finally made an actual ref sheet for my sona o7 i was gonna include alternate outfits but then i couldn’t be bothered so it’s just its main one. any “alt outfits” would just be more clown stuff in the same colour palette with maybe a pink variant anyways

The only sour note in today's excitement at the doll show was finding out that my 'starter BJD' I bought was in fact bought from Amazon from a company known for recasting, aka art theft. Like, IDK if the seller realized it was such a bad thing... but the way she phrased it was that SHE made the dolls (???), so I sort of assumed that she was an artist who worked with a casting company, or owned a 3D printer, or something? (I mean for all I know she could be an artist who contracts with a recasting company!) Literally my first question was, 'how can you offer these so cheap?' and she came back with 'well, I make them so I set the price!' And I guess from that I should have assumed she's actually a drop-shipper? :/ So idk if she's a scammer or just unclear, but either way I was not told the company name when I bought the doll. It wasn't until I saw the box (after I paid when the seller was packing up the doll) that I realized how cheap it looked, and red flags started going up. When I got her home and saw the Amazon sticker on the bottom of the box, I was like, ohhhh no.

So that was a big shame!! I can clock a knockoff MLP from a mile off, but I've only ever purchased one artist resin head, and admired BJDs from afar due to price and space. So finding a vinyl doll, which I know should be cheaper than resin even if it's legit, didn't immediately send up any red flags. I should be excited to have my very first full doll (wow!), but I know instead it comes with this huge headache. Urgh!

Anyway, I know there were a lot of young people at the show, and at least one of the other three dolls sold; I wonder if they were BJD noobs too, and didn't realize that they weren't getting a legit doll, or how recasts are viewed within that community? How would one even tactfully warn off someone from buying a recast? And I also wonder if because it's not a BJD specific event, if there's just no oversight to ensure that recasts aren't sold? I only saw one other booth with BJDs, but I think they were in a different room - and what could they do, even?

I'm still going to try and enjoy her, but it might take a couple days to shake off this funk. It just sucks that I can't just post photos of her without some kind of disclaimer, you know? Like, hey I know recasting is bad, I just didn't immediately assume this lady was lying, my bad!! She's cute but please don't buy one! :P

doll collection post

Hi guyz!! so somebody asked me to post my doll collection a while back and I put it off because i'm trying to rearrange my setup but its taking much longer than expected due to irl stuff.

But I dont wanna wait anymore! Feel free to just scroll through the pictures, you don't have to read the commentary if you don't want to. In fact you don't have to scroll through any of this at all. I wrote a lot because I am severely neurodivergent. Having a genuine blogging moment rn.

I have been waiting forever for an excuse to post my collection!! I was so happy someone suggested I do so.

I don't have a lot of room for everybody! Everyone is scattered around my room, but I try my best to display them nicely...

My G1 collection is moderately sized, these dolls are expensive and difficult to find. There are so many more I want, like Dead Tired Lagoona or Sweet 1600 Draculaura to go with my Sweet 1600 Clawdeen...sigh. But it just keeps getting harder! I am actually content with stopping my G1 collecting hunt for now and instead focusing on G3... Many of these dolls are from my dear friends, especially Leo and Raven (hi guyz!). Without my friends, I would only have three of these dolls... I am so lucky to be so loved!!!

I don't have many bratz that are in good enough shape to be on display. I really grew up on bratz rather than monster high... but again...these dolls get expensive! Roxxi was always a favorite of mine and a crush! Growing up, I was the type of kid who almost exclusively wanted one brat though. Yasmin. Not Cloe, Jade, or Sasha. I was devoted to collecting Yasmin because she looked similar to me. In retrospect, I really wish I had gotten more of the other girls...I do have some...though their numbers pale in comparison to the Yasmin army.

The ball-jointed doll is my most expensive doll and my largest doll (she is fucking ginormous). Even when buying her at half the original price (great deal from a great friend) she was hardly affordable.

I bought her because I plan on customizing her to be Flandre Scarlet, my ultimate comfort character! I've always dreamed of having a doll of Flan. SO why not make one myself? I've had her for months but am still too scared to cut that beautiful hair off...I'm no good at cutting wigs/hair in general. I did install her red eyes myself which I've never done before as this is my first and probably last bjd! She is gorgeous but I would consider these dolls luxury items... VERY EXPENSIVE.

I am so happy to have the coffin bean playset!! I think it was a really good idea to get it. but I am so sad because I have hardly any room for it! So It's sitting on my dresser in front of a giant mirror so please excuse the poor editing I did to obscure the reflection of me and my living space lol...

I gave my Twyla low pigtails, though they aren't very visible, and my Clawdeen braids! I think Clawdeen looks super cute this way tbh I tried curling her hair again and again and again but the curls always fell out (I dont have much experience)...but honestly... I think I like this look even better ^_^. You can see her ears so well this way.

This Clawdeen is basically my holy grail and it was gifted to me by Leo, Leo if you're reading this I hope you know you are basically Jesus.

not to get deep but the OMG doll next to her is special to me because it is one of the last gifts I got from my late Grandpa. He took me to target and when I said I liked the doll, no questions asked, he bought her for me. Didn't give me shit for liking dolls at my big age. He simply got her for me because she made me happy, and he wants me to be happy. Dolls can mean so much. Again, I am so lucky to be so loved!!! >:D

I have this gorgeous Draculaura just chilling next to my jewelry cuz I have nowhere else to put her and honestly she is gorgeous and should stand alone.

Here I have the pride Bratz next to my bed!!! They mean so much to me, as I said earlier I had a crush on Roxxi. To see she's a canon lesbian now is so incredible!! And Nevra, her girlfriend, is beautiful! They are so cute together... they are never leaving that box though. This was actually the first doll/set of dolls where I fully understood why people are content leaving dolls in their boxes. I love to play with my dolls so much... but I could never play with these two!! If anything happened to them I would lose my mind.

Now... you're probably thinking......where the hell is Lagoona?!?! Do you not have one despite loving her this much? Of course I have a Lagoona. I AM GROWING AN ARMY!!!!!!

I really, really love Lagoona...I want to get every Lagoona doll I possibly can. Isn't she so cute! I relate to her character in the cartoon a lot too... her life at home, her difficulties speaking up when she is sad or angry, her sporty personality, etc etc... She has quickly claimed her spot as biggest comfort character #2. I included many pictures because I simply cannot pick one, she is flawless. You might recognize the Lagoona on the left, I drew her in that exact pose recently!!

I have her army on my desk, giving me the strength I need to get through my work... like Homer Simpson with his pictures of baby Maggie at his work. I get endless inspiration and motivation from Lagoona!!!

And here is the Flandre shrine bonus... I adore her!! I also have finally ordered a fumo flan that should arrive in august around my birthday eeek!!!

Anyways that is my collection. It's been many years in the making, though it's almost doubled since monster high G3 released... Mattel truly has me by the balls right now. If you read any of this, thank you. I put a lot of time into making this post, and it was really fun. I feel like a real blogger right now.

I really really enjoy dolls and talking about them. So I will happily do so anytime I get the chance!!! Will probably do an update once I finally install some more shelves and move stuff around <3

I'm against bjd recasts for the actual, noticeable effect they have on the artists and community, not because I have any problem with making copies of things in general. I have yet to see pirating non indie music cause artists to stop making songs or go out of business because of piracy. It's a matter of not causing undue harm, not "making copy bad". I rip CDs for personal use. I am perfectly fine with people making personal recasts for repair purposes when the part would be impossible to get legit (if you can afford a replacement from the company, you should still buy it legit though). Making casts of a part to mod it for personal use is fine with me (again, try to get it legit first... but I'm mixed about this regarding limited sculpts... better to make a personal recast than take one out of circulation imo) . I don't support buying from the big recast factory where funds go towards stealing from more artists regardless of whether what you purchase from them is available elsewhere or not. I'd pirate Adobe products if I knew how. It's a matter of harm mitigation. But some people would say I'm just as bad as luo or something idk. I just wish people didn't get stuck in this black and white thinking about it. I'd maybe say I was recast neutral if that term didn't get bastardized by trolls here... but tbh I'm not neutral. I still think recasting BJDs is bad because it causes harm. There's just more nuance when it comes to "copying" in general.

went 2 the doll fair today~ lots of reborn dolls of all varieties. not a lot of fashion dolls i was interested in. I ended up coming away with two teen trends dolls, which I saw at the last doll show I went too but passed up and spent the last two months kicking myself for. They cleaned up pretty nicely, though I haven't tackled their hair yet. it's kanekalon, which i don't know much about. need 2 do more research before I start messing with it.

the big problem i have with them is the problem everyone who has ever owned a teen trends has had, the elastic. so. teen trends are actually done with elastic more like a BJD (explaining for my audience of soap viewers and period drama aficionados) and because they're like 15 years old, the elastic is basically gone in their legs, so they hang like a puppet or something. mum thinks I should take them to the doll hospital in our area and see what they say before tackling them myself. which is a good assessment i do tend to go in guns blazing.

we'll see. I still have two days of work left this week, i have to send a bunch of emails, do a lot of paperwork......idk if im going to have time to make appointments for my dolls. i can barely make appointments for myself, lol.

Kou and Nene regressing together the most often. Hanako watches over them but often times is less of a caregiver and more of a glorified older brother (sometimes baby brother) and Tsuchigomori has to step in before something goes terribly.

Nene’s favorite game would be to play princess with Kou and Hanako as either the prince or dragons

Also just Tauchigomori in general is so dad coded. Those three are his kids you can’t convince me otherwise. I don’t know how far into the series you are but when Kou goes to him for help, literally just a kiddo and his dad. And of course Hanako just being a mood and chilling in his office.

The mokke will only ever share their candy when a little one is upset to try and cheer them up.

Akane is a caregiver 100% He’s just kinda silly and I love him a lot.

YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY HAPPIEST MOMENT EVER

Hanako likes to claim he’s a caregiver but in reality he’s not nearly responsible enough to be one, and the slightest mess up can lead him to spiral. But he does like to babysit! I think Nene regresses the most frequently, Kou definitely regresses more frequently than Hanako, but that’s just because Hanako pushes off his regression saying he doesn’t need it. Tsuchigomori is the most dad ever. I’m not a fan of placing parental like roles on caregivers since it’s such a unique relationship, but Hanako absolutely calls him dad

Nene loves being a princess! Kou will be the knight saving her from the evil apparitions! Hanako gets jealous if he’s on the bad side though, so usually they recruit other apparitions to be evil! Tsuchigomori can get too actually scary sometimes, so they usually recruit the mokke! (Nene can be a crybaby, silly girl)

I can imagine certain little ones trying to follow the mokke to their hordes (Tsukasa, Nene, Mitsuba but only sometimes) meanwhile the mokke just lead the kiddos in circles

Akane would be the best caregiver! Aoi and Nene play date with caregivers Akane and Hanako… Strong jealousy coming from both caregivers meanwhile there’s just giggly girls playing

I need more Sakura agere content????? Please please please someone see my vision of caregiver Sakura and little Mitsuba + Tsukasa kinda helping but mainly being a menace (Natsuhiko is just there)

Baby Mitsuba knows a LOT of big kid words. He doesn’t fully understand what he’s saying, but like he mostly does. Anytime he gets flustered from too much attention he starts screaming that his caregivers a pervert, if he’s embarrassed his caregivers taking pictures of him he screams how he doesn’t want to be in their porn. It’s kinda concerning he knows these words? But it’s also just like. Mitsuba. Buddy. That’s not even close to what’s going on

How to spot a Recast store.

First of all, what is a recast?

A recast is an unlicensed copy of a BJD, a knockoff, a fake. Usually the dolls are bought from a legit company (sometimes not even from the recast company itself, but from supporters), a mold is made (either making a physical mold or a 3D scan) and then the dolls can be mass produced. Usually made in China, but there are exceptions to this.

I'm not going into detail here on why they are a big problem, there are tons of posts about this on the internet. They are bad, they destroy the dollmakers and artists that I love, if you're fine with that, this blog isn't for you.

This blog is for those, that want to buy legit BJDs and don't want to accidentally buy a recast, which is getting harder and harder.

I'll put this under a cut, because this is gonna get a bit lengthy.

What not to do: Google "buy BJD", you'll literally get a ton of Ali Express listings of knockoff BJDs.

You will have to do some research up front, you need to know what company you want to buy. For that, you can go to the BJD hashtag, here, on instagram, sometimes even Twitter, and see if there is something you like. Usually people also tag the company and sculpt, and if not, asking usually gets the reply.

You can also go to one of the many official dealer pages and just click through their dolls to see if you find something that you like.

Stay away from Ali Express and Amazon. Both of these pages are riddled with knockoffs. Idk if there are actually any legit sellers on Ali, if there are, they are few. I think Dollzone sells on Amazon, but seriously, most of the dolls there are fakes.

Ebay and Etsy are also full of recasts, but you can find some legit dolls there.

So, how do you spot a recast store? Let me show you some hints, that are usually a dead giveaway.

A lot of different styles.

This is the header of an etsy shop. While the two on the left might be from the same maker, the other two are very different. (The one on the right is a doll from Fairyland, one of the, if not the most recasted company out there).

Different styles only make sense, if the seller is a distributor/dealer. If it's not a dealer, back out.

Which brings us to the next point:

Generic names.

If a shop were a dealer, they would give you the names of the companies and sculpts.

Example from an official dealer:

See how you can choose the company, size, and then the sculpts? Recast shops don't give you that (there's one exception, that I'll mention later).

They give you "1/4 BJD Doll MSD", "Girl BJD 1/6" or if they wanna go all out "1/3 BJD Doll 60.5CM Full Set BJD Doll With Clothes Resin Toys Best Gift for Girls Hand Made Doll Custom Dolls OOAK Art Doll diy Dolls".

They want to stay as generic as possible, so the newbies that google for "buy bjd" will be redirected to their pages.

If you find generic names, back the hell out of there. I don't know a single company or dealer, that do not tell you what doll exactly you're buying!

Short production time

BJDs take time to make. They are not mass produced dolls, they are casted, sanded, strung and packed by small companies. Even the big names in this hobby usually are just a hand full of people. So it takes time.

Usually between 2-6 months. I don't know any company that actually gives you an estimate below 60 days. Sometimes they ship faster (maybe it's a popular sculpt and they have actually made some for stock, maybe they didn't have a lot of orders during that time, etc), but they don't usually give you a shorter timeline.

If your listing claims the doll will be shipped in 1-2 weeks? Bad news for you, that's usually a recast store.

Price

I hate to say it, but this is an expensive hobby. Dolls usually cost at least $200, oftentimes more. There are some companies that have cheaper prices, but if it goes below $150, I would definitely have a closer look.

Now, the price is usually the last thing that I mention, because before the price tag, you should check for all the things mentioned above. Only if you have a consistent style, specific names, and a timeline that makes sense, then you should check for the price.

I say that, because I know of one Recast store, that tries so hard to look legit, they actually put effort in it.

And that is the BJD Shop.

Look at that. You have company names, you have sculpt names, it looks like a legit dealer (if you ignore that their production time is 1-4 weeks).

But now look at the prices.

Not taking into account that this specific sculpt isn't even available from Fairyland anymore, the price? Is not even $100 (for blank doll).

Now let's look at the actual price by FL:

Rule of thumb: If a price is too good to be true, it very likely is.

So I recommend actually looking for the doll company, if you find a dealer you're not sure is legit, and compare the prices.

A good page for information is Den Of Angels. It's a forum, but a lot of things are easily available without account through Google. For example their dealer list. Is it complete? I don't know, maybe not, but it's a good start.

I hope this is helpful for anyone who isn't sure about a shop they want to buy from.

In your financial situation, I’d think you have bigger things to worry about than whether or not you can afford a BJD.

And it does suck. Not having funds for luxury items sucks hard. I wasn’t able to afford them until pretty recently and I’ve had people get on to me for having money to buy stuff with, now. Like how dare I replace my broken vacuum? What?

Only two of my BJD were bought straight from the company for full price. All of the others were gifts, won in contests, severely damaged and in need of repairs, and lucky, low-cost finds second hand.

There are also legits that cost less than recasts.

In all honesty the worst one is that while people tell people "hey! Don't bully people that cant afford anything but recasts!" But the answer is still "ew i dont want to be friends with someone who buys recasts". It adds this whole level of elitism to the hobby. Its incredibly hard to not see the way that people treat poor people in this community as anything but bullying. I'm genuinely scared, I've wanted a ball joint doll for 10 years but i cant even buy one because I'm scared of the community

I’m not going to be friends with someone who’s ideals don’t match mine. That’s normal, not elitist. I’m not friends with people who are big into sports, either. I don’t care for sports. 

Someone that can’t afford a legit BJD can still be a part of the community without ever owning a doll. I think maybe no one thinks about that.

If I were hosting a meetup and someone that didn’t own any dolls wanted to come, they’d be welcome. Recasts wouldn’t.

I can understand being scared of the community, though. There ARE a lot of difficult people in the hobby (they are LOUD and aggressive). There are also a lot of wonderful people. You have to decide who to hang out with, just like any group of people. If you’re scared, you’re hanging around the wrong people.

Idk tho ig i dont really get to weigh in on this one though because I'm like so poor i have to pinch and scrape and save for a recast and almost always i end up having to use the money for something else before i get enough for a even a recast ;;

Of course you get to weigh in and have an opinion! You’re interested in BJD. That’s all it takes. And I appreciate you sharing it.

Having been in your situation, I understand. I grew up with no money. I’ve scrimped and starved. I get the temptation of getting what you want for cheap, especially when it’s not something you need, just something fun to feel good now and then in hard times.

I really, really do.

But I would never buy a recast, and no, I wouldn’t be friends with someone that thought buying recasts was ok.

I’m not dead!

As 2019 draws to a close, I’m finally finishing up my edits of Our Secret Storm (formerly Alone, Together). I can’t believe how long I’ve been fussing away at this, ever since the end of 2017 even. Damn, pretty soon it’ll be five years since I first started writing this story, that’s insane. 

I guess I’ll blame lack of writing inspiration for how slowly things have been going, as well as constantly getting distracted by shiny!new! ideas. But bit by bit, piece by piece, I’ve been making my way through this huge, unwieldy manuscript, and now it’s...well, it’s still huge, but I hope it’s at least a little less unwieldy. I’ve grown a lot as a writer these past five years; the edits range from tightening the prose to creating new material wholecloth (mainly the “Kestrel traveling alone” part, that has basically been completely rewritten. I wasn’t happy with it in the first place). To tell the truth I’m even a little embarrassed at the writing in the first version, but don’t worry, I’m not going to take it off the internet until I’ve gotten the published version 100% ready to go.

I still have a lot of work to do...need to reread and comb over the whole thing to make sure I didn’t miss anything, and probably get beta readers? Idk how and where though, but I am committed to getting Our Secret Storm fully completed and out for sale in 2020. You could say it’s my new year’s resolution.

In the meantime, I’ve posted a few new Magus Verse stories on my AO3, check ‘em out! Well, one of them I did post here a long time ago, but I’ve cleaned it up some.

Idk if anyone is reading this, but if you are, thanks for all your support over the years, and your patience with my snail-like slowness and erratic schedules (or lack thereof). It’s in large part because of the reader response that I’ve stuck with the Magus Verse for so long; knowing that other people are just as passionate and excited about this world and these characters as I am is the best motivation in the world. Now it’s expanded beyond just one story into a whole universe and I’m already planning several future stories and oh yeah, I can thank the Magus Verse for throwing me deep into the pit of the BJD hobby too. 

I made this big ol post and I still haven’t actually edited the final chapter yet, lol. But I will definitely get it done before the new year. Now that I put it into writing I can’t back down. :P

- Vlad   Honestly, I never fell THIS deep with otome guy UNTIL THIS GUY (and well Mitsuhide but let’s talk about him later). Everything about him is calling my soul. His appearance, his aesthetic (FLOWERS!!) Then, I went to Comte’s JP route and learning a lot more about his motivation, his personality.. ohmygod, I love everything about him??!! especially his /bad/ side!! and now.. I found MY OTOME SOULMATE, even I have to wait for years. I WILL WAIT and I will write a lot about youuuuu~

- Mitsuhide Ikesen   So, I’ve been Mitsuhide hoe since many many years ago, due to his history. THEN this Mitsuhide knocked every other Mitsuhide(s) out there and, omg just how layered he is and exactly someone who I would fall in love with?? He just sneaked his way to my heart since I saw him, well I downloaded Ikesen basically FOR HIM lol. LISTEN, I did all his route choices with +4 +4 results until the end. Perfect score, without hints/anything. I was both shook bcs it never happened before and ‘I DO LOVE HIM SO MUCH’. Another OTOME SOULMATE (ssshh I can have several ok~)

- Zen Mysme He helped me going through my worst depression years ago. My life felt so damn empty and I picked Mysme to play, then Zen. ZEN!! His overflowing love got me SOBBING everyday, like I cried in 90% of his chats/calls, and even until now. I can never get over him. I wrote random fics about him that time but I have disagreement with some of mysme aspects, so yeah, it was mostly fix-it fics *winks at Reira ehehehe* LOL.

In today’s case, not specifically bjd related, but I’m also sick of bjd accounts doing this too.

Today an artist I follow posted that they want people to unfollow them because if you’re not constantly liking or commenting, you basically don’t deserve to see their content. The account I was following was their “old” account which no longer shows any of the stuff they sell, it s just for promo, because they have a new account that is private for only the people who are willing to devote “real” time and attention to them which makes you “worthy” of having the chance to buy some of their art. They said following but not engaging basically hurts their reach because of the algorithm, so you’re not allowed to follow their new account if you follow more that a couple hundred other accounts because you won’t see them or have the time to “properly engage” therefore you’re dead weight.

Look. I’m a small business owner and a lot of my business is reliant on people being able to see and interact with my social media. I work hard on it and I’ll be honest that I don’t have a massive insta following because I don’t have free cash to pay for ads like others do. I’m sure though that I have a ton of “unworthy” followers, but why in the sweet fuck would I tell them to stop following me? Maybe it hurts my reach idk, but like I want people to enjoy my content. Maybe they can’t buy something right now, but they might want to later and if I tell them to fuck off because they’re not working hard enough for MY business, then they’re sure as hell not going to buy from me or engage with me.

Needless to say I unfollowed the artist. I have a lot of anxiety which makes me an “unworthy” follower most of the time. It’s hard to interact with people when I don’t have to and most of the time I’m using social media it’s just to look at dolls and memes and shit, so I’m not consciously thinking “must like, must comment” because I shouldn’t have to earn the right to look at a public page. I wouldn’t ever follow a private account anyway - too much work, but I mean I’m definitely not following or buying now.

I’m starting to see this as a trend in a lot of account especially if they’re massive accounts and honestly I get that instagrams algorithm is a nightmare, but I’m unfollowing left and right now because of all this. I can’t enjoy someone’s content if I’ve basically been told to fuck off for not enjoying someone’s content hard enough. I’m grateful for every like or comment or whatever I get so I genuinely can’t grasp the greed of having several thousand followers and a successful business and basically just telling your followers to fuck off like this.

Mod: I've noticed big accounts I follow (on my normie lurker account, I don't have a BJD one) are getting 1/3 of the likes they used to on some posts, like 700 when they used to get 2k on a selfie, or 60k instead of 150k, it's insta's algorithm which literally hides posts from users. I just saw someone post their new doll that they bought and I’m like 95% sure the body was a bjd but they photoshopped the face of a famous person onto the doll, like there is no fucking way that the face I saw was painted onto a hard resin head especially one of the color and quality of the body in the picture. Not to mention there were two pics of the doll with two different heads, but the “paint job” was perfectly identical in two different facial expressions as if the doll had decided to smile for the camera. It was horrifically uncanny. I’ve seen a lot of photorealistic art pieces, dolls included, but there’s no way this wasn’t photoshop, not to mention the color on the face nowhere near matched the body color and idk why someone would paint a head not to match. There was a dewy translucent quality to the face too that I’ve never seen replicated by any medium.

I checked the maker of the dolls and the head sculpts are fantastic and very realistic but they still look like dolls made out of resin, but the person who posted the pictures didn’t state that they’d edited the face in any way. It was so bizarre and all the comments were just like “wow so pretty”. It honestly kinda looked like if someone photoshopped Jennifer Lawrence’s face onto a doll, but like slightly off. If I hadn’t screencapped the image when I saw it, I’d honestly think I imagined it. Really freaky. If this person painted the head to look like this (it is clear that the maker does not have that level of faceup skills, though they’re very talented) I have no idea why this account hasn’t  completely blown up. The post was suggested to me, but the account doesn’t seem to be that big.

Actually I just checked. It had to be photoshop bc the account has other pictures of the doll which are just as uncanny, but there’s a video clip of it but it cuts off just as the chin comes into view and the little bit of face doesn’t match the photos and other pictures of their dolls have like middling faceups. So so weird. I have no idea why someone would do this and pass it off as like an actual sculpt and faceup especially when they tagged the artist who makes the dolls. I’m sure if the artist saw it they would be super confused. I cannot convey how unsettling the pictures were, but I don’t want to embarrass or upset anyone so I won’t be linking. I don’t usually get uncanny valley vibes from hyper realistic dolls, but oof and like I’m so sure I recognize the face, but I can’t place who it is.

I really like Alice’s Collections, don’t get me wrong, but this last order from them was a mess. It took long to ship and then it took even longer to arrive, which I hate, but fully understand bc of covid and everything, but then it finally arrives and it just kinda disappoints. The fur wigs I bought are not cut like the listing implies, they’re not even similar at all and I’m pretty sure the wigs in the pictures aren’t even fur wigs now. They’re great quality, just uncut and unruly and I don’t know how to cut hair. Luckily my doll has an edgy vibe, so a choppy, shaggy cut works.

Then the tights I ordered are MASSIVE. They’re super loose and big and they might even fit my 1/3 scale doll, but I bought the 1/4th size and according to their sizing recommendations they should fit (even if they were just a little loose which happens I wouldn’t mind, but they’re huge) and then the shoes I bought are also massive. Definitely still 1/4th, but they’re closer to 6.5/7cm on the inside instead of the 6cm it says which would definitely fit my doll and to boot, the buckle on one shoes was poorly sewn on and it just fell off, so now I have to repair it. The lucky thing is that the skirt I bought (which might as well be black) is actually lined with a thick white fabric which it isn’t in the photos, which means she doesn’t need tights bc I don’t have to worry about the black staining her.

The zipper on the skirt is shitty however and the fit is again weird despite my doll being appropriate for their recommended size. It works with the sweater she wears, but it does end up quite short. I know a lot of their stuff they buy and resell from other people, so it’s not exactly their fault, but the misrepresentation on the site is what bugs me more. Idk maybe it’s time to stop ordering from them, but their prices are so reasonable and so is their shipping, unlike buying everything from Etsy like I used to.

Their customer service is nice, but I just feel like their site is already weird and awful to look at, but now I feel like I can’t trust any of their product information. I’m just glad that I didn’t spend a ton on all of this which is what saves it from being a complete bust. In general I wish bjd clothing sellers would write explicit and accurate info on their clothing sizes and closures and whatnot.
