One Wedding, One Funeral and Yet Another Hurricane...

Our niece's wedding sounds like it was just lovely. We weren't invited as it was very small, but it took place in Montana at Glacier National Park. The young couple will now apparently be taking some time to travel the world before settling down.

Dan's uncle's funeral was also nice. Of course, these types of gatherings always fall under the old adage, "it was great to see you, just not under these circumstances." We saw relatives and friends from many eras ago and got to meet some new folks. We also got to see the Steelers stadium all lit up for the big Sunday night game (that's all we'll say about the game itself). This was just before the skies opened up and everyone ran for cover causing a significant delay.

After the funeral, we were able to jump on both our planes with no cancelations, get home in time to pull in all the objects that have the potential to become flying debris, and put up shutters and down the sand bags. We are now ready to hunker down!

Our neighbors just to the north on Cocoa Beach weren't as lucky and a tornado did some damage.

Speaking of plane trips, the Pittsburgh trip was Amy's 1 of 4 and Dan's 1 of 3 air travel destinations in 6 weeks. We are becoming weary travelers, but do have one exciting trip left before we hang up our frequent flyer cards for the year.

If a stadium hangs onto its name for 20 years then that should remain the stadium's name for the remainder of its existence even if the naming sponsor company ceases to exist.

Good Times (Good Times)...

This year's annual pilgrimage to the homeland (Pittsburgh) was yet another good trip. It seemed to center around football, which is apropos for the start of the fall season.

Thursday we arrived at our friends' house, Heather and DJ, just in time for happy hour. We continued the fun at Alexions Bar and Grill, a lifetime staple. Tim & Marcy and Eric & Becky met us there for wings, sammiches and drinks with a large dose of catch-up talk. Although we made a vow to take good pictures, we were too busy to take advantage of all the photo ops. The drinking and talking lasted a good part of the night and it is always great to reconnect with our oldest and dearest friends.

Friday we made the trip back to Crafton and to Aunt Re and Gramma's house. We were soon joined by Aunt E and S in the living room were too many conversations at once kept us busy until our late lunch reservations.

The meal at Leo Greta was excellent. From the appetizers to dessert, we all enjoyed our selections. After lunch, it was time for Friday night lights. Our nephew, Brendan had a game at Blackhawk HS. Matty was able to join the crowd to cheer him on and meet up with us at the same time. After a slow start, the CV Colts come up on top and B played a significant part of the defensive stance.

Saturday was also filled with football shenanigans. It started with a Breakfast of Champions at the house.

By the time we traveled to the tailgate of the Pitt v UNC game, so did Ophelia. The rain only dampened our clothes, but the fun moved on with no issues! We managed to make old connections with a few folks from our pasts and new connections with folks from the 'hood we "kinda know". It was funny as we repeated the phrase, "they look familiar", but when you're away from the 'Burgh for 20 plus years, the memory of introductions fades. The food was awesome and the booze never stopped.

This was our first trip to Acrisure/Heinz Field and it was everything we expected. The Great Hall and Champion's Club were particularly spectacular. We will have to share more photos from our tours of the stadium in another post. The game didn't turn out good for Pitt, but we were happy to see Penn State faired much better in their game.

We returned back, caught a quick sleep, and were back to the airport. The flight home was uneventful and we are definitely happy to be home. Thanks to our friends and family for all the hospitality!
