Are you still doing d20 hot takes? These are admittedly lukewarm (some salsa that everyone at the table can enjoy).
1) I watch for the character arcs/development, not the story, so I really enjoyed Neverafter.
2) Both campaigns set in Calorum have been really hard to get into, even though they’re really good. But I also don’t like GoT so maybe that’s on me.
3) Hard agree with everyone who said they don’t really want sequel campaigns. I would, however, be down for the odd one shot a la holiday MisMag or Boys’ Night.
4) Coffin Run is so slept on, it’s not even funny. Jasmine’s props, the letters, the Dracula wings lighting, gorgeous sets & minis, incredible RP all around, great bits, all the campy horror movie references… Truly one of my faves.
5) I really wanna see Aabria or another guest DM do a full length/over 10 eps season. I feel like Aabria’s DM style would do well with a few more eps so she can explore more. And it would just be nice to hang out with a guest DM a bit more.
6) Confession: Never finished UC2 or Pirates =< UC2 was hard to pick up with less likeable characters (to me) + feeling like Chap 1 wrapped up so nicely + I’m bad with interpersonal conflict. And then I never got past the start of ep 1 of Pirates cause bad British accents is my pet peeve and B Dave’s character was first introduced 😭
oh i'm ALWAYS here for d20 hot takes. (god i love sam says that was so fucking funny, especially because what lou then gave was the most mild gossip i've ever heard)
1- completely valid. and to a large extent, i do too- i did ultimately enjoy the season, primarily because i love the characters so much.
2- skill issue. calorum campaigns slay absolute penis. (for real though totally fair, they're not for everyone. but i do think it's interesting in conjunction with watching for character arcs/development, bc i think acoc in particular is one of the best with that)
3- ooh yes one-shots are a different thing entirely, always a fun time.
4- coffin run FUCKS. my favorite non-intrepid heroes campaign, and it's only acofaf that comes sort of close. everyone needs to watch it, and if they've already watched it and don't appreciate it, they should try again. i could talk forever about it and how great it is.
5- yes. a million times yes please give us 20 episodes with aabria gming i'm begging. and in general yeah i'd love to see a guest dm have more time and space to flex. (except mercer please no more mercer in the dome)
6- i feel you. it took me a long time to get through tuc 2, this is a cody walsh hate account (half joking). and it took 3 attempts to get through pirates as well. honestly what got me through it was myrtle, cheese, and the little bit of garthy that we got. i found the other characters kinda annoying, big same on that accent, bob's was grating, too.

as always you are so right on your opinions lmao.. cr will always have a special place in my hearth but since watching other (better) live plays and playing myself I cant sit through a single ep.. matt is great but he is almost too descriptive we dont need all of that matt please edit it down a little king, and the cast man i loved them but they are not decisive people like i feel like poking them with a stick (except travis thats my #1 rp on that table).. the most recent cr thing I watched was calamity and thats kinda cause brennan is great and the cast was stellar abria, lou travis! sam when he is actually playing of others <3 but idk it feels sad like I have outgrown them.. :/
anyway love your mind as always and what is your fave d20 season if you dont mind sharing? I have only watched A Court of Fey & Flowers and I loved it.. but I have no idea what to watch next hehe
calamity was SOOOOOO GOOD you're so right. brennan really rocked up at critrole HQ, showed everyone how it's done, killed 5/6 PCs and ruined the rest of CR forever because nothing will ever be that good ever again. the sexiest table we've ever seen. "this is going to be a to whom it may concern - i cast fireball" BITCH!!!!!!
i think campaign 3 would have really benefited from a more elaborate or expansive session zero because the vision matt has for the campaign does NOT align with the characters at all. it doesn't seem like they're on the same page at all. the mighty nein worked because they were all random people, they all had something unresolved or mysterious in their past, they all had secrets, and matt gave them a huge playground for them to develop those characters with plenty of scattered points of interest for them to choose. and even though it was just as chaotic as C3, it worked because they weren't on the clock.
i don't want to use the R word but bells hells are being railroaded into this predathos plot and NONE of them had ANY relationship with the gods, so it feels really unnatural for any of them to really pursue this beyond feeling like they should. orym and imogen have stronger motivations but orym is extremely passive and imogen just sits and whimpers about it making absolutely no decisions. it's very frustrating as a viewer and if i were DMing this i would be so frustrated with such indecisive players. but i think it's also on matt for inundating them with lore and plot so early on. all in all it's just not executed very well and it's disappointing.
oooh my fav d20 season i think is a court of fey and flowers or a crown of candy (not super keen on the ending, but i would have to rewatch and have a good think about what i would have done instead..). acofaf was just incredible, hats off to aabria for making me so invested in a fae bridgerton. WAIT ALSO MENTOPOLIS. i have never laughed so hard in my life. mike trapp and hank green were a DELIGHT. just absolutely incredible character choices all around. really enjoying fantasy high junior year so far, which is nice because sophomore year was a bit of a slog i'm ngl, probably because it was live and therefore unedited but i struggled sometimes to keep focused. junior year is fucking crisp though, everyone is on top form ❤️

if i finished a court of fey and flowers and enjoyed it more than i was enjoying fantasy high, is it smarter to continue crown of candy or start neverafter?
i watched 1 ep of crown of candy and love it so far cuz of all the royal/political stuff, just as i enjoyed the regency/social aspect of acofaf. but neverafter seems right up my alley cuz of the more horrorful elements.

hi hello hi so this is, as stated, another one of those mfin dropout/d20/naddpod blogs that's trawling around on this site
pretty damn new to the content :p i literally only got my dropout subscription like a monthish ago and started listening to naddpod like less than 2 weeks ago lol
not really any previous experience with consuming or participating in any d&d/ttrpg content, except for finding it intriguing from afar and watchin like a couple of random oneshots, but it definitely kinda has minorly consumed my life atm lol (and by that i mean. i am listening to naddpod 24/7. i cant stop. i wld say to send help but i don’t think i want it.)
current pc faves have been acofaf andhera (adore that fucking loser <33), resident frogman prince gerard, n beverly toegold the fifth ;p
stuff ive watched, am watching, & lookin forward to watching under the cut lol :p
have watched:
- game changer
- dirty laundry
- make some noise
- d20 court of fey and flowers
——
in progress:
- d20 neverafter [as it updates ^-^]
- d20 coffin run [ive been almost done with it for weeks now i swear i'll finish it at some point]
- naddpod campaign 1 bahumia [about halfway thru as of this post !!!]
——
esp excited to watch in the future:
- d20 mice and murder. hi it's a detective mystery with those little guys??? starring some epic ch peeps? and again a murder mystery featuring little fucking guys???? am absolutely watching this d20 campaign next r u kidding
- d20 unsleeping city! honestly none of the currently-completed intrepid heroes campaigns had necessarily rlly caught my eye even tho i find neverafter super fun and the cast fuckin awesome, but i think this is the one that i've been eyein the most so 👀 after mice n murder, i think this one's next
- the other naddpod campaigns. esp the main ones but the smaller ones i'm super eyes at as well. as of rn i am pretty much obsessed with it and am trying Desperately to finish campaign 1 so i can at least consume some good fucking fancontent w/out worrying about spoilers. anyways yeah naddpod Currently been the thing ive especially been losing my mind over *gnashes my teeth and does grabby hands* it's simply sooooooo. idk even but it is so. girl i literally started it like 2 weeks ago and i've barely been listening to music (something i tend to do very very often) be i'm just listening to it all the fckin time. like as i am typing this im losing my mind a bit over ep. 51 the nannerfly effect which i am halfway thru and having some goddamn Feelings about. ok im gonna stop talking now but yes i Do indeed think naddpod is pretty neat (as probably evidenced by this wholeass chunk of text *flashes u an awkward smile* whoopsie)

Just finished a three-day binge of ACOFAF. It’s my first time completing a Dimension 20 season, despite my love for so much of the D20 people and keeping tabs on every single campaign as it gets announced. First of all, I only recently caved and shilled out for Dropout, but think I was also mistakenly stuck on the idea that I have to start with the first Fantasy High. But I was watching Aabria’s most recent Adventuring Academy for the first time in full and felt panic as they start slipping into ACOFAF spoilers and worried about those more than any other spoilers in that episode. So then I realized I needed to just watch the damn thing.
I’ve realized that now that I’ve finally gotten it in my head that D20 is an anthology show, I should just watch them as their vibes intrigue me, a more go-with-the-flow approach than treating it like nerd homework. So I’m determined to bop around with very little consideration for the season order, and only pay attention to continuity of the story world. I started with the fifteenth season of the show, but it’s the one that most directly aligns with my interests. I love fairy-based fantasy and my capstone for my English undergrad was literally a Jane Austen course. As I start to gel with formula, I’ll probably bop around to all of the seasons eventually, but I’m going to enjoy the journey and start with ones I’ve always been super curious about, and transition into ones that mostly just have people I know I want to see.
Current plan (if you’re still reading and at all curious)
1. A Crown of Candy (just started Ep 1 this morning)
2. The Ravening War
3. Burrow’s End
4. Mentopolis OR Misfits and Magic (depending on how much I feel I’ll miss Aabria after Burrow’s End)
I've just started watching a court of fey and flowers and I can't believe I've waited this long to watch it, it's so good, I'm enjoying it so much

What Rue's diary looks like when they get back to their room
Captain Knicholas P. Hob x Delloso de la Rue
Knicholas P de la Rue
Delloso Hob
Captain K P Rue-Hob
Knicholas Knicholas Knicholas Knicholas
It's definitely surrounded by hearts. Rue is definitely lying on top of their bed, kicking their feet back and forth. Wuvvy is definitely in the room trying to formulate how she is going to get these two heart-eyed disasters to finally confess to one another.

i do not know where i saw the take that acofaf character choices were 2/3 poignant parallels for queer experience and 1/3 hot mess bird drama as a treat -- but i didn’t need confirmation from chirp that she was in love with a woman (not forgetting squak and theodore in EP TWO) to know that the lords of the wing have had equally queer stories from the start. they are trying to please a disapproving patriarch. they are searching for marital matches that will not benefit them individually. they are notorious for being messy, promiscuous and shit-stirring. they are to jumping through hoops to stay true to themselves behind closed doors. they are hiding big secrets. up to now they were even keeping things from each other. and they are balancing all that with tireless maneuvering that results in a mature, hospitable reputation. idk that sounds outrageously -- and loudly -- queer to me.
anyway there are layers and layers upon closets in the vastness of the queer experience. not all those stories are about coming out.
sometimes they’re about arriving fashionably late on an ostrich-chariot pulled by doves.

my two desires for ep5 of acofaf is 1) more moments with the cousins, i did not get enough from chirp this ep and i NEED to see how she feels about the human and i NEED to know what the fuck is with squack and his betrothed 2) a master of ceremonies moment where they manage to get separated from all others while in the maze and they have... like any conversation i just want the image of them alone amongst the hedges to be real
3) actually, scratch it, 3 desires now, because i think everyone, not just ruehob, should take advantage of getting lost in a maze to have secret conversations as they are split up from one another, walls surrounding them, alone though not knowing who is around each corner. it’s such a good setting UGH

omg august the fucking DEVELOPMENTS in ep 9 of acofaf.. someone made a good post about how rue seems to be like, in love with one very narrow idea of love and sees hob as a mirror instead of actually seeing him. and like, that rue's story is one of queerness and involves dropping their mask, and they think it's the same for hob but it isn't - hob's story is about being autistic and not being ABLE to mask, he can't drop the act because there isn't one, that's just his face. sitting here tearing my hair out bc as it stands this relationship can never work! it's unfair to both of them but especially to hob!! and - trying to be vague to avoid spoilers - but rue has Done Things and i am. oh boy. the woobification is unreal, honestly.
WOAHHHHHH okay that is an interesting take about ruehob... can someone link me the post that anon is talking about? I'm very morbidly curious to see how the finale of acofaf is going to go because it's only going to be 1 hr and 15 minutes long and I'm afraid that when they try to wrap everything up it's gonna go down like the acoc epilogue (bad) 😭😭😭
