This is obvious, but bear with me.
2020: publication of Crescent City 1, which introduces the concept of the four Houses of Midgard and how the series titles will mirror them.
2021: A COURT OF SILVER FLAMES (Nesta’s book with Cassian as love interest)
2022: CC2 releases. We find out about upcoming crossover.
2024: HOUSE OF FLAME AND SHADOW (CC3 crossover in which Nesta and Azriel are the main ACOTAR characters)
Double meaning: Nesta is Flame and Azriel is Shadow.
2025 (?): upcoming ACOTAR title. Extremely likely to be A COURT OF [ADJECTIVE] SHADOWS. (Azriel book with Gwyn). The phrase could also be “SHADOWY + NOUN” but I think that looks messier. Nesta’s book also used the plural noun with Flames.
***
Assuming that my 2025 guess is correct, HOFAS is literally bookended by two ACOTAR books with the ✨exact same title word as HOFAS.✨
“But wait,” you say, “this is just a coincidence. HOFAS is named after a House of Midgard, the one with the reapers and necromancers. CC1 was published way before these ACOTAR books. Flame and shadow are super common words!”
I think these titles and book order have been planned for a long time. It’s possible that SJM had shifting ideas when she wrote ACOFAS in 2017, but by the time she wrote CC1 (which clearly introduced multiverse concept with Bryce’s tattoo) in 2018/2019, SJM knew that she wanted Nesta and Az to be the prominent characters in CC3 and the upcoming ACOTAR protagonists. The crossover details may have changed over the years, but Nesta and Az prominence didn’t.
Definition of House of Flame and Shadow: “Daemonaki, Reapers, wraiths, vampyrs, draki, dragons, necromancers, and many wicked and unnamed things that even Urd herself cannot see.”
There is literally no reason why this House HAD to be named Flame and Shadow. The other Midgard houses have elements (Earth, Sky, Waters), but why use the word FLAME specifically? It could’ve been Embers, Blaze, Inferno, etc. SJM could’ve also used “Fire” — it didn’t need to be fancy since House of Many Waters just used Waters.
Same analysis with Shadow. What about that creature classification necessitated the word Shadow? There are lots of natural phenomenon associated with darkness and death and wickedness — the use of Shadow is a deliberate choice.
I genuinely think that this fandom overreaches with the theories. It’s like Taylor Swift — Swifties overthink every Easter egg, but sometimes the answer of the album title is just a giant billboard in a music video.
HOFAS is that giant billboard. SJM is not a complicated writer re: worldbuilding or foreshadowing. It is as simple as “the next ACOTAR books are Nesta and Azriel — what if I represented them in CC3 with the crossover title?” It’s obvious. Setting aside foreshadowing in the actual story, the answer can solely be found in the title.
I love Elucien and know it’s been a long wait, but I’m afraid that the wait is going to be longer than some people hope. I know people think Elain’s book is next but I really don’t see how that’s the case. Not interested in debating or explaining the Gwynriel ship rationale since there’s a million other posts out there.
Re: Azriel’s title being A COURT OF [ADJECTIVE] SHADOWS. I’ve seen people on all sides of the ship war suggest that the adjective be related to the heroine (Gwyn or Elain). I really don’t think so. The title will solely focus on Az, just like how SILVER FLAMES solely focused on Nesta. It could be MELODIC SHADOWS or WHISPERING SHADOWS or something else. But the adjective will fit an ability that we’ve already seen from Az’s shadows (we know they whisper to Az and can sing). Similarly, Elucien book title will solely focus on Elain. Cassian and Gwyn and Lucien are extremely important characters, but they won’t be represented in the title.

Maybe this is just me, but I feel like the acotar writing community on here can be a bit cliquey? It makes me nervous to try and branch out
i can totally see where you’re coming from! it’s definitely a bit intimidating starting off 🥹 what i will say is most people i know on here are super supportive and excited to make more friends! we’re all lil writers after all. if you’re ever nervous, my dms and asks are always open!! i love love love talking to people and i’m always here to listen and bounce ideas off of or just yap :) (and i like to think im nice to talk to? i hope tehe)
i talk about my mutuals a lot but it’s in no way meant to be cliquey! i’ve gotten to know them all by engaging with their works, supporting them (& vice versa), and legit just brain dumping in dms haha. it’s nice bc you already have something to bond about! (fictional hot people!!)& im mutuals with them because of how inviting, supportive, talented, kind, and funny they are! and im so sure they’d love to hear from you too <3 reach out to some of them if youd ever like!🫶🏻🫶🏻

I couldn’t reblog this normally since I have the og poster blocked, but this is a pretty common sentiment in the community that I want to put my comment on:
Now I’m not gonna sit here and argue that there aren’t people who like Feyre more in the first book and consider her to be “better”, because people do, and I think it’s valid to think that as well as valid to not think that. To clarify I think neither, but more on that later. This is also a decently long post, I tried to make it concise but it’s anything but that 💀
I think comparing her character in the first book to her sisters (this post is specifically Nesta, but I’ve seen it done with Elain) is purely made in bad faith. Equating them in this manner blatantly ignores the obvious differences in characterization and nuance in their writing.
It is widely known that SJM has said that Elain and Nesta were just made to be caricatures and cartoon evil sisters and that she didn't initially plan for them to become anything more than background characters. They were meant to be flat and evil, because that’s all the purpose they had at the time. They were there to give Feyre a hard time and make us sympathize with her, and they did that.
No one is saying that that it’s silly to get hung up on Nesta’s actions because they “happened a long time ago and she had development”, they’re saying that because her actions were literally meant to be cartoonishly evil and not to have any actual depth or reasoning to them.
However, Feyre at the time was still a fleshed character that was supposed to be in the spotlight. Her character traits and depth were continuously shown off, whereas her sisters only existed to give her a backstory and struggle. Her character in the first book cannot be written off to the same degree as her sisters, and it’s false equivalency to think that it can be.
At the time the way Nesta and Elain was written was fine, but in deciding to change them to be actual characters with thoughts, feelings, and backstory, Sarah majorly fucked herself over. This is why she had to retcon things and add their own struggles later on and why you’ll see a lot of people defending them for their cabin actions; and as a side of the fandom who take her retcons as canon, you can’t pick and choose which ones you don’t want to take as canon solely because they change the your notion of the character. It’s a packaged deal, either you’re down with SJM’s narrative and story, or you’re not (I’m not), because guess what? The other characters around said character will also comply by these retcons.
But when you hammer it down so hard that these girls are horrible people in the first book because you couldn’t give the time of day to make sure you’re actually creating a cohesive storyline, rather than just trying to push out a character for people to immediately sympathize with, it’s hard to rectify that, and I often find it the mark of a bad writer (and poor planner) regardless if you weren’t planning on ACOTAR being a series.
I 100% understand Nesta hate, it’s hard to change your idea of a character when you’ve already been made to dislike them and like the character they initially antagonized. If she, or any other character, is not your cup of tea, that’s fine. Like what you like. Hate what you hate (assuming you stay in your lanes and tag correctly, which many of you do not do, and instead tag specifically to push your anti content into pro spaces and make people mad, but that’s a different topic) u, this circles back to my original point that you cannot equate the validity of the characters and writing of Nesta and Elain to Feyre in the first book.
Now do I agree that Feyre was her '"true self" in book 1 vs the others? No.
I think a lot of people, and a lot of antis, earlier Feyre lovers, and probably some of my mutuals, will disagree with me on this, but Feyre's character progression has always made sense to me. That's not necessarily to say that I like it, but considering her circumstances, the people around her, the environment, and her own personality and beliefs, her change and progression from ACOTAR to ACOSF makes total sense to me. I do think there's some inconsistencies, and I definitely think there’s a lot of situations where ACOTAR Feyre would react differently than later Feyre, but that’s just a product of her being a character with an arc and overall I can understand how she got from point A to point B.
I won't get into the details here, but if anyone's curious on why I think so, Imk, l'd love to talk about it
There’s also a good chance that the original poster of this will try to argue my way directly from my account, which is weird because I have you blocked, so I won’t see it, nor do I care to… so don’t? Idk man, save your energy, the stalking is crazy
#sjm critical#nesta archeron#elain archeron#pro nesta#pro elain#feyre critical#To be CLEAR#this post is not actually critical of her in any fashion#but I don't want a spam of the group of crazy pro Fe/yes attacking me for having the gall to defend her sisters#nesta archeron deserves better#pro nesta archeron#elain archeron deserves better

I wanna start a blog but I’m not sure how to start off, I know I want to write and have some vague ideas but not sure what to do.
Any ideas or tips?
Alright get comfy I have so many things to say.
Above ALL. ELSE. for the love of god, do not give in to the pressure to constantly write. One day things will click on Tumblr, and asks and requests will start flooding in. You’re gonna get hundreds of likes and comments asking for more parts and whatnot. Do. Not. Give. In. To. The. Pressure. You’re going to get really excited, like “oh my god, finally I’m getting noticed and appreciated let me give them more!!” No. You will get burnt out and will hate it. Do it on your own time, whenever you want. Write what YOU want. Use that excitement in a way that has a positive impact on your work.
When it comes to planning what to write, just keep it simple. It doesn’t have to be some elaborate top to bottom detailed guide. I personally just use bullet points. And trust me, none of it has to be cohesive. It can literally just look like this:
Reader goes to a party
Azriel is standing mysteriously in the corner
They catch eyes from across the room
Reader is dancing with friends, and some rando dude comes up and starts feeling up on them
Reader tells him to back off
He doesn’t
Readers friend goes to intervene
Azriel comes from the corner and takes the guy outside to show him what happens when you disrespect a woman
Az makes sure you and your friend are okay
You two get talking and plan to go on a date
It can just be something like that. Or sometimes the best plan is no plan and see where your brain takes you. Whatever you do, just make sure you’re writing it because YOU want to write it. That it’s the kind of context you’d like to read, and everything else will fall into place with time.
3. Write whatever you’re feeling. If you’re sad, write whatever you need to make yourself feel better. Whether that’s fluff, angst, or something else. If you want to be comforted, write something about a character taking care of you. If you’re angry, write a crazy betrayal. It is just you, your mind, and google docs.
4. Don’t be worried if your writing doesn’t INSTANTLY take off. THATS just not how shit happens here. And here’s a little tip, depending on your timezones, you’ll want to post at different times. I’ve found that posting later in the evening, at like 6-8pm on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday will yield the best results. It’s when people are settling in for the night and want to relax and read some good shit. But honestly, post whenever, people will find it.
5. Make yourself a rules/who you write for and post it on your masterlist. By all means, go ahead and look at mine for inspiration. When you find your audience, they will ask for more. Let them know what/who you’re comfortable writing for.
6. MAKE FRIENDS. Having some support when you’re stuck on a plot point and don’t know where to go from there is so nice!! We have such an amazing community of writers here and I have made lifelong friends on this app. Everyone has their own bits of advice they could give and having a different perspective or fresh set of eyes is really helpful.
7. Model what you see. Everyone has to start their writing journey somewhere. I’m not sure if you’ve ever written fanfiction before, but the first couple you put out there are definitely not going to be your best work. And be okay knowing that. The more you read, the more styles of writing you look at to develops your own is how you get to that sweet spot where everything you write is consistent and good quality. It could take months and years, it certainly took me a long fucking time to be able to produce the work I do, and that’s just how it goes. I’m proud of the work I post, no matter if it’s for Suits or ACOTAR, I love everything I put out. Be patient with yourself and allow room for mistakes.
8. Have a note in your phone for all your random ideas you come up with while out and about. Happens to me ALLL the time. I constantly have new ideas and having one collection of them all, that’s easy to access anywhere, is so smart.
9. Let’s talk about the layout of your blog!! The number one thing you should have is a masterlist! A collection of all your links to your writing. Take a look at mine and any of your other favorite writers to see what aspects you like/dislike. It should be organized and easy on the eyes, try not to have a billion things on there that are unnecessary. You can link who/what you write, all your fics, and whatever else you wanna post about!! Whether your requests are open or closed. Stuff like that. Make it to your aesthetic and exactly what you want. It’s like decorating your room, it can be anything.
10. Last but certainly not least, welcome to the tumblr writing community. We are so excited to have you here love, and I cannot wait to see all the amazing work you put out. If you’re nervous, don’t be!! We’re all here to lift each other up and help along the way. If you ever have questions, feel free to reach out!! All of us had to start somewhere. We know what it’s like to spend weeks and months posting stuff to only get 30-40 likes. But it’ll happen one day. With one re-blog everything will change, you just have to be patient
I’m going to tag some of my besties and hopefully they’ll re-blog or comment some of their advice and welcome you in!!

Fanfic writer tagging game!
Describe your writing process from idea to posting/publishing
It’s really not complex, I usually start writing the requests the next day after I receive them, and then I reply to the request and let the anon know whether I’ll be writing it or not (90% of the time I am). Then I write a really rough draft, read through it twice, then post either right then and there or schedule it :)
Are you a plotter or a pantser?
A mix of both? If it’s a long fic I’m a plotter through and through, but if it’s just a little drabble I write specifically on vibes lmao.
What do you listen to when you are writing?
Okay—DON’T MAKE FUN OF ME, but I have an Eris playlist (literally just Hozier, Noah Kahan, and Jeff Buckley) that I listen to when writing for him—but other than that, I’m normal and I listen to r&b or indie stuff!
What’s your drink of choice (while writing)?
Water. I genuinely think water is the best drink and I will die on this hill, nothing compares to an ice cold glass of water in the middle of the night (or any other time).
Promote yourself! What’s your favorite thing you’ve written?
Okay this was hard because I love (most) of my fics, they’re like all my children. But, I’d say Gifts and Debts is definitely up there, I had fun toying with the formatting and I ended up loving the way it turned out! But I’ve written what feels like hundreds of Az fics, so to switch it up I’d say my current favorite is Shun the Light, it was just so entertaining to write for Helion’s character and a close mutual of mine requested it so it was awesome being able to bounce ideas off each other since she’s sooo smart :)
Share a fic of yours that you think is underrated/deserves more love.
Anything in Eris week!! I adored writing for every prompt but it didn’t get as much recognition as I hoped for which is okay! But my favorite from the week was probably day seven if you want to check a specific one out :)
Do you have any advice for new writers?
Write anything and everything that gives you an idea down before you forget!!! You see a cute guy at a coffee shop and get an idea for a coffee au? WRITE IT DOWN. I have an entire notes folder full of random ideas that have turned into full fics.
What is a writing style/technique that others do really well that you'd like to get better at?
Second person pov. It’s the most basic requirement in (x reader) fanfic writing and some part of me just doesn’t have the motor skills to do it, like at all. I’ve tried and I end up reverting back to first person every time 😭😭
Is there a character you were surprised you enjoyed writing as much as you did?
Rhysand!! Rhys is rarely requested but I love toying with his character, while he’s the most known acotar male he’s also one of the most complex. There’s so much to explore within his character and I love writing for him! Especially a young Rhys, I really want to write a blood rite fic just haven’t gotten around to doing it. One of my favorite Rhys fics can be accessed here -> link.
Thank you sm for the tag @prythianpages I love doing these!!
No pressure tags: @dee-writes-smut and @lexluvswriting 💙💙

ACOTAR anyone?
Heyo! 25 year old female writer here. I’m eighteen plus so please please please ensure you are before writing to me! Now about me, I do work but on a part time basis, quick fire would be nice but I can’t always be here. So you may see me post more depending on what ideas I’ve got and what cravings I have. But with my time off you can guarantee I’ll be posting more! I do prefer discord to conduct roleplays purely for the purpose of being able to keep things more organised! So I’m looking for those of you who can use third person, past tense and lots of detail. I’m just getting to a point where doubles feel transactional, I’d like to do something for myself where I can :). I’m not fussy with pairings I basically pair with any of the high fae and Illyrians aha. I have multiple ocs I’ve been working on for this verse and would love the opportunity to try them out. The characters I would be searching for are: Lucien, Rhysand, Cassian, Tam and Az. At a push I could do Tarquin my only concern with him is plot opportunity. I’d kill for a well written Cassian right now, ideally with someone who has read the fifth book.
I’d love our roleplay to be something of comfort to us both. Something to cheer us up and keep us engaged in the story! If you’ve got any wild ideas you’ve been dying to do for the below fandoms send them my way if it’s doubles I’ll do my best to accommodate them! I feel like Sarah’s latest projects Acosf Hosab and Hofas have felt kinda different from the og acotar books and the throne of glass series, tho i don’t know if it’s maybe just me connecting them less. I was entertained with all three. Especially with acosf which I don’t think it suffered as much as the cc books. But in all three Sarah’s writing feels off.
Now I’m no specialist in criticising English books in depth but I think you said once you’ve studied literature and that’s why you make mostly analyses of the text.
So I was wondering what’s your take on this, if you’ve noticed it too or not and if yes why or how you believe the writing is off
I've been having a lot of conversations about this with people and we had different ideas, though none of them are certain.
I think that the crossover played to Sarah's weaknesses and took away from her time to write to her strengths. I think that she's at her best when she is delving into characters and emotions, and at her least effective when she's trying to do all this big plot and world stuff.
The points in her series where you can see people starting to wonder what the hell is going on, is where you can see her trying to manipulate the plot in order to set up other stories she wants to tell. The best examples of this are acowar and the acosf/hofas arc. acotar was originally going to be a trilogy and then she manipulated acowar to set up more stories. CC was going to be a trilogy until she came up with the crossover and decided to set up more stories. If she could just stick with her original plans, everything would go much better. The points at which she decides to expand the world or plot or characters, those are the places where she begins to falter. (Some people I think would include HoF in this, but I do not.)
Sarah's writing style is to not outline - she is on record saying that she does not do extensive world building, that she isn't good at it, that she doesn't outline, that she let's the story take her where it will. All of those are fine, valid ways to write! However, they make it nearly impossible for her to pull this crossover off successfully. You absolutely cannot go about such a massive undertaking and just bang out 100k words in a week, or whatever ridiculous pace she worked at this time, and have it make sense.
She is also on record saying that the crossover came to her while she was writing hosab. That means she was thousands of pages into acotar and hundreds of pages into CC before she decided to do this huge, series-altering thing. That's... not just poor planning, it's a recipe for disaster. This is why there are inconsistencies, the weird pacing, and dropped plots from hosab. It was too much and she's not the kind of writer who can take on those sorts of tasks and make it still compelling and cohesive. She just isn't.
One of my big concerns about the crossover was the genre shift - CC being urban fantasy and ACOTAR being high fantasy meant that it wasn't going to fit together. There was going to be some friction, no matter how good a writer took it on (and imo a better writer would have known that and not done it in the first place). It's not that it can't be done, it's just that both series need to have an equally strong foundation to work from. The world building in CC was much more intense than it was in acotar, and so trying to fit those two together was trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.
ToG never suffers from this because Sarah never tried to make it something it wasn't. She always had a clear vision of what kind of person Aelin was and why, and even though she doesn't outline, I would bet a lot of money that when she started writing ToG, she knew that at the end, Aelin was going to end up happy and on the throne of her own kingdom.
Also - and I'm sorry, I know that I am babbling haha but since your question was about acosf/hosab/hofas specifically, I do think that urban fantasy is not Sarah's genre. She clearly reads it, but... it's not the genre for displaying her strengths as a writer. All of the swearing and sex and drug use had me rolling my eyes constantly because she was just beating us over the head with how hardcore and adult the characters are.
So there are a couple of things, really, that made those three books feel off in comparison to the rest of them:
urban fantasy is not Sarah's genre,
the crossover took her energy and attention away from her strengths (emotion, character) and made her emphasize her weaknesses (plot, world)
It feels like we are watching her become a worse writer, and not better. I'm going to chalk it up to her experimenting a little bit with hofas and it not panning out. Optimistic!Lele says that now that this is out of sjm's system, we can go back to our regularly-scheduled emotional journeys with some magic stuff sprinkled in. Pessimistic!Lele doesn't trust sjm farther than she can throw her.
All of this has made me really nervous to read anything ToG-related that she might come up with in the future. I would love more ToG content from 2016 Sarah. 2024 Sarah? I'm honestly not that interested in more canon ToG stuff from her.
Sorry this got long, and I'm not even sure how cohesive all of this is, it's just been on my mind since I finished hofas!

hey there, i'd be really interested in finding out more about your writing process. how do you start? how do you draft? where do you get ideas from? do you have any tips on how to stay focused on a story? i hope this isn't too much, i'm just curious!
Definitely not too much, don’t feel bad at all! Let me break down each question. Every writer has very different things that work for them, and it’s okay if whatever you do isn’t like what I do!
1. How do you start?
Usually one of two things will happen. I’ll either get an overarching idea and I will say “okay I need to write down these ideas”. I will then maybe write a quick summary of what I want. I did this with one of my recent fics, Domestic deceptions. I wrote down a bulleted list of what I wanted, so it looked similar to this:
Something else I do a lot is I create a conversation or a specific scene I want and I write that down. Usually when I write dialogue I write just the dialogue, with very minimal descriptions outside of that. Then I come back later and fill in gaps. After writing this scene, I will build everything else around it.
A good example of this is my fic ‘you’re losing me’. I knew I wanted to end it with that gut wrenching line from the song “I wouldn’t marry me either”. So from that I had to build and nestle the insecurities to get that punch. I wrote that fic around two things - that ending line and the knowledge that Azriel wants to feel like he belongs, like he’s accepted, and he doesn’t feel good enough for anything. So I wrote him getting lost in his work - missing dates, missing any info about what she’s been doing, neglecting her needs.
This is actually how I write most of my fics bc most of my fics don’t really have plot. It’s a lot of dialogue.
2. How do you draft?
This depends heavily on plot. If I’m doing something plot heavy and I know how I want it to flow, I usually make a numeric list of what I want to happen. I do this as I go too. Then I start writing from that list. I start filling in scenes from the list, and I focus on the things on that list. Then I look it over and think about how the flow - do I need to add more? I’m trying to convey something (e.g that a character is in love with another character) - do I have enough to convince someone else of this? Or would a small scene do well to connect and tell more about them?
Sometimes if the plot isn’t too intense or difficult I do just write from the beginning to the end and then I do edits to make sure it sounds good and flows well.
3. Where do you get ideas from?
Everywhere. I’ve gotten them from books, from tv shows, from driving my car and letting my mind wander. A lot of times I get ideas from what we know of the world of ACOTAR. For instance I’ve written at least two fics about the bond and how food plays a role in accepting it, so like what if one person knows about and the other doesn’t? I just like exploring possibilities in the world.
Sometimes my ideas come from thinking about the characters. A lot of my Eris fics come from thinking about his trauma. Like okay, yes he’s killed Beron. But he spent five centuries under him, he won’t just magically be accepting of himself and open and willing to share. What kind of situations does this put him in? What kind of problems can this cause when he does experience love?
4. Do you have any tips on how to stay focused on a story?
This one’s really difficult as I have a hard time focusing on one story. I think this just depends on how you write. I write like I read - I have 8 million drafts going at once, and I hardly am ever just reading less than 4 books at a time.
Something I do is float around a couple drafts for a bit, adding here and there to each of them, until one of them either is fleshed out enough for me to get super excited or one of them just grips me. I have plenty of fics that have just been dropped bc they just weren’t working or I got in a rut with it.
Sometimes I have to let fics sit on the backburner a bit. I did that with ‘his shadows know’, but I knew I wanted to come back to it eventually
Hope this settles your curiosity! If not feel free to ask more 🥰

Hello ACOTAR fanfic writer! This fanbase appreciates your creativity and passion for these characters and ships, and you did such an amazing job with writing this year! The year is coming to an end, and I wanna ask:
What is your new year’s resolution for writing?
What are some of your tips for fanfic writing?
What was your favorite thing you’ve written this year?
Feel free to send this to your favorite fellow writers to spread the love and new year’s cheer🎉🪩
hi omg exciting thank u for this :D
honestly, the new year’s resolution is just to keep writing. i usually get tired of a hobby in like 3 months and move onto something else, so the fact that i’ve been active on this blog for 5 months makes me very happy :) i just wanna keep making my little stories :)
i wrote out a MASSIVE paragraph of mess, so i’m gonna try to organize it some and just walk through MY specific writing process.
i really do recommend word vomiting. if there’s a specific sentence i write out and i know what i'm trying to say but it’s kinda shitty, i highlight it and leave a comment on it to improve the structure, vocab, etc, and keep going. oh and if i can’t remember a word i'm trying to use i will literally in the middle of a sentence just go AAAAAAAAA so that it underlines in red and i don’t miss it when i go back lol i'm realizing now how goofy that is
after i finish, i go back through it, and address the highlighted parts and fill in the AAAAAAA’s with the word i want. while i do that, if i think of something else i wanna add, like more info in a scene or dialogue ideas, i'll add that as a comment on that paragraph so i can go back and write it in on my next passthrough
rinse and repeat lol my fics are the product of: word vomit -> make notes -> address the notes and make more notes -> repeat step 3 until i don’t have anymore notes :)
as for my favorite thing i've written this year, i wanna say the bat boys band au i wrote yesterday, but that might just be recency bias so i'm gonna say Unveiled Pleasures, a Rhysand x Reader i wrote for kinktober (yes this was my way of picking two lol)

I’ve heard the idea in writing theory about throwing stones at your characters for their development and so they can change and after reading chapter 24, I just had the thought that you throw literal boulders at the characters but it feels so authentic? Like I keep thinking damn your character really can’t catch a break and her reaction to them is easy to understand I guess? I’m not articulating this well bc I’m up past my bedtime on a work night but I’m just trying to say I think you’re an incredible writer. Your work is so rich and your character development for not just the reader but also Bas and all the little side characters is amazing. I hope you look back at your own work and are proud of yourself! 🫶🏻
Throwing boulders at them omg
I mean, I guess I agree, looking at how ch. 24 went :')
'I’m not articulating this well bc I’m up past my bedtime on a work night'
Oh my goodness please I hope you caught some sleep and that it was sufficient!! I know that feeling all too well of having to wake up before you're really ready to, and just feeling so awful the next day if I have to do any amount of thinking! :')
(I am currently also up past my bedtime as I have to get up in a little under eight hours)
'Your work is so rich and your character development for not just the reader but also Bas and all the little side characters is amazing.'
Thank you this means so much to me because I do continuously worry about how I'm characterising the characters :')
I constantly worry over Azriel particularly, since he's so quiet in the acotar series :') But I am so, so, SO, pleased to hear that you feel Bas did have an interesting character and wasn't just a mildly annoying fill-in spot! <3

💘 Is it easier to write angst or fluff?
It’s easier for me to write angst. Sometimes, I worry my fluff can be too cheesy or unrealistic 😅
🎬 If a movie or show were based on your fic, which fic would you choose and who would you fancast?
I would chose my Rhys’s sister oc x Az series (ACOSM.) In general, I think it’d be cool to see ACOTAR pre-Amarantha’s rule since there’s so much history between all the characters we love, especially the friendship Rhys & Tam had. I also need more Lucien from the first book
However, when it comes to fancasting the bat boys, I don’t know 😭 I know some have humored the idea of Richard Deiss as Rhys and while he’s handsome, I’m not 100% sold on the idea. Same with Cas & Can Yaman. As for Az, I have no clue lol. If they ever do make a live action series of ACOTAR, I hope they pick actors who are not well known yet. I think an animated series might suit ACOTAR more though. For Valeria, I would say Anya Charlotra since I’ve based her character off of The Witcher’s Yennefer. For Rhy’s mom, I tend to picture her as Indira Varma (especially from her role as Ellaria Sand from GOT.)
📚 Is there a fanfic or fanfic writer you recommend?
Omg there’s so many amazing writers on here! I love anything they write: @stormhearty @hellodarling1357 @daycourtofficial @azsazz @acourtofwhatthefuck @assassinsblade @writingcroissant @thehighladywrites and these are just a few tbh, there’s a lot more! ❤️
I do have a side blog @eminvelaris where I reblog some of my fav fics ☺️ (it’s mainly ACOTAR but I do reblog fics from other fandoms as well.)
this ask came from this ask game, feel free to send one if you’d like!

I have to say i ADORE the way you write and i root for every single piece you publish and i actually would like to start writing too so sorry if its a bit weird, but do you have any advise i could use?
Thank you so much lovie! That means so much to me, seriously!
I feel like I’m not the best advice but I’ll try my best. Some of these are taken from other posts I’ve made about writing advice but I’m consolidating them all here and will add this to the bottom of my masterlist for all to use! 💙
Starting with an idea:
So, first you want to start with an idea. Not just any idea, start with one that has you really excited and eager to write. I find when forcing myself to write something I’m not into it takes a lot longer and I don’t enjoy the process, but when I’m super excited about an idea I can bust out 5k in one night.
Let the idea flow until you run out of things to say. I have a running list on my phone of snippets or ideas for future fics, even if they’re just one liners or a description of how the character feels while being eyed up by a potential lover. WRITE IT DOWN. Even if you don’t end up using it, you’ll have the thought.
Don’t force it:
Like I mentioned above, don’t force yourself. If you write it and it’s not going in the direction you wanted it to go in, don’t worry. It’s okay to start an idea and not finish it. It’s okay to start an idea and it goes in a different direction. It’s okay to start a fic and go back and rewrite aspects to make what you wanted to happen, happen. No one is going to fault you for not posting or updating or even finishing a wip that doesn’t live anywhere other than your docs.
If you start a fic and get bored of it, that’s okay. I have multiple WIPs that I’ve abandoned because I don’t know where they’re going. Sometimes I post fics in parts because I don’t have a finished story and the support I get from my followers helps me regain passion for that fic.
Planning your fics:
My good friend @writingsbychlo made this awesome breakdown of planning/writing/editing your fics.
Really pay attention to your favorite stories. Look at how the sentences are structured, how the author describes certain feelings or their surroundings. You want there to be intention behind what you’re saying, otherwise why are you adding it in? Describe the kiss, describe why the character feels the way that they do. Describe the surroundings. I struggle with inner monologues of characters sometimes but it’s okay if it’s not perfect.
Not feeling confident in posting:
If you really are unsure, ask a friend to read it or find someone in the fandom to give you feedback! Not a necessary step but it could help.
Remember, you WILL get better! Trust me on this one.
DON’T focus on how many likes or comments or kudos or whatever it may be the reason that you’re doing this. It’s nice to see that people are enjoying your work but first and foremost you should be doing it for you! Because you love to do it!
Warning: Writer’s block:
If you have writer’s block, leave it. Just step back, work on something else or give yourself time to breathe. It’s okay, trust me. There’s no schedule that you have to set for yourself to follow. You can post when you want, and what you want. It’s YOUR decision.
Writing Resources:
Tumblr is a fantastic resource for ideas, writing tips. Switch up your verbs. Color dictionary. Words to describe facial expressions. Looking for prompts? Just search what you’re looking for on tumblr and there is bound to be something to help you out.
Sentence starters are also a great help. Or looking up names for places, titles, ideas. The internet is very handy.
I also have a doc that I’ll link here with things I’ve found on tumblr to help me when writing certain scenes, facial expressions, how to describe things, etc.
Don’t be afraid to do research. Look back at the books, look at the ACOTAR wiki, do what you need to to feel confident in your writing. I’ve looked deeply into Cupid mythology for Cupid’s Chokehold and I do not regret it one bit, it helps foster new ideas.
A thesaurus and dictionary are your best friends.
There are also websites to help you out with spelling and grammar should you need it. Grammarly offers a free version where you can copy and paste your fic and it will suggest fixes for more cohesive writing.
Writing Angst:
You have to decide what you want to happen. What is the problem, and is there a solution? I think part of the angst is leaving the fic off a a point where there’s still so much that could happen, so many ways that it could end up that it has the reader scrambling to figure it out, wanting more (half of my fics end like this haha I’m so sorry).
So once you have the problem, write about it. Write about everything you can. How the character is feeling, what they’re thinking. Put yourself in the characters shoes…build it up, the swirl of emotions that the character is feeling; dread, nerves, etc.
How the other characters look and feel. How are they responding to what’s happening before them? What do they look like they’re feeling? Does character B have a bob to their throat, giving them away? How does the space that they’re in feel? Are they pushed so close that their heaving chests are brushing with each breath? Is she so impossibly angry at him that she can’t even speak? Is he so in love with her that it physically hurts? Feels like he’s being stabbed in the side with a poisoned blade but yet he can’t admit it?
You can describe their surroundings. How thick the air is in the room, the twitch of their fingers itching to curl into fists, swallowing the emotion thick in their throats.
You want to evoke emotion in the reader, make them feel something. You want them to yearn like the character is or smile when something happens or tear up when something utterly devastating happens.
Write about everything and you can always go back and delete the things that don’t fit or aren’t as important to the story.
Most importantly:
Don't compare yourself to others. Don’t feel down because you think someone writes better than you or you can’t just get your words to flow like they do. You’re not doing this for competition. 💙
Your writing will get better with each fic you write, this I promise.

ACOTAR Writing Circle 3
Hello friends! After seeing several people answer “yes” on the Summer Writing Circle poll, I’m here with the info post:
This is the third edition: the concept is simple, a writer starts a fic, someone else writes the second part, and someone else writes the third.
Check out the masterlists for the first and second writing circle if you want to see what’s been written in the past!
There is no limit to the number of people who can participate. Each writer will start a fic, then write the second and third parts to different ones. There will be as many fics as there are writers involved.
If you’re interested, please read the rest of this post and fill out the form at the end!
How will it work?
Ideally, each fic will follow basic lines
Part 1: Sets the scene and potential events Part 2: Main events unfold Part 3: Resolution
The minimum word count for each part is 1500 words. There is no maximum.
Writers of the first two parts of each fic must leave it with a loose end to allow the next person to continue it.
Each work will be tagged “acotarwritingcircle”
I will make a general masterlist to link every part to every fic
Are there restrictions?
This is for everyone, there are no rules in terms of ships involved, whatever makes your heart happy will do
I’ve had new writers say they were too intimidated to participate before so please know this is open to absolutely everyone! The mix of styles and ideas are what makes this fun, and everyone who has participated in the past has been incredibly nice!
I will need to know which ships you are willing to write about to make sure there are at least 3 people willing to participate on that fic
Based on the amount of writers involved and their comfort zones, 18+ content may not be allowed in some fics.
Be kind! The main purpose of this event is fun
When will it take place?
Once I have enough answers, I will communicate with everyone involved to let them know what ship they will write their first part for
Ideally, the first part of each fic will be posted in June. This is subject to change depending on the writers involved.
If you’re interested, please fill out this FORM so that I can get an idea of who will participate and for what ships!
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to send an ask or just dm me <3
Lastly, please reblog this to spread the info to as many people as possible!!

Do you have any advice for making yourself just sit down and write?
I really want to start writing again (I have not written since high school[and I’m old]) and I have so many ideas in my head but for some reason I can’t make myself write them. It’s not even writers block. It’s like fear? And not even fear about the quality of the writing. I’m super delulu and think I’ll be good at everything on the first try 😅
It’s like stage fright over writing even if it’s only for myself. I think if I can just make myself start I’ll find a groove. But I can’t make myself start.
Hey anon!
First of all "I'm super delulu and think I'll be good at everything on the first try" - Hello are you me? LMAO, this is me and my big, unnerving ego. I'm always like "oh, I think I'd fucking EAT." Even counter to evidence.
First, I want to say I relate a lot to the state you are in now. I wrote a ton when I was younger. First original stuff as a pre-teen/teen and then when I was around 16, I started writing fanfic regularly in my first fandom. I would say I wrote and posted (though I've deleted a lot of these fics since then) regularly from 2006-2012. I then had some pretty big life altering stuff happen, and I only wrote very sparingly up until late 2023 after I finished ACOTAR.
I've always thought of myself as a "writer" but during those 10 years where I wasn't really writing (fiction that is. I was writing plenty as an academic scientist going through graduate school, postdoc, and then the few years of adjuncting trying to keep my career afloat) I kind of thought that it was all just something I used to do. And then I got a new obsession with Elucien and felt like "oh, I can definitely write about this." And here I am. And I think I'm doing really well. I've really shown myself that being a writer never really leaves you. You just need the motivation, space in your life, and some discipline to do it.
Okay, but to your question, how to get started writing? Well, the answer is truly "just start writing". Which sounds like I'm blowing you off, but I think I have a few tips that might help you.
Take those daydreams that you keep having to chase away the crazy pain of life and jot down little details about them. Don't think of it as you're writing the story down. Maybe you're just making a bulleted list of the things you like to fixate on. Maybe it's capturing a cute moment with a few vibey words. Maybe you're really inspired and you write out a outline of a basic plot. Some of these may end up becoming a story down the line as you build momentum.
And if you do feel the urge, just sit down and write 100 words of a scene. No one is watching. No one will read it. It's just you and your computer. Who cares if it's fragmented sentences and half baked thoughts? And then when you return to it, maybe you realize "Oh, I could add some here, and maybe a bit there." And suddenly you're actually writing out a one-shot.
I also highly recommend looking up prompts for when you feel like your ideas are tapped out or you need just a little push to get the ball rolling.
For me, I have also made it a point to write a little bit each day or every other day. Some days nothing will happen and that's okay. But now that I've started again, writing has become a rush for me. I've really found myself again. I had such an identity crisis during the pandemic. I became a mom completely alone and isolated from friends and family. I became disillusioned with becoming a professor which I had been working towards since I was 18. And sure enough, coming back to this hobby that I did in my teens/early twenties really grounded me in the person I always have known. I just needed something that was only mine to have again.
I hope you can start that journey too, anon! And if you ever want to come off anon and chat, my DMs are always open!
#anon asks#writing advice#i sprained my ankle so i'm stuck in bed for the forseeable future#so this ask came at the perfect time#i should probably be writing

Heyo! 24 year old female writer here. I’m eighteen plus so please please please ensure you are before writing to me! Now a little about me, I do work, quick fire would be nice but I can’t always be here. So you may see me post more depending on what ideas I’ve got and what cravings I have. But with my time off you can guarantee I’ll be posting more! Just a heads up I’m looking for clean roleplays! I do prefer discord to conduct roleplays purely for the purpose of being able to keep things more organised! My discord is eleanorwinchester
So I’m looking for those of you who can use third person, past tense and lots of detail. I say this not to be mean but because I do consider myself to be advanced literate, I expect potential partners to be the same! I’m looking for oc (me) x male canon characters from the above movies but I will enclose further fandoms and movies with in the post! I use third and past tense and would be grateful if you do too! Please note I do have dyslexia. I’d love to get some aus going as well as some love triangles. Doubles are welcome! But please note ALL my roleplays are doubles. I will be prioritising those of you who don’t want to double and are happy to play canons. I’m just getting to a point where doubles feel transactional, I’d like to do something for myself where I can :).
I’m also craving the Sherlock, Shadowhunters, A Court of Thorns and roses, Supernatural, My Life With the Walter Boys and Hunger Games (originals and prequel),at the moment as well! I’d honestly kill for someone to play Dean Winchester atm. I think he’s a really well written character and I have some ocs who may work with him.
I’d love our roleplay to be something of comfort to us both. Something to cheer us up and keep us engaged in the story! If you’ve got any wild ideas you’ve been dying to do for the below fandoms send them my way if it’s doubles I’ll do my best to accommodate them! If there’s a character in brackets that’s who I’m looking to ship with, I need you to play them!
Fandoms I seek include:
Saltburn (Felix)
Downton Abbey (Tom)
ACOTAR (Cassian, Rhys)
Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte
Merlin (bbc show)
Shadowhunters (Jace, Julian, Mark)- PLEASE I BEG?
Sherlock (Sherlock)
