(Hey guys. Uni is kicking my ass a little, but summer is almost here!! Anyway, some new content: I was able to use ACNH to create a "dream floorplan" of our future classrooms for a portfolio piece, and my professor was delighted. :)

I’m dealing with stress about the world by going back to brainstorming the rainy small town island I’m building in ACNH.

Some features:

- lots of small ponds and creeks. A few larger water features, but the whole island looks somewhat flooded.

- lots of puddle design codes on the ground, umbrellas and rain boots outside buildings like someone put down their umbrella and took off their wet boots to come inside.

- lots of mushrooms and moss. Damp stuff.

- a large interactive school build (the kind of fake building you can walk inside,) plus a very muddy playground. Also a creek near the school with what looks like a little outdoor classroom on the bank. My elementary school had a creek nearby, and for science class we would walk over to the creek to look at frogs and crawdads and things. I want to recreate that.

- near the school is going to be a kind of education district. The museum will go over here, and a library. Maybe a couple other things like a history museum or a planetarium? Maybe a theater? Trying to include things you would want to do on a rainy day.

- on the opposite side of the island from the education district is the shopping district with Nooks and Ables, plus other shops and some restaurants. I’m definitely making a yarn/textile/knitting shop. Maybe an umbrella shop? I need a cozy little cafe because nothing says rainy day like coffee and tea. Maybe a brunch place too? Or a little diner? I think I want more shops but I’m not sure what kind.

- oh, maybe a pharmacy or small town doctors office, in case you catch a cold from getting soaked in all that rain?

- or a laundromat to wash all your wet and muddy clothes?

- maybe a video game store, but with a vintage section for old games and systems. And a convenience store. Go buy some games and snacks and then go home and get cozy indoors.

- some of the villager houses will be used for shops, but the rest will be a little neighborhood with a community garden in the center.

assorted scarlet and violet thoughts after playing a bit more:

- ngl i miss having to actually try to stealthily avoid a trainer if i didn't wanna battle. and i hate how pokeballs have this big glowing light showing where they are. i just feel like when you get TOO many quality of life changes all together you start losing the charm of things a little i guess? the same thing happened with acnh for me and i think has been slowly happening with pokemon. i also really dislike not being able to go into random houses and buildings anymore--the buildings i can go into are all really nicely designed, though. i really liked exploring all the different rooms in the school.

- the classes at the school are actually kinda neat as a way to learn about the mechanics of the game.

- when i went and told the director what cheugy means it said i became closer with him?? is there a friendship mechanic? does it matter that i'm pretty sure i gave him the wrong answer? can i get closer with the biology teacher too? or the super cute nurse??

- i said that prior to talking to the nurse, turns out i CAN get closer with her. i hope i can hang out with all the teachers.

- i wish my character wasn't so baby though. nemona looks like a teenager and i look like i'm 8 years old and i hate it. first we're 14 in BW, then like 17 in XY, then i thought we were teenagers in SUMO until it suddenly says you're 11, then we look like teens again in SWSH and now we look younger than ever. the stupid school uniform being the only clothing option doesn't help.

- you should be able to customize the dorm room like a secret base. i'm assuming you can't and i'd love to be wrong, but at this point i'm too used to being disappointed by gamefreak.

- there are adult students at the academy. i saw an old lady in the humanities classroom who told me it's never too late to learn something new. i like this a lot.

- i do really enjoy seeing flying hoppip, sleeping mareep, pachirisu climbing trees... the pokemon feel livelier than they did in PLA, i think.

- i don't like that i didn't have to fight any regular trainers before fighting katy :( the olive rolling thing was okay but i hope that was just kinda meh because it was the weakest gym.

- i like katy's design a lot though!! and i really like cortondo, it's a nice, cozy, well designed town.

- I created a horrific burger and now realize it might’ve worked better if I went with two of the Mystery Gift burgers instead of just one...

- Can’t believe I got family of four form immediately, omg...

- I did some backtracking with my big jump abilites and... There was this item floating in the air?? My Varoom took a bit to realize what I was sending them out to do, lol

- Later I tried to do more creative mode sandwiches after buying a bunch of ingredients and hamburger v2 went bad because I had selected lettuce twice...  The ramen burger was so close though! (the angry eevee pick went to waste, ack!)

- I gave up leaving the gyms for last and decided to head to the first gym city so I could get some dang obedience from my Pokemon, but since all my Pokemon are lv30s from the pre-Poison Team grinding I’m hatching more new babies to take on the gym and not be OP.  I somehow forgot my Flying Pikachu Event in the grind though??  Anyway, love that I get a preview of Surfing in Cortondo, haha!

- While I was there I decided to finally change my incomprehensible player icon and made it an image of the vending machine’s selection instead!  You sure can see how simple the texture on the machine’s controls is, lol.  (I wish we could move around when taking pictures like in animal crossing, but even in ACNH you can’t move when taking ID photos...)

- On the 14th, after beating up Brassius and unlocking the Art Teacher I headed back to the school and realized way more areas had opened up since the beginning, ack!  I had fun sliding down the slide in the court, but Miriam is v cute, omg...

My old art teacher is such an inspiration to me like. She encouraged me to keep drawing shitty anime but guided me towards resources to help. She pushed me out of my comfort zone and respected when i wanted to stay in the comfort zone. I ate lunch in her classroom and borrowed her amiibos for breath of the wild. She was the first person on mu acnh island in march 2020. Shes so fucking creepy weird (positive) and so apologetically herself even though shes almost like. 34. Like. She is so cool.
