Anon confession: the other week i dreamed ace attorney 7 came out and the protagonist was a third brother named Country Gavin. He also had been heavily implied to be the reason that none of the other main characters (Phoenix, Apollo, etc) showed up once

sometime after we finished playing aa4 together, my roommate had a dream about an alternate ending to the game involving phoenix stealing the actual david krisler letter from kristoph's cell, and kristoph subsequently hiring an assassin to take out apollo before it could be shown in court

 I had a dream about an Ace Attorney musical about the first game ( I don’t remember if Rise From The Ashes was included) with the most distinct feature being each murderer got their own song . Sawhit and White had theirs at the beginning of the  “chapters” while Von Karma and Vasquez did theirs after their crimes were revealed. The only one I remember clearly is Von Karma doing a cool quiet rap outside the   “ elevator”, in which he debates predeterminism and the concept of karma and the weight the justice system bears onto him. Other primary moments are when he stroked young Miles’s unconscious face, Gregory’s eyes briefly fluttering open when he got shot, and a short scene of young Franziska meeting and befriending Miles while Von Karma watches wistfully from a distance. Also for some reason he was wearing flowery frocks? I wish I remembered more, it was a really pleasant dream.

Up and coming Lawyer Riddle and medium Floyd

Just Riddle pursuing his dream of being a lawyer, going as an apprentice under some old man and all that.

Cue 1 case and he meets this tall guy who teases him and claims he's a medium. His twin was also a medium, but Jade was more of a stay-at-home type of guy since their home was in the mountains. :'3

AAIC Nintendo Dream Magazine Cover

This is the 60th post in the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection Countdown: 21 days left until release!

Today's topic: the Investigations Collection themed Nintendo Dream magazine cover!

The Japanese Nintendo magazine Nintendo Dream (unsurprisingly) covers the Investigations Collection in their September and October issues - including an entire exclusive cover drawn for the latter. As you can see above (and below) it looks incredible! The cover version sadly hides Gumshoe behind a bunch of writing (poor guy) but luckily the magazine comes with a poster version of the artwork as well so that you can enjoy it in all its glory.

Look at it! Isn't it gorgeous?! I love it! I honestly want this magazine just for this poster alone. Let's talk about how amazing it is in detail.

First of all, they picked the characters included in the art well. With AA's large casts promotional artworks like this can often feel too crowded and overstuffed and the two Investigations games have a sizeable main cast all on their own so it can be difficult to decide who to include and who not to. In this art they really brought it down to the few most central characters: the protagonist Miles, his two sidekicks Gumshoe and Kay and the two main rivals of the two games Shi-Long and Justine (Verity). Perfect choice! I might miss some other characters I love (like Sebastian (Eustace) or Franziska) but I honestly think it's better for it, this way the characters can really shine.

The view is from slightly above so that the characters look a little upwards towards the "camera" which not only looks nice but works well to put a little more focus on what they're standing on: a chessboard, or a chessboard-like patterned floor at least. Of course, we're not gonna stop with the chess theming now 😄 I do think it's a great choice though, especially because it's not black and white like your usual chessboard but (burgundy) red and white, following Miles' colour scheme. Very nice thematic background!

On to the characters, we start, of course, with Miles Edgeworth himself front and centre. He has a very confident smile on his face, you could almost say he looks a little cheeky, and he wears it well! Logic genius extraordinaire, no crime goes unsolved, no criminal uncaught when Miles is on the case - and he knows it, too! His pose also expresses that confidence, with his crossed arms, angled slightly to the side and that one pointer finger raised like he doesn't even have to try to destroy your argument. It's somewhat reminiscient of his thinking animation, only combined with his confident smirk in a way that is very Miles-specific. Very badass, I love it!

Behind Miles, essentially framing him on either side, are our two main rivals, Justine on the right and Shi-Long on the left, both angled towards the centre. Justine looks comparatively serious and neutral. One of her arms is outstretched towards the viewer, hand open, while the other is placed on her chest. It gives her a very gracious vibe, as if she was offering you mercy hoping you would realize your errors and return to the righteous path. Perfectly fitting to her attitude in the game, extremely sure of her own correctness, serious but not brutal as long as you agree with her "correct" view. And elegant above all else!

Shi-Long is the complete contrast to that, rough instead of elegant but just as confident. His arm is also outstretched towards the front but instead of an open palm he has a closed fist with the pointer finger raised in a very commanding and attention demanding way. He stands with his legs apart, as he usually does, and just emanates charisma, also as he usually does. His expression is a wild wolfish grin, showing slightly sharper teeth, that makes him look at least as sure of himself as Miles is and very ready and eager to rise to any challenge that might be thrown at him including any pesky prosecutors that might get in his way. He does what he does how he sees fit and won't let anyone tell him different and makes sure to show you exactly that. You can also really admire his fluffy hair tips from this angle!

Directly behind the two main rivals is Kay with a wide happy grin on her face that perfectly fits her energized personality. She comes across like she's actively posing for something, trying to look cool or badass and having too much fun to really stay serious. Her arms form a cross in front of her chest, one hand showing the peace sign, the other with a raised pointer finger similar to Miles. That's definitely the kind of cool pose Kay would think of making for a group shot! Have I mentioned I love her yet?

Last but not least, we have Gumshoe standing slightly behind Kay but facing the wrong way and just now seeming to notice it. His neck is stretched out so that he looks awkwardly behind himself with a facial expression that says "Oops!", seeing the others and realizing that he screwed up. His arms are raised in front of him in a similar pose to Kay, one hand showing the peace sign and the other showing something inbetween that and a raised pointer finger as if he was trying to do the same pose but not really sure what it was again. Poor Gumshoe, he screwed up the badass group shot. Completely in-character for him though, hilarious and so cute 😊 I especially love that Kay made him do her cool pose with her and how the artwork shows off their adorable dynamic this way, it's so well done!

This is not the only amazing art you can get as a poster though, the September issue comes with a poster version of the Investigations Collection key art! I already analysed that one in an early countdown post so I won't do it here but it's another brilliant piece and I'd love to have that poster as well. All the new artwork for this collection is so beautiful!

Two quick propaganda rules:

Once the six semi-finalists are chosen, there will be two battles of 3, and then the winners of that will go against each other in the finals! Each poll will last for one day, but the finals and semifinals will be a week each. coming from ace attorney and seeing people hate and condemn casey selmore for being an obsessive stalker is wild to me because here we have phoenix wright who in his early 20s decided to abruptly drop out of his dream career and spend years in a law school to became a defense attorney just so he could figure out what the fuck was going on with his childhood friend back in their elementary school and confront him in court after hearing that the once sweet, innocent boy whose biggest dream was standing up for the people wronged by injustice was somehow ending up becoming injustice himself. and guess what. he is one of the fan favorites. their ship is treated as fanon.

also just as casey was obsessed with her goal of confronting moriarty, ludger himself is also obsessed with his goals of punishing every single one who has ever wronged him and those who are under his protection but we dont see anyone condemn him for that because he is the goddamn main character and the protagonist i guess.

Notes:

Hi, the DP Side Hoes week prompts finally inspired me to write some scenes for this silly little Kyle is right AU that me and my bestie (@gurggggleburgle) have been talking about for a while. This AU was heavily inspired by the wild plot twist in Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney where all the magical stuff in that game turns out to be because the town was a government experiment. I thought it would be funny if that was the case for the ghostly stuff in Amity Park too, which would mean that Kyle is right and ghosts don't exist.

When Kyle Weston heard voices as they approached their favorite hang out spot behind the school, they weren’t sure what they expected. A couple making out? Upperclassmen smoking weed? 

They probably shouldn’t have been surprised to see one of the “ghost” actors. It was Amity Park, after all. 

This one was in a costume they hadn’t seen before- a large wolf with black fur and a green hoodie. And the wolf was talking to someone they recognized from the grade below them, the technogeek Tucker Foley. 

As they got closer, Kyle recognized that they were speaking in Esperanto, of all things. Well, Wulf was speaking in Esperanto. Tucker’s stilted attempt at conversation wasn’t that good. It seemed like he was trying to explain the different features of his PDA to the wolf man, but the “ghost” wasn’t understanding him. 

Kyle had a pretty good grasp on the language because several years ago they had decided it would be funny to learn it to annoy Wes. And it had worked. It drove their brother up the wall when he found out that Kyle had learned a dead language instead of something actually useful out of spite. Well guess what Wes, it was going to be useful right now. 

“Wow, the government researchers are paying people to be furries now?” Kyle asked in Esperanto.

The wolf’s jaw dropped. Tucker rolled his eyes at Kyle. It seems like he pretty much understood what they had said.

“Wulf, that’s Kyle. They don’t believe in ghosts.”

“Really?” Wulf stared in surprise at the teen. 

Kyle nodded and turned to Tucker.

“You’re a furry right? Getting paid to do that must be like your dream job.”

“Huh? No, wait- what?” Tucker sputtered. 

“It was nice to meet you, but I have to go,” Wulf said. He used his claws to tear a hole in the air that led into the swirling green depths of the Ghost Zone, then jumped in. 

Kyle stared at the spot where the “ghost” had disappeared and leaned closer to Tucker conspiratorially. 

“Did you know there’s something in the water that makes us black out when we hear the sound of silver? I think that’s how they make the actors get away so quickly like that,” Kyle whispered.

Tucker just stared at them in disbelief.

“Though I don’t know how no one notices the time lost whenever they do that.” Kyle put a hand on their chin. “Maybe they’re also drugging us somehow?”

Tucker quietly walked away while Kyle continued their contemplation alone.

I've talked a bit about Cassan's origins as a character but now I'm going to ramble about Oliver's origins.

And it's all thanks to my previous job telling me to pound sand on April Fool's day lol So after my last day, I go to sleep and try to not worry about the future and am thus stressed the fuck out. I had a dream that took place in the Ace Attorney setting of all places. But it was a wild ass dream and I was like "I must write this but who do i make suffer" and so poor Cassandra was put in. Because she's my "I don't know what's going on but let's practice" character.

It ended up being like a 35K fever dream of a fanfic.

But I realize that a lot of Oliver was based off of her cousin I made for the piece, Martin. He had a different sister, Marta (Ace Attorney - where the names are puns or a pain in the ass if they can't be puns).

Martin was also a psychic. And a functional alcoholic--the drinking was how he avoided reading minds. Despite Marta being his sister, he was more attached to Cassandra. And Cassandra did have siblings--Olive, Oliver, and some third sibling who never showed up woops.

Anyway, Oliver survived in name only and a lot of Martin's traits got transferred over. Although this Oliver now is not a psychic and not a alcoholic, he's just as "what the fuck is going on with Cassandra" as Martin was.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 2,319,545. I am. Verbose.

3. What fandoms do you write for? Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Legend of Zelda, Ace Attorney, Mystic Messenger, and then I wrote the novelization of the song 6969 by Ninja Sex Party and a Caduceus character study for CR.

5. Do you respond to comments? Absolutely always, whenever possible. lol I will also ramble at anyone that asks me questions.

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Probably The Traveler, which I warn you from the very start has a sad ending. It's Dragon Age fic retelling the stories Solas tells of his time dreaming in the Fade, with the trappings of a Doctor Who theme in which he travels through the fade with a series of companions.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Uhhhhhhh I think probably We Are Ferelden comes closes to a happy ending? Eventually I will give my DA series an actual happy ending though. Most of them end either bittersweet in some way or as a sort of non-ending ending because I know the story continues.

8. Do you get hate on fics? I've gotten a wee bit of hate on the Zelda fic, Hundred Years in the Making, but it was fairly mild. I don't really respond to it much though because it's hard for a stranger to say something that will actually hurt my fee fees XD

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Oh yeah, sure. Most my fics contain smut of some kind. I don't really write smut without plot, though, it's gotta be a natural part of the narrative or I just lose interest.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? I have not. I just haven't thought of one that caught my attention enough to want to write it down.

19. First fandom you wrote for? I'm gonna assume the AU crossover I wrote for Pokemon/Dragonriders of Pern/Zelda/Narnia when I was 9 does not count. lol it was Dragon Age tho

20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written? My Mass Effect series, I think. I love different things about all my fics, usually because I was doing different things in all of them, but A Name for the Stars trilogy is something that I'm most proud of. Almost every scene in that serves a plot purpose and I wove a LOT of different things together to create one cohesive thing, and I think if you can get through all of it, it has the biggest bang for the buck. Also I burned that realllll slow XD
