What I love abt ace attorney pun names is that at no point does the text itself comment on the name. Maybe one passing remark, but otherwise their names are played completely straight and used like normal names. Romein Letouse. Odie Asman. Raiten Menimemo. It's truly the bit that keeps on giving.

✨Rating the new localized names ✨

Justine Courtney -> Verity Gavèlle: very pretty name actually. If we weren’t going to get to keep the very good “Justine Courtney” then this is a close second. I might end up liking it more one of these days if it keeps growing on me. Depends on if you like the pun on “Truth Gavel” or “Justice Court” better 9/10 new name

Raymond Shields -> Eddie Fender: E DDIEFENDER -> “A DEFENDER”?? HIS NAME IS A DEFENDER? This is PEAK ace attorney name. I love Raymond Shields and this is good too. A little on the nose though… on the other other hand Ray Shields sounds like a superhero name so 7/10 new name

Sebastian Debeste -> Eustace Winner - I conceded that DeBest was not the most subtle of last names either but there’s a reason the entire tag is making fun of this name. I can get behind Eustace because it’s a very “rich kid” name and it sounds like he’s also being called useless, but his ass is not named Winner 2/10

my take on the localised names thing is that eustace winner is actually a better name, it clearly shows his obsession with being the best while also showing hes a loser, and the name that should be getting hate but doesnt because its established since the first game is miles edgeworth. its completely random and the only part they managed to keep was 'edge' as in swords have edges which is a bit pathetic when you think about it

fr tho i do not envy the aai localization team at all . like seeing some of the unironic vitriol for the new names is so 😭 like no one is making you call them eustace or eddie if you don't like it!! but there is a myriad of reasons why the new names were chosen (some of which we can't fully judge until the games are out), and it's fine if you prefer the fan translation/names, but the way some people have been talking about it reminds me of the recent discourse around translation/localization, and i can't help but feel that this is feeding into it somewhat.....
