Looking at the Last Mabelcorn from a Christian perspective is facinating and fun.
Cos on the one hand you have Mabel's annoucement that morality is relative, which IS played as a joke but even so is something I have a gut reaction to reject.
And then you have the B plot in which there's a very interesting exploration into essentially making a deal with the devil. And how Bill (arguably) never actually cared about Ford, and lied and used him. How he said he would give Ford everything he needed to make him happy, and lied that just working with Bill would fulfil him. How he doesn't care about Ford really and takes great glee in his suffering, despite pretending to be a friend. And how he preyed upon Ford's flaws and sinful nature and exasperated that for his own goals. Isolation, pretending to be a friend, lying, manipulation--its all how the devil works in real life.
And I find that fun to explore in a cartoon, despite the non-Christian origin and foundation of the show

Charmed 02x08 Review SPOILERS!!!!
Sorry this took so long y'all. Family stuff just blew up in my face this month has been just terrible it's been terrible since the end of november to be honest, so I just wasnt in the mood to review. But I shall starts. In general i liked the episode 8/10 for me. I like the pacing, the general plot advancing. I liked it, but I have some complaints though. So let's just get those out of the way. So I'll do pros and cons by subject since there were things I both disliked and liked about each thing.
1. Hacy
Let's just get this big guy out of the way. So abby and Harry kiss was a big no for me, although it was hot for sure.
Now there has been a lot of back and forth about this so I actually wanted to compare to the things that bugged me about Macyx galvin and where I thought one does better than the other.
Communication
So like Harry and Macy do not communicate well with each other right now. I feel that thier communication issues though are better (or at least make more sense to me) than Macy x Galvin.
Macy while communicating with Galvin, as far as arranging things, was bad, but with her kiss on halloween she did make her interest in Galvin known. They both had an understanding that they were interested. So I thought the whole Summer ordeal was worse in that sense because, while the follow through was poorly done, Macy's interest was stated.
With Harry and Macy, it appears that neither of them have stated any interest to one another (neither has told the other thier feelings) and neither is aware. So harry kissing some one else isnt as bad to me as the Galvin x Summer situation because of that (speaking about this area soley).
The passive aggressiveness of Harry and Galvin in certain situation isnt comparable because Harry is doing it more.I felt Harry's reactions are more justified (we will get to the hypocritical portion later) in that he is going through the wringer, is hurting and confused, and self-deprecating and many of us agreed that the thought of Macy preferring Jimmy would be bad and hurtful to Harry and logically make no sense. But harry has more scenes than Galvin did in season one so he feel more passive aggressive than Galvin, but I attribute that to screen time and proximity to the Macy (he always there so more time and chances to interact). But also, for me, Galvin wasnt as passive agressive and his sometimes aggressive or snideness wasnt because of Macy. Outside stuff (problems with summer) would make him snap or his trauma also caused him to snap so the situations are comparable there but, again Harry has more screen time so his snapping feels worse to me because it happens multiple time in one episode versus one or twice in a whole season. Since the situation ( and right now I am speaking soley on the summer x Galvin situation) was different. I am up in the air I as to which was "worse" i think both situations are sucky and i think i am more bothered by Galvin x Summer because again Macy had actually expressed her interest (communication wise) but the hacy situation feels more full of that passive aggressiveness and that will turn it into something I really cant get behind. Right now I feel Harry is in a bad place and probably shouldnt be with anyone until he get himself settled personally.
Love triangle/square or whatever
So like with summer x Galvin it wasnt really a love triangle I mean kind of but not really. Galvin didnt pursue Macy while with summer and was generally nice during that time. Summer wasnt necessarily the jealous girlfriend stereotype she was nice, but did call out suspect behavior.
The abby xharryx Macy x jimmy thing is like aweful. It is the love triangle that I hate most at least where the abbyxharryxmacy part is concerned.
I mentioned it before but I hate when one or two people use another person as a means of getting release/relief when they are actually interested in someone else. I think it is cruel to both the used character and the main LI. Worse when both are using others because twice the cruelty. IDK what was going on in Harry's head. But I have never like that type of love triangle, and worse so because it is possibly the other type of triangle I hate which is (usually guy) caught between two ladies and one is clearly the villian (I thank novelas for this gem *sarcasm*) and it is mostly a lust thing.
Especially given that James Westwell was a serial cheater, apparently, this idea of "I love one person but am in lust with the other despite thier character" is like the worst to me. Abby is straight up an ambitious murder, and like I guess that maybe Harry's default type because Charity had similar qualities, but again for a guy who supposedly has strong feelings for Macy and was so confused and hurt by her attraction to Jimmy (which apparently wasnt attraction at all) the ease of him doing the very thing he was mad about , and the ease of being able to push aside his feeling for Macy and give in to that abby kiss was gross.
Sorry but although they werent together, for me, guys who can do that easily should be on our cheater radar. Knowing that James was a serial cheater just makes it worse imo.
While the summer x Galvin situation felt worse on the communication front (expressed feelings) it was better done than here because there is a lot more grossness in the dynamics of the love shape thing right now.
Overall, I get Harry isnt in a place to be with anyone and it's all confusing and he is lashing out. He has not told Macy his interest and neither has she so he shouldnt be held to the boyfriend standards. But still the writers are toeing the line here. What happens next will actually help me define whether this turns into a Galvin situation where I end up not liking the two characters together. If Harry tries to continue the passive aggressiveness about Macy and Jimmy. I'll be done. I mean if he does have feelings for abby and trying to move on, but still tries to pull that with Macy it will just be straight up manipulative. Right now I am like okay he was lashing out and I get it and the abby kiss is probably a big mistake. He can continue the mistake path if the writers wasnt to go there, but if he doesnt recognize that he did something hypocritical and still comes for Macy about Jimmy it will be very very wrong.
I think they for sure need to clear the air but if the writers wait to long or do too much damage I wont be satisfied with the clearing of the air.
I am not necessarily mad right now over the abbyx Harry thing because I am waiting to see how they will handle and present it, but I mean it is on that line and writers need to watch out. I dont think Harry was trying to be manipulative and the lashing out happened before abby kiss. As long as the lashing out (at Macy) doesnt continue I will watch and support the development and exploration of thier relationship and dynamic with the others.
2. Maggie
So like Maggie shows her naivety here and I am not that mad. Like she isn't pulling a "I am so in love and blind to the world" thing she makes her decision based on what she thinks will do the most good for the most people. It is still naive, but she is still maturing and you can see that. Her wanting her sisters to trust her judgment and not feel like they have to baby her is reasonable although again those insecurities clouded the main issues here. She is growing and I shall see how she continues to mature.
3. Mel
I think they tried to fit some personal development for mel here and it both worked and didnt work. I thought it wasnt done badly but at some points I was like....okay could this have been saved for another episode or done beforehand. I wanted to see it, just didn't think it felt in place, especially after leaving the wedding. She just had some development and then was like welp guess I am gonna stumble upon this amber. Like mel could have gotten her new powers before, I mean I felt they could have made the stumble upon the amber scene and new powers at any point before and it could have been more relevant and interesting placed somewhere else than this episode.
4. Abby/overlord/parker storyline
Abby was probably the best thing in this episode. I love her as a villian. I am here for it and I want it.
Parker got dark real quick and while I think he and Maggie shouldnt be together, I am glad he didnt die. Also glad abby clarified that his actions weren't caused by the apple. Because at least OG with Cole the tragedy (the first storyline) was that he made a choice to protect the person he loved but he ended up becoming the source and actually being taken over by the source so his actions were tinted by his OG love but corrupted by that force that possessed him. Where as abby tells him, that that jealousy and want for blood was all him. Maybe the apple and that power made him more likely to act on it than of he hadnt, but it wasnt the apples fault necessarily so. I am glad for the clarification, makes me not want Maggie and him together, but I like that exploration of power and choice. Even with Macy while the power amplified those insecurities she still was making choice which also made her choice to give up that power extra meaningful. Power is corrupting but you can still choose to fight that corruption or give in to it. I like that.
5. Jordan
I love this character to be honest. I am still figuring him out, but like dude is cursed and has been basically touched, punched, and robbed by these guys. He can't catch a break and like nobody even checks on him. Like he so far is a pretty decent although suspicious (like he doesnt trust others easily not like he himself is suspect) guy and I like him but he is getting some serious Darryl treatment right now. I dont like that, but I like him and want to see more of him. Plus, what the heck happened? Did they leave him passed out in the gym? Did they wipe his memory? What is going on?

In the last three decades, neoliberalism has defined a brave new capitalist world – a world in which financial markets preside over the allocation of resources. Under neoliberal capitalism, investors are not only allowed to reap an exorbitant rent from the production of others: they are also invested with the power to decide what is worth producing. In addition to siphoning off wealth, financial institutions establish the criteria that shape the business plans of corporations and the budgets of elected governments. redemption fulfilment appreciation  6 lectures on the neoliberal condition
2 propositions, trying to ascertain the existence of the neoliberal condition
1
in the past 3 years has not only been transformative in statecraft and management, but just as transformative of personal motivation and conduct,
2
in order to fight neoliberal policies  my recommendation would be to not reject it but to embrace it, considering how resilient it is- next year
neoliberalism is a notion that belongs to its foes, belongs to the people who does not like neoliberalism, this was not always so, the term was coined in 1938 by a german economist alexander rustif the walter hitman conference, including the main figures in neoliberalism.
milton freedman used the word neoliberal to describe himself
hayek F never used the term, he's an old wick instead
so the term was used less and less, disappeared in the 60s and reappeared in 80s with clinton and blair right wing democratic parties,
they where proud to be called neoliberal but didn't know what necessary what they stood for, this was the last time someone presient , liberal wing of the democratic
then in the 80s as neoliberal, first with Margaret Thatcher, rREgan  this is when it started to be used by critics
this is a contested term, -what has happened since the 80s is a dismantling state, to regress to the early 20th century, some claim to want to return to the pure unmitigated capitalism, however
WHAT IS NEW?
others cantinas focal marx, neo is new, radically new
what is this new made of
1-financialisation, the rise of markets, facilitated by old forms of deregulation- this means 3 different things
   1. from the 80s on financial capital has been able to circulate freely from country to country across border
   2. financial capital has also been able to circulate freely from one type of financial institution to another, so no more difference between an investment bank and regular bank and what they can do
   3. the development of financial engineering that has caused the ever mushrooming market of derivitives, options and so forth
2. what stems from the financialization is a transformation in corporate governments. corporate governments today are about creating value for their shareholders. this is new, this is a doctrine and a practice developed in the 80s, thanks to financialisation
3. new public management, a transformation in statecraft, that mandates that public administration should be managed the way that corporations are managed, the way they are managed now, so this is about shareholders, there is no shareholders but voters this is making a government that proportes to please the bone holders, corporate management is about pleasing the shareholders, national governmental policies now is about pleasing the bone holders and that is also a consequence of finance
4. the advent of workfare, the replacement of welfare (the transformation of social policies) to workfare, in other words social programmes helping people return to work rather than providing for the fact that they are unemployed. its a transformation from a search for full employment to a search for employability, social policies should search for making people employable, not about making them employed necessarily
some of these transformations I embrace:
but it is not only state, corporation macro scales, its our condition  that has changed, our subjective forms, personal motivation and conduct
of course I am not only one who make this claim as early as 1979, is the very birthdate of neoliberalism, is the official birthdate, thatcher... in 79 birth of biopolitics lecture was given by michel Foucalt  and was something radically new among the new things it bought, one was subjective transformation, the self entrepreneur, entrepreneur of the self as the new subjective form of neoliberalism
my claim is that the consequence of financialisation, the subjective form of the self entrepreneur will be slightly obsolete and can be replaced by someone who could be called a portfolio manager instead of entrepreneur of the self,
2nd part what do I mean by condition, neoliberalism brings with it a representation of the human condition, my contention is that it is not only neoliberalism that brings the representation of the human condition, but, every mode of government is articulated, predicated on a certain representation of the human condition, in order to make my point i will lean on foucault
Foucault in the 70s developed a distinction between 2 kinds of power prominent in western society,
1. sovereign (supreme ruler) power, studied by political philosophy
so sovereignty the power to take and re distribute, to levee and reallocate, to confiscate and redeploy
the son can kill and give grace, raise taxes and redistribute wealth, and with land etc... a special right to take and reallocate
2. governmentality is different its not about taking and giving back, its based upon peoples action, about modifying peoples conduct to a certain end or goal, e.g. pastoral power, the power of the priest to modify the conduct of the faithful to bring them to some kind of salvation
what he claims is that governmentality (which was largely confined to the power of the church, in the west, in the middle age, early renaissance) will then extend beyond its pastoral, confines and governmentally will deploy as the major power in western society in the modern era, Not that sovereignty will disappear but will be more and more articulated through governmentalitly and govern mentality will loom larger and larger
now think of the legitimacy of the 2 powers, - look at what gives the right to the sovereign to be the sovereign is a special quality, for the platonic sovereign this is the world of the idea, for the absolute monarch, its the fact that god had given them the mandate to rule for the democratically elected leaders its the popular suffrage that allows them to be the sovereign
so sovergienty is based upon the special quality of the sovereign
Govenmentality is not legitimated by a special attribute of those who govern, but a special defect of those who are governed, and in order to allow yourself to govern others, you have to be able to claim that they cannot govern themselves, but then you have to show why, which means that you need to have a certain representation of how people behave when hey are not governed
this is why you need a certain representation of the human condition, interpreting the natural spontaneous propensities of certain people before government presented in a ay that makes government seem necessary and possible
this means you have to endow people with 2 types of inclinations 2 types of propensities they need to have bad inclinations to prove they cannot go without being governed, but it cannot only be done by the bad inclinations but if they where only governed upon bad propensities they they would be ungovernable as they would only have bad inclinations this JUSTIFIES but does not make possible
in order to make it possible they also need to have some good dispositions. these good dispositions show that governing them is possible but also tells how they should be governed tells what a good government is and will enhance  foster the good disposition of the people and ward off the bad ones, schematically this is the kind of representation that is required from a government that is entwined and necessarily articulated with a mode of government
by that I dont mean that the representation of the government are ideologies, that they are produced by government to justify what they do, to feel legitimate to do what they do and how they do it
it does not work like that
in fact in between a representation of the human condition and a form of government what you have is a relationship of mutual presupposition they lean on each other, which means a certain part of the human condition can be raised to government to justify or criticise it, in the name of the same representation you can say no if we agree that the human condition is a certain way then, than say that government has not adapted you can see here where I'm going when one should appropriate the condition that correlates to our current mode of government, the neoliberal mode of government
thats what is meant by condition but I'm saying something more- that there is a neoliberal condition, by which i not only mean that a certain representation of the human condition correlated with the neoliberal mode of government, but also that the neoliberal mode of government is correlated with a new representation of the human condition and that is a pretty bold claim because, major shifts in the representation of the human condition occur but are rare, I would argue that there have been two major shifts of this sort since the 5th century after christ so to say the 3rd one has been happening within the last 30 years is a bold claim in oder to defend this claim it is important to go back to see the predecessors of neoliberalism  the first condition is the augustinian condition which appears at the beginning of the 5th century and they are, the bad disposition called cupiditas cupidity, desire and the good charitas, charity the propensity to give desire to give, the human condition will be divided between these two polarising propensities, between the 5th and the 17th century, conditions are malleable 33:40 liberal condition -passions rash violent, bad - good yearning and ability to pursue interest recognised as praiseworthy  polarised between two propensities the neoliberal brings a new polarity self loathing and self appreciation this will be developed in economic terms- the economy based on profit to credit the evolution in psychology, the liberal subj optimises the neoliberal subject wants to inflate the self esteem social and love life of neoliberal subject the basic relationship of the neoliberal subject the relation of the liberal subject trading the atomic relationship of the neoliberal condition are not exchanging but SHARING intersecting, trading gives you profit, sharing gives you credit, bound to self esteem the augustinian condition, 1411 paladin controversy in the classical and hellenistical world the idea that evil was coming from the outside and men where endangered the form of hazard and this came in different forms, and within through imagination cells, but there was always a kernel of the soul that was rational, there has to be self control and autonomy, purification was the idea there was something pure in the soul that needed to be polished augustine changed that by discussing the paladins  the old we must be pure, the idea that these guys, in order to defeat them since the fall free will is a joke, there is not one part of our body that is good, that belongs to us, m the only thing that can save us is the charity that god in his

December 11th-December 17th, 2019 Reader Favorites Archive
The archive for the Reader Favorites chat that occurred from December 11th, 2019 to December 17th, 2019.  The chat focused on the following question:
What webcomic would you describe as your guilty pleasure and why?
Holmeaa - working on WAYFINDERS
Oooh. So the only webcomics I read are very nsfw, so there is a big guilty pleasure in reading smut.
keii4ii
Depending on how you define guilty pleasure, I don't think I have any, comic-wise. But I do have a couple of comics that I read with my brain turned off. XD One is a MMA action comic called Gyuhkki 3-Ban (Contact Sport Class #3). https://comic.naver.com/webtoon/list.nhn?titleId=701535&weekday=wed It's in Korean only at this time, but I would recommend it to anyone just for the sheer action, which you can enjoy even without reading the text. The artist is awesome at drawing the human body in motion, or even multiple human bodies in motion (all the grappling). They also have a MMA consultant for the series, which I'm sure helps a lot. Bonus: even though I mostly read it with my brain turned off, I also really like most of the characters? In particular, there is an extremely close platonic relationship between a dude and a gal, and it is so precious. The comic is not afraid to show affectionate touching (e.g. gently grabbing the other person's hand/wrist -- while pinned down to the ground by the other, to boot) despite the non-romantic nature of their relationship, and it makes this ace/aro person meeeellllt
keii4ii
There are also some insanely gorgeous webcomics that I read with my brain turned off. There is nothing bad about the writing in these comics -- it's not the writing, it's me, as I will explain. The visuals are just Too Powerful and my eyeballs basically replace my brain when I gaze upon those comics. Wormworld Saga is one of them. https://wormworldsaga.com/
Cap’n Lee (Flowerlark Studios)
I kind of feel hesitant to even answer this question, because a ‘guilty pleasure’ insinuates that a comic is bad, but I like it anyway. I wouldn’t want to deride any of my fellow creators’ work like that. None of our comics are perfect, but we’re all passionate about them and doing our best. I wouldn’t even classify any of the ‘naughty’ comics I read as guilty pleasures because I don’t feel guilty for enjoying them. Some explicit comics still have deep, meaningful storylines and well-done art. The subject matter isn’t for everyone, but that doesn’t make the comic bad or worth less than other comics. Yes, I have read comics that weren’t the best quality, but again, I feel no guilt for finding pleasure in their stories. None of us start out as pros, after all.(edited)
keii4ii
Yeah, I wouldn't say any of my "turn my brain off" comics are less intelligent reads! It's just how I respond as a reader. They are excellent comics that I would 100% recommend, with confidence.
FeatherNotes
Agreed with Lee! it's a hard to answer question, and I think we today have really learned how to de-construct and analyze better, so that 'guilty pleasure' isn't a concept that most who do can really relate to anyways?? interesting topic nonetheless!
SAWHAND
I would say my guilty pleasure comics (and I'm not gonna call em out by name, for some reasons discussed above) are comics that I know have some tropes or themes that are problematic to current day issues. Just stuff that's like, "I'm enjoying this, and I'm interested in the theme, but I'm a little skeptical that this author put in their due diligence in being careful of sensitive topics". That's the only thing that really makes me feel "guilty" when reading a comic.
RebelVampire
I'm gonna point out its fine to do as @SAWHAND and @Holmeaa - working on WAYFINDERS have done and not call any comics out directly if you don't want to even remotely suggest a comic may perchance be bad.
DanitheCarutor
Ah, now I feel bad for my post, even though to me "guilty pleasure" means something other people find bad that I really like. I wasn't insinuating the comic I pointed out was bad, but very edgy, which doesn't make it lesser quality. There are plenty of great edgy, bloody, grimdark stories! I'll just delete my previous post, don't want to offend anyone. <_<'
keii4ii
Yeah, I think this is can be a tricky topic! I did enjoy discussing some of my favorites though. To reiterate/clarify, just because I can enjoy them a lot with "my brain turned off" doesn't mean they are shallow. It's more like they have multiple layers to offer. The surface layer offers a ton of enjoyment already, but there is so much more to them if you read deeper!
Holmeaa - working on WAYFINDERS
For me it is not because the comic is bad I love them or else I would not read them. I just dont talk about them a lot, and I would not read them in the train. Also for me a comic who has a bit of stigma can be a guilty pleasure, like I really love yugioh. But because of the stigma I see it as a guilty pleasure of mine.
RebelVampire
Yeah, I agree with that sentiment. Just cause you define something as a guilty pleasure does not auto equate to "comic is bad." It can mean a lot of things for different people. I usually see a guilty pleasure comic as something you read but wouldn't necessarily tell everyone you read it because you would be judged or argued with in some regard. Like for me, a lot of comics I would define as guilty pleasures are the comics that are premium on their respective platforms. Not because their quality is at fault, but because there's a lot of politics surrounding them and the generalized hate they get just for getting more promoted on the platforms than others. And in a general crowd I would not necessarily mention that cause I avoid all sorts of politics where possible.
That being said, I don't want anyone here to think it's bad to say you think a comic is bad or it's taboo to imply bad comics exist. That is a fool's errand. The difference is are you respectful about it and still understand the creator is improving and getting better. Cause if you're respectful, it's not a crime to think something isn't good.
Cap’n Lee (Flowerlark Studios)
That’s all very true! I suppose I had concerns that defining a comic as a ‘guilty pleasure’ might open up backhanded compliments at comics whose creators who could well be perusing the server. Thank you for clarifying your stance, and I’m glad I was mistaken.
AntiBunny
For me it's Jack. The comic was often disturbing, very dark, heartbreaking, and yet could also be beautiful and uplifting. I stopped reading because the author stopped keeping up the website, and only posts on fur affinity now, and I don't feel like trawling his gallery for the updates.
MJ Massey
Hmmm I guess I read a lot of romance comics, that kind of surprises people. Mostly webtoons stuff like I Love Yoo and True Beauty, which are both so good
MJ Massey
Kind of combining this question and the previous, there was this comic waaaaaaaaay back in the day I loved called "Ninja Spirit". I don't think it's online anymore. The art wasn't the greatest, and it started more gag-strip like, but I ended up falling in love with the characters and the story as it evolved and developed. Unfortunately, it went on forever hiatus right at the start of the last chapter so I'll never know how it ends
RebelVampire
I already partially answered this earlier, but I want to add another. Similar to @MJ Massey , the comics I generally define as guilty pleasures are romance comics. Because a lot of the ones I like are filled with tropes you've seen one hundred times. And I am gonna say not all of them are that great. While most of them aren't bad, they do not fall into a category of comics I'd recommend to others and go "Hey this comic is great, you should read it." But even if I don't think they're that great, I still read them and like them because they hit that niche of happy fluff that I sometimes need to get through life.
MJ Massey
and sometimes, that is exactly what you need

TWIG Note – 2/2 Cotton update – Daniels Trading

from soybeans (H17) 1035'4 -1'2

KC Wheat (H17) 443'4 +3'0
Cotton (H17) 76.85 +.41
Im checking back in this PM to talk about a cotton! The market has gone parabolic of late, with all the contracts out to Dec 17 testing the summer highs. There are a lot of angles on this story, so I invited one of the interns we have working in our Lubbock office named Payne (yes!) Sharpley to give me his take. Payne is a Sr. in Ag Econ at Texas Tech. Payne and I share more than a name, we share a passion for this stuff. In the expect him to provide insight to the newsletter, I want to hear from guys who dont sit and stare at the forest that is the markets all day. As we move forward you can expect to hear more from him. As an academic, I asked him to provide a couple of paragraphs of what he notices:
Upon breaking the ice into the first February in the Trump administration and Chinese New Year, the ICE Cotton #2 futures have absolutely overran through resistance levels of 75 this week and it’s a push towards a near 6-month high with Mar '17 futures closing 150 points higher at 76.44 on Wednesday. Front months following, May'17 and Jul'17 closed at 77.05(+1.45) and 77.57(+1.41), respectively, with Dec'17, closing only 56 points higher at 72.39. Last week’s Commitment of Traders report showed open interest increased by 32,534 with producers/merchants/processors increasing net shorts and longs by 10,791 and 2,538 contracts, respectively. This is likely due to hedgers locking in last week’s favorable prices in the mid 70 cents region, a narrowing basis, an alarmingly wide 5 cents spread between May'17 & Nov'17 futures, and increased estimates of U.S. cotton production (mainly in TX). Addition ally, the traders and funds are beginning to roll their positions from March to May with anticipations of increasing volatility due to various fundamental reasons and world supply concerns for 2017.
Fundamentals
Projections from the USDA have claimed that demand for cotton is going to outweigh supply by 1.24 MMT. China's demand for 2017 is reportedly 5x higher than it was last year. Higher demand for US cotton has also been a key factor driving prices as we come into the second month of the new year with Pakistan, Turkey, and China being our top importers. Our cotton exports have also surpassed the 5-year average by 6%, and projections that we will be shipping the most cotton since 2013 are circumventing and beginning to prove true. So, if you remember what cotton prices were 4-5 years ago then I expect we will soon again ask walking in 'High Cotton'. Furthermore, India, the biggest producer of cotton in the world, is currently in an interesting position in regards to their agriculture production and trade considering the growing concerns about the global cotton supply. Stating that, I have anticipated on rising prices ever sin ce the Indian government shunned Monsanto last year whom which commandeered 90% of the country’s agricultural biotechnology (pesticides, GE seeds, GM plants). Believe it or not, but India’s Economic Times claimed that government officials and economists are preparing to undergo a reformation policy for their commodity markets because they "require a better infrastructure in order to compete with the 'normal' global cotton trade" due to poor quality. Expectedly, the country has planted 10% less cotton than the 2015-16 year due to white flies which come about from growing all organic wherein the plants do not get sprayed or planted with the necessary pesticides and/or seeds and are more susceptible to damage.
Thank you very much, Payne. Those are well thought out points, that touch on a lot of what I fear, specifically India and China. I have been hearing a lot of talk about currency problems in each country, combined with weak production last year and in the case of India, maybe smaller production next year. This all matters. My argument would be that it is being priced in. I think the action in the July-Dec futures spread points toward capitulation.
The market traded into its price gap today on Dec 17 futures, which filled some orders we had sitting out there near 73.60. Time will tell whether or not this was a good play, but I think its the necessary one. In the point back to corn from last year, when the market gave us this kind of price action only to have the funds take it away within weeks. While I think this rally is more justified than corn from a year ago, I think a correction is much over due. I lean on the long fund position as the reason to hedge. Buy puts or sell futures/spreads. How aggressive you want to be is up to you but I would look to trade this more aggressively from the short side at these levels. If Dec 17 gets through 75 then we maybe have a new ball game, but I think between now and the end of the second quarter, we will see lower prices – especially in Dec 17.
If you bear spread today, you would be profitable so far. I would look at July the plaster if you want to sell but want to take a conservative approach. Be ready to be wrong, do not get emotional and stick to your plan.
