there are three constants: the sun, the moon, and alhaitham’s ability to grind kaveh's gears. an unfortunate reality in its own right, though the architect ought to be grateful for any semblance of stability and reliability in his life, considering how often things (and people) seem to slip through his fingers.
the past is complicated, and relationships even more so. a stranger turns into a best friend, and a best friend to…well. whatever this is now. in an odd way, it reminds kaveh of the thesis he once ripped up and pieced back together all those years ago — still comprehensible, though far removed from its original state.
but even in the face of never-ending arguments and bickering, there is an indisputable truth to contend with: alhaitham has done for him what others have not. and though kaveh is loathe to admit it, he finds that the most unshakeable part of his life is a friend that will never change — for better or for worst.
he waits for alhaitham to step out before sneaking into the other's bedroom. it’s there that kaveh places a bottle of wine on the nightstand, along with a book titled, “In Other Words — A Unique Collection of “Untranslatable,” Culturally-Bound Words Across Teyvat.”
A note is stuck to its cover:
“I skimmed through this and thought you'd find it interesting. ”
With a P.S at the bottom:
“In the spirit of the New Year, drink to whatever it is that makes you happy in your own time. Just make sure you wash your glass after. I've already done the dishes.”
Signed with a flourish, - Kaveh
Oh.
I shouldn't be so surprised, considering how sentimental the man is, but finding that Kaveh has obtained gifts for me still takes me off-balance a bit. Perhaps I have only my history with him to blame for my lack of expectation, in which case he has succeeded at springing this gift on me. And how thoughtful it is, as befitting the man: a copy of In Other Words, which despite the resources at my disposable I had had yet to get my hands on the most recent version; and a rather delectable-looking vintage that based on its appearance will do well for welcoming the beginning of the new year. Despite the words on the note, he must've spent some time finding and procuring these items, and for a moment I wonder how much he spent on them. If he hadn't saved up beforehand... well, it makes me curious, and hopeful that he was able to get a good commission preceding their acquisition. And that, of course, he didn't spend all of said commission on these gifts.
I like to think that after so long I have become well-versed in the particular language that is Kaveh, and for all that we (more often than not) rile each other up after our fall-out, we still have at least a shadow of the friendship we once shared. This present wishing me a cordial New Year's is evidence of that on his end. After everything, he still cares in some way, shape, or form. It's... kind of nice, these little moments in which I realize all over again that our brotherhood, though tattered and torn to shreds, was not irreparably burned to ashes.
And now I don't feel as nervous or silly about the new foreign toolset I snuck in his nightstand. If he hadn't gifted me anything, he would've most likely felt embarrassment at having nothing with which to reciprocate as well as believed he'd incurred a debt and attempted to pay it back and, well, that's one headache I definitely don't need. Apparently our timing lined up well in the end, and how funny is that? (I don't think I'll be able to keep a straight face however if that Fontainian curve ruler makes its way into his hair with the rest of his architectural accountrements. No doubt it works well for him, and it still gets me every time that it does so well. It's very Kaveh, now that I think about it.)
I chuckle as I take both presents and hunt down a clean goblet before pouring myself a glass and sitting down to crack open the book. Now I want to see his reaction to the toolset if only for the look on his face.
"Mm, happy New Year indeed."
#🌿 altruistic architect (kaveh).#aesthetecomplex#//SORRY THIS IS SO LATE TAT was not expecting a kaveh in my inbox :plead:#//idr if it's canon or hc that kaveh's hairpieces and earrings double as tools but if you agree. new hairpieces for kaveh lol XD

Play Report: Lorn Song of the Bachelor x Mangayaw (Session 3)
The Binmanwa Party
Malakas, a shamanistic healer
Bantok, a bow hunter
Eumining-gud, an aswang (?)
Dumalapdap, a ratfolk musketeer
Alon, a textile weaver
Kilala, a ratfolk cook
Tusok, a witch's apprentice
Enter Tusok, New Party Member
Another boat entered the ruin behind the party. It had just one passenger. He waved at the party with his tattooed arms.
He called himself Tusok, the apprentice of a witch connected to the Company. He had a debt to her, so he's pretty much in the same situation as the rest of the party. He claims his companions have gone ahead of him in the ruin.
The party gave their wary introductions. Some don't know whether to trust him yet. "Prove your worth," they said.
Eumining-gud recognized the tattoos, shaped like elephant tusks. They are Mentala that will change his entire form. But to what, she doesn't know yet.
The Lungs
Exploring the ruin, they came upon a fork in the road with three paths. They took the first one which led them to a dome chamber.
It looks like a ballroom, at least it must have been before. But now its carpet is that of roaches and guano, its ceiling fixtures are that of kingfishers hanging like bats, and its dancing music is that of deafening chirps and chatter.
One kingfisher stood out. It looks like a hologram projected into incense smoke. "Stupid human! Come here! Trapped here? Name's Sikkukurut!"
The party is wary of the smog bird, but they conversed with it.
"Sikkukurut knows stuff! Help Sikkukurut?"
The bird wants treats; vampire snails are her favorite. The bird wants help with pranks. She tells them to completely detooth a cave crocodile. "Funny shit!"
The party had no idea what a vampire snail or a cave crocodile is like, but said they'll come back when they have done either. They wonder if the real prank was on them.
The Cloth-Packed Belly
The party doubled back and took the second tunnel. The path is interrupted by an abyss. There is a path across made of teak logs, staked onto the face of the wall. The party hopped onto each teak log to pass through.
They come upon an ink-black archway sporting cavorting monkeys. Beyond it is a shopping-arcade-like space. Each open lot is overflowing with a different kind of human accountrement. A hulking mass of pebbles and stones is sorting through a pile.
The party is intrigued by the pebble golem. They tossed a random stone in its direction, to get its attention. The stone snaps like a magnet and joined the pebble golem's body. It noticed the party, but doesn't seem to be very interested.
Some turned their eyes on the overwhelming piles of stuff. Dumalapdap found a handful of tokens inscribed with monkeys. Eumining-gud found a sarong with softneck turtle patterns; wearing it makes her neck longer. Alon found a pedal harp made of solid gold, buried under a pile of sandals. Tusok found the clothes of his former group.
The mystery of what happened to the group that came before them weighed on their minds. They remembered something Sikkukurut said. Trapped here, was it?
Treasure Logistics
The party decided to check if the boat they came in with is still where it was, in the mouth of the ruin. Half of the party wanted to bring the gold harp with them. It could make a dent in their collective Debt, after all.
The harp was heavy, made of solid gold. It required two pairs of hands to carry. It was a manageable problem until they got to the teak log path above the abyss. Can't really hop while carrying a large golden instrument, can they?
An illustration of the situation, by Tusok
After much deliberation, they had a solution: stick their swords underneath the harp to act as skiis, then pull the harp across with some rope.
The plan seemed to work. The harp was halfway through the teak log bridge when they heard a roar of twittering and fluttering. A swarm of kingfishers were heading their way. Almost everyone are on the other side already, but Dumalapdap was right behind the harp, pushing it. He hugged the log he was on and waited for the swarm to pass him by. And pass him by they did.
After the swarm, getting the harp to the other side was an easy task.
The Closed Mouth
The party reached the mouth of the ruin. Something was different. Gone was the sunlight reflecting on shimmering water, now it's just completely dark.
Their boat was still there. Alon and Tusok used it to go where the opening used to be, only to be met with solid rock. Sikkukurut was right. They are trapped.
AFTERTHOUGHTS
Ever had moments in a session when you forget details of rooms or encounters? Or when you change a feature of an adventure because you think it would be cool, but in the back of your mind you hope this change doesn't betray the other elements of the adventure?
This session had a lot of those. Here's hoping nothing breaks lol.
At least my group said they had fun. :D

ALRIGHT CLASS, LET US BEGIN
We'll start with my right side! Here you can see quite a hearty mix of patches and buttons and pins. I of course needed to have my heart on my sleeve, and an Evangelion patch from my first roommate that. Actually might be the oldest contribution I have on here? She gave it to me in my first semester in college I believe, and even the kind-hearted degenerate pin was given to me as a birthday present, later in the school year.
I also have some Japanese patches - one that reads "anzen daiichi", "Safety first!", and the patch above it being a Hokusai painting! I got that patch from the MFA, in Boston, along with the corresponding pin that I received from my dear friend I was visiting at the time ^-^
Beneath that pin is my TMA Vast pin, designed by Greer Stother, and below THAT is my New York Public Library pin from when I. Just decided to skip class last November and spend the day in NYC!
Continuing down, we have a Fallen London patch associated very commonly with Seeking Mr. Eaten's Name, and other similarly grisly storylines.
And after that, rounding off this side, is my Mountain Goats Ten of Swords tarot patch!
Moving on, we have my left front! This is taking. Way longer than I would've liked lmao and I do have work tomorrow morning so! Let me explain. No, there is too much; let me sum up.
Here we have a whole bunch of Fandom patches and pins!! Perhaps most notably are my Nerdfighteria accountrements; the DFTBA patch is genuinely kind of ancient, and honestly at this point the pizza pin probably is too; it was from a Pizzamas some number of years ago where Hank and John were trying to see whether more folks would want the deep dish or think crust (Chicago style vs New York style) pizzas, and of course I had to bat for NYC ^-^
The emotional creature and flowery survival patches are both just delightful finds i got from Strange Ways that I rather liked!! Additionally, we have some items of Sentimental Value, including my Bangladeshi flag patch made for me by @floratropics !!! And my Mountain Goats jam jar patch that I acquired last December, in the halcyon days.
I also have my Wawa pin from my time working there that I'm unfortunately too attached to to get rid of 🥹
Also the Hell and Lightning patch! I. Don't know what that is, it just looked cool!
On the BACK we have!!!!!!! A bee patch from my dear friend @the-specters-stag from a WHILE ago, and a mushroom patch I acquired from! A festival i will not be returning to, unfortunately.
The little Fresno nightcrawler patch was acquired from!!! Hot topic. And the big boy back patch was from Etsy!!! the terrible sewing along the top was my attempt at freehand stitching the "To Become Fire Rather Than Be Burned" Correspondence sigil. I'm planning on filling it in soon also!!!
AND BEHOLD!!! MY NEWEST ADDITIONS!!!! Studs and spikes!!!! Not much else to say here, beyond the fact that they look sick as hell and were from @gluttonsfork !!!!!
THANK YOU ALL FOR COMING WITH ME ON THIS JACKET JOURNEY SORRY IT TOOK SO LONG TO POST I TALK SO FUCKING MUCH
Battle jacket 👀👀👀👀
YES! I HAVE A JACKET COVERED IN PATCHES AND SEWING. AND I THINK IM GONNA BE ADDING SPIKES SOON. WOULD THE CLASS BE INTERESTED IN PICS?
#i almost shit a brick bc it looked like this draft didn't save before i posted it but when i went to edit it again everything came up#thank fucking goodness

"stephanie," sassi holford
images: sassi holford
sassi holford's sweet jacket evokes late nineteenth century two-piece dresses. featuring puffed shoulders, front buttons, and princess seams, its brocade instantly elevates any nuptial outfit. i particularly like the dovetail detail in the back.

If anyone’s wondering where the Chartered Accountrates came from in Saturation? This. This is their birthplace and where I got the concept both of accountant pirates and also a vague idea of what they dress like! You’ll probably want to turn your volume up, this one’s very quiet.

Do you prefer wedding ceremony + Xiao Qi's oath in ep. 33 or the version in the book which Awu just runs into Xiao Qi's arms in front of everyone when she returns to the manor and then they have a good sex?
Ah, we are still not shying away from hard questions, I see. This one shall require some consideration, it really will. Or... maybe not.
What I love about the way this whole monogamy plotline has been adapted is that we get all the same basic elements, only rearranged in a different order and somewhat condensed. And with delicious, delicious extras to boot! Well, the only thing missing is a good bout of lovemaking, although I daresay it slots in quite neatly right after Xiao Qi returns on the morrow after the Re-do Wedding and before their visit with the Screechers. This whole helping-my-wife-dress thing does not fool me, let me tell you.
Other than that? We get a party apiece, an oath of monogamy, the oh so touching promise that all of Xiao Qi’s children will be birthed by Awu and a widespread belief that it is no use offering any concubines to Xiao Qi. What’s the difference, one might say; ah, but there is a difference!
I know I’ve been touting book!Xiao Qi as this ruthless, right-in-your-face type of guy, but this time it’s drama!Xiao Qi who takes the laurel of the most unashamed, bluntest bastard under the sun. Smug, too. I mean, it’s one thing to make sure that everybody and their dog knows about your unswerving monogamy, and quite another to throw a bash in order to announce it in person. And not a birthday bash, which surreptitiously serves as a way to compensate your wife for a spoiled wedding, no, a bloody Re-do Wedding with all the proper accountrements. Because whyever not. That’s such a ballsy move that I can’t help but award drama!Xiao Qi maximum points for that alone.
#ask and answer#the rebel princess#but really it is like asking apples or oranges#both are good and both have their place#and both are generally fruitshaped and tasty
