Alright, maybe I'm just being weird or something, but I find it really interesting that in the games, Phoenix sticks to saying darn up until Farewell, My Turnabout (that I remember), where he starts saying damn instead. I think it's really telling of his mental state during the entire ordeal tbh.

Ace knew that his mama wasn't going to be letting any of them out of her sight any time soon. The fact that the Whitebeard pirates had been allowed near him? It was a testament to her self-control. Anyone else would have been gutted and left for dead. Still, he and his brothers knew that it wasn't easy and that her instructs were at war with each other, the more logical part of her knew that the Whitebeard pirates were not threat to him and his brothers. But she had almost lost, and her more animalistic side was more at the forefront. There was no telling which way it would swing. Ace knew that those who lived aboard the Moby wouldn't be used to seeing such things, the way that they britsled when she snapped and snarled at their captain. Even Marco, the one who should have at least understood, was not happy with the situation. Still, it was nice seeing Luffy with his crew. They all had a long way to go, and Ace was excited that he would be able to see them come into their own. Each one of them was going to be a powerhouse in their own right. Ace knew that there was a lot that he needed to worry about, the government setting their eyes on their mama for a start, not that she would make it easy. Being a demon and all. But that didn't mean that she wouldn't make a mistake; she would eventually, but it was rare that she made mistakes. Ace knew that the government would be chasing her for decades, if not longer, before she slipped. Ace watched as she interacted with Luffy and Sabo. She was gentle with her actions, which were different to how she interacted with everyone else. Gramps had yet to show his face but Ace knew that he would come round and soon, he was no doubt dealing with a lot of shit in regards to what happened. The man hadn't always been the best, but he did love and care for them. Ace knew that they had put him in a dangerous situation by becoming pirates. Ace knew why Garp wanted them to become Marines; he would be able to protect them better. Ace had no faith in the system, not like Garp. He never would. Ace relaxed into the giant pile of pillows and wondered when the rest of the family would get here; no one was foolish enough to leave their mama by herself. Not when she was on a warpath.

Some pre-fall sibling fluff! I’ve gone back and forth about what to do with Stentor’s character for a while, but I think I’ve got it figured out. For this au, Stentor is still adopted, however this happened before Taygetos (by at least a year or two). In canon, he’s the eldest—he’s at least 30 when you first meet him, as that’s when Spartan men would become eligible for command positions. Here, though, he’s a few years younger than Alexios. I think it really sets the family up for a different dynamic going forward.

This version of Stentor, only being 6 or 7 when Alexios and Kassandra ‘died’, would have looked up to his brother quite a bit. Alexios was smart, sharp, and strong (helped along by the whole demigod thing) and up until the fall was the epitome of a good spartan child. At least as far as baby Stentor over here was concerned. The adults thought that similarly but also thought he was a stubborn little shit.

I’m going back and forth on whether to include the ‘boy king’ idea from my post about whether Alexios would have been in line for/already on the throne or not, which changes things as well. I’m leaning towards yes, although I haven’t decided how to resolve it past Alexios not returning to the position. I think it would he hysterical if they were desperate for him to come back because of Pleistoanax and/or Pausanias’ betrayal and he is absolutely not having it.

Side note, the outline for this story just keeps getting longer and longer. This thing is going to be long lmao

..okay I can’t help myself so here are some Antares design notes to follow on from last night:

Her main colour is the teal I’ve used here for two reasons. One is that Antares directly translates to “rival/enemy of Ares”, with Ares being the ancient Greek god of war (to the Romans, Mars); the IRL star is named this because it is also red and appears bright enough that it can be mistaken for the planet Mars, but I thought it would be neat to instead make her colour scheme the opposite of red, so near green (because rivals). However, it’s specifically this teal because it’s the colour of a certain other Team Meteor member - namely, Absolute. (Whose perhaps-more-familiar real name is Lin.)

I tested a number of different eye colours for her, including red (like the IRL star as said above), purple, gold, and the teal seen in the rest of this outfit (but it was perhaps a bit too same-y given how I made the outfit here). I think the grey works well, though - I’m just not 100% set on it.

Her hairstyle might seem a bit odd - her overall look is very sporty and not overly feminine but then her hair is half-up in twin plaits with bun things at the top? Well, that’s because Antares’ hairstyle here is the one I originally tried to use for Adriana. Except the fringe looks different because of her goggles and hairband. =3

(I know my other self-insert Nova also has this same hairband, and it was a pain to work around on her reference model, so I might not actually keep it on Antares’ - but it fits her vibes well, I think. She is kind of similar to Nova personality-wise anyway, if perhaps to a worse extent.)

Regarding her outfit, there are a fair few things to say. I think I started with the scarf and a sleeveless top - I don’t think a single other Team Meteor member has their shoulders out, so this detail is an easy way to make Antares stand out. However, the scarf and the elbow things help make the outfit less outright summery, which I think is good.

I had wanted to try and incorporate the Team Meteor logo - a red M - somewhere in her outfit, but that wasn’t really feasible in the constraints of this creator. Maybe it’s on the back of her top or something. You might be wondering why she isn’t just wearing an actual Team Meteor uniform, but this is because she is me and I can do whatever I want to, I’ve decided =P

I think I will change the shoes, because the ones I picked out on the creator make her look a bit too “normal Trainer”-y and not as “evil team member”-y. Other than that, though, I think the accessory details work well, though I might add some more details to the actual main clothes because they’re Very Plain right now.

Finally, this is actually not at all how I was originally intending her to look/dress. My first plan was to play off of the concept of a “joker”, since.. well, Ace represents the four card suits and thus the rest of the deck. But I couldn’t really envision how to do that in a way that still made Antares feel like me, so I went with more of a contrasting modern/sleek vibe instead of trying to match/complement their style.

..I should really try to make Adriana in this creator at some point, just to have a more direct comparison of the two (because that’s just fun, especially in this specific instance given the lore). Having said that, though, I can also just do it once/if I start trying to put together a reference model for Antares in MMD, given that Adriana has one.

Anyway, though, thank you to everyone who has read all of this. And for generally putting up with whatever this nonsense is. I at least am having fun despite the lingering bafflement.

i really cant buy the headcanon that phoenix and edgeworth were romantically interested in each other as kids or that they were in love for the 15 or so years they didnt see each other, like it just doesnt make any sense or work at all. but i dont think this actually contradicts the way i think some of those scenes in the anime felt a bit romance coded, or like viewing phoenixs becoming a lawyer for edgeworth as like a romantic gesture? like it wasnt actually motivated by romantic feelings at all but the actual motivations and everything that happens ends up contributing towards a romantic storyline? (from a shipping perpesctive that is obviously)
