ugh I have to write an abstract. this is the first time I'm trying to start a new project since I've been sick. it's been a year since I've had to 1) have a new academicky thought, 2) present it in a word limit, 3) present it in such a way that people will want to know more about it.

this thing is due on the 20th. I put in some time today, but these wheels are even rustier than I thought. meanwhile I do have a whole class to prep for for the 21st. in theory this should be easy: i don't need to have a brand new idea, just put my dissertation work in terms this workshop will like. which shouldn't be hard, it's very relevant. but i just. don't remember how.

i know that i need to do this. half the reason i'm bothering to try is that it is a next hump that i need to get over. even if they don't pick me, just the act of writing and submitting it will be salutary. i know this. but god i don't want to. i have been taking steps like this and just white-knuckling my way through them for what feels like an eternity at this point. and it has always worked out thus far; it has always been the right thing to do. i have been glad to have completed each one. but i've been doing the right thing to do so much, for so long. i do it nineteen times a day (that is not a hyperbolic number, that is the literal count) at bare minimum just to hold my body together. i'm tired. i don't want to do this. but i want to want to.

i think about the poem dunt a lot. i feel like that river and that statue. not all the time, but a lot more of it than i'd like.
