im too tired and not in much mood lately for my long analysis posts but the moment in the cherry magic (thailand) finale where achi turns the closed sign to open really made my heart feel so warm and fuzzy. the symbolism of achi finally opening his closed off heart, fully accepting that his perceptions of the world around him were flawed, and adopting an open minded outlook for the future was just so fucking chef's kiss, beautiful, no notes.

cherry magic was truly a masterpiece and a gift from beginning to end. it was like a warm hug and i'm so thrilled it stuck the landing so spectacularly.

I love the way this show is showing us reasons why these two men are compatible. Why they like each other. So often in romance media the couple just like each other with no discussion of their compatibility. But these two are. The show gives us scenes showing them connecting through their similar likes. It's lovely.

Sweet Like Ice Cream

Sometimes, Karan misses when Achi could read his mind, his feelings feel too big to put into words if he has to say them out loud.

Like right now, watching Achi chase a melty trail of ice cream as it trickles down his fingers, and Karan is overwhelmed with the dueling feelings of bone deep love at how absolutely adorable his husband is, and an almost painful urge to take Achi’s hand and lick the sweet stickiness from his skin, to follow the path of would take down further and suck at the warm pulse in Achi’s wrist, to watch Achi watching him chase the taste of his skin under the mango and coconut.

Achi looks at him then, his hand still hovering in front of his face and an embarrassed smile teasing at his lips, and Karan thinks he could propose again right now.

Sometimes, Achi misses being able to read Karan’s mind, misses the reassurance of the constant stream of adoration he could hear when they touched. Not that Karan isn't more than generous with his words, but still, he misses it on occasion.

Just now though, he doesn't need to be able to read his mind to know what he's thinking, the way Karan is looking at him makes him shiver in a way that has nothing to do with the ice cream slipping between his fingers.

He vaguely notices Karan's own ice cream dish sitting half melted and clearly forgotten, and can't help but smirk, licking the back of his hand deliberately while watching Karan's eyes follow the movement.

“I think I'm done with this,” he says slowly, suppressing a laugh when Karan's eyes snap to his as though he's been caught at something naughty.

“O-oh? Are you sure?” Karan stutters out.

Achi reaches out with his clean hand and cups Karan's face, leaning in and bringing they're faces close enough that his breath fans against Karan's lips. “Let's go home, sweetheart.”

When Karan nods dazedly for a moment before scrambling to clean up, Achi doesn't bother hiding his laugh.

i don't want to admit it but taynew are kind of growing on me in cherry magic..

i'm only 5 minutes in episode 9, so there's still plenty that can go wrong, but they're growing on me..

It's the way Karan tries to anticipate and downplay homophobia, how quick he is to point out that, yes, they're two guys and that it's okay to be unsure and that it's okay to awkward and how everyone around him is quick to let him know that he's normal and that it's okay, that it's fine, that loving another man is not a fault he must constantly fight against but rather just another aspect of himself to accept.

Karan works so hard to anticipate anything he views as a fault and to mitigate but queerness is not a fault and he does not need to defend it nor to explain it. Only to live it. @absolutebl I do love this version and interpretation of the characters.

Cherry Magic really is about finding love in the smallest places and the littlest kindness and the way that love flows from little things, little motions, all the ways you love someone through the day and through time, the little things you notice and the ways you take care of the people you love, the ways you grow from love and the ways love teaches you how to be a better person, the way love picks you up when you're down and lifts you even higher. It's love in holding a door, love in boiling water, love in closing a blind, love in seeing another's work, love in seeing their effort, love in sitting with someone, love in warmth and kindness and dedication.

Just the growth in this line alone, in Achi's ability to be comforted and to believe in Karan, the way he can trust him and love him and believe him, the way he can accept his reassurance and even explain it. It's beautiful to see.

And this!? To push for an answer out of Karan? To reassure him in return? To speak all of that without reading his mind, without counting on his powers? It's amazing.

The sheer beauty of Achi's growth and change in their relationship is a gift. It's about coming to love himself, coming to love others and learning to be the best version of himself for the sake of loving Karan, because he has the comfort of loving Karan and knowing he is loved by him as well.

The way Karan is literally placing himself back in the worst moment of his life trying to prove to himself and to their boss and to the world that he is somehow worthy of this love he's found with Achi, that he is so willing to sacrifice himself for Achi that he will put himself in this awful place and back in that awful moment... it's heartbreaking. For all that Achi struggles to love himself and find the worth there, Karan struggles just as much with his own need to be the one to fix situations and to take care of Achi. He puts himself in awful places and awful moments just to show and prove that he can take care of Achi and to think how often he apologizes for his queerness and how often he's quick to explain that part of himself and it's just so, so painful to see him so willing to hurt himself for love, to hurt himself for the way he thinks he has to love Achi.

Karan always wants to be perfect, to be the one to sacrifice, to be the one to take care because his strongest love from Achi was that moment Achi took care of him and so he wants to return that but now he never gives Achi the same chance in return because he is so determined to be perfect and to constantly, always, prove himself.
