk much if at all there). I have another tumblr blog for my comic, but I think I'll reshare the name once I actually have content you can look at on it. It's pretty bare bones for the moment.

Actually it'll be funny if the end of this game is what makes me finally work on it again. I was in the process of working on it when NA came out, and it totally derailed me. Stopped writing, drawing, just focused on this silly little phone game. Now it's like those five years have gone by and I'm going back to where I started, except I think my lil comic is going to be a bit better than it was before. If I actually make it, that is.

(I could totally make a list of every fandom I've been in, chronologically, in case i ever want to expose myself LMAO. Not today, though it has crossed my mind.) I can share what I have, though it might veer into "here are all my favourite books."

Crossing the obvious out the way, I'm a huge Rick Riordan fan (tag is #riordanverse for all his works). This actually has a huge sentimental aspect, because in a way Percy Jackson has formed so so much of who I am, how I perceive the world, and like... made me a reader?

I was a huge math kid in elementary school, big into STEM and math and history. And I struggled with reading. Quite a bit. Just didn't have the attention span or interest. I was never behind, but I didn't care for it. Which is a problem when your mother writes books for a living. Joking, mostly, that wasn't why - she just wanted me to read.

Barring a brief H*rry P*tter stint (read over the summer before fourth grade) that failed to indoctrinate me into being a bookworm, it was actually Percy Jackson and the Olympians that hooked me in. Because something about a neurodivergent kid in a big city with an abusive parental figure being told he's special because he is different? Oh idk something hit there. I found a lot of comfort in imagining one of my parents was a god and there was a delightful freedom in that, thinking there was something more. One day I'll do my PJO road trip. (Shoutout to Annabeth for my interest in architecture. Which I am looking to minor in.)

PJO just... lit a fire. I tore through the series. The Kane Chronicles. Waited for the Heroes of Olympus books - the first series I followed the release of. And, it was my introduction to the internet. To fandom. I discovered fanfiction, fan forums, etc. Like... it opened this whole world to me of people just as bizarre and attached to this thing I'd folded into my very being. There was a sense of community and belonging. You could be corny and say I found my own Camp Half-Blood.

(A lot to say about Nico di Angelo and Alex Fierro and what they taught me about sexuality and diversity. This won't be a Rick Riordan post, I promise, but god its so significant for kids to get exposure to neurodivergency and the turbulence of adolescence and queerness and tense family relationships and learn to exist with and in spite of the worlds obstacles.)

This whole spiel is to say that the riordanverse is to this day my longest standing fandom. And it really informed all my other courses within fan spaces, and that's the most prevailing. I genuinely thank Rick Riordan for making me the biggest bookworm in every room I was in, because after PJO it was like a switch flipped and I could. not. read. enough.

(You didn't ask for this, but god I cannot stress how important PJO is to me. The safety the love the comfort it brought to me in a very traumatic part of my life. I will always always always adore this franchise. as flawed as it is.) I have a shelf dedicated specifically to all his books.

Alright, here's the actual answer to everything you asked for (sorry for the whole... whatever that was). Here's some of the book fandoms I've been/am in:

Hunger Games. Huge huge huge dystopia fan, actually. I'm a known Orwell fan (1984 specifically), I adore The Giver, Parable of the Sower, Future Home of the Living God, etc. Hunger Games was the start. The s-tier in my dystopia tier list. Joanna Mason my beloved. The amount of discussion I wish I could have about this franchise. Suzanne Collins I respect the fuck out of you. I honestly think THG taught me to actually engage with the text and decipher the underlying messaging, to connect it to real life. Reading Sunrise on the Reaping now, actually.

The Maze Runner. I could go into this, but I've yapped enough. Maze Runner books BANG. Also have a lot of sentiment attached to this series, involving my adoptive father and audiobooks. Stayed for Minho, tbh. Recently reread the series and it still bangs.

Dystopia in general. My biggest guilty pleasure is trashy dystopia dramas lmao. I won't list them all. No, I didn't like Divergent and I never finished it. Thought it was an autism metaphor. It was not. Bye bye!

Heartstopper/Osemanverse. Read the webtoon, then the entire novel series. My favourite is probably Radio Silence. This series is such a safe space for me.

Howl's Moving Castle/Dianne Wynn Jones books in general. HMC book BANGS. Howl most gender of all time. Would love to talk about how Miyazaki and Jones were so fucking smart in how he interpreted the books, imo. Also, shoutout to the sequels Castle In the Air and House of Many Ways. I still need a copy of House of Many Ways after my dad tore it to shreds in front of me. But yeah, those books bang, too.

Adam Silvera's books in general. Shoutout to the mess that was They Both Die At the End. Fuck that book.

The Naturals. No one talks about this series. Read it at my nana's house on accident. Genuinely really fun series???? (I love crime.)

Song of Achilles/Circe. Putting those two together. I preferred Circe, but I think SoA is just a classic for sad gay people.

39 Clues. These are my ROOTS. too bad the books kind of sucked. But damn was I *into* them.

Anne of Green Gables. I am such a fan of these books. First book that made me cry! I actually played Anne in a stage adaptation I wrote for my theatre final. I was fantastic, btw, because I too am an autistic yapper and just played myself. God these books. Anne With An E really roped me back in, and now the anime!?@?@?@?

Tamora Pierce books in general. Especially the Alanna Series. Tortall and Other Lands is in my top five books of all time, and it inspired my own short story collection. Her world building is fantastic.

Heaven Officials Blessing. Enough said. Oh these mlm lesbians make me feral.

Jacky Faber books by LA Meyer. Omg? I can't believe I don't talk about that series more. I cried when my mom said I wouldn't pass for a boy after reading these books. Fun fucking girl pirate series.

IRON WIDOW/HEAVENLY TYRANT. MY FAVOURITE POLY GIRLFAILURE.

OMFG HIS DARK MATERIALS. God these books make me FERAL. I think about this series once a month. It's influenced my writing so much and made me critical of religion <3 One of my favourite series EVER.

Greek Mythology counts, right? Right.

Skyward by Brandon Sanderson. Those books are great. I love angry sci fi women.

Eon/Eona by Allison Goodman. It's aged horribly, btw. But I loved it was a kid. The magic system is fucking sick. I wish people knew about this book lmao.

Gather the Daughters by Jennie Melamed. This book is fucking insane. Wow. Such a phenomenal piece of work. I think the prose rewrote my brain chemistry. Most book of all time.

Wilder Girls by Rory Power. Ugh this book. Definition of messy lesbiansssss.

All That's Left In the World by Erik J Brown. God this book deserved it's place to shine *sobs*

Okay,this is not a definitive list. But it's the ones I have copies of, which means I like them enough to get copies of. It's not every book in my personal library, but according to my organization system they're my favourites.

To answer your second question, (which is technically part of your first) I have read RWRB! I liked it quite a bit! I've also read One Last Stop, which I (personally) enjoyed in a different but equal way. I highly recommend One Last Stop. It's so fascinating wtf. I read RWRB during pride of... I think it was 2021? I set a goal to read one queer book for every day of pride month! Some winners, some duds. I kept the ones I genuinely adored, and I cannot recommend some of them enough.

Some book series I've been meaning to read (because my mutuals are very persuasive and I want to like what people I care about like and know why they like it). I've been on a huge nonfiction kick, but I'm breaking out of it and here's what's up next:

Vicious by V.E. Schwab. (I've read her ghost adventure series and loved it.)

Silly, that last ask of mine wasn't something big, just me yapping about Vee's and Dandy's relationship because their interaction is so underrated I actually wanna cry. Aand, I was thinking about the way Sprout found out about Vee's ability to eat, and actually got something in mind. It was something ordinary, but a little bit too sudden for the both of them. Like, imagine Sprout casually going to check up on Vee or ask some stuff, just to open the door and find the girl curled in the corner, quietly munching whatever chocolate bar Veronica had brought for her. Sprout was shocked, as well as Vee herself, because she wasn't expecting a visitor, lol. At first, Sprout would ask absolutely dumbass questions like "WHAT?? YOU can EAT??" Like he didn't just saw it himself. But then Vee would shamefully ask him to lock the door so she could tell him about her situation. They would sit in that corner for an hour, and in the end Vee would say something like "just please, don't tell anybody, let this be our secret?" Because she's too scared that Delilah is going to find out and have a reallyyy long "conversation" with her. And Sprout, as the sweetest, caring bun he is, would absolutely promise her to keep this between them. More over, he will sneak her food, just like you said. I hope this isn't too much raahhh👂I could yap about this au forever /silly

Honestly though, you're pretty on point. He'd be just minding his own business and one day just, walk on in because he's giving her something or returning something from her after a gameshow (they've always been buddies, they have permission to waltz into the other's room whenever as long as the door isn't locked - Shelly was the same exact way with them as well) and he just finds her there, munching away.

Yeah sure he'd be shocked and confused, but hey, that's his bestie, and if his lesbian best friend needs to eat SHE IS EATING GOD DAMMIT! He is still VERY overprotective of his friends, just... A lot less overbearing about it. If he's caught- "oh don't worry, it's for Veronica, Veri gets hungry sometimes!" He'd say, and she would just agree, because Veronica is a queen and a girl boss and we love her

In the end I think the only two toons that would genuinely know about it are Shelly (that's her wife, Shelly knows more about Vee than Vee knows Vee tbh) and Sprout. Cosmo would be suspicious, though I doubt anyone would blame him for it, as suddenly there's now food going to Vee's room too, but I don't think he'd know fully until after Shanon lets him come over and she's like "I love those cookies you used to make!" and he's like "Thanks Vee- WAIT WHAT?!"

In the end, the survivors of the ichor will all know about it, and I'm sure the handlers would know about it too, but through nugget theft and curious Vee shenanigans. Oh she'd absolutely go insane for Waffle Sundays... There's a reason Vee always gets zoomies after waffles (she loves them too much for her own good)

I feel like this is also a curse at times but I would probably say my kindness. I treat everyone I meet with the same respect and kindness as anyone else. No matter what they look like, if they speak a language I understand or not. I've been told by customers that they love how friendly I was to them. But I feel like it also gets me hurt a lot so there's that.

My constant need for reassurance. I am fully aware how irrational it can be at times. Logically I know that my closest friends love me but one slight inconvenience or change in tone and I'll feel like they hate me/are avoiding me or whatever and I absolutely HATE that about me and my stupid brain

Gonna steal this one from you @clawbehavior because it's such a simple but life changing thing. Zero foot pain. I used to think that I just needed to get used to standing all day again after spending all of university sitting at desks. But here I am, one year into working in retail and my feet still hurt like hell at the end of each shift

22. If you could travel in time, who would you want to meet?

I'd visit my grandpa before he died and tell him how much I love him. I'm pretty sure he knew that but I hadn't seen him in like a year when he passed away. He was home alone while my grandma was in hospital when it happened and I just hate that.

i get what you mean but some of us actual enjoy the game and genuinely don't have the same issues as you with bugs. Yeah there are issues. But it's still a fun game. Pissing on the people who enjoy it and are happy to pay for it isn't going to make the game better. Especially since the last few packs have been really good? Like...

EA has never cared about customer enjoyment. If the majority of people pirate the game, they aren't going to change anything about it, they'll just shelve it.

I don't wanna start a whole debate on this, so I'll answer this one ask and that's it.

First, yes, I fully understand that there are a ton of people who very much enjoy playing the game. But I want you to consider this... If someone has bought all the expansions, all the packs, all the kits... they've spent over 1 200,00$.... The sims is a great game, but it is not a game worth that much money. Or at the very least... it shouldn't be. This should be an unacceptable price tag. If the basegame came out with all the available content that exists for the sims 4, but at that price... who the fuck would buy that.

Being scared that the game will be shelved, that they won't ever make another game ever again... You're just saying, eh, this kinda sucks but I'm absolutely powerless to do anything about this, so I don't care, I'll keep participating in this vicious cycle.

It's not true though. You aren't powerless. Because EA knows they can make money out of the sims franchise for a loooong time still. And they've invested a shit ton into it. They won't give up on it that easily. If people stop buying while saying: I'm not buying because you're charging too much. Or, I'm not buying because this content isn't polished enough, or whatever else people have as valid complaints... Then yes, if enough people did that, I believe it would change EA's business strategy. They would try to make a thing so good people can't resist buying it, instead of just making trailers that seem great, but with a product that ends up not nearly as polished and well-thought-out as advertised. I don't know if you've watched people reviewing the latest expansions, but even on a technical level, no one's been impressed. Yet people still buy, so of course EA won't change their strategy.

Big companies like EA want to make you believe that there's nothing you can do even though YOU'RE THE CUSTOMER, it's YOUR money, and you DESERVE a product worth that hard-earned money. Same way companies never want their employees to unionize, and the government wants you to think it's normal not to have free healthcare. (though i'm canadian so it's, you know, a different problem here concerning healthcare)

Anyway, I'm rambling and my socialism is showing lmao. But tbh, this is a very moot point, because me making this post is never ever in a million years gonna make a DENT in EA's pocket. You are majorly overestimating my influence.

If you wanna keep giving your money to EA, just do it man. I certainly can't stop you.

Ehehe what a question :) I'll answer this for iterator ships! I do have favorite slugcat ships as well but those will come with my slugcat design post.

I have two favorites actually, that would be trafficlight and lilypad! Both of which are present with my version of the iterators.

Trafficlight is appealing to me in a way I haven't really found a way to articulate ahah. I just think Hara and Suns' personalities provide excellent contrast, I always am a sucker for the charismatic bold type and shy nervous type falling for each other. With the added layers of Suns making mistakes at times and Hara having the guts to tell them how it is.

With how I portray trafficlight, they realize their feelings at the exact same time but have absolutely opposite responses. Hara accepts it and begins to watch if Suns feels the same, while Suns is absolutely petrified AAHAH.

My version of Suns is quite cynical and tends to overthink, they also feel obligated to not go against the ancient's wishes lest something terrible happen (at least they think something might). They feel if they were to love Hara they would become tethered to life, which obviously they aren't supposed to be. So they fear angering the ancients spirits or whatever.

They are also aware they are absolutely head over heels for Hara, and they also fear loving him too much- Like they won't know how to move on when something bad inevitably happens.

Meanwhile, Hara has none of this existential dread LMAO. He doesn't care what the ancients think, and he has accepted they will all meet an end at some point, so they might as well enjoy things while it lasts. It takes Suns time to calm their anxieties, but they do eventually.

My version of Lilypad, meanwhile, is queerplatonic! That's why I kind of struggle tagging it as specifically lilypad- But y'know AHHWFUIIHFW. I will probably in the future though just with the addition of queerplatonic tags :) I'm still a bit new at this Tumblr buidness

But mine at least, they have an incredibly intimate friendship, they love each other very much, they know each other better then anyone else, they are besties 5 ever

If Suns is Hara's romantic soulmate, Moon is Hara's platonic soulmate. They are the oldest in their local group so they have a very particular "old friend" dynamic, something they call each other frequently. They're just a couple of geezers, they've always been a constant for each other through thick and thin.

oh, dear anon. this is a very very big question and i'm honored you think i am capable of providing an answer that does it justice!! i don't consider myself an oikawa expert by far, but i'll do my best because he's still very beloved to me, and i hope whatever i say helps!

(but also - maybe take what i say with a grain of salt LMAO)

anyways, to get the main point out of the way: i completely agree that oikawa isn't arrogant! i actually haven't seen any commentary about that myself (bless!!!), so i can't say for sure why some people might think that, but my guess is that they think his pridefulness = arrogance — they think that the confidence he has in himself and seijoh contributes nothing to their actual power and is utterly meaningless if they don't win, especially in the face of ushijima. which, like, come on. what kind of captain would he be if he wasn't confident in himself and his teammates? is he supposed to tell them that they're going to lose??? is he supposed to discourage their hard work and effort???

or maybe it's because oikawa acts like he's all that, but doesn't have anything to show for it. who does he think he is? what does he think his pride is worth? what right does he have to go around making grand declarations when he has nothing to his name?

(which isn't entirely true, either, but we'll get into that, promise.)

now, do i think that he can, occasionally, be flippant, shallow, and/or petty? yeah, sure. he's got one hell of a personality about it. even iwaizumi says as much. oikawa is great at being a little shit. it's one of my favorite things about him!

but is oikawa genuinely arrogant, or self-centered? well . . . i don't think so.

see, here's the thing about oikawa: he knows he's good, but he doesn't think he's good enough. i think it'd be easiest to really explain what that meant if we broke this down into two separate parts, so let's give it a go, shall we?

(buckle up, friends, because it's about to get LONG. also: TIMESKIP SPOILERS!! and there's a tldr at the start of the tags because. WOW.)

so, first things first: if people are calling oikawa arrogant, then i'm like 99% sure that they don't actually know what the word "arrogant" means.

"arrogant" is used to describe someone full of themselves. it's used to describe someone conceited and pompous. it's used to describe someone so assured of and invested in their self-importance that they don't care for other people, and if it seems like they do, then it's usually wildly off the mark and still serves to inflate their own egos.

oikawa has never once been like that. he's been pretty much the exact opposite, in fact.

and yeah, sure, by his third year of high school, he knows he's good at volleyball, and that's fine! it's perfectly all right to claim you're good at something if you have the skills/experience to back it up. confidence is healthy as long as it isn't in overabundance, and we actually see a lot of this throughout the series!

(not to mention that this was where ushijima fell short. he was overflowing with confidence. he did not believe, for even a single second, that hinata shouyou and his meager, scrappy little flock of crows could beat him.

but oikawa? he knew. he knew what it looked like to make something bloom.)

the key to oikawa's confidence that made him better was that he could pinpoint others' strengths and weaknesses just as well as he could with his own. and (bear with me, please, i might get kind of boring here bc it's nothing that hasn't been said in the manga before) i don't mean it in the way we see the coaches or more analytical players do, as observations to be taken advantage of by everyone else; i mean that in the sense of how vital it is to his position as a setter. that was always the biggest difference between oikawa and kageyama: no matter how much more raw talent kageyama had, no matter how much better oikawa believed him to be, kageyama, especially in the beginning, struggled to do what oikawa could with a team. kageyama struggled to bring out the best in each player. and it wasn't because he didn't know how -- oikawa freely admitted that kageyama had the skill for it, that kageyama, once he got his shit together, could win against him -- it was because kageyama didn't have that same confidence in himself.

(not until much later, anyways. but that's another story, for another time.)

so, oikawa's confident. he knows he's good. he can bring out the best in each player. he's got a killer serve (and a killer smile!), a mind for tactics that borders on machievallianism, and cherishes the trust he is given like it's something precious. his coaches let him lead without leaning on them. his team has the utmost respect and admiration for him. he has a reputation. from karasuno to shiratorizawa to the whole of miyagi -- there is not a single character who knows oikawa tooru and would believe that he is, in any way, bad at volleyball.

but it's not enough. despite all of that, oikawa still doesn't think he's good enough. and that, friends, brings us to the second point.

oikawa tooru is nothing if not passionate.

so were the others, of course. kageyama kept going after his grandfather's death. hinata kept going while being a nobody from nowhere with no one to back him up. atsumu kept going while osamu didn't. it's not even about just those who went pro -- kenma, kuroo, noya, and everyone else found things that they were passionate about and kept going with it. the entire story revolves around loving what you do and trying to keep that love alive, and, sometimes, that can be really, really difficult when it seems like it doesn't love you back.

oikawa was so insecure over kageyama to the point where he nearly decked the poor kid. oikawa got crushed by ushijima-- who kept telling him that his team was not good enough, that his choices were not good enough, that there was nothing good enough to be proud of -- for years in a row. oikawa was taught that there would always be someone better than him no matter how skilled he was, but if he let that stop him then he didn't fucking belong on the court in the first place.

oikawa tooru is intimately acquainted with not being good enough, but he keeps trying to be. he keeps going. he tries to keep the love alive even if he's not loved back. he pushes and practices and takes a plane far from home to become even better. even if he doesn't have the skill, even if he doesn't have the talent, even if he doesn't have the love -- he still has his pride. and what does that mean, in the end? how far does that take him?

in the end, oikawa tooru walks across a world stage and sees people who believed in him on the other side and calls it a family reunion. in the end, he gets to play the volleyball that reminds him of why he loves it and how it gives him so much love back. in the end, his pride is unyielding and unbreakable, a product of the forge. he molded it with his own two hands. he will not let it falter so easily.

arrogance would not have taken oikawa tooru this far. i hope this has proven that he is anything but.

remember: instinct is something you polish. talent is something you make bloom. and never, ever let anyone else tell you what your pride is worth.

Im honestly a firm believer that he didn’t even care for the wind bag he was just as curious as the rest of the crew and they looked to him for the final decision—it was unanimous that they all wanted to open it, eury just HAPPENED to be the single guy who actually did the literal physical action of opening it. BECAUSE—like you said—THE CREW ALL LOOKED TO HIM BECAUSE HE WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO GAVE PUSHBACK.

It was literally so amazing and I like the portrayal of Poseidon as being godlike in his perspective of humans and still being kind/not apathetic/having pity but not mercy.

eurylochus is absolutely my favorite epic character and i'll die on any hill defending him idc.

i've genuinely gotten hate for saying that there's a very real chance that eurylochus wasn't even the one to open the bag because of that lyric. i've tried explaining it to so many people that it literally doesn't make sense to make the lyric "they're opening the bag" when it could've easily been "he's opening the bag" and nothing would change. this lyric choice was literally meant to highlight that this was not any one person's decision and my actual interpretation of the scene is just that eurylochus is taking responsibility for it so that no one else is punished. i've been called delusional for saying that he could've been lying and its crazyyyy how far people will go to say "nuh uh!!! jorge intended him to be this unlikeable, irredeemable person!!!!" as if eurylochus very clearly isn't one jorge's fav characters like huh,,, (not to mention talya literally liked my comment defending eury but that's neither here nor there lol)

i personally think that it literally doesn't matter either way because it was always very obvious that it wasn't eurylochus acting as a singular individual. either he didn't open the bag at all and simply took responsibility for it because it was his job to keep the crew handled, he DID open the bag alone but it was either because the crew wanted to do it anyways or because he believed it was in the crew's best interest, or he was literally just apart of the group that opened it and claimed he did it alone because he blames himself for not doing more to stop it. EITHER WAY THE RESULT IS THE SAME!!! and either way, he isn't this scheming villain that was too stupid not to listen to ody or whatever.

i don't know-- i just think the fandom's perception of eurylochus as a whole is extremely skewed towards this black and white "odysseus is always correct" kind of mentality as if the show is trying to make you wonder what the right decisions were. if eurylochus were our protagonist then half the discourse surrounding him wouldn't exist, but because you have to actually think critically about eurylochus beyond surface level interpretations, it's hard for people to do that. which, honestly, saying that makes me sound pretentious as hell but im convinced most people don't even listen to the lyrics because a startling amount of people think eurylochus is telling odysseus to abandon ALL of their men in puppeteer and not just the ones that were lost to circe so idkkkk

but yeah, i think there are a lot of layers to odysseus and eurylochus that people tend to ignore. i don't really remember what i wrote in that fic ngl but i do remember that i wrote it after i made my post talking about how jorge puts a lot of work in making the lyrics commentate on the social dynamic of eurylochus and odysseus. it isn't a mistake that he said "i need you to always be DEVOUT and comply with this our we'll all DIE in this" immediately after making odysseus spit out "I am neither man nor mythical"!!!!! there are so many points in the show where odysseus paints himself to be above his men, either because that's how he personally views himself or just because that's the reality! he's a king, something LITERALLY above men but below god. eurylochus is a guy without ANY power here-- especially in jorge's canon where he's actually just a guy that grew up in poverty before managing to court his way into the family!

mutiny as a whole requires you to make a whole lot of inferences about eurylochus' arc and the nature of his relationship with odysseus and that's why it's, in my opinion, one of (if not THE) most misunderstood songs in the entire show. everything eurylochus does here relies on the audience understanding a whole lot of implied things- like his representing the crew and how that's showcased through his instrumentation, or how there's an implied arc after circe's island where he realizes that odysseus was correct and fell in line like he was supposed to (that's what him lacking a single isolated part in 'different beast' is supposed to tell us) and THAT'S why he's so mad about scylla, or how part of why he's mad and why he says odysseus has to take all the responsibility with the power is because odysseus has spent this entire musical YAPPING HIS ASS OFF and getting them in trouble over and over and over again and yet the one time this shit is actually working, he decides not to talk??? he decides not to communicate what's going on??

like don't get me wrong, it's a damned if you do (because he told them about the windbag) damned if you don't (because he didn't tell them about scylla) and it's going to lead to people dying regardless, but that understanding is as far as people will go. again, if this had been from eurylochus' perspective, the opposite would happen and people would view odysseus as an irredeemable monster. and this might sound pretentious again but i do think that the fandom as a whole will do a flip on eurylochus when/if jorge comes out with that mini-musical dlc of the show from his perspective. i think that he really does need to hold people's hands and explain bit by bit why the tragedy of odysseus and eurylochus actually works.

i think poseidon is very similar to eurylochus in that his views and arc is all implied so most of the fandom ignores it or doesn't realize it's there. unlike eurylochus, i do think this is a bit of an issue with poseidon but, ultimately, that's just my opinion and me preferring "in vain" to "get in the water" lolol either way, i like portraying him as a god scorned by his own (previous) humanity. it makes his conflict mirror odysseus' and i really like that.

and, yeah, you might've just seen my post complaining about tiktok opinions on fanfic but i really dislike those guys. i've been doing my best to make my fics accessible to everyone-- non-regressors, regressors that don't relate to the community, regressors that do relate to the community, people who have no idea what agere is, ect.-- and i have gotten quite a few comments on some of my epic agere fics of people saying that i was their first exposure to agere! but it is really unfortunate that so many people judge it without looking into it or giving multiple writing styles a chance.

i love writing agere and the comments i get on my fics are truly so wonderful. there's nothing that means more to me than hearing someone say that they felt seen by my fic in a way that they've been before because so much of agere is a single representation that they just don't relate to. there are downsides to everything, though, and one of them is that my fics get very little exposure.

i don't think i deserve it or that i'm too good for the community i do have, but there are times when i write something and i wish i hadn't made it agere because then it might get more hits. that eurylochus fic is one of them (and it's super noticeable because only like 10% of that fic is even agere but i'd already committed too hard to it and i needed it for regressuary). i really just wrote that fic because i wanted to force my eurylochus & poseidon characterization and dynamic on other people. i have a couple other fics about odysseus (the ability to rest, living in a dream, and finally home) that i think are BANGERS in terms of my actual writing and the dynamics i describe (usually between odysseus and a certain god or odysseus and telemachus). they do get attention and im really happy that the epic fandom is so open to agere on ao3 (probably because there's so many of us posting to the tag and there's not enough regular epic fics LMAO), but it does definitely blow knowing that there's a lot of people that will just never read them because of how they're tagged.

i feel this way about my mha fics too. i currently have a mha fanfic that's ongoing with a 350k wordcount and halfway through that, i decided to officially add age regression to the story and tags. it had been HEAVILY implied throughout the entire thing but i didn't tag it or give it an official callout in story until the fifth fic of the series. i always go back and forth on whether or not i regret that because, on one hand, it's probably been many people's first exposure to agere in a neutral setting where it's not a primary focus and they likely learned a lot about it from my representation of it. on the other hand, how many people dropped the story after twenty-four 10k+ chapters because of it? and how many will continue to do so? do people who don't like it but put up with it because it's such a minor part grit their teeth and cringe every time my main character is childish now because they know it's not just a quirky trait?

im working on another mha long fic with a character in it that canonically age regresses in the show, but people ignore that or reject it all the time so part of me doesn't even want to add the agere tag and just have it be implied because the fic *might* get more interactions then. it's definitely a skewed way to thing, a perspective dictated by someone (me) who just really wants as much community and interactions as they can get, but it still sucks and i fear no one wins no matter what you do.

BUT ANYWAYS tldr im just insecure and the current wave of inane tiktok opinions definitely don't help. i really do appreciate people taking a chance on my fics even if they aren't sure about the tags <33 it always means a lot to me

Okay, okay, so, to get the easy stuff out the way:

I unfortunately made another hasty post, I didn't elaborate enough, that's definitely on me.

In my defense, it's 2:30am, I need to be up in five hours at the latest, and I saw the fifth post hating on jegulus and/or other fun parts of the fandom that I genuinely cannot find anything objectively problematic about.

I got pissed.

I tagged my post, and I agree that I further fueled the discourse.

This has been something that I've done before, unfortunately. I'm used to thinking of tags as part of screaming into the void, I'll be sure to erase them after this.

But as you said, it's normal for there to be discourse in fandom.

And honestly, that's what I usually do. Ignore it. Like I do with a lot of things I don't agree with on the internet.

I don't remember contributing to this whole ordeal before tbh, and I've been here for a decent amount of time.

But I got so ticked off, I wanted to get it off my chest for once.

Lost my grip there, but I honestly didn't think too deeply about it.

Anyway, yes, yes, obviously it's not entirely made up. We have the HP series, aka the source material, in which we do see quite a bit of Remus and Sirius.

I was more referring to the fact that every single other character in the marauders era, is, in fact, made up.

It's undeniable that, despite the bits and pieces we've heard throughout the books, we can't possibly have any sort of concrete understanding of how these characters were during their Hogwarts days, before the war.

Not only because the bits and pieces don't in any way make up a whole picture, but also because some of them might've been entirely unreliable.

So these characters; younger Remus and Sirius, as well as James, Peter, Lily, Regulus etc etc etc, have more or less been crafted on very arbitrary ideas.

They are made up, and very rarely reconcilable to their adult counterparts, which makes sense from several standpoints. (E.g. their canon characters have been severely beaten down and traumatized. AUs take place in entirely different settings; the context changes entirely, and so do the characters)

Now, as for the nazi allegory, I assume you're referring to a) morons who are glorifying the death eater tattoo (jesus christ), or b) the 'Slytherin Skittles'?

In b's case, I'd wager it started with Regulus and the potential to explore the Black Family dynamics, which then escalated to giving him his own friend group and creating entertaining dynamics between them.

However, I genuinely do not see the harm in this.

It hardly matters that they're canonically deaths eaters, or that they were most likely blood supremacists and horrible people; or whatever else could've been going on with them.

They were so barely mentioned in the actual story. Doesn't matter what effect their existence had on the story and how it served the narrative, because they were barely ever directly there.

We know next to nothing for fact. So it's next to impossible for most people to care for their actions in canon, and just see them as blank canvases.

I can't really fault them for that.

People project whatever they want on characters that are firmly established and thoroughly explored; characters that are borderline non-existent are free real estate.

And yes, changes can totally be problematic.

A prime example is definitely the hyperfeminization of Sirius, to make wolfstar fit the classic heteronormativity that plagues queer ships.

As for the romanticization of abusive romance tropes, I honestly have never seen it.

Either it's a part of the fandom I've somehow steered clear of, despite being balls deep in it, or some people are exaggerating, which isn't out of the realm of possibility, but I kind of doubt that's the case.

I've seen people hate on the liberties others have taken to explore gender through these characters, which ticked me off even more.

I don't think that there's any harm in people creating/enjoying content that is representative of their struggles/experiences with gender (or any other part of life).

In the end, however, I obviously get what you're saying. There are harmful changes that deserve to be pointed out.

But I never said that they didn't. Calling out the notions that are inherently problematic when perpetuated is important.

Constructive criticism is welcome. It's crucial. It only adds, it deepens people's understanding of media and brings attention to problematic aspects of certain interpretations.

That's not what I was referencing in my original post; at least, not intentionally.

I was talking about how so many people love to mindlessly complain about things they don't like, without actually bringing up any substantial points.

The only goal is to tear other people down.

As we've agreed, some of these changes are problematic.

But so is the way some people convey their disagreements.

Some of y'all use your complaints about new character developments to also hide your general prejudice against something.

In this particular instance, it's because the general concept of the 'new model' is pretty mainstream, so it's hard to avoid it. So I know that I'm being a bit unfair when I say, 'ignore it'

Ignoring it is rarely easy though, no matter how mainstream or minor.

It should be, because logically this is all fictional and it doesn't matter if someone dislikes your OTP, or if you think someone's hc is painfully unrealistic.

But we can't help it. It's impossible to care about how fictional something is when it means so much to us.

And seeing something antithetical to our interpretation can feel like some sort of personal attack, even when it's really not.

Part of it also stems from how, when you see fifty other people throwing in their two cents, you also want to.

Because it's a base instinct to want to be heard.

All that said, ignoring it, despite the circumstances, is often the best way to go, because a lot of the time it can be irrational.

Hating on someone because they don't like your ship can be irrational.

Starting a fight over someone's differing interpretation of a character can be irrational.

Think critically before you speak, and be careful when phrasing your points.

Being respectful is crucial, and if you're not getting the same courtesy, then stepping back is the smarter choice.

I'm still working on always maintaining these things myself.

I've been doing a bang-on job, broadly speaking.

I had a slight moment of weakness earlier :P

(For those wondering, I took the og post down. It wasn't anything tragic, I just said that most people who complain about the fandom's toxicity actively contribute to it when they hate on stuff others enjoy.

In the tags I went off a bit, my ultimate points being that the fun is often sucked out of everything, and that if I personally don't like something, I avoid it, stick to my stuff, and don't venture into others' spaces if I'm not willing to be open minded.

Hi! Long time lurker here with some words of wisdom if you will. Gonna apologize in advance if it's too cutthroat, but know it's not directed at you with malice.

It's not your responsibility to cater to every person on the internet. It's not your responsibility to curate an image that makes other people accept you. All you can do is be yourself (whether that be actually you or your internet persona if you have one) to the best of your abilities. At the end of the day, who gives a fuck if someone is triggered by some offhanded comment? You kinda just have to think, "Sorry you experienced some unpleasant things, but I don't know you or your history."

The issue with the internet today is that too many people are so fucking sensitive about context and self-imposed perceptions. Too many people have a victim complex with a snowflake mentality and it makes me want to blow my brains out everytime someone has a freaking melt down over something so little and once again self-perceived. To be honest, you shouldn't even have to apologize, but it's kind that you did.

From this moment onwards, I want you and anyone else who may read this to remember that it's literally not your responsibility to make anyone comfortable on your little corner of the internet. hello! 💕 i wasn't planning on answering any asks regarding this situation anymore but this ask really woke me up. i for one, totally agree with you and i have always had this mindset as well, like there's been plenty of times where i would scroll through social media and something would catch me off guard or even trigger me (which happens so rarely), but honestly guys, i don't care when this happens lmao, i just kept scrolling and forget about it in two minutes like i have so much on my mind in real life with my profession, i do not need something online to force itself into my peace and it's the internet, you will stumble upon something that might upset you.

I believe if you are on any social media site, you cannot expect everything to go according to plan, even considering you take the necessary steps and block certain tags (for example on tumblr) it can very much happen that you will still be exposed to it. at some point you have to realize that this world is not accustomed to you, nothing is, wether in real life nor online, you have to accept that there will always be different views and opinions that will piss you off or not align with you, make you mad or sad, but what you should never do in this situation is send hate or make it seem like a person is this awful individual.

you are not a good person if you bully people, and even if you show us all the awful things you had to go through in your real life, it is not an apology to bully people and you can attempt to make us feel bad, but i don't have sympathy for bullies, even if you were bullied yourself, especially then you should know how it feels like.

All: I think all of their horny levels would fluctuate? Like maybe one day they just aren't feeling it and the next they could be going crazy or whatever.

Minato: I don't think he'd have much of an opinion about who's the big spoon or not, he likes being held as much as he likes holding onto you. I don't think he'd be against borrowing your clothes, but I think he wouldn't do it mainly because of size. He's 6'5 and pretty buff so unless you have clothes that could fit him I don't think he'd borrow clothes, he'd love seeing you in his clothes though! I just can't see him using pet names. I think he'd try but I think he more so just finds using your name more romantic then a nickname or a pet name. He's pretty awkward in general. A lot of people have shied away from him due to his intimidating size and they see the scar on his face and assume the worst, he doesn't really know how to talk to people and h's never really outgoing. I think even if he was close to you he'd still be gentle and more on the soft spoken side. Spoiler territory for confessions so I won't get too much into that but he'd be too shy to confess first. Instead of squashing the bug with a shoe I think he would just move the bug outside. He doesn't really care about bugs, but he doesn't wanna hurt them, they're still living creatures. He's a pretty good driver so he doesn't mind driving, but he wouldn't mind you driving if you wanted to, as long as you were good at driving. If you're bad he will take it upon himself to teach you, other then practicing the car is off limits to you. He's also a pretty good cook. He has experience helping his parents cook when he was younger and cooking meals for his grandparents that he's taking care of. It's not that he really dislikes PDA, more like he gets too shy and awkward to really enjoy it. He doesn't like having so much attention on him and when it is, its all he can focus on. He doesn't mind you being affectionate, just feels uncomfy if its out in public. He's protective of the ones he loves just in general. I don't think he's had any relationships, but I think he'd had like one or two crushes.

Haruto: I think he'd prefer to hold you, he just likes the feeling of you in his arms. If you also wanna hold him though he wouldn't mind but he might suggest you both face and hold each other.
