Sweet Creature
Shino Aburame x gn!Reader
Word Count: 1k
Ao3
Summary: Shino introduces you to his Kikaichū.
Aburame Shino stood in a quiet and secluded clearing in one of the many forests of Konohagakure, the high grass surrounding him covering a part of his lean frame. The stoic expression on his face was partially hidden by the high collar of the jacket he always wore, the same one casting a shadow on his face.
Opposite him stood his partner, you, with a smile on your face, your head cocked to the side as you watched him with growing interest. A little adventure deep into the Konoha forest by the Aburame clan compound was most definitely not on your schedule today, but heading there with Shino was something you didn’t mind. When he told you earlier today that he had something to show you, your curiosity had spiked so much so that on the way into the forest, you could barely keep it to yourself. And since your boyfriend was not the most talkative of men, it was not like you had many hints and clues to work with to come to your own conclusion.
So, as you watched Shino hold out his hand for you to see, you sucked in a breath. Familiar bugs wriggled on his hand, almost as though they were letting out pent-up energy or some sort of emotion. “These are my partners,” He said, his voice slightly muffled from behind his collar. After having known him for so long, you have gotten used to it already. “The Kikaichū.”
As his partner and, before that, friend, it wasn’t like you didn’t know of his clan’s insects. In fact, you had encountered them plenty of times before already, but you had never truly been introduced to them in the way the Aburame see as fitting. That was an honour you had yet to be allowed to participate in, until now, that is.
“They may seem a bit intimidating at first, but they won’t harm you,” Shino always seemed to know the right words to speak to put you at ease. He knew you too well. “Trust me.”
As though wanting to demonstrate, Shino flexed his hand and watched the insects begin to scurry all over his skin, their tiny legs tickling him as they crawled. He was used to the sensation already, but still watched the insects go about with interest in his eyes.
You, on the other hand, watched with fascination, your gaze practically glued to their black little bodies wandering about.
“The Kikaichū feed on chakra,” You already knew that, but hearing Shino talk about his insects always caught your attention. He was never the big talker, preferring to stay quiet instead, but when he did talk, Shino’s voice came out in a lull that never failed to mesmerize you. “They are capable of draining an opponent’s energy in battle. They can also track scents and detect enemies.”
You leaned closer to his hand and the insects, peeking at them with interest. Then, you looked up at your boyfriend, “You know, Shino, I admire your knowledge about bugs. It’s so extensive, it’s impressive.”
Behind his high collar, Shino’s lips stretched into a smile, his cheeks feeling warm. “Would you like to hold one?”
For a moment, you said nothing as Shino moved one of the bugs over to his other hand. It wasn’t that you were scared of holding one of his trusted bugs, you knew that from the bottom of your heart, you could trust Shino, and yet this was a big step. He was trusting you with the safety of one of his bugs, which wasn’t exactly an everyday occurrence for either of you, and you were determined to treat it as such.
“Sure?” Almost tentatively, you reached out your hand. Shino moved his hand with the singular bug toward yours, the two of you watching as the insect crawled from his hand over to yours.
At first, the sensation of the little legs leaving a faint tingle behind left you shivering as you got used to the feeling. But then you watched the bug move around freely, almost as though it got used to the new space it got to occupy. It reminded you of the other bugs you had encountered already, but knowing that this specific one was one of Shino’s made holding it much more special.
“What a cute little bug,” You commented, your voice filled with wonder. As the bug moved toward the back of your hand, you turned it, so it wouldn’t be upside down. “Fast too.”
Shino chuckled softly. “That they are.”
He was well aware that to some, the Kikaichū can be unsettling companions to have. To see your fascination with the bugs that were so important to him and his entire existence as a Shinobi, to see you smile as his little companion moved all over your hand, made him happy, too. Shino could barely keep the smile off of his face as he watched, a warm feeling of contempt washing over him.
“Does it have a name?” You asked while turning your hand so that your palm would face upward again. Almost like a child captivated by their new toy, you didn’t even lift your head to look at your boyfriend as you continued, “He looks like a Shino Junior.”
At that, Shino raised a brow. “And how do you know it's a he?”
You shrugged. “I don’t know, he just feels like a he.”
“Well, the one you’re holding is a female, actually.”
“Oh,” Your gaze moved to look at the beetle-like bug again. “How do you know that? Which ones are female and which are male?”
“Female kikaichū like the one you’re holding right now can be placed on a target during a mission. They will then release a pheromone that the males are able to home in on,” Shino explained. “Growing up, I spent hours trying to find differences between them.”
With a newfound spark in your eyes, you lifted them to look at Shino. “Can you tell me more about the Kikaichū, please?”
There’s nothing he would love to do more.

can i rq shino & sai getting walked in on while in the act with their s/o :3 separate btw
Getting Walked In On
NSFW warning.
GN! Reader
Characters: Shino and Sai (separately)
Shino Aburame
Your legs are thrown over his shoulders as he thrusts into you, letting out soft groans each time. Your head is thrown back onto the pillow. You moan loudly, seeing as it’s your own house and you two are completely alone. His name falls off your tongue like honey as your hands cling to the sheets, gripping them like you’ll fly away if you let go.
You’re both so close, you can feel yourself contracting around him as the edge is in sight. His cock twitches, and it seems like this is it for both of you, but the door hitting the wall and a shouting voice interrupts you both.
It’s Kiba. He’s in shock.
“GET OUT!” You scream, throwing the bedside clock at his face. “YOU CAN’T JUST BARGE IN TO OTHER PEOPLE’S HOUSES!”
Meanwhile, Shino is covering you both with the comforter, hiding his face. He will not be able to continue after this. And next time, even the bedroom door will be locked even though it’s your own home.
Sai
His hands feel up all your curves, running along them, squeezing them, doing anything he can do, while his mouth leaves pretty, purple marks along your neck. To him, you’re like a blank canvas every time he gets to do this.
Well, not always blank. Sometimes, those marks he leaves are so good they last a while, and the next time, he gets to refresh those marks and leave new ones once he’s done admiring his work.
He trails his kisses down your body, until his head is between your legs. And he gets you so close to your orgasm as he teases you with his tongue and lips before the door opens.
“Hey, Sai have you seen— holy shiT, MAYBE LOCK THE DOOR???” Naruto shouts, covering his eyes and turning around.
Sai looks up, smiling that cheesy, snarky smile with either your slick or his own drool on his lips and dripping off his chin. He’s not ashamed in the least as he speaks, “Maybe you should knock before entering my room. I’m not giving any lessons.”
Naruto shouts back defensively about how he doesn’t need lessons as he fumbles for the door, finally getting it and slamming it shut, running off.
“Sai… that was mean. You cheeky bas—“ You get interrupted by your own gasp as his head returns between your legs.

hihi ignore if you want or if you dont write him but if you perchance write for shino aburame (naruto or boruto version idm which) then could i maybe get a little something with him anything is fine thank you and please have a good day :3
Of course!! I'll include some general headcanons, relationship headcanons, then a little story :D I kept it sfw for now but if you'd like nsfw you can ask for that too! (You can dm or submit another ask, either is fine! I also kept the reader gender neutral, so if you want that to be changed you can also add that)
Thank you so much for the request! <33
Rolly Polly | Shino x reader
Shino Aburame x reader SFW
Contents: Headcanon bulletpoints, story, established relationship, neurodivergent Shino, reader is also implied neurodivergent but it's not brought up much, mention of bugs, mention of Hinata having a crush on Naruto
Headcanons
-This man is absolutely autistic no doubt about it. Probably doesn't like stuff touching his face and his eyes are sensitive to light which is why he covers so much
-Feel like he's gender apathetic or agender but comfortable with he/him pronouns or just his name
-Scary amount of knowledge of bugs. Obviously as a bug user he knows a lot, but like, he knows more than the rest of his family. Full on studies even bugs that he has no need to know of. Probably his special interest
-Speaking of bugs, perhaps an odd headcanon but I think his bugs will choose you if they think you're right for him; a type of blessing. They'll occasionally hop onto you when you and Shino are hanging out, or sometimes Shino will send some with you to make sure you're safe. Of course, if you tell him you don't like the bugs being on you, he'll stop doing it/have the bugs not move to you.
-Not a fan of excessive pda. I think maybe he'll hold your hand often but no kissing in public or anything. He's a more private guy.
-In private though, I think he'd be quite touch-clingy. Even if it's just a hand on your arm while you're sitting next to each other doing your own things, he appreciates being constantly affectionate. However, I think he'd get overstimulated if it's too much for too long. Doesn't like a bunch of cuddling when you're going to sleep. I can imagine him liking your head resting on his chest, your arms being intertwined, legs touching, or holding hands while falling asleep. Something to make you guys feel close, but not enough to feel overwhelming.
-Probably has one or two special petnames for you
-Big on formal dates. He likes taking you out to eat at fancy restaurants, however I can't see him getting super dressed up. Probably more neat than usual, but not super divergent from his usual look.
-But also is down for more casual dates like fast food/more informal food places, parks, amusement parks, etc. as long as they're not too loud
-Also hates loud noises. I think overall he gets overstimulated easily
-Not a fan of his body/showing much skin. If you guys were ever to be intimate,
-You have to like his friends; although he isn't super outgoing towards them, they mean a lot to them, especially Hinata and Kiba. As a team they've become so close that it's one for all.
Short story
You were lounging outside of your home, enjoying the sunlight. You were expecting Shino to come by, but weren't sitting out here just to wait. You wanted to indulge in your surroundings and relax a bit, to get a break from the monotony of your room. You look down and see a rolly polly walking by near the leg of your outdoor bench. You smile at the little guy, since you've formed an interest in bugs through extension of your partner.
You hear someone walk closely, thinking nothing of it, since your place is near a main street. However, the footsteps stop.
"Ah, an Armadillidium vulgare. Do you like those?" You hear Shino's voice from behind you, causing you to turn back and face him, smile still plastered on your face. You nodded. "Yea, I think they're neat."
"Did you know they have gills? They're crustaceans." He said, sitting down next to you.
"No, I didn't! That's interesting."
You guys fell into a comfortable silence as he intertwined his fingers with yours. You sat there together for a bit, enjoying the company.
After a while, you break the silence.
"What type of day is it hun? We staying in, going out?" You look at him.
"Perhaps we could go on a walk?" He proposed.
"That sounds like a good idea. Let me get a better outfit on and we can go, 'kay? You can either sit out here or come in, up to you!" You smile.
"Alright, I'll sit inside and wait."
You two walk inside and he sits down on your couch. You find your way to your room and change into a comfortable outfit, putting on your shinobi sandals and konoha headband. You finish off with the perfume/cologne that you knew Shino liked the most; it wasn't very strong but prominent enough to smell, which he liked. You grabbed your wallet and phone just in case, tossing the former in your back pocket. Entering your living room, you see Shino attempting to brush what you assumed to be dog fur off his jacket.
"Hung out with Kiba recently?" You ask, grabbing your lint roller and handing it to him.
"Yea. He wanted me to see a new jutsu he created for him and Akamaru. It needs work, but it was a good idea. You should ask him about it sometime." He said, tone as flat as ever, but you could tell he was admiring Kiba's work.
"I will! I'm always excited to see what Kiba's up to, he's a pretty cool guy. What about Hinata, what's she been up to?" You ask, intrigued.
"The usual. Lots of training, lots of gushing about Naruto. I don't get how he doesn't see right through her, she's so painfully in love with him, it's clear."
"He's... a bit of an airhead."
"That's one way to put it."
"Pff- anyway, you ready?" You ask.
"Yea. Let's go." He replied, getting up.
You both exit your home and you lock the door before you both interlock hands again.
You enjoyed a nice walk around the surrounding woods, allowing him to share information about any insects the two of you encountered. This was you two's favorite activity- it was a great way to bond, given Shino's difficulty having normal conversations due to his autistic lack of social skills. You also got times to talk about interests, though. He made sure it wasn't just him talking about things he enjoyed; he wanted to know you just as much.
As the sun set, you guys headed back to your house. You assumed he was walking you home, but when you were near your destination, he spoke.
"Can I stay with you tonight? I'd like some affection."
You look at him and smile, pleasantly surprised by his request. "Of course! Do you wanna go by your place and get something to wear? If not I might have some stuff you could fit" You offer.
"No need to walk all that way, I can either take my jacket off or borrow something."
"Alright!" The smile was evident in your voice.
You were practically skipping as you completed your walk home together. You unlocked the door and slipped off your shoes, eager to decompress after being out for so long. He does the same, for the same reasons. He takes his coat off and folds it neatly, laying it on the arm of your couch, same place he always does. You both gradually find your way to your room after grabbing a snack. Nothing messy, because he often got on you for having crumbs on your bed.
He ended up asking for a different shirt, which you happily obliged. Knowing Shino wasn't a fan of tight clothes, you gave him one of your bigger shirts.
He didn't bother stepping out of the room to change, feeling plenty comfortable being in the same room while he did. You didn't see him shirtless much, so you got flustered when he did, admiring him wholesomely. He noticed, getting a bit flustered himself. Shino isn't particularly proud of his body, so its heartwarming to know you like it. He tosses the shirt on and joins you in bed.
"You're so handsome." You say as you snuggle up to him.
"Thank you, my lunar moth." He chuckles nervously, but in a good way.
You both lay down, and you rest on his chest as he puts on some documentary about something you both like. You quickly fall asleep, happy it was with him.

Exposure Therapy (Shino x Reader)
Request:
Word Count: 1.3k
Tags/Warnings: Entomophobia, Insects, Large Amounts of Bugs on You, A Shibi Feature!!, Alcohol, Hangover
Notes: It’s actually kinda gross, so if you’re squeamish when it comes to insects, maybe sit this one out. This ultimately took on more Shibi than I expected.
You could’ve cried. You would have if it weren’t for the emptied, vacated streets. The surrounding area had been completely deserted, except for you, Shino, and a few thousand rogue Aburame beetles. It was just you and an absolutely wasted, nearly unconscious Shino who leaked beetles like water.
“Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god,” you were practically flinching as you supported Shino from under his arm. You quickly shut your mouth as you felt the sensation of tiny legs at the edge of your lips. He was heavier than he looked, although you should have expected as much with his height and still fully equipped vest. Together, you lumbered through the streets.
Shino’s beetles covered every inch of the surrounding area, completely morphing fences and rooftops. The light above you flickered, casting the shadow of a moving, shambling mass onto the pavement below. You were not immune to the infestation, extremely aware of all the little legs that tickled their way through your hair and under your collar.
You had popped in your standard-issue earplugs before you left the bar with Shino, which proved wise as the insects clung to the shell of your ear. It was for the better. You knew the experience would have been much worse if you could hear the churning of exoskeleton on exoskeleton. A few of them clung to the window of your goggles, along for the ride as you returned Shino to the only place you thought to take him.
To your surprise, Shibi didn’t seem bothered by being woken up in the dead of night. He stared down at you from the front door of the Aburame residence, absolutely covered from head to toe in beetles. They seemed to march from Shino directly to you. Shibi couldn’t even see an inch of flesh or fabric on the side that supported Shino. Only one of your eyes was visible behind your goggles. You swiped beetles away from your mouth.
“I’m sorry to wake you, sir!” you said a bit louder than necessary. “I don’t know what happened! He had two sips of something, and he completely collapsed! I didn’t know where to go!”
Shibi took you in, and you heaved Shino to his room together. You laid him out on top of his sheets, and for the next hour, Shibi proceeded to scoop Shino’s beetles off of you into a cardboard box he had plopped under Shino’s arm. He cleared them away with indescribable confidence, talking palmfuls upon palmfuls of insects to shake off into the box.
“Do you think he was drugged?” you glanced at Shibi nervously, alarmed by his lack of urgency at his son’s medical state. Beetles fluttered around, spanning out across the small room. He shook his head.
“No, just another Aburame man who can’t hold his liquor.” He frowned, a contrast to your nervous laugh.
“He didn’t even drink. He had maybe a sip of beer if that.” Shibi stopped. You could see the slightest bit of his eyes as his glasses slipped down his nose.
“Shino should have known better then.”
The rest of the beetle removal was made in silence. You excused yourself to the restroom to grab the stragglers from under your clothes before returning with about forty beetles collected in a jar. Shibi shook them into the box before gently covering it with a lid. Insects continued to pass in and out through the two side holes.
“These aren’t poisonous, are they?” you asked, the thought suddenly dawning on you. Shibi passed you, slipping out the door just down the hall to the kitchen. He motioned for you to follow.
“I wouldn’t worry about it,” he answered. Not the most reassuring. Shibi lit the stove with a match before sliding a heavy-looking kettle over the fire. He turned to you as you stood in the doorway, your tactical vest hanging over your arm. “You don’t have to stay, of course, but I do enjoy a late-night cup of tea myself.” He gave you a curt nod as he turned to take out cups.
You sat down at the chabudai. Shibi placed down two cups before fetching the tea to pour. Hot steam wafted up into the air. He sat down across from you.
“I remember you from the Academy,” Shibi mused, sipping his tea. You gave your cup a light touch to find it pleasantly at the perfect temperature.
“Oh?” you hummed, not entirely remembering the sort of impression you gave at age five. Shibi gave another nod as he set his cup down gently on the table.
“Yes, I always thought you were a poor little thing. Cried at the sight of me every time.” You remembered as soon as he said it. As young as you were, you didn’t quite remember who caused you so much distress at Academy pick-up time, and the memory rushed straight back to you. Your face froze in dread as you wracked your head for a response. You must’ve made a face. Shibi only chuckled, extending a hand over the table as if to physically wave off your worry. “Those old Aburame gourds sure made a lot of ruckus for battle. Good for scaring off enemies. Maybe not so great for little kids.”
“I’m very sorry, Mr. Aburame,” you said, head instinctually bowed a bit forward. He waved you off again as he nursed his tea.
“No need, please. We, as humans, evolved to have a certain wariness of insects. It’s why they’re so effective on the field.” Shibi chuckled to himself again. He moved to take another sip from his tea but stopped short. He held his cup in both hands halfway up to his mouth. “Thank you for bringing my son home. You’ve always treated Shino well. You certainly have my gratitude.”
You parted your lips before closing them again, once again at a loss for words.
“We’re… close.” You opted, hoping that Shibi wouldn’t pry too hard.
He didn’t ask at all.
***
Shino woke up with the worst, most raging hangover.
It was well into the afternoon by the time he mustered up the energy to leave his room for something to eat. He had stripped off his jacket and gear, leaving them haphazardly around his room. Shibi was already in the kitchen, an assortment of foods in various stages of preparation scattered around him.
“Dad?” Shino rubbed his eyes, the light hurting his head as he trudged through the doorway. An array of fresh vegetables from the garden sat in baskets across the counter. “Is it a holiday?”
“Your friend is coming for dinner. The one who brought you home last night.” Shibi placed a small bowl of clear soup in Shino’s hands. “Eat this; it will make you feel much better.”
Shino didn’t have the energy to deny him. He slumped down at the chabudai where you sat the night before, pushing away rising doughs and covered greens to make enough room for him to eat. Shibi placed a large glass of warm water in front of him.
“Why are we having a feast?” Shino grumbled, his fatigued head not quite understanding.
“I want the poor little thing to come back. Good conversation is hard to come by.” Shibi ran his knuckles across the side of Shino’s face, humming disapprovingly. “You need to shave. I’m doing this for your sake, so you best clean yourself up.” Shino massaged his forehead, keeping his head down to avoid the glare from the window.
“Not so loud, please.”
Shibi scoffed, returning to his cooking.
“A beer,” he muttered. “What were you thinking?”
“It won’t happen again.” Shino stood, his empty bowl in his hand as he lumbered toward the sink. Shibi turned to snatch the bowl from his hand with a hum.
“You wouldn’t be my son if you didn’t have to see things for yourself. Go wash up now. We have lots of preparation to do.”
Shino shuffled out of the kitchen with a new promise to swear off alcohol.
Thank you to all who liked, reblogged, followed, and supported. Your support means so much and is greatly appreciated.
Notes: Wow, the poc experience really seeped through on this one. I’d like to think that Shino just turned of age and didn’t know what his reaction would be to alcohol. Also, I kept thinking of that one lady who saves bees and just takes handfuls of them and scoops them into travel hives haha

Love and friendship know no distance - Shino x Reader x Hinata (platonic)
Have been carrying this idea with me for a while. There's a whole lotta lore behind this, but I think I managed to not overwhelm the story. Plays out after the War.
tagging: @missalienqueen @snuggleboots @brusselsproutofdoom, @shadowwolf202101blog @neonrogueraven @respitable @remusbestboy
The truth is, you hadn’t meant to make Konoha an ally. Not really.
Konoha is, after all, the village that brought up Orochimaru. Did nothing but turn their heads to his experiments, pretending he wasn’t slowly losing his mind and his morals.
Konoha’s failure brought destruction over your whole country yet they like to blame you for it, not the man who caused it all.
Well… they don’t exactly blame you.
But if your father’s blood runs through your veins, there’s nothing you can do about the blame attached to it.
“I am the Daimyō of the Land of Sound,” you declare at the gate, its size another slap in the face. Oh, how mighty you are, Land of Fire. But you still need a gate to keep us out, still use a gate to keep your people in.
And you suppose their doubts are not unfounded. You’re not wearing any fancy clothes, come bearing no treasures, unguarded to the untrained eye.
But you won’t spare any fancy things on a country like this.
-
“We were not notified of your father’s death,” the Hokage explains, grey-haired and lazy-eyed. Kakashi of the Sharingan.
You wonder if he’s seen through you already; if the Sharingan is truly as mighty as they all say. Orochimaru, after all, died for it.
“So far only the Daimyō of the Land of Rivers has arrived. You are pretty early. I’d like to assist you in your protection, offer you one or two Shinobi.”
You want to deny it, before thinking better of it. Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.
“One would be enough.”
“Alright. Shikamaru, who do we have? And don’t forget, only the best of the best for a Daimyō.”
“Team 8 just came back in. Genma’s-”
“Team 8 would be perfect,” Lord Sixth turns back to you, “I assume you want to pick them yourself?”
“Affirmative.”
-
Shikamaru, just as lazy-eyed as the Hokage he’s supposed to be advising, has gathered a few more Shinobi it seems. Or maybe this is a test.
It’s not hard to figure out who belongs together, their familiarity hard to ignore.
There’s a blond girl who’s not afraid to slap the hands of a boy reaching for a snack. He looks sweet, circles on his cheeks indicating that he belongs to the Akimichi Clan. The pink-haired girl and the blond guy are standing too close for it to be accidental and though you can practically feel the Chakra coming off him in waves it’s clear that he cannot keep quiet for even a second.
A white dog takes up the space two people could occupy. Its eyes stare right back into yours and as if trying to give you a hint, it winks at you. Its owner is just as chatty as the blond guy, but the other two people belonging to his team - the connection is undeniable - are calmer, used to staying in the back.
Dark glasses reflect your own face. It’s hard to tell what this guy’s thinking, but you don’t dare to assume he’s underestimating you. If anything, he might be the first to have you figured out.
Behind him, half-hidden, lavender eyes peer back at you, sadness pooling in their milkiness. She reminds you of your mother though looking nothing like her and the pang of loneliness is strong enough to make you move.
“Yes?” Shikamaru turns.
“The Hyuuga,” you call out, bones still shaking with emotion. Are they all like that? Or is it just her?
-
Hinata is a quiet presence at your side.
She doesn’t push herself onto you, though you cannot forget that she’s there and her silence only makes you crave noise even more.
“What does your name mean?” You ask when she leads you down the roads to the place you’re supposed to stay.
“A place in the sun, My Lady.”
“Were you born in the summer?”
“December 27th, My Lady.”
Winter, you have to close your eyes at the thought, a shiver running through you, how fitting.
“Do you like the snow?” The question has slipped out of your mouth before you can stop it, a sensation scary and unfamiliar.
Her eyes light up for a second, the ghost of a smile passing over her face.
“I love it.”
Loneliness claws at your heart so unexpectedly that you stumble. She’s at your side in a second and you barely manage to fight her off before she touches you.
She might have been warm to the touch. You wouldn’t have been able to take that.
-
You realize your error late at night.
To have only one Guard means that she cannot go home, get rest, or take a break.
Is it selfish though, that you want her to yourself a little while longer?
You’ve managed to get her to drop the formal title over Dinner and though you’re sticking to steamed rice and green tea she doesn’t mind conversing over the food that is offered.
“We are famous for our roasted chestnuts,” she explains. “At least that’s what Temari says.”
“Temari?” You take a sip of the tea, heart thundering at the possibility that it could be poisoned. Though Hinata’s shared quite a few cups with you and she’s fine.
“Shikamaru’s fiancée, she’s from Sunagakure.”
It’s only in the morning that you regret your decision.
Hinata’s passed out by the kitchen table, hair fanned out over the dark wood, her pale skin a stark contrast.
You cannot wake her without making known that she slacked on the job.
This isn’t how it’s supposed to be.
Konoha might not be your enemy, but it’s not your friend, not supposed to be for a long while.
After all that has passed, after all that you’ve been through, you cannot lose your mind to the first girl with sad eyes.
But, your mind whispers back, defiant, I’ve always wanted a friend.
-
“If you feel bad for falling asleep,” you threaten her the moment she blinks herself awake, “I will throw you out.”
“I-” she stutters, red flushing her cheeks, “I…”
“I’d rather have your opinion on who else to appoint,” you tell her matter-of-factly, “than an apology. I don’t like people who talk all the time and don’t listen to the important stuff. Who do you want as your companion on this job?”
Her eyes flitter around, a milky-white that makes your heart ache for your mother, the power of her hands, the first snow of the year.
“Shino… I pick Shino.”
“Shino it will be.”
-x-
“My Lady,” Shino puts a cup of tea in front of you and steps back.
Across from you, the Daimyō of the Land of Fire is stuffing his face with spicy noodles. And he’s not the only one scarfing down the impressive feast Konoha has prepared for them.
You, however, are only served steamed white rice and green tea, both prepared by Hinata and served by Shino because these are the only ones you can - barely - trust.
“Sad to hear of your father’s passing,” the Daimyō of the Land of Iron declares, wiping his mouth.
“I’m not.”
Silence falls over the room. The Daimyō of the Land of Lightning is a little slow on the uptake, the noise of his chewing obnoxiously loud.
“How… how did he die, anyway?” Someone asks. You direct your eyes at them, watch them shrink under your gaze. It’s the Daimyō of the Land of Water.
“He was sentenced to death for his crimes.”
“Crimes?”
“What else would you call what he did?” Your brows lift in question. They swallow nervously, so you allow yourself to elaborate.
“Sold his land and his people to an egoistic maniac. Did nothing to stop the madness when it started, instead profited off it. Or do you condone human experiments?”
“No, of course not, no.”
“Who…” The Daimyō of the Land of Fire clears his throat awkwardly, “Who’s the Otokage now? If Orochimaru is gone. And he’s gone, I understand?”
“Oh, yes, he is gone. As the position of Otokage and Daimyō cannot be held by the same person, my Sensei, Hirota Hitoshi.”
“Never heard of him,” someone mutters in the back and though you don’t smile, you can’t help but think that that’s how it’s supposed to be.
“So, the Land of Sound is struggling, right?” The Daimyō of the Land of Fire asks directly. “What gives you the idea?”
“You’re here.”
“Touché.” You smile, though it’s more a blaring of your teeth, “We are but a small country, looking for means to invent us new. Maybe we’ll go back to what we used to be before. The Land of Rice Fields had a nice ring to it.”
“Hmm… How many Shinobi do you have?”
“Oh, not many.”
“You might think that,” the Daimyō of the Land of Fire is not as stupid as he looks, “But I’d like a concrete number.”
You hesitate only for a second before you name it, knowing that it will change the trajectory of all oncoming conversations.
Their gasps of surprise don’t feel as satisfying as you had thought.
“We-”
“We’d like to form an Alliance,” the Daimyō of the Land of Earth declares before anyone else can get more than a word in.
You rise from your pillow.
“I’ll let you think about it,” you exclaim without a smile, “I need to rest now. Shino?”
His arm links with his, an unnecessary show of assistance. It’s the first time he’s touched you too, and quite bold for the man you’ve gotten to know over the last days.
But maybe he sensed something you’d blocked out, because your legs don’t want to work like they used to, your steps growing slower and slower as soon as the door closes behind you.
“Have I been poisoned?” You ask, the question slipping from your mouth without your intention, yet again.
“Not to my knowledge. I’d say you’re malnourished. You’ve eaten nothing but steamed rice for the last days, correct?”
“I’ve done it before,” you bite through your teeth, pushing yourself up. His arm stays linked with yours.
“I can take you to your place without anyone seeing,” Shino offers and though you can only see yourself reflected in his glaces, you accept. Hinata proposed him as your Guard, after all.
-
Hinata feeds you bone broth first, then Ramen, going so far as to gently pressure you into swallowing one spoonful after the other.
It doesn’t take long to find the source of your sudden weakness, an old injury opening.
Shino’s the one who calls in a medic, the same pink-haired girl you’ve seen on your first day. She’s remarkably quiet, checking you over with the eyes of someone who knows what they’re doing.
“If you talk about this,” you tell her with an air of someone who never gets denied a thing, “I’ll make sure you regret it.”
She huffs. “Don’t threaten me, I’m saving your life.”
“I’m saving my own life.”
Her eyes are green, spring-like in the worst way.
After all, spring is the death of winter, the end of all things you hold dear.
“This is Konoha-” she starts, only to be interrupted. Shino’s hand lands heavy on her shoulder, Hinata’s warm fingers curl around yours.
“Can we just focus on making her well for now?” She asks, her voice managing to be warm and cold at the same time, like sun on a winters day.
-
“Can you tell me about your education?” You ask when Sakura’s gone and you’ve grown tired of lying on your back. “Do you have a school or do you learn from your families?”
“Both,” Hinata explains, lowering a warm, moist towel on your forehead. It smells like lavender. “What, uh… do you want to know?”
“You’re going to be late,” Shino cuts in from the kitchen, a shadow in a shadow. “Naruto’s picking you up in half an hour.”
She doesn’t say it but you can see that she’s torn. Torn between staying and leaving, you think.
“Naruto?” You ask, thinking of the blond guy who couldn’t stop talking. “Your friend?”
“Boyfriend,” she explains, cheeks red, “But I can call of the date if you need me.”
“I won’t die tonight,” you exclaim, thinking it funny until she pales. “I swear, I’m fine. Besides, Shino’s here to watch me. Or do you have a date as well?”
He doesn’t answer and somehow that’s answer enough.
When the door closes behind her the room feels suddenly too small for the two of you.
“Were you trained by your family, Shino?” You ask, hoping that a different topic will get rid of whatever this is.
“Yes. Most families have special Jutsu that they train their children in. Isn’t it the same in the Land of Sound?”
“It is, but not everyone has a family to train with.”
“I understand.”
“Do you?” The question comes out harsher than intended. He doesn’t back down.
“I lost my brother in the war. My mother died when I was born.” His tone doesn’t ask for sympathy yet you cannot help but extend it to him. Your mother is the reason you survived.
“What’s your family's special Jutsu? You do have one, don’t you?”
Instead of an answer, he raises his arm. Dark dots appear on the pale skin. Only when they take flight do you realize that they’re insects.
One, two, three land on top of the blanket covering you.
You watch them move for a minute before you lift your own arm as well. Ice starts to cover it like a second skin, breaking off in flakes at first before you get the shapes right.
One, two, three perfectly formed ice bugs fly over to him, landing on his outstretched arm.
Your arm drops, exhausted from the task, the bugs vanish.
“Sleep,” he says, and to your embarrassment, you do so almost instantly.
-x-
You do not tell her - or anyone for that matter - but Hinata is the reason you agree to peace talks with the Daimyō of the Land of Fire.
It’s hard to rule a country of thousands, even more so when your heart belongs to only a few.
Would you throw it all way if it meant foregoing to fight her?
Would she even have to fight?
There’s too much to think about there.
But you suspect you’re not the only one who thinks like you.
Not when it becomes clear that the friendship between Naruto and the Kazekage is the main reason for the alliance between the Land of Fire and the Land of Wind.
I wish to stay, you write your Sensei, your words encoded, I have never felt like this before.
Love, and friendship do not care about distance, he writes back and you wonder how he already knows, long before you’ve admitted it to yourself.
“I will have to return soon,” you tell Shino after meeting with a few of the Kage’s, knowing the others are on their way to meet you.
Now that the Land of Sound is great again, a threat to the new Peace, everyone wants to settle their debts with you.
You’ve heard the rumors, mainly because Naruto cannot keep his mouth shut, about you. How you’re strong enough to be the Otokage but refused the Position - which is true - or how you only speak when asked - a blatant lie.
He nods, hands hidden in his sleeves where you cannot grasp them.
You’re out in public, the perfect picture of obedience, him traveling two feet behind you.
Hinata’s out with Naruto and you’re supposed to meet her somewhere, trusting Shino that he will lead you however he decides to do it.
“I’d like for you to accompany me.”
You can feel his eyes on you, curious this time. Sometimes they’re worried, sometimes they’re stern - when you refuse another helping of food or fight against Sakura’s advice - and sometimes, though still rarely, they’re warm, like sunlight falling on snow.
-
“I want to ask,” Naruto’s rubbing his nose, a clear indicator that he’s anxious, “If you’d do me a favor.”
“I won’t if you don’t cut to the chase.”
“Oh, ha, well…” he clears his throat, “I want to propose to Hinata. Ask her to marry me. And well… I want it to be special. Like nothing she’s seen before.”
“If you need money…”
“NO!” He pulls back as Shino steps forward, always on Guard. “No, no, not like that. It’s the beginning of early summer, but you probably know that Hinata loves Winter. I know you use Ice in your Jutsu, like Haku, I just… I thought maybe you could make it snow.”
“Ah,” you nod, understanding. “Winter in June, I get it. Yes, that can be arranged.”
“It can?”
“Of course, who do you think me for? But you’ve asked her father, right?”
“Of course!” He blushes right after. “He wasn’t too happy, but I suppose he never is.”
-
Is it surprising that Shino’s your shadow as you climb the Hokage Rock, the sight before you the village you used to despise? Not really.
His presence is as dear to you as Hinata’s, warm and reassuring when warmth used to be your enemy.
“I decided,” he tells you as you watch the sun rise, “I will come with you. Though my father insists to have me back after three months at the least.”
You grasp for his hand and it’s not hidden, warm skin against your cold.
Today might mark the happiest day - yet - for Hinata, but you suppose you can share that sentiment. You’re friends, after all.
-x-
Shino’s two feet behind you, shadow looming over you as you step into the gorge that marks the entry to Otogakure.
The sound of your footsteps, your breathing, the beating of your hearts reverberates around you until there is no more place for thought inside your bodies, until you only exist to hear.
You’ve missed it and loath it at the same time, the absence of Silence you’ve become used to.
Shino pulls you back, presses his chest against your back. You suppose he must struggle with it, the omnipresence of Sound. Everyone does when they come here. You either learn to live with it or you lose your mind.
You know that speech would only increase the problem, so you gesture to make yourself known. Lastly, you lean in, press your lips against the shell of his ears.
It’s nothing but a short lived remedy, more of a bold statement than a means to help.
But he is here with you, a living, breathing statement that someone chose you too.
-
You don’t want to say it, barely dare to think it, but he fits in.
Otonin are quiet, most of the time, every sound already increased tenfold by nature. They choose their words wisely, step quietly, breathe almost soundlessly.
Maybe that’s why you couldn’t help but be attracted to him.
Or maybe it’s the fire in his veins, the warmth he exudes when he pulls you in at night.
He’s got a separate room though you don’t know when he used it last.
.
But rumors travel even when no words are exchanged.
Some servants already call him the Lord and more than once you’ve witnessed Shinobi bow to him in respect as well.
It’s still hard to believe that their obedience is willing, that they’re not following you out of fear as they did with your father.
It gives you hope for the future.
Maybe, when the snow melts, there’s more to life than death.
-
“I need to leave,” Shino announces one morning over breakfast, a scroll next to his plate.
“When?” You ask, the tea suddenly leaving a shallow taste in your mouth, “For how long?”
“As soon as possible,” he offers you the scroll, “My father is in urgent need of my assistance. I cannot say how long it will take me.”
“Of course,” you manage to say, your mind swirling, a shiver settling in your bones. Have the rooms turned cold all of a sudden or is that something else, growing inside you?
“I will return,” he promises, conviction clear in his voice.
“Of course,” you reply almost mechanically, “And there’s Hinata’s wedding too.”
.
He’s gone within the same day, taking spring with him and summer too.
And it’s only now that he’s missing that you feel both their absences at once.
You wonder how Hinata’s feeling, if she even remembers you.
All her letters suddenly feel like they’re taunting you, reminding you of how much space there is between the two of you.
-
“It’s not unusual for the Daimyō to live outside of their hidden village,” Hitoshi offers when he visits, used to giving you advice from the day you could formulate a question. Maybe he did it even before that.
“In the same country, Sensei,” you remind him, still unable to call him Otokage as you should. Without him, you’d have no one here to trust even though he tries to make you believe something different.
“I heard the Kazekage is building a train from their Hidden Village to Village Hidden in the Leaves. Cutting the traveling time short.”
“It’s not the same.”
“No, dear, but it’s a start.” And he ushers you to your desk, all things already prepared.
If not for him, you might have lost your mind. Maybe you did. Maybe these projects are just signs of you losing what you never had.
Maybe you’re just a lovesick fool, all hope already lost.
.
I am thinking of you, always.
His letters are consistent, strong in their conviction, though not nearly as soothing to your heart as his presence would be.
When did you turn weak like this, brought to your knees by the absence of another?
You don’t doubt the servants are already talking about it.
How the Lady’s face has lost her glow in the absence of her lover.
You want to snarl at them but don’t. You’re not your father.
-
“I am the Daimyō of the Land of Sound,” you declare at the gate, though unnecessary. Your clothes scream of your wealth.
You will not dare to wear anything but the best to Hinata’s wedding.
“Welcome back,” the Guards greet you, their faces friendly.
The Gate no longer feels like it’s mocking you. Today it’s calling you home.
.
Is there a greater joy than to hug Hinata? Wrap your arms around her after months of missing her dearly, feel her heart beat strong, her breath com even?
“It’s so good to have you back.”
And for a few days, it’s like it used to be.
Walks in the park, her laughter in your kitchen as she insists on making you bone broth - “You’re not eating enough, I just know it.”
But life changes, all the time.
Shino sits next to you as her father walks her through the crowd, his hand warm in yours despite all the people around you.
If you don’t cry that’s only because the tears freeze to snowflakes in your lashes, little crystals reflecting the ice until Shino wipes them away with a careful fingertip.
He doesn’t talk much, not that he needs to. It’s enough to have him there.
-
“A speech,” the people call out.
Hiashi Hyuuga raises a glass. The Hokage. The Kazekage.
Finally, you raise your glass and the crowd falls silent.
“The only blessing I have for you is that you might stay the way you are. Courageous, believing in others…” You hesitate for a moment, feel a warm hand in the hollow of your knee, the only place where no one can see Shino’s innocent, comforting touch, the reminder that he’s here, too. “A place in the sun.”
You raise your glass a little higher, a sign for the others to drink on the lucky couple.
Snowflakes flutter down like the petals of Cherry Blossoms and with the burning red and gold of the autumnal forests behind you, it looks almost like the snow is falling on fire.
But it doesn’t melt.
And if that doesn’t give you hope, you don’t know what will.
.
One week later, just shy of your planned departure, Shino walks you through the forest behind his home, where sound is something so unfamiliar you can feel the Silence settle in your bones.
“I can never fully move to Otogakure,” he explains quietly, “Why? I am next in Line as the Head of the Aburame. I have to be home frequently.”
“I can never fully move to Konoha,” you offer just as softly, heartbreaking at the truth, “My country needs me, if not all the time then at least constantly.”
His hand is warm around yours, bugs tickling as they move from his skin to yours, crawling up and down until they form a slim, black, living ring around your finger.
“Before Konoha, the Aburame used to be nomads, traveling with the seasons, their life as hosts the most important thing. If you’re willing, I’d be open to a revival of this… in a different sense.”
A single tear escapes your eye, warm on your skin.
If you needed any reminder that he’s capable of melting your heart, you have it now.
Unable to form words you lift your joined hands and press your lips to his ringfinger, forming a ring of ice around it with your breathe.
Maybe later, when your hearts have settled, you will think about something permanent.
But, as Hitoshi would say, Love does not care about these things.
Love sees beyond.
My Kofi if you want to tip me

Rising sun
Shino x f!reader
🔞minors DNI🔞
Warnings: ⚠️familial issues/abuse⚠️ angst, SMUT, kinky slight dom Shino, swearing, violence
Summary: (this man is almost 6ft tall and I still FIRMLY believe Shino is a VERY kinky man. Prove me wrong)
Reader is struck upon for using a forbidden jutsu during a mission. Her father retaliates as they play only by the book and threatens to strip her of her shinobi status. Shino has ideas on how to distract her
The pulsating pain against my cheek as my head reels to the side, is a realization that I’ve just been struck upon in my fathers blind rage. I can only manage in my own fit of fury, to place my own hand above the quickly rising marks. If it were a nicer day, it would make me think of when we just finished pouring the foundation of our house, how I placed my much smaller hand inside the imprint he had just made with his own. The same prints I had just fallen upon from the sheer force I was knocked back with,” forbidden jutsu is to not be used so long as you are still my child.”
A kick to the stomach. If we didn’t live the life of shinobi, most would consider this abuse, to us, it’s only another lesson…. No matter how uncalled for.
“It was to save a teammates life! Don’t tell me you wouldn’t have done the same thing.” I spit in his direction, grasping at my ribs and trying to roll over to stand.
“Not if it would cost me my own life or my dignity that comes with using something forbidden. Your chakra is still depleted. Get up.” He replies with no emotion. After several seconds of trying, I knew he was right. My chakra was shot.
He lands one more kick as I reach for anything to pick myself up with,” come back inside when you’re ready to be a real shinobi.”
“Fuck you.” I cough out, finally managing to roll to my back and wheeze air back in to my lungs.
“Or don’t come back at all. You have siblings with the same kekkei genkai. You are replaceable.” His last words echo as the stars finally dissipate from my eyes. He couldn’t truly mean that, he’s just drunk. He had to be.
I could only ponder and force myself to believe my father was drunk as I slowly mosey to town, the forest, anywhere but here. I ignored the fact the smell of alcohol wasn’t present, maybe my senses are just off. Maybe I’d gone noseblind in a time of panic. The treeline was welcoming, silent enough to rest and gain my composure, maybe pass out from lack of chakra and a beating. I’d welcome passing out at this point, I could use the nap. The spots quickly return to my vision as my body sways,” yeah, this looks like a nice spot for a nap.”
And with that, my body buckles, swaying as gracefully as a sack of bricks to the ground.
The last conscious thing I register is a voice calling from the treetops,” Y/N, I got you.”
Coming to was almost worse than passing out, my body aches and my head isn’t fully on the ground. My body is covered in a blanket… no. A jacket. It carried the faint smell of pollen and fresh morning dew. I knew the jacket and the scent to well, as the owner of the jacket had no smell, unless the flowers were blossoming. As soon as my head turns to look up, he becomes still as the doldrums at sea.
“Shino.” I mutter, seeing the eyes behind his glasses turn down to meet mine,” Y/N.”
He exhales sharply, trying his best to not move his legs that lay under my head as a makeshift pillow.
“How long have i been out?” I mumble, reaching down to burrow further in to his green over coat and hope it engulfs my embarrassment.
“Only a few hours. What happened? You look worse than when I left after the mission.” He replies, picking a cool hand up from his side to rest against my now tender and swollen cheek. I sigh, leaning in to a usually gentle touch that now stung like a bee against the side of my face,” chakra was depleted too much. As a result, I ran in to my fathers hand.”
Shino’s hand twitches against my face as his body becomes taut.
“Word reached him that I used the forbidden jutsu before I had a chance to say it myself. Doesn’t matter if it was to save a teammate, what matters to him is that I used something forbidden.” I continue, lifting a hand to rest against his that lay on my face. He instinctively threads his fingers between mine, the closeness to Shino I’ve always craved only comes in times of pity. But I still find myself clutching to it like a newborn puppy to their mom.
“I don’t see why you haven’t just come to stay at the Aburame compound. The offer has been extended multiple times.” Shino mentions his offer once again.
“Im an adult now, I should just get my own place.” I mutter, squeezing his hand before pulling it down to rest against my chest knowing both of our arms were tiring. He only answers with placing his other hand at the top of my head, weaving his free fingers through the roots of my hair and tugging slightly. The sensation sends a jolt, awakening my senses and my body.
“Get a place in your family compound so you’re still stuck with your father. Great idea, Y/N.” He monotonously shoots back before continuing,” for saving my life with a strong forbidden jutsu… you sure are clueless in anything else.”
“I wouldn’t call it clueless. He was just drunk. I’ll go back home after dark and everything will be fine.” I defend, knowing it might not be, but at least my chakra has time to build and I have time to create a bluff for Shino. Shino drops his hand, pulling the other away,” I’ll walk you back then.”
The walk is silent, save for Shino’s long jacket flapping around my much smaller frame in the wind. His right arm drapes over me to shield the wind away. Being touch starved, my knees threaten to buckle at the multiple signs of affection tonight. It had almost gotten me to forget the quickly bruising areas on my body until a sharp pain blooms in my ribs. I hunch forward, regaining my breath from my bodies surprise attack. Shino stops walking abruptly to turn us towards each other and immediately pulls the zipper of my vest down, followed by lifting my shirt and exposing my lower midriff. Shino shakes his head and grumbles,” I knew it.”
With no further word, he scoops me up as I’m still frozen, processing he has just lifted my shirt, and going even more senseless as my upper half comes to a rest against his heaving in anger chest. His steps quicken, becoming more pronounced as he stalks closer to my house.
“Shino, slow down. I’m fine.” I plead quietly, tugging at his own leaf issued chunin vest. His face is hard as stone, refusing to give any reply until we reach the gates,” give me my jacket and stay behind me.”
“Stop it. We don’t need to start a fight at this time of night.” I murmer, yet still shrug his jacket off and watch as his arms flex to put it back on. He pushes the gate open furiously and stalks to our house that sat dead center of the compound. I dig my heels in to the dirt and tug at the back of his jacket upon seeing a figure hunched over on our porch,” I’ll just go stay at your house. There’s a jug of sake next to him. He’s drunk Shino.”
It was too late, I can barely see around Shino’s frame as my father tilts his head and sets his gaze upon the man that shields me,” the hell does an Aburame want at this time of night. Shouldn’t you be sleeping in your cave or something?”
“I was actually coming to talk to you.” Shino puffs out, the tell tale sign of half a smile frightens me. He was confident, he was ready for a fight.
“He was just dropping me off, was all.” I bluff, stepping out from behind him and being held back from walking any closer.
“Bold of you to come home with a man this late. Did you not learn earlier?” He raises his voice, stalking closer to me as Shino tries pulling me back once again. I manage to dodge the first drunken swing at my already bruised ribs but the second connects just before Shino finally succeeds to pull me forcefully to the side, grasping on to the next drunken fist and stopping it dead in the air. Shinobi are scary enough sober. But when the sake hits our veins, we become almost invincible in our own mind… scary even. For the third time tonight, the wind knocks from my lungs as I hit the ground.
“Damn these men.” I mutter, rocking back on impact and launching myself forward on to my feet, trying to charge in to the altercation. I brace myself as my father signs with one hand in an attempt to knock me back with a wind release jutsu. The wind whips around the three of us as Shino reels an arm back, and sending it flying tactfully against his opponents temple. I cringe at the sight of my dad folding in on himself and dropping to the ground, already snoring. Shino is expressionless and doesn’t move as I stomp furiously to the door trying to gather even a single thought. In an attempt to slam it shut, I feel defeated when Shino catches the flimsy door in an instant. Even behind his glasses, his eyes bore in to mine intently, unblinking. He leans against the doorframe, engulfing me with his large stature as he places an arm directly above me,” I don’t give a fuck what’s forbidden to your family, I’ll make you scream my name until even that’s forbidden.” His hands dance just above my hips as the anger rises,” Shino, what the fuck was that?” My hand instinctively shoots upwards for his throat, pinning him against the wall in an uncontrolled fit of rage, but the heat only climbs against my now flushed face at his words catching me off guard. He lets off a soft, barely even audible moan, taking his turn to lunge at me and quickly reverse our roles. My thighs were now wrapped against his torso and tangled in his long jacket as his breaths quicken so close to my throat while his hands pin my shoulders to the wall. I quickly add my other hand to his throat in case he’s gone crazy. He lets a soft chuckle out as I tug at his jacket,” that was me saving your life, would it kill you to at least say thank you before trying to tear my clothes off?”
I feel my cheeks prickle and the anger die in my throat, only to be replaced with embarrassment,
“I-I wasn’t- That’s not-! I don’t know what to do right now. I should check on my dad.” I stutter out, the anger mixing with other, stronger, emotions as I adjust my hands around his throat so I don’t lose my grip. I can feel his jaw muscle clench and vibrate down to his throat. I find my own self impulsively mimicking his muscle twitch with my thighs, half bucking against him. A smirk once again creeps to his face before swooping in to hover his lips above the side of my ear,” Calm down. I’m only looking out for my teammate. Your father will be fine. I could’ve done much worse.”
The gentle wind against my ear as he enticingly whispers makes my eyes unfocus and my body slacken until he pulls his head back as far as my arms will reach. My hands then move on their own, leaving a playful tug at his throat before trailing to the collar of his jacket and gripping tight. He nods his head, encouraging me until sense washes back in to my body,” good girl.”
Good girl. Those two words would drive almost anyone insane. And after a while of not receiving praise, it could’ve drove me feral. It did. And I could tell Shino knew too.
“S-Shino. Please say it again.” I blush, slowly droning my hands inwards and pulling him closer to me.
“Say what again?” He questions, sliding his hands from my shoulders, causing me to slightly fall forward in to him, as his hands rake slowly down my body and settle underneath my ass to balance me back against the wall.
“I think you know.” I hint, batting my eyelashes slowly and resting my thumb against his pouty lower lip, rubbing it side to side until he playfully takes it in to his mouth with a quick circular motion of his tongue and a soft nip from his teeth. I bite hard in to my own lip to catch the gasp in my throat. Catching on with satisfaction, he hums around my thumb,” take my glasses off. I want to look at you with my own eyes.”
Another jolt shocks my body to life, unfurling my balled up fist and my other hand from his mouth to de-shade him. His eyes adjust to the darkness around us fairly easily, and they shimmer with multiple emotions. It’s crazy the eyes are what give us away. All our emotions, our lust and want. They trail patiently, almost lazily from my eyes to my lips, my lower one still caught between my teeth. I’m so lost in the sight of his eyes that I don’t notice his movements. He lifts a knee to maneuver one of his hands upwards, grasping against my jaw and hovering his lips just above mine,” good girl.”
I sharply inhale as my head tilts forward in an attempt to connect our lips. I’m denied with a soft tug back at my jaw and a mischievous smile. His head dips down to my neck making my heart race and stomach flip. I was expecting a kiss, but instead receive his tongue tracing where he would sink his teeth in to soon after. My bottom lip curls back under my teeth, but the moan still escapes. I pull away slightly, pushing a hand against his chest,” what if my dad wakes up?”
“He won’t.” Shino huffs against my neck while tugging at my jaw once again, finally bringing our lips in to a lazy, drawn out kiss. One kiss becomes two. Three, then four. I’ve lost count how many times the presence of his lips graced my needy ones. His teeth draw in my lower lip, nipping slightly and letting go to catch a breath. My tongue acts on its own accord, darting in to find his. Shino doesn’t bother to hide his moan, only readjusting the hand that holds me up as my thighs grip around his torso tighter. My fingers wrestle away his hood, then tear away his forehead protector, releasing his quickly growing hair to tug to my hearts content. He groans at the sudden pull, bucking us both back in to the wall we’ve drifted from.
“We should move this somewhere else.” I huff while pulling away for another breath of air and trying to wrestle his jacket off for real this time. Shino nods, falling backwards and over the back of the couch behind us effortlessly. I find myself on top, straddling a smirking Shino. I smile, finally able to tear away his vest and jacket in a sloppy and haphazard manner before I wrestle at his tight training shirt. My hands quiver with giddiness as his tightened skin flexes under my fingers in an effort to help. When I barely manage to coax the compression shirt to his shoulders, he grasps both of my hands in one of his and finishes his shirt off, exposing his upper half. Shino leans up to a sitting position and uses his free hand to pull me down further by the nape of my neck, tugging at my now tousled hair to hungrily guide our lips together once again. I feel my hands being released, followed by my vest being tugged at and shedded away. He’s gentle while lifting my shirt over the sickening bruises, his tender fingers ghosting over the lightning strikes of purple and disconnecting our lips to throw my shirt away. My aching core reignites at every twitch I feel against my pelvis from down below.
“Fuck this.” I mutter, sliding down to grapple with the knot holding his pants at his waist. He arches slightly at the intimate touch of my hands dragging his pants downwards, then reaching up to drone lazy circles around his rising bulge.
“I never got to properly thank you, Shino.” I whisper, slowly sinking my head downwards to place a kiss on his still clothed member. He twitches slightly and his hand once again feeds its way in to my hair as I place intentionally sloppy kisses on his hips while shrugging down his boxers.
“That’s oka-“ Shino begins to talk before being cut off with his own moan at the feeling of my lips wrapping around the tip of his cock. His hand clenches deep at my roots and tries to follow the quickly erratic pace of my head. His hips soon follow, becoming a sloppy and unreadable pace until he pumps fully in to my mouth, causing me to slightly gag when I’m held there for a few seconds as he squirms beneath me. When he can’t handle the feeling anymore, I’m being thrown backwards to the other side of the couch and my pants have been effortlessly wrestled off during the process. All while I’m still trying to force myself to breathe air again. The circles being rubbed in to my thighs distract any sense I have, his head burying between my thighs going unnoticed at first. I can’t help but gasp, clawing up his back at the wet pressure kneading slowly at my clit. One finger slips in, shockingly cold against my rising body temperature. My hips try to move, but his other hand holds me down forcibly, making the pleasure even greater. I can feel him smirk against me, followed by a quick flick of his tongue to send me over the edge. My scream silences against the quick grasp at my throat from Shinoto aid him in sitting up,” if anyone ever lays their hands on you again, it better be me.”
“B-but we’re shinobi.” I stutter out as he crashes himself inside of me, pushing further and further until I squirm.
“Even in war, I’d go out of my way to be the last man to ever have his hands on you.” He grunts, thrusting quickly again and stopping. He holds inside of me for a few more seconds,” I wouldn’t just fight for you. I’d kill for you.”
Sex was an odd time for a love confession, but I wasn’t complaining. My thoughts were filled by the building pressure coming to a climax and focusing on not passing out from pleasure. The old couch was as close to breaking as my limit was. I grasp at his hand around my throat as the splotches of ecstasy bubble and obscure my vision like an old time cartoon,” Sh-Shino. Please, Fuck!”
“Y/N, shit.” Shino growls, pumping even sloppier and rougher than before. My head tilts back, brain shutting off and a scream of pleasure threatening to ring off. His hands clamp over my agape mouth, stifling what could’ve been an ear shattering, and dad waking shriek. The convulsion starts in my legs, ecstasy causing me to shake like a leaf in the wind and it was only building with every motion Shino made. With one last slam in to me with all his might, I see he’s reached his limit too. After several seconds, maybe even minutes of catching our breath, it’s a game of who will look at the other first. The walls and floor around us had suddenly become interesting, even though he was hovering directly above me. Shino takes a shaky breath, wiping away beads of sweat that threaten to spill from his forehead. I find myself fanning at my flushed face and finally looking in to his uncovered and nervous eyes,” was that… too far?”
“No. Was it too far for you?” He huffs out between gasps.
“N-no. I should probably go to bed… and you should get home. It’s getting pretty late.” I stumble out, trying to avoid the awkward after first time sex talking while fumbling around to put some clothes on and lay back down.
He hovers above me once again, then slides down, and I’m almost worried I may have to go for a round two. But he stops at my bruised ribs peeking out from my wrinkled shirt, kissing softly at the damaged skin,” I’ll leave if you come with me.”
I ponder the challenge, knowing I definitely didn’t want to be home when my father regained consciousness, let alone having the man who knocked him senseless in the house. I nervously card my fingers through Shino’s hair and wait for his eyes to look towards me,” please?”
“Okay.” I mumble, quickly tiring with fatigue. My eyelids become heavy with the weight of todays events, I could sleep for days. I feel Shino’s weight disappear and I can’t help but twist to my side and curl in on myself like a cat taking a mid day snooze in the sun. As I drift off in to the waves of sleep, I feel an arm sliding below my head and the other under my torso.
The birds were singing jovially from the open window that let in a soft breeze. The side of my face pounded with my heart at the rising anxiety. Birds never sang at our compound, not for years. I turn to the unfamiliar landscape around me, seeing it was almost like a terrarium, the massive windows lining two of the walls looking out to the countryside of the hidden leaf just before sunrise. The nightstand held my neatly folded vest and a single lily that stood proud in a vase with a beetle crawling zigzags on its outstretched leaf. The pack I usually use for missions rests on the floor, stuffed full with my clothes. In my weak attempt to stand, an arm darts lazily around my waist to pull me back against a comforting heat,” We rise with the sun here, Y/N.”
I trace his arm downwards to find his hand resting against my hip and entwine our fingers together. I force my eyes to close once again to break my family’s brutish habits, and as long as the sun droned lazily against the horizon we were both safe in each others embrace. Shino’s chest rises and falls in a melodic rhythm, coaxing me back to a sleepy serenity I could get used to feeling. All worries washed away with the excitement and anticipation of sleeping in and rising with the sun.

Home for the Holidays
This is for the Hidden Shinobi Hideout Holiday exchange! <3 My gift goes to @kankuroplease!! I was soo lucky to draw my dear dear friend. Merry Christmas!
Dearest C. I'm so happy I had you for this end of year exchange so i can give you one last gift before the year ends! I am so very fortunate that you decided to conatct me in March and work with me, when I was until then just a big fan from afar. I used to be so intimidated by you and so scared to even send you messages even after we started collaborating. It is weird that I thought you are too proud to talk to most people and that I would just be abother, when in reality you really just want to be nerdy with other people. I had so much fun with you this year, when we were 3 and now that we are only 2 still. I am so proud to have you as a friend, so thankful to be able to rant to you for whatever I want to rant about, for every little drawing you've made for me during this year, for your company and support. I wish you a great Christmas Day today and hope we continue this friendship into the next year (and beyond!) Cant wait for our art collab and whatever we cook up together next. I love you, sending you many hugs. Thank you for being in my life.

Back from her world travels in Japan Katsura runs into an old friend she hasn't seen in a while.
When Katsura opened the door and the little jingle went off to alert the members inside of another visitor, she couldn’t help but sigh at the wave of nostalgia radiating from the view of what was inside. The tattoo parlour looked exactly the way she had last seen it, down to the black and red leather interior. This felt more like coming home than stepping foot into Konoha had.
What was different, however, was how empty it was. There was nothing of the usual hustle that came with clients, usually yakuza members, entering and leaving the parlour, demanding this tattoo or that. Katsura hadn’t been here often while she still lived in this part of the city, but often enough to get used to it.
Now there was only Sai sitting at his usual place, deeply focused on cleaning his usual work tools. Katsura didn’t know much about him, not beyond what Sakura had told her. Sai hadn’t gone to school with them and since she had mainly been travelling since graduation, she had never really met him except for in passing.
Most of the year Katsura found herself in the hot and humid climate of the south american rainforest or in the dry, cold and stormy mountains in north america. Sometimes she hiked through thick dark forests in central Europe and then, on occasion, she was also back in Asia like right now. And when she was in Asia, she often took at least one detour to Japan, until it took her to another continent again. Someone had to check up on her sister sometime, especially since she was living in such a dangerous territory.
“Hi,” Katsura said and stepped next to Sai. “Uh- ‘s Sakura around?”
Sai looked up and closed his eyes to a smile. “In the back,” he pointed to the door at the back of the studio. “But I would not go there right now.”
She considered this. On one hand the very limited things she knew about Sai told her that he was not going to lie about stuff like that. Sakura had said several times over the phone that the Sai was almost too brutally honest for his own good. If he wasn’t under Yamato’s and by extension Kakashi’s protection it could have landed him in a hotbed several times before. On the other hand Sakura had asked Katsura to come round at this exact time and might just be in the back getting ready to go out.
It was worth trying it out, she decided and nodded to Sai: “I’ll check anyway.” The other just shrugged his shoulders and went back to cleaning his tools.
The door to the backroom was only leaning and Katsura could easily push it open with a few fingers. She heard things before she saw them. The low hums and moans, the sucking noise that reminded her of a vacuum cleaner, the whispered words. Right then her fight or flight reflex kicked in and her brain violently went forward and back between just turning around or seeing what was going on.
If only the flight reflex had won. If only. Instead, she felt compelled to check. Katsura pushed the door open just a little more, a few more inches so she could look easier through it and then let out a gasp at the image in front of her eyes. Sakura was there indeed, sandwiched in the middle of what seemed to be Sasuke and Naruto. One had his head buried in her neck and one at her throat on the front.
The gasp had been louder than she had intended to and Sakura’s eyes flew open and to the door, but Katsura had already turned on her heel. “I told you,” Sai said calmly as she ran by, but she didn’t feel it dignified an answer.
She was angry, flying with rage and shame. Sakura had been her friend since childhood, for years! She had told Katsura to come by at this time so they could play catchup, and then decided to engage in such things with those guys. Naruto especially always gave Katsura this ick that she could not explain. He was too excited for his own good, too oblivious at the world around him, naive to a fault.
Uh, she should have known that these people knew no shame. When she was young, Katsura had stayed away from this parlour which was then owned by Naruto’s parents. They had already been notorious for the shady stuff that was going on there, so of course the new owner just let this business continue. It was also no surprise to her that the employees would be doing such disgusting things at the workplace, since they lacked any structure.
What was it with people and their excessive need to be horny all the time anyway? She had travelled all over the world and never met anyone that she felt incredibly drawn toward. Men could be handsome and women could be beautiful, but nobody was “I wish I could undress this person in a public place”- handsome or beautiful.
She stomped out of the store and back into the snow that lay heavy and thick in front of it. It was cold here in Konoha, way too cold for her that had just returned from South America without an adequate winter jacket. But in her defence, she did think that she was just meeting a friend for a lunch date and that would most likely happen inside. She didn’t think that she would have to spend so much time outside.
Distracted by her own anger she saw the wall only when her head was already crashing into it. A big, grey wall that had appeared right in the middle of the sidewalk. Katsura stumbled backward and then found herself steadied by an arm before her feet could slip on the ice.
“I’m sorry, you seem to have crashed into me,” a male voice said in a low timber and Katsura looked up to realise the wall was not a wall at all, but just a very tall human man in a grey long coat. She hummed and then went back onto her feet with a mumbled thank you.
It took her a moment to recognise him, or better said, she only recognised him when she followed his chin up to the sunglasses on his nose. There was only one person she’d ever known who wore sunglasses inside the house. Well, two, him and his father.
“Oh – It is you Shino,” she said and put her head on her neck to look up to him. Had he always been this incredibly tall? He seemed twice her height.
She couldn’t see his eyes moving underneath his shades but she imagined them narrowing as he scanned the length of her. “Katsura.” He said it like he had just decided on that name for her. Then: “Nice to see that you are back.”
Katsura waved with her hand. Shino and her had always had a very peculiar relationship. They had both been obsessed with bugs since they were kids, cataloguing and analysing them and hunting and freeing them and most of all defending them from annoying bug-haters. But he had slighted her as a kid, which she had never really forgiven him, no matter how nice he had turned out to be later.
“I was in Brazil”, she said. “Got myself a tan and a new tropical ladybug species.” She grinned. She couldn’t help but brag.
He let out a low chuckle, which took her completely by surprise. “I’ve seen your pictures on social media. Congratulations, that was a great find.”
Despite the cold her cheeks warmed. “T-Thanks.” She didn’t know what else to say.
“I’ve become an Entomologist too, but I specialise in Greater Japan or rather this area. Preservation rather than exploration.” A smile appeared on his face. “Though I can’t help but be a little jealous. That butterfly you found in the Rocky Mountains? Outstanding grey colours.”
Katsura huffed and shook her head. “Oh, I’m sure what you do is great too. Though - that butterfly really was incredibly interesting. Did you know it can survive even at lower altitudes?”
“I do now.” Shino put his hands in his pocket. She watched as she waved her arms to explain to him how this species specifically had adjusted so well to its surroundings and how it was- in fact - masterful in what it did.
After a while her hands felt so cold that she shuddered, which did not escape his keen eyes, sunglasses or not. “I would love to hear more,” he said softly, “but maybe we should go inside. What do you think about going to a cafe?”
Caught off guard a little she stammered: “Uh- Uh, I had- a thing…” but then she remembered what Sakura was doing right now instead of their meeting and her eyes hardened for a moment. “Sure, I’d love to. I have all the time in the world.”
-
Shino picked a cafe at the very border of Uchiha territory, just a street down the Hyuuga were ruling the underworld. It was run by a local that Katsura did not know and was cosy enough to feel warm and homely even on a snowy, cold day like this.
“Wow, what a lucky pick!” she said as she sat down in the big red seats. “A place like this is a real find.”
He took his coat off. “Yes, it is beautiful. I thought it would be perfect.”
Well any cafe would have been perfect really, she thought but didn’t say anything.
Instead, she ordered a triple latte coffee because she really needed it after the day she’d had so far and all the jetlag still kind of pulled her underwater. Then she folded her fingers in front of her face and said: “Now, tell me about your job. What is your education? Did you go to University? What bugs are you raising?”
Shino smiled again at her barrage of questions and then he did something she had almost never seen him do: He took his sunglasses off.
This felt like that one time she had seen Kakashi-san without his surgical mask. This revelation that this part of Shino’s body actually existed and that the shades were not a permanent fixture on his face. Just that this time it felt a hundred times more incredible then when she had seen Kakashi.
His eyes were this deep, chocolate kind of brown, almost too incredible brown to be real. The light of the candle on the table was reflected in them like a mirage of light and Katsura had to immediately think of the million fireflies she had once seen on a tour in China. He was handsome with his hair combed back, the kind smile on his face and the shining eyes.
“Is everything alright?” he asked and put his head to the side a little.
Katsura realised her mouth was hanging a little open and closed it quickly. “Yes, sorry..” She didn’t know what got into her. It took her more willpower than she wanted to admit to pull away from his face and remember what questions she had asked him. “So…”
“Right, about my education and work.” He smiled a little to himself, tipping lightly against the porcelain cup in front of him. “I am mostly working locally. We are growing some nearly extinct stag beetle species on our family compound, but so far the amount is still too little for them to be released into the wild…”
His low, calm voice and interesting topic of conversation lulled her a little, especially now that she felt warm and safe. While she was still intently listening, she wondered if he had always been this handsome or if he had just grown up to be. Shino had always been a person she had wanted to be close with, because his family was known to be specialists in insects, but for one reason or another it had never worked out. Mostly because he had slighted her as a kid and she could not forgive.
Turns out Shino did go to university and he had come out with a degree. This was not usual, especially not in their little, yakuza infested city. People often took up a trade that needed no education or straight up did crime. Katsura herself, as she told Shino as soon as he had finished telling his story, had left Konoha without any degree and just started travelling the world on her own merits. Working to earn money locally and then moving on. This way she had seen much more than she had ever planned.
“I’ve always wanted to go.” Shino said with a sigh. “It is incredible to work here where I am from and get to know more and more corners and such. But when I hear your stories it makes me feel like I want to get out more.”
Katsura took a sip of her coffee: “You could always join me on the next expedition.”
He smiled and she almost choked on her coffee accidentally. “I would love to go,” he said calmly. “But I don’t think it's possible.”
-
They had two more cups of coffee, way too much coffee if one was honest, and then Shino paid -for both of them. The weirdly intimate gesture had Katsura blush and when he held the door open so she could leave before him into the dark evening, she suddenly wondered if this entire thing had been something like a date.
“I can walk you home still, if you want,” Shino offered and closed the zipper of his long coat. The shades were hiding his eyes again.
Katsura had never had a date before. Katsura had not even thought about dating before this But now Shino had invited her for coffee, he had brought her to a cosy place and asked her whereabouts and now he was trying to walk her home? That sure sounded like the end of a date.
She panicked. “Not necessary, I can find my way.” Her eyes avoided his face as much as they could while looking too suspicious. “T-Thanks for the coffee. Maybe I’ll see you around before I leave again.”
“Yes, hopefully,” she heard Shino say from behind as she was already walking away sternly, her heart hamming loud against her chest.
-
Katsura walked back to her sister's apartment. For a moment she had wondered if she should go back and check the tattoo shop again, to see if Sakura had repented from letting her friend down in such a way as she had, but then Katsura decided against it.
Aori also lived right at the border between Uchiha and Hyuuga district and worked on both sides of the metaphorical fence. Katsura felt like her hands were falling off from the cold as she entered the hallway and turned the key to get inside. Though she was rarely at home, Aori had obviously provided her with her own key anyway. More symbolic than practical.
There was noise coming from the kitchen. The slightly messy, stumbling steps of her sister were mixed up with the low, but always so incredibly loud voice of her boyfriend Might Gai, who, to Katsura’s endless misery, was around most of the evenings now.
It was not like Katsura hated Gai, he was connected enough to keep her sister safe enough and he was kind, and good to her, but his never relenting energy was a drag that Katsura was glad to flee from 96% of the year.
“Hello, young lady!” he waved at her as if she was a street away and not just standing right in front of him. “How was your meeting with your precious friend?”
Katsura let herself fall onto the tatami floor and put her feet under a blanket to warm them up. “She was busy,” she said shortly. “So I met with another old classmate of mine instead.”
She took a mini muffin from the table in front of her. Other than bugs, Katsura loved baking and since Aori could do a lot, but not that, she had spent the morning making muffins for all of them. Yes, even for Gai.
“Wonderful!” Gai let out. “It is great that you are still connected to all the people here. It is important to never forget your youth!”
Aori must have caught Katsura’s frown, because she interjected: “Which friend?”
“Aburame Shino.” Katsura bit into yet another muffin, most definitely spoiling her stomach for dinner, especially after the cakes she had had at the cafe.
“Oh, he is so nice.” Aori put her fingers together. “In summer he sometimes comes to the kindergarten I work at and instructs the children about fireflies and the like. He is really good at that. Very forthcoming and friendly…”
“And he looks quite good too..” Katsura mumbled.
“What?”
Katsura shook herself. “Nothing.”
Gai unfortunately apparently had ears like a bat and so he said: “I think Katsura just commented on the way young Shino has grown up quite handsome indeed.”
“Ah, really, Katsura?” Her sister couldn’t help but grin.
Katsura wasn’t going to take a lecture from Mrs has-a-crush-on-weird-guys so she shoved a few of her own made muffins into the pockets of her hoodie and got up with a “I’m not hungry right now.”
Aori yelled after her that they’d leave the stuff for her on the stove so she could eat later, but Katsura had already disappeared in the room that was currently her bedroom.
-
At night she dreamed about Shino, which was a bother.
In her dream, Shino took his sunglasses off again to look at her with the chocolate creamy eyes of his to ask her if he could accompany her on her travels. The her that was in the dream had blushed harder than Aori did when Gai gave her a compliment and had accepted with a loud stutter. Both things that were very unlike Katsura in many ways and when she woke up she was annoyed at herself.
Additionally, there were about 40 text messages from Sakura on her phone when she rolled over and picked it up. At least 30 “I’m sorry-s” and then 8 more messages asking Katsura for a new meetup time. The last two contained “I will just come by Aori-nee’s house in the morning before my shift” and then the last “I’ll be there at 10.”
Katsura looked at the clock on her phone. It was 9.50.
She peeled herself out of bed and took the quickest shower known to man to be ready on the couch with the tv running when the door opened and Sakura walked in. Her friend looked a little distressed.
“I’m so sorry!” Sakura said before she even said hello and threw herself down next to Katsura. “You know that feeling, when you think you can remember something without writing it down, but then you don’t remember? Well, that is not an excuse, but it is an explanation and I want you to know how deeply sorry I am.”
That had been about the gist of the 30 text messages too. Katsura let out a sigh. “It’s alright, I noticed you were - busy.”
When Sakura was shy she blushed like a school girl in a rom com, but when she was embarrassed her whole face turned red, right under the line of her cherry blossom hair. “The guys..” she mumbled, “... can be pretty distracting if there is nothing else to do. Especially when the adults are gone. I’m sure you get it.”
Katsura did not get it. What was so special about Uchiha Sasuke and especially Uzumaki Naruto that made them so irresistible? She had never understood how people in this town seemingly had such hots for each other all the time. She shook her head and then shrugged her shoulders. “I don’t, but it’s ok,”
Of course it was not ok for Sakure, who still looked very worried. “Sai told me only hours after you left. When I yelled at him and wanted to know why he didn’t tell me earlier, he said it was because I didn’t ask about it.” Sakura’s eyes hardened. “I will have to tell on him to Ino.”
“But in the end you were the one who forgot anyway. It’s not his fault.” Katsura raised a brow.
Sakura’s face fell once more. “You said you accept my apology.” She grabbed Katsura’s hand again and looked a little teary eyed.
Feeling like she had teased her old friend enough, Katsura smiled. “I do. I do. Look, you are here now and I see you are sorry. I mean, I ended up having a nice afternoon anyway.”
“Oh with Aori-nee?” Sakura also was smiling again.
“No, not with her. I ran into Shino.”
Sakura’s eyes widened a little. “Oh”, she said and it sounded like there was more weight behind the sound.
“Oh?” Katsura asked.
Her friend blinked and then found her usual friendly and calm facial expression again. “Oh I’m just surprised that it was him you ran into.” She shrugged her shoulders. “Did you do something nice?”
“He asked if I wanted to go to a cafe and we did. It was a tiny place, but very nice. We just talked and - why are you looking like this?” Sakura*s calm smile had somehow turned into a grin.
“It’s just… you know, Shino - his interests are so similar to yours, we always kind of thought you should be…close.” Though Sakura had used much more diplomatic words, Katsura knew instantly what she meant with “close.” “But you just didn’t seem interested like that, which is of course alright. I have to admit though, that sometimes I felt like maybe he was.”
Katsura’s lip curled. Shino’s eyes appeared in her mind again, looking at her over the table, the way he had smiled while she talked, taking everything in with a calm she had never seen of anyone else. Had he possibly brought her there for some sort of date after all?
“Impossible,” she said, more to conclude her thoughts than as a reply.
Sakura shrugged her shoulders again. “I just think you guys would match, so maybe it is kind of wishful thinking on my part.”
“Seems like,” Katsura said, trying not to look into her friends’ face while her heartbeat felt so loud in her ears. “I mean its is like you said, I’m just not that kind of person.”
-
Christmas eve Katsura found herself squished between Aori and Sakura in a karaoke room that seemed way too small for the amount of people inside. In true cross generation fashion, Gai had invited all his friends, mostly Kakashi, his partners and Yamato, while Katsura had invited Sakura, who then had brought Sai, Naruto and Sasuke along. There were too many people in this hot room.
Alcohol had been flowing freely and now Gai, who had one arm wrapped around Aori, was singing passionately, his voice only lightly hitting the right notes. Katsura flinched each time his voice raised a little and wished it could just be Yamato signing again. She did not know the man well, but from the way he behaved and sounded he liked karaoke well enough and was good at it at least to some degree.
There was too much going on and it was hot plus the alcohol started to get to Katsura’s head too. When in foreign countries she sometimes drank with the locals, but not quite as much beer as here and not without eating a ton beforehand. She felt dizzy and tapped Sakura on the shoulder as if to say she was going to take a breather outside.
The room they were in was one of the largest of this newly opened karaoke place. It was in the centre of Uchiha district, not two streets from the tattoo shop Sakura worked at and was allegedly directly operated by Uchiha Shisui, who by all means would become Uchiha clan head someday. Katsura had asked Uchiha Obito, one of Kakashi’s partners, why Shisui, who had a reputation to be rather brutal in his underground activity, had decided to buy a karaoke place, but Obito had only shrugged and said: “Because he felt like it.”
Maybe it was a front for money laundering or whatever, Katsura thought and once again reminded herself not to stick her nose into things that weren’t hers to know. She wasn’t like Aori, who’s sense of righteousness made it almost impossible for her to turn a blind eye to injustice. Having Gai, who was strong, as a partner helped her only so much. Her good relations with Naruto and in extension Kakashi (also through Gai) kept her mostly safe.
Upstairs were the smaller rooms and Katsura came to a stop in front of one of them. Inside someone was passionately singing “Who let the dogs out” and howling in tune with the dog barks of the song. It made her laugh and with the alcohol having lowered her limit for embarrassment she stopped for a bit and howled along with the person singing inside.
She didn’t notice that the door had opened until a big figure suddenly threw a shadow on her face: “I didn’t know you were such a passionate singer.” It was Shino.
Katsura almost choked on her own spit trying to close her mouth fast. Of course, there was only one person that would passionately sing a song about dogs and howl along, Kiba, and if Shino was here now then that meant that the other person inside was probably Hinata. A Hyuuga deep in Uchiha territory. Times have really been peaceful lately.
“No, I just… thought it's a fun song,” she replied, feeling very suddenly and very unnecessarily hot.
He smiled. “I didn’t know you were here either.”
“We are downstairs. I was just on my way to get some air.”
“So was I. Can I join you?” He gestured to the door and though she felt uneasy, Katsura nodded and then went ahead outside into the icy cold.
Shino was wearing his long coat again and though it was night out the sunglasses were right there on his eyes. Katsura caught a glimpse of herself in the reflection of the door and knew she looked a little red, but this could be put down to alcohol and heat, so there was nothing to worry about.
“You smoke?” He asked and took a lighter out of his pocket.
Katsura shook her head. “You?”
“No, I just have a lighter, if in case.” He let it sink back into his coat.
Then they both went quiet.
She sucked in the fresh air and tried to clear her mind a little, but despite the cold she could feel her fingers sweating. Shino leaned right next to her against the building wall, shoulder to shoulder, and somehow that made her more nervous than standing up and singing karaoke in front of Aori’s friends had.
“When will you leave again?” Shino asked friendly.
Katsura suddenly remembered the dream she had had, about him asking to come along. She pulled her shoulders up. “Day after tomorrow.”
“Where to this time?”
Katsura weighed her head: “Australia.”
Shino huffed in admiration. “Wow, there is so much to see there, I am a little envious of you for that.”
She really wanted to offer him to come along again, like she had that time in the cafe. But she remembered that he had said it was impossible and so why do it again anyway? Just to hear the same reply again? So instead of reaching out to him a second time she just hummed in agreement.
For a moment she could feel his eyes rest on the side of her face as if he was thinking of something intensely. In her mind she hoped that the blush she felt could pass up as her being cold. Then Shino laughed a little quietly: “But, well, the next few days I will spend time with my parents and siblings instead. Also not too bad.”
Somehow she couldn’t shake the feeling that he was disappointed.
-
Gai was still asleep the next morning when Katsura and Aori sat opposite to each other at the breakfast table. He had a little much to drink the night before and needed a little more rest than the two women, not that Katsura’s head wasn’t also hammering violently.
She had just finished telling Aori of the encounter she had had the night before at the karaoke bar, which she had no time to talk about the night before. She was hesitating to tell her sister about her wish to ask Shino to come along with her on her travels. The sisters shared a lot with each other, but this seemed so weirdly personal.
“Hm, you keep running into Shino. Almost feels like destiny wants to tell you something.” Aori took a sip from her tea.
Katsura could feel the heat in her face again and looked away, hoping her sister hadn’t noticed. But Aori knew her sister too well to miss it. “Oh.” Aori chuckled.
“‘Oh’ again.” Katsura said, a little annoyed. “People keep saying that when I talk about Shino. It’s rude, you know.”
Her sister grinned: “Well, I guess there are other people who realise you have a crush on the guy.” Aori stopped exactly long enough so that Katsura’s cheeks could redden even deeper. “It’s no surprise really. You guys really would match well.” She made a face. “You have similar interests.”
“I don’t have a crush on him. He is just nice to me.”
Aori laughed. “Well if you want to live in denial.”
Katsura put her cup down, a little more aggressive than maybe necessary. “Just because you now have a - well - “boyfriend”, does not mean you are the expert on love. You can’t even talk to him right when he compliments you.”
Now Aori was red too, but more of anger than embarrassment. She raised a brow in question. “Alright then Katsura.”
“Besides,” Katsura continued. “I’m leaving tomorrow. It is not like I would see him very often. Who knows when I’ll be back. And I can’t just ask him to come along so I can get to know him better.” She was rambling.
“Why not?” Aori asked, trying to hide her grin behind the cup of tea again.
“Because!” she shot back. “He told me he couldn't come with me the first time I asked and so how could I ask again? He is busy, he has his students and his work and - and I don’t think he would be willing to spend time with me so I can figure my feelings- ”
She stopped mid sentence, suddenly very aware of what she had just said out loud.
Aori finally set the cup back down. “So you have feelings for him.”
“I don’t know!” Katsura folded her arms in front of her body and pouted.
Her sister sighed. “I think you should ask him if he wants to come along with you. Or at least ask him why he said it’s impossible for him to come. So you understand if your feelings are returned or not.” She reached out her hand and pressed Katsura’s. “But, of course, I am just your lame older sister that can’t talk to the guy that is her boyfriend.” Katsura laughed.
“Do you really think he might return these feelings?” Katsura pressed Aori’s hand now too.
“No choice but to ask him.
-
“Shino”, Katsura yelled after him, hands pressed into her burning sides.
The man exchanged a look with his father and mother and then stopped while his parents walked on. It was heavily snowing now, Katsura could barely see him through the thick flakes.
“Did you run here?” He seemed worried.
She forced herself to look up: “It was no big deal.” Shino only raised his eyebrows at that, especially since she still couldn’t catch her breath.
The ice stung in her lungs. “I think I lost my -” she touched her throat and yes, her scarf was gone, but then she shook herself, “- Doesn’t matter, I have more important things to ask about.”
As she stood to regain her breath and her conviction she noticed that Shino had taken a step towards her so that he towered over her. Suddenly she felt something warm on her neck and when she looked up she realised that Shino had tied the ends of his own scarf around her back.
“You should keep warm otherwise you might get sick and miss your flight,” he said kindly.
Katsura felt her heart clench again and shuddered a little. “Th-Thanks.”
She straightened her back out, which didn’t help in any way because she was still much smaller than Shino was. He was so close to her now that she could feel his breathing on her face and it made her so uneasy that she felt like running away from him. But no, she reminded herself, Aori had told her this was all normal.
“Uh- Shino,” Katsura began trying to find the right words to say, “I wanted to ask you something.”
Shino smiled: “Go ahead.”
It wasn’t easy putting into words what she was feeling. To say “I have a crush on you” right now, especially after just having seen him for a few days, seemed so stupid and childish, even if it was true. She couldn’t be sure that he felt similar and that would just break her heart. She thought again how much easier her life had been when romantic feelings were just something that other people engaged in.
“Do- do you…” she stammered. “Do you maybe - uh -” His scarf next to her nose smelled like him and for a moment Katsura got sidetracked from the scent. Then she shook her head to ground herself back in reality: “If you would like to come with me to - to Australia, I would not m-mind working with you.”
That was by far the most diplomatic way she could have asked that without giving away too much of her feelings.
He seemed a little surprised, his mouth opening slightly and then closing just to open to a smile again. “That's a little spontaneous.”
“Yes, I know, I know. I wanted to ask you - before, but I c-couldn’t.” She looked at her feet again. “And last time you said it was impossible for you, so I didn’t want to be a bother…”
When she looked up she saw snow all over his hair, colouring the dark brown with white points like little bugs swarming around his head. He was also looking at her, as far as she could tell from where his shades were aimed at. Her fingers felt cold in the air but also sweaty with nerves. Nothing, he said nothing, as if he was trying to consider as carefully as he could.
But then he lifted his head to push snowflakes out of her hair. The intimate touch made her feel dizzy. “I have always wanted to leave this place,” he said without looking at her. “I always wanted to travel and see the world and research, but - more than that, I’ve for a long time wanted to travel with you.”
“W- -me?!” She wasn’t sure she had heard him right.
Shino chuckled again. That low rumble in his voice that she had heard at night in her dreams. He didn’t repeat what he said, instead he zipped down his coat and then drew Katsura in, pressing her against his own beating heart and wrapping her up in his arms.
“That is why I at first said it would be impossible for me to go with you,” he explained. “Not when you don’t feel the way I do.”
That was when she realised that no, these feeling weren’t one sided at all
-
The snow had let up outside, but the world was still coated in white. “Here you go,” Shino said and handed Katsura a cup of coffee that she eagerly took into her hands. The airport was heated of course, but just watching the cold world outside made her feel cold too.
He settled in next to her and put his feet up over his on board luggage in front of him, his nose once again deeply in a magazine about newly published academy papers. KAtsura had teased him about it earlier in the day, that he was like a professor and Shino had only shrugged his shoulders and said that he was considering becoming a teacher, yes.
“I can’t believe you actually convinced your family to let you go”; Katsura said, for what felt like the 50th time today. It was true, she could hardly believe it.
Shino hummed. He seemed too tired now to repeat the line he had said all day when she had brought it up. “I’m an adult, they can’t stop me.”
Instead he reached out his hand to Katsura and found hers to wrap his fingers around. Her heart skipped a beat for a second, not yet used to this being a normal occurrence. Dating someone brought many new experiences.
“I’m glad it all worked out though,” he said finally, with his usual quiet smile. “I’m glad I get to go with you.”
Katsura leaned over, against his shoulder: “I’m happy you get to go with me.”

‹𝟹 :: ⭑⭒ 🗨 !! 𓏲 what naruto men would be like as boyfriends!
✰ pairing: them x f!reader
✰ warnings: none, except maybe being a bit cringy? it’s rushed too, there might be errors since i didn’t proofread.
i was bored and had nothing to write, so i came up with this idea to occupy someone’s delusional thoughts — though the characters might seem out of their usual paced.
the sunshine boyfriend
uzumaki naruto, rock lee, inuzuka kiba, akimichi choji
a surge of energy that is consistently buoyant in your life. they make you laugh with their jokes and antics, and their contagious laughter and lively humor makes your day. they are the gregarious person that infuses the group with spontaneity and a sense of joy during social events. they may be that social, but beneath that there’s a side that comes out in the way they treat you. they always make sure you feel supported and loved—paying close attention to your happiness and well-being. they are there for you with effort and loyalty, whether it’s celebrating your victories or providing you with comfort during your most vulnerable times and they constantly bring warmth and positivity into your being—in your life, like a ray of sunshine.
the reserved and protective boyfriend
uchiha itachi, hyuga neji, gaara, aburame shino
prioritizes your happiness above all else, their actions speaking volumes about their commitment to your well-being. they don’t rely on words to show their affection; instead, they express their love through thoughtful gestures that make your heart flutter. their confidence in your bond is reassuring—as they know your heart belongs to them alone. they’re attuned to your every need and desire—noticing the smallest details that make you feel truly understood and loved. your relationship with them resembles as each other’s safety nets—like the archers, both are holding onto one another.
the ideal boyfriend
uchiha obito, hatake kakashi, nara shikamaru
they radiate a sophisticated poise and a playful charisma. they always know how to make you laugh and feel at ease while adeptly balancing a relaxed style with courteous care. their dependability make you feel consistently loved—their protectiveness guarantee that you feel safe and treasured. they are the kind that are good at flirting—the tease one and those who can be called a “playboy”—but they are extremely loyal. they are often perceived as having many women in their lives, but in reality, that is just their aura; they only have one person in mind, and that someone is you. they are the combination of carefree and playful, which makes them an ideal partner in every way.
the black cat boyfriend
uchiha sasuke
someone who, like a feline, keeps a cold exterior, appearing remote and aloof. despite his outward demeanor, his heart races in your presence, and he blushes when he sees you. he may reject inquiries about his thoughts with a flippant “it’s nothing,” but his actions scream louder than words, much like a black cat’s intriguing charm. although expressing feelings vocally is difficult for him, he expresses caring through actions and intimate moments shared only with you (just like with the second one)

Naruto Characters who should've been girl dads: a short list
Rock Lee
This man has PURE girl dad energy. He should've had a little girl that wants to kick ass just like him and he is in equal parts excited and worried because that's his little princess and he doesn't want her to get hurt, but he would help her train anyways, because he knows she can do it.
2. Sasuke Uchiha
Not a big fan of Sasuke tbh and ik he's canonically a girl dad but NO THE FUCK HE ISN'T this man nutted and dipped and left Sakura to raise Sarada by herself. In my opinion he should've been sentenced to village arrest in konoha and watched a little girl that looks just like him grow up and realize that he actually likes being a dad (because I think that would be hilarious)
3. Shino Aburame
Shino gives me vibes that he would complain to the manager of a restaurant that there are no baby changing stations in the male bathroom, because of course he would take his child everywhere with him. He needs to have a little girl so she can be a lil weird like him and he can validate every single one of her thoughts.
4. Shikamaru Nara
Shikamaru would just be too ironic for it not to happen. The "women are too troublesome" guy getting a baby girl and the moment he holds her she is the only one that makes sense in the room. If you have a problem with her, you have a problem with him first. "Shikamaru your daughter is too troublesome" No she's not. She's perfect. Shut up. 5. Kankuro
Kankuro is literally a girl dad without having a daughter. Makeup? Check. Dolls? Check. The only thing that would make a weird little girl that plays with barbies more powerful is if she could kick your ass while doing it, and he would 100% teach his baby how to do it. 6. Naruto Uzumaki
Tbh I kinda forgot about him because he already is a girl dad but I need to see Naruto, the creator of the sexy no jutsu, having a pretty little girl growing up and getting absolutely LIVID that she's starting to get attention from other boys. What do you mean she's at the age that she's thinking about dating? That's his BABY. 7. Neji Hyuuga
He's in this list literally just because he'd teach his baby girl how to take care of her hair. He WOULD let her practice hairstyling on him. that's it. 8. Juugo
If he had a daughter he would validate every single one of her tantrums. "You want to punch that lightpost? You feel like pulling a guy's heart out? Me too!" He would say. Also he'd carry her around his shoulders forever. Even when she's an adult. Also he's a disney princess x female rage mc lovechild that happened to be a boy so he's perfect

Shino Aburame Relationship HCs
I love bug boy. I’ve had things in my drafts for him for so long.
Warnings: NSFW (marked off clearly if you don’t want to read)
SFW:
If you listened to him when he spoke, instead of interrupting him or speaking over him without noticing, he’d feel appreciated.
However, he is still iffy on things, even then, for a while. Like if you say his name last, he’ll take it to heart even if the order of names wasn’t important.
He’ll take not being the first person on your mind personally.
But overtime, if you treat him like you see him, he’ll notice that.
And eventually, he falls for you. Probably before you really did for him, considering he’s a bit quiet.
If you’re quiet too, that’s okay. Things might just move slower.
But if you’re a bit or way more talkative, he’ll enjoy listening to you. He finds he doesn’t mind constant talking and rambling if it’s from you. He likes to listen to every detail and try to commit things he may need to know later to his memory.
Overtime, you’d find yourself falling for him. After all, once you get to know him you’ll realize he’s committed to protecting his friends and his bugs. And really he’s quite kind hearted.
Now it can be a little hard to be with him if you’re not willing to discuss bugs.
He won’t make you hold them if you don’t like them. In fact, if you’re afraid of them, he figures it may be best if you don’t handle them for their and your safety. Mostly theirs because they’re easy to hurt.
But you at least have to be willing to discuss and learn about bugs. After all, I hc him as autistic (I think he is 100% coded to be autistic. He’s a lot like me so I can totally see it) so that’s his special interest.
And Shino doesn’t easily see a point in engaging in a conversation not about his special interest.
He’ll find he’s willing to listen in about your interests (or special interests or hyperfixations) just because it’s you. And he wants to hear about you, and from you.
I think you’d have to be the one to ask him out.
So you do.
The relationship starts off slow. You’ll slowly get more from him, but he’s slow to open up, or to talk in general.
Most dates will be you talking, and him listening.
But you plan a date purposely centered around him, and at first he doesn’t notice, but soon you’re talking about his bugs and he starts to catch on.
You did a lot for him. And he feels special.
Really, the key to his heart is to see him. Make him feel special. Because he really is ❤️
You two garden together if you’re okay with getting your hands a little dirty.
He remembers your favorite flower from times like those when you tell him, and he’ll plant plenty for you. Even buy you some for the next date and special occasions.
He talks so highly of you.
Quiet dates usually.
Or dates where you both infodump.
He’d be perfectly okay with just existing in the same space quietly if you like that.
Eventually you’ll probably get to see his eyes! Don’t go around telling people what they look like though unless he’s told you that you can. More than likely, that’s more of between you two kind of thing.
If you’re a shinobi, he knows you can protect yourself, but he’d make sure he can cover your back well in anyway you could possibly need so he can protect you.
NSFW:
This takes a long time for him to be ready for.
But when you two are ready, he wants it to be perfect.
It’d have to be when you two are alone together in one of your bedrooms, no possibility of distraction or interruption.
Likely at night.
Your first time with him would be intimate, slow, and careful. A bit awkward too.
I’m willing to bet that he doesn’t often touch himself, so he’s not all that sure how he likes things.
He’ll be discovering a lot about himself with you because it’s not very likely he’s been with anybody before you.
He’s big, and he’s aware of that, though. So he wants to make sure you’re more than ready for him.
He’ll go down on you first if that’s okay with you. Finger you a bit during or after that.
Likely he’ll take his time getting to know exactly how you like things, and eventually it’ll get to the point you’re begging him to just put it in you.
When you see his cock for the first time, you do a double take for sure. He’s huge. And now you’re probably wonder how you’ll be able to handle him.
He’ll go slow, but I totally think this would be the one time he can barely control himself.
He’s so composed and put together most of the time. All serious. But being inside you makes him lose all of that. He’s drunk on you.
He tries to stay quiet, but things totally slip from his throat and out his lips. Quiet, but you notice.
He’s careful not to hurt you, but he’s in euphoria with the way you feel around him so his pace picks up a little bit rather he means to or not.
Now he’s not a minute man, it takes longer for him to cum even if this is 100% the best he’s ever felt in his life.
He cums hard though. And takes a little bit to recover from it, so if you want another round, give him a few minutes to breathe.
I think things with him would be rather vanilla (this might be projection tho, bc I’m a basic boring vanilla bitch)
He insists on using a condom and any means of protection you two can if you aren’t planning on having little kids running around any time soon.
Thank you for reading. I love Shino sm. If you have requests for him, send them in. Please.

AAAAAAAA I love this so FREAKIN much!! Thank you😍 I can’t believe you wrote all this for my little Aburame fam and included Torune and Fuu in the cutest way possible!! 😍😍 but not you having me want to draw an old centipede
Calling (part 2)
@kankuroplease here is the second installment of that fic. It's still not done, but this piece itself deserves its own post because it's so sprawling.
Characters: Shino, Katsura, Shigeki, Niwa, Yasuo, Fuu, Torune
Ships: Shino/Katsura + ToruFuu
To say that he had been dreading this year and what it would bring wasn't quite correct, but Shino certainly did have his reservations about what chaos the newest batch of students to his classroom would bring. From the moment his wife had handed him the sheet containing the names of who would be his responsibility that year he knew it was going to be one hell of an experience. Katsura seemed to know before he did that something about this year would be special and so she was all too quick to take the paper from Iruka in order to confirm her hunch. It only took but a moment of visually scanning the contents of the page for her suspicions to gain merit. Shino felt his stomach drop just for a moment while watching his wife vet his next class roster, knowing that if she was looking it over before his eyes could even grace the page that something fishy was going on. When she finally lowered the paper from in front of her face, revealing raised brows and an implacable expression before she slid the sheet into his hands, he prepared himself for devastation. He chanced a look at the column of names and one after another the bombs hit him…until he reached the bottom and there it was. Uzumaki Boruto. The Hokage's oldest.
"Good luck my love, I will keep you in my thoughts every day." She teased, making sure to fill her voice with half-faux pity. It was all in good fun but damn the acting was convincing. So convincing that he actually considered asking for her prayers for real.
It had completely escaped his mind for a hot minute that this would also be the year that Shigeki would be starting, and the remembrance of such was a welcome shift for his outlook. When that fact had time to set in, giving him that much needed renewed sense of hope, it occurred to him that Iruka hadn't placed his son in his class. Meaning that another of the Senseis would be the one with the honor of teaching Aburame Shigeki the most important parts of being a Shinobi. The fact that Shino would not be his son's first Sensei didn't particularly surprise him even if it was a bit of a letdown, really he was more surprised that he dropped Shigeki's Academy entry from his mind just at the mere thought of having to wrangle Boruto on the daily. Boruto, and whoever else decided to flock to him because charisma ran in that family like horses on a track.
"And good luck to you, my little grub." Katsura turned to her son then and pulled him to her. It wouldn't be long until he was taller than her and it would be him doing the pulling in for a hug. Damn, the way time flew around here made her head want to spin.
"Dad is gonna need it far more than me." He crosses his arms in front of his chest and takes a bit of a cocky stance once his mother lets him go. "I just hope Izumo Sensei is ready for me."
"I'm sure you'll get along just fine. Try not to run laps around your classmates though, if you can. Be nice."
"No promises."
"If I get a call from his husband saying that you bullied him, I'm going to make sure Iruka gives you at least a week's worth of mandatory extra credit." She knew her boy would give everyone a run for their money but was confident he would fit in very well regardless. If it took some time to settle in, that was understandable. Time and effort were all that was needed now.
***
Watching the two of them take off in the same direction for the first time leaves her feeling just a little bit of melancholy. Of course, she still has both Niwa and Yasuo here with her for a couple more years, but before she knew it they would be making their ways too. For now she needed some time to think about about this and really process it so the first thing that popped into her head was to go out back and see how the plants were doing. The twins would understand when she told them in case they asked, they were old enough now to grasp slightly more subtle feelings. So she made sure to let them know where to find her as soon as her husband and oldest son were way out of view. Perhaps she would spend a few hours in the backyard, tending her flowers and hanging out with the local pollinator species, really just let her mind work through everything that was weighing on her. Yes that sounded very nice.
Several hours were spent in the company of the flora and the smallest fauna, watching the way the wind blew the grass and the leaves the flowers around, observing all of the insects checking out her well cared for gardens. Around the middle of the day, the twins came out to join her, bringing Tomo out with them to get some fresh air on his old body. Seeing the hardy little thing getting to enjoy the natural surroundings from which it came despite being advanced in age made her want to go out on an insect hunting expedition some time soon. Bring her entire family out and see what sorts of critters they couldn't uncover. Maybe even find another centipede to bring back with them to keep Tomo company (from a distance, in another enclosure, of course) if they were lucky. It had certainly been a while since any of them had gotten the chance to do something like that with all the preparation that has to be done for the new school year. So enticing was the thought of it that the rest of the time she had to herself had passed before she realized it. Shino and Shigeki had made their way home with plenty of things to say.
"I'm sorry, he did what now?" Her shock and awe and at the revealing of Boruto's antics was indeed great.
"Unfortunately we had to suspend him for an entire month and that means he will be responsible for catching up with the material at home. I have spoken to Hinata about it and she will make sure he doesn't slack in his studies."
"Now I'm really glad I'm not in that class. Can you imagine messing up that bad before the first day even begins?" Shigeki scoffs. He knows he's above all that type of stuff. But both of his siblings give him a look and it brings a very slight red tint to his cheeks out of embarrassment. "What? I'd never do anything like that. Lord Hokage should ground him. Though it does take some kind of crazy skill to not only crash a train into Hokage Mountain but land exactly on your own father's stone face."
Katsura places one hand on top of her bragging son's head. "I told you to be nice."
"It's not like he's around to hear it." He mutters.
"I know you'd never behave like that. But you can't let him hear you talk shit or it could turn into a rivalry that's more trouble than it's worth. Rein it in now lest something accidentally slip the next time you're sharing space. Trust Me on this one."
There is much left to be discussed but it can all be saved until later. She also remembers that she wants to bring up the little insect hunting excursion concept to the lot of them at some point as well. They're all going into this year with high hopes and Katsura will make sure that it turns out better than the previous two years. Yes her husband still has two students who had not managed to pass yet, as both Iwabe and Enko were repeaters this year, but she had a good feeling that this would be the year it all changed. Something (or maybe multiple somethings) would swoop in and make it all better. Shino would finally see his entire class off once again. Onto bigger and better things, a clean slate in preparation for the year after this one. And then her son, too, would make it just as far in his own studies. Being a Shinobi may not have suited her all that well but it seemed like a better path for Shigeki and it was important to support him in that decision. Both her head and her heart are full that evening, all the thoughts buzzing like busy bees in her brain and all of her pride in her family evident in every way that she spoke with them. Shino and her share a look before sending the kids off to bed that night, and he knows that she's willing this year to be different for the better. Better for everyone.
***
Better, it turned out, was very much a process. Because as soon as Naruto's troublesome son returns to class for real, the ball gets rolling in several insane directions. First Boruto gets into a scrap with none other than Yuino Iwabe and they go to duke it out in the sparring room without even letting their Sensei know about it. But the outcome of that one on one blows Shino's mind when the two come out the other side with a good understanding of each other and a brand new friendship. Boruto, of course, doesn't come into the relationship alone either. He comes flanked on one side by another boy that seemed the opposite of someone with Boruto's energy level could hang out with, Kaminarimon Denki. And then there's the case of one Nara Shikadai and one Yamanaka Inojin. They come as a package deal and are easily tacked on to the new little clique headed by the Hokage's son. So a feud between two hotheads managed to come in and begin on the process of solving the current longest running issue in the class. Who would have thought. The power of one optimistic fool was more potent than expected. But who was Shino to complain, really, because sometimes the best friendships were forged from the most unusual of circumstances.
Next up on the docket of nonsense however was a quarrel between the boys and the girls. It started, apparently, over some food and quickly spiraled into ridiculous back and forthing primarily between Boruto and Sarada. Shino should have expected his charges to have some growing pains with their status as the children of all his beloved weird friends but this was ridiculous. No matter. Being 12 was difficult and he wouldn't begrudge them that fact. He would instead solve this just like he solved everything else that came his way. When the students were busy with other matters, he so brilliantly laid a series of traps and obstacles around their wing of the building and announced to them that if they wanted to resolve their feud then he was giving them the opportunity. A free pass and on school grounds too. It seemed like a foolproof plan. Until the children did exactly what they were told and literally brought the house down in the process. Their classroom looked worse than the time Iwabe tore up the tile the year earlier. Instead of just the floor of one room, it was a sizeable chunk of the entire building. Whoops. Now classes had to be held outside until repairs could be completed.
And THEN amidst the chaos of outdoor class, a brand new transfer student was placed into his class. Mitsuki, a strange but seemingly mellow child from the Hidden Sound, here after an agreement between Naruto and none other than Orochimaru so that the boy could experience life in the Hidden Leaf. The ordeal had him going back to his own childhood Sensei, Yuuhi Kurenai, for guidance when he needed a little extra reassurance and she managed to give him a grounding pep talk that he badly needed. Though the action he took on the heels of said conversation had both his wife and oldest son laughing at his new choice in outfit. Shino was going to throw a welcome party for Mitsuki while wearing a pair of goofy shades and red jacket over his usual attire. That obviously did not go as planned but his new student did not hold it against him one bit and managed to adjust just fine. For every sign of trouble, a light at the end of the tunnel awaited. Shino counted his lucky stars that this sequence managed to keep up with him through the adjustment period. If this was the outcome of every hurdle then he'd gladly accept some gentle ribbing from his family every time he brought his eccentric solutions to the table.
Until another, far more serious predicament came to a head. Dubbed the "Ghost Incident" by Boruto and his clique, people were put in serious danger by an unknown sinister force. He himself had even become one of the victims and damn near brought serious harm to three of his students as a result. It was like a horror story when he came back to himself only to realize what has just transpired. Never in a million years did he want to hurt a single child, no matter who they were, and he'd almost killed three in one go. Katsura knew something was dreadfully wrong when he arrived home late that day and told her everything without taking enough breaths between sentences. She held him tightly and reassured him over and over that it wasn't his fault and that the kids did not blame him. Whatever this Ghost Incident really was would have to be solved as soon as possible so no more harm could come to anyone in the village. It took him a while to let it sink in properly, but he was grateful to have his beloved wife there with him through it.
Again and again there were reports of people being possessed for a short period and only brought back to reality with physical force. Eventually, the victims began to lose their chakra to whatever was possessing them and that's when Sai had to get involved. He took over looking into what was going on and Shino had to put all his faith in the man to actually find out the root cause. But that cause…turned out to be something that turned his blood to ice in his veins. If he thought the first time one of his students had trouble at home was bad, he was not ready for this revelation. Kakei Sumire. The girl everyone liked to call Class Rep. Sweet and friendly, a bit skittish but a great friend to have, turned out to be the one behind the entire Ghost Incident. And it was all because her father forced this initiative on her. If it wasn't for the intervention of Boruto when the situation reached a critical mass then it could have razed the village to a crater. Once more, the undaunted son of the Seventh Hokage had reached out to help someone who really needed it with his special way of connecting with others. And it worked. He, with help from Mitsuki, pulled Sumire back from the brink and solved the Ghost Incident in a brazen sweep. Shino was floored at the way this boy had with his friends. Whatever reservations he had before about teaching him that year has to take a backseat to the amazement.
Each and every time he came home with new incredible (often almost unbelievable) stories to tell his family, the more Shigeki envied his father's class. He rethought his position on being glad not to be placed in it and found himself wishing a transfer was possible. At this, Yasuo made sure to tease him about doubting his first stance because his older brother always tried to stick to his convictions when he made up his mind. To see Shigeki have clear doubts and jealousies over something like this was novel and Yasuo didn't want to miss it for anything. Niwa, meanwhile, sided with her oldest sibling. He should be able to change his mind whenever he wanted and not be poked fun at for it. Katsura made sure to let all three of them know that they shouldn't be squabbling about this because their father had been through hell and back in just a few short weeks of the new year beginning. She was right, of course, but Shigeki in particular simply huffed and cursed his rotten luck with placement. Dad was living life like an action packed Kagemasa movie and he was going through the motions as normal. No fair.
Shino had other things to worry about though rather than the fact that his son was jealous that he got Izumo as his Sensei instead of his own father, even if the actual jealousy was over having an eventful environment rather than who was teaching the lessons. Once Boruto and Mitsuki has managed to save Sumire from her dreadful and miserable life path imparted to her by her deceased father, the matter of what to do with her became a concern. She was clearly very shaken and afraid to hurt the rest of her class even more and there were plenty of people higher up than him that thought her a danger even though she no longer was. So her new fate hung up in the air in limbo and he knew as her teacher and as someone who had made a vow to protect all of those who needed it most, this was the time to step up and say something. All of his remaining students shared a lot of his worries about their dear friend and classmate. It did his heart such good to see, so now it was on him to see to it that they didn't lose her and that she didn't lose them. The value of bonds in times of crisis simply could not be understated.
"Do you know what you can do for her? I wish I had any ideas, but I'm lost." Katsura had expressed to him while he was deep in contemplation over it. She hated watching it eat away at her husband and it killed her to know that this has been brought down on a child who already had it hard enough.
"I'm going to go back to Sai and ask him something important. If he can help me here, then I believe we will have a workable solution." His face was stern and his words were solid. She hadn't seen him this determined to figure out a solution to a problem in a while, and it gave her confidence that he would be able to do it.
"Good luck. If you need any reinforcements, call me and I will come double down with you no matter what I'm doing."
Katsura watched him take off that morning not for his classroom but instead in the direction of where his shaken up student had been given quiet refuge while awaiting her fate. Though he said he had to speak with Sai, it seemed that he most likely wanted to keep her in the loop first. It was always like him to be so considerate of the needs of his students, this class in particular felt like an extension of his own family in a way after all, and it only made her hope harder that he would be able to steer this the way he was clearly envisioning. Unfortunately it wasn't as clear to her how long the process of stabilizing Sumire's life would take but Katsura knew her husband would waste no time or energy in the task. Everything he set out to do had a purpose and she couldn't wait till the time he came home to tell her the good news she knew could be the only possible outcome. Having faith in Shino never failed her before, and this time would be no difference.
And she has never been so proud to be right. There has been a couple days of deliberation between himself and (as it turned out) more than just Sai but it was all worth it for Shino. Especially when he was able to bring his wayward student back to class, the looks on the faces of everyone else made him internally emotional every time he thinks back on it. When she asks him for the details and he allows a smile to creep up slowly onto his face she knows that she will enjoy everything he's about to say. Details about his talks first with Sai and then Iruka, reassurances paid to several high ranking members of village security, and of course what Sumire herself had to say when he sincerely asked her if she wanted to return to class with everyone. Katsura stood in awe at the dedication and compassion her beloved spouse had shown in his efforts to ease the burdens off a child who had had it so rough until now. It fully reinforced her belief that teaching and guiding was the right path in life for him.
"I must find a proper way to thank Sai myself for agreeing to this." He begins. This part immediately made her perk up her ears. "And of course, Ino as well."
"Both of them?" She cocks her head to the side just a little in order to express curious confusion.
Shino nods just slightly before continuing. "Because of the shared link back to Danzo's cruel pet project, there is much he can offer Sumire in the way of support and healing. He's in fact the most qualified for the job. It took a little longer than expected because he had to run the idea by his wife before bringing me a final yes."
"I think I know what you're implying…"
"None of us are keen to leave the girl to fend for herself after all of this. I wish I had been made aware of things sooner because we could have made it easier on her and perhaps avoided this entire traumatic explosion. As of this week, she will be permanently staying with the Yamanaka family."
With that, Katsura reaches up with both hands and holds her husband's face. Reverently she looks upon him and feels like the most fortunate woman in the world to not only know him but love him too. There was no length he wouldn't go to in order to help a friend, a loved one, or a child who needed it. This time he had expressed his thorough methods to their fullest extent and closed an important case for good. He revels in the warm touch of his wife for only a moment longer before reaching up to remove his visor. Their eyes lock and he knows she's mesmerized by all that he is so he has to be the first one to break that hold by slowly leaning down to kiss her. She shifts her hold to around his neck as he lifts her up, making sure to support her weight fully so that she may cling to him like a koala. The two are just a little too wrapped up in each other to properly notice when the door opens and Shigeki enters. He looks his folks up and down and decides he's going to elaborate about his day regardless of what they're doing.
"Inoe had it out with this cocky little Fuuma boy today. She won, obviously. But then Izumo Sensei ruined all the fun."
The lovebirds spend just a few more moments in their lock before letting out a mutual sigh, releasing their grip on each other so that they may turn their collective attention to their storytelling son. Another time…they'd pick this back up later. Shino, knowing that if this story involved Kiba's daughter it would surely be one to pay attention to, addressed Shigeki on behalf of both himself and his amorous wife.
"And you didn't get yourself wound up in it too, did you?"
"Well…"
***
"Are you kidding me!" The gripe is loud enough to damn near echo through the entire first floor of the house. Shigeki is not happy.
"I wish it were possible for you to go too, but your father has informed me that there's an ulterior motive behind this entire decision so it's best you stay back and continue with class." Katsura knows how unfair her son thinks all of this is. She doesn't blame him one bit for his reaction. But at the end of the day, her hands were tied.
"Who cares what the reasons boil down to! I wanna go to Kiri too. I want to see everything they're going to get to see." His arms cross over his chest and he puts on his best unhappy face. It doesn't improve even when his mom puts one hand on top of his head to smooth back his hair just a little.
"I'm sure he'll bring back something good for you to treasure even if you're not allowed to go." She sighs, hopeful that she's not wrong. "Whatever business is going on behind the scenes I'm not sure…but I'm confident that you won't be forgotten in all of it."
"Why is it that my class doesn't even get half of the interesting shit happening to it but theirs seems like they're the main focus of an adventure novel?"
"I wish I could give you an answer that made sense, I really do. One day you'll get to see the Hidden Mist too. It will just have to be on a mission. And there will be plenty of those."
"I don't wanna have to wait that long."
Katsura feels for her son in this moment. He's done pretty much everything right in his studies and barely gotten in any trouble yet. Izumo Sensei isn't even to blame for not taking his own class on an extended field trip the way her husband would be guiding his students through Kiri. No, she was sure that the ones who arranged for that were above the heads of the average teachers. Shino had told her that Anko was to accompany them when they went over to Water Country and there would be more than one "meeting" with the former Lady Fifth Mizukage. All of it sounded more than a little fishy and it made her wish she could be a fly on the wall to hear what was to be said at those gatherings. If not for her own sake, than for the sake of her oldest who was missing out on seeing more of the world simply because he has been placed in the "wrong" class from the start.
"I'll make a deal with you, does that sound okay?" The idea pops into her head after she's done feeling petulant on his behalf.
"What kind of deal?" He's skeptical, both eyebrows raised to not quite meet his hairline, but willing to hear his mother out.
"After all of this travel is over and done with, I will ask your father if he would be willing to take all of us somewhere else to make it up to you." She steels herself for the next part. "And if he isn't, then I will let him know that I'll take you somewhere myself. Just the two of us. So you get to see somewhere beyond Fire Country's boundaries too."
The sparkle in the boy's eyes do not betray him. Such a vow has his immediate attention and he looks at his mother like she has superpowers. Katsura is just a little proud of herself for steering his unhappiness into better territory and finds that even just the talk of getting out excites her. With any luck she would be able to weasel their collective way into going to the border of Kusa and Taki because that was prime territory for hunting rare insects. The environment was hospitable to such creatures with its abundant plant life and warm temperatures. Now the only thing she could see as a blockade to the plan was the fact that, if it were her husband taking the lot of them, he would have to have someone fill in for him in class. Though…Anko could probably manage. Especially if she was even partly behind the ulterior motives for this Kiri trip. She owed him, that was for sure.
"I know asking you to keep this hush-hush feels like a big thing but we don't want to overload him right now because he's already stressing over this entire Mist mess."
Shigeki shakes his head so as to banish any traces of guilt she may have. "If it's for the chance to go out, I can do it. I promise."
Katsura beams brightly at her son and his tenacity. "What would I do without you."
Events feel like they pass slower than usual after that conversation but Shigeki knows he must learn patience. It's worth it to wait this out because no matter what happened he would get the chance to go somewhere he had never been before. Maybe even somewhere cooler than Kirigakure, and then he could brag about it to everyone back at the Academy when he returned. Bragging rights sure did sound like a great incentive to keep his patience in check so he made a promise to himself to act like nothing was out of the ordinary so as not to rouse suspicions from either his Sensei or his classmates. Both of his parents seemed rather impressed with his unusually put together behavior though only Katsura knew what it was for. If Shino were to ask, she too would play coy and go on with business as usual.
Not seeing her husband for between one and two weeks was the only part she truly thought was shitty. Everything would be fine at home but lacking his company was a downside she wish she did not have to take on. So distractions from his absence would absolutely be in order. From the moment she saw him off, watching him go down the same path he took every day but knowing this time he'd not be home later the same day, she willed herself to focus on other feelings aside from primarily missing him. Shigeki would at least be back later on and hopefully he would still be in a good mood. In fact, she could probably let Niwa and Yasuo in on her little plan now too since their father was out of the house and the temptation to tell him was removed. Oh that was an excellent plan. One she began looking forward to right away.
Until…her son arrived home after class was done for the day. He had a similar sparkle in his eyes that she had seen when she divulged the plan to him several days ago and it gave her the funny feeling that the plans were now in need of a serious update, if not being put off for a while altogether. He found her seated at the table looking over an unfurled scroll full of her beautiful handwriting and could barely take a seat across from her without vibrating out of his own skin. Katsura set her brush down carefully and rolled the scroll up to continue with later as it would be unfair not to give her child her full attention when he clearly had much to say.
"Uncle Torune's boyfriend stopped by today when I went to go talk to Iruka Sensei."
Immediately her right eyebrow shot up. "What did you do this time?"
"Don't worry about that we talked through it I promise it's not a big deal." He glazed over all details in order to move the plot along. "He was bringing some documents or something in for approval and I was there to hear about it!"
"We're going to talk about that first thing later but what did you hear from Fuu?"
That's when all of his energy came to a peak and he jumped out of his seat, voice raised to match his motions. "They're taking our class to Kumo!"
Katsura blinked like a Nara deer caught red-hoofed eating out of someone's garden. "Who's taking you?"
"Not my Sensei that's for sure." He scoffed. "Uncle Torune and Fuu are taking us. I don't know why yet but we're going to the Cloud next month!"
Having to process all of this new information so suddenly felt like cramming a novel's worth of words into her brain just then. It wasn't that complicated but the suddenness of it took her by enough surprise that she hadn't had enough time to adjust yet. Of course she was excited as hell that her son would finally get his chance to see another place, ecstatic even. It meant that her plans had to be put on hold but it was worth it for the sake of Shigeki's happiness. Maybe it would even work out better because now there would be more time to plan in tandem with her husband when they would go, how long they would stay, who he could get to cover his class, and what they'd be bringing to and back from their destination. Somehow this wrench tossed into her plans was shaping up to be more of a solution than a hindrance. All of her mental gears were turning beautifully in that moment.
"You're going to be good for them and not cause problems, right Shigeki?" She gives him a look and accompanies it with a smirk. This kid is too much like her and she knows he's bound to get himself up to something. "I won't have to hear a laundry list of your shenanigans from Torune when I get back?"
"Even if I could give Uncle the slip, I doubt his emotional support Yamanaka would be as careless." He's laughing, clearly having fun being caught up in the concept. "So whether I want to or not, yes I will try to behave and not start an international incident."
"Good boy, I know I can count on you."
The rest of the evening is spent in high spirits. The twins come around later after the loud commotion has died down to ask what trouble their brother was in this time only to find out that it was good news he had brought home instead. Katsura was only all too happy to watch her three beloved children talk about what was going to happen together around the table as she made what would be their dinner that evening. The idea that maybe class trips to far away places was becoming the norm had both Yasuo and Niwa intrigued about someday possibly doing the same as their big brother. Both were still two years off from entrance into the Academy but they had more patience than Shigeki ever did. And by the time they did get to where he was, who knew what would be in store for them. All of the joy shared between the three of them was contagious and had Katsura in a good mood all the way to bed that night. Though she still was missing her husband, it was made much easier to bear with the upbeat atmosphere at home.

Shino looks like he had been through two weeks of hell by the time he makes it home from the field trip. He makes sure to reassure his wife from the get go that he's okay but will need some time to come down from the constant action of the last half of his time in Kiri. Katsura is eager to hear the entire story but makes sure to give him enough time and space to decompress enough in order to properly interact with his loved ones again without feeling like a cornered animal. Shigeki opts to sit the conversation out as he doesn't want to divert much needed attention away from his father's understandable concerns with his own hype to take off in a couple more weeks. But in his place both of his siblings come to comfort and hear out their father, a gesture he appreciates very much so. Being surrounded by most of his family who he had missed dearly does wonders on his frayed nerves.
"What happened where you went? I don't think I've ever seen you this upset, dad." Niwa speaks first. She's a smart and observant girl and very much concerned about her father.
"Did you guys get attacked?" Yasuo picks up where his sister left off, hoping the answer to his question will be a resounding no.
The now less frazzled man takes a deep breath to collect his thoughts and swivels in his seat to face his children. He hadn't even bothered to don his visor so the look on his eyes was on full display, which only added to everyone's worry. "There is still an incredible amount of instability over in Water Country. We knew, going there, that it was still working on healing from everything that has gone on in the past but apparently some individuals with valid points are very good at keeping their plans under the radar until it's time to move. This is probably because giving away their tactics will have the Mizukage's security forces on top of them in a heartbeat."
"Is Chojuuro really doing that shitty of a job picking up where Lady Mei left off?" Katsura interjects. She knows little of the blue haired maan personally. Most people speak kindly of him, but she's aware that it's very possible to carry biases.
"No, he's doing the best he can as someone still new to his position." Shino very lightly shakes his head side to side. "Obviously not everything he does will sit well with every person. It's going to take several years to find the right balance like his predecessor had established for herself."
From the other room, Shigeki admittedly is listening in the best he can to the conversation going on. He shouldn't pry why he made it clear he didn't want to be present for the talk but it's impossible to resist when the talk of instability in another land is the topic at hand. Konoha all around him is doing pretty well for itself, as far as he can tell, but it seems that wasn't a universal thing everywhere. Would he arrive in the Hidden Cloud in a couple of weeks only to discover something similar…or was this a unique problem of just the Mist? All of this questioning made him truly feel like he did not have enough experience beyond the walls of the village and that wasn't a good thing. Maybe later he would talk one on one with his father and ask about the world around him that he wasn't seeing. Just to get an idea of what he was going out into after he graduates. It would never do to jump into something ill prepared and end up fucked over. Just the thought of the scope of what he didn't know made him equal parts jealous that he couldn't go on that trip…and thankful that he hadn't been there to see the raw state of things.
He got his chance just before bed, after both of his siblings were in their room and their mother was taking a nice long bath to soothe her stuff shoulders. Shino had sensed that his oldest was having some sort of troubles he was hesitant to voice and opted to make the first move. The two of them spent some time together at the kitchen table discussing exactly what had gone down in Kiri and talking about what the world at large was like outside of Konoha. It was difficult being so young and inexperienced and not having a way to safely see everything firsthand yet. While the world was moving towards true peace, it was still a time of transition and not everyone was going peacefully. There was still more safety in a three man squad (four counting the instructor) than for a solo Academy student when it came to venturing beyond the gates of the Leaf. Hopefully that would not always be the case, but for the moment it was just reality.
"What's going to happen to everyone that followed Shizuma off the deep end?"
"Right now, almost all of them are being detained in a special holding facility for further observation. Kagura is being granted leniency as he had been manipulated but the others are still of unclear fates."
"Do you think it's fair that they're behind bars for acting out for justified reasons?"
"That's a very complicated answer. While yes they were justified in being upset with how their village treated their families, their methods were too radically violent to just trust them running free. Eventually it will hopefully change for the better."
The two of them go back and forth until Shigeki is truly satisfied and caught up. He still is unsure how to really feel, be he trusts his father's words and wants to believe that the best will come of this misfortune. Shino knows it's a hard dose of reality to give to a child but he valued honesty when it was something this serious. Shigeki had asked and wanted to know so that's what Shino told him: the truth. And when the mood finally began to settle after that topic was over, the thought occurred to the younger Aburame that there was something he wanted to make his dad aware of. He was going on his own class trip to the most prominent village in Lightning Country and despite his uncertainties he was still quite excited for it. Upon hearing the news and seeing the hope written on his child's face, Shino allowed himself to finally smile and truly be happy for the boy as well. Kumogakure was a beautiful and relatively relaxed place. It would be a great experience for him. And, hopefully, one wholly unlike what he himself had just weathered in Water Country.
They spend the rest of their time together talking about what it was like in the elevated landscape of the Hidden Cloud and all the sights that were there to behold. Shino mentioned to him that he may even have the honor of meeting one of the only perfect Jinchuuriki in history, Lord Killer Bee, if the man was keen to entertain the class. Thankfully his wonderfully hammy nature would probably ensure that to be the case. And of course, the fifth Raikage would surely welcome everyone in the class warmly. Shigeki went to bed that night with renewed eagerness to explore a land he'd never seen even though just a little bit earlier he had heard than another village was still having its own struggles. Shino was simply glad that his son was able to face the unknown world with such determination rather than fear and hesitation. He, and Katsura when she came out refreshed from her bath, took the time to do their own private catching up before allowing sleep to take them. They all managed to rest easy.
***
Time seemed to fly past and before anyone knew it Shigeki had gone and returned from his trip. Both of his parents knew the moment he was home because all of the ruckus behind the front door could only have come from him. Katsura had volunteered to be the one to slide that door open to greet her son and was surprised to see that he had not returned home alone. There with the happily buzzing boy was his uncle and said uncle's partner. A happy smirk slid onto her face right away upon recognizing them and she pulled Torune in particular in for a hug. While the former Root agent was momentarily tied up in greeting his sister in law, Fuu had to grab a hold of Shigeki's shirt collar to keep the boy from darting into the house like a madman and risk tripping and falling on his face. Or worse, running into one of his siblings as they were probably both around here somewhere. He shot a look back at the copper haired Yamanaka and only received a sly smirk in return.
"No you don't."
"You're lucky I don't bite."
"Be careful what you wish for, maybe I bite back."
When Katsura pulls back from her beloved brother in law, she puts a palm to her face and laments how forward her child could be. Though…he did get it from her, so maybe it was hypocritical to chastise him for it. Either way, her son was home and they had extra company that was very much welcome so she made sure to invite the two adults in a long with Shigeki. Her husband would probably be along shortly as well so it was just a waiting game until he joined them. Sure enough, it was only 45 minutes until Shino had made his way home and he too was pleasantly surprised to see his older brother and almost-in-law in the company of his family. Torune offered a gloved hand to his younger sibling, a gesture Shino was all too happy to return, and the two shared their first familial hold on what felt like forever.
"It was amazing, dad, I can't believe how beautiful it is over there." Shigeki could not wait to start delving into his tales.
"Don't let him fool you, he got himself into plenty of trouble. Scrapped with Darui himself. I'm actually impressed with this bold little bastard."
Katsura's eyes went wide and she turned to her beaming son. "You started shit with the Raikage?"
"Just a friendly challenge. Obviously he beat me…but he gave me something to bring back home for my forwardness. Right now it's in my Academy locker but I'll show you tomorrow."
"What is it?"
"A sword." He's all too proud of himself while announcing this. "And I got to see something else really cool too!"
"He's talking about the Eight Tails. We ran into Lord Bee while touring around the village and he let out Gyuuki to see the entire class. I've never seen my nephew speechless before." Though it's subtle, everyone can see a smile on Torune's face as he speaks.
"I know you said Lord Hokage has one of those Bijuu things too…but I've never seen it before. I want to see it now."
Shigeki babbles on happily about everything he had seen and done in the 10 days he was away from home. Both his siblings are awestruck themselves at his tales and Katsura can tell that the two of them are probably hoping to have the chance to go to another village someday too during their time as students. She, too, hopes they get that chance. It had really lit up Shigeki's life and that made her overjoyed for him. All of her babies deserved the opportunity to experience unbridled joy and nuance like this. She's also happy that at the moment the three of them are locked in a hot debate about Kumo food vs Konoha food because it allows her to tune in to what her husband, brother in law, and honorary in law are currently discussing amongst themselves. And it shocks her when she finds out just what it is.
"This has really helped me decide." Torune begins.
"Decide what?" She inquires, head cocked curiously.
"I'm not ready yet to take on a team. In a couple of years I think I'll be able to. But not yet."
Now Fuu picks up the slack. "But I'm going to this year. As long as Iruka is all right with it, I am more than ready to handle some Genin."
It's just their luck that Shigeki picks that moment to inject himself into the conversation with a petulant whine. "No fair! I want to be Uncle's student!"
Torune holds his hands up halfway in apology. "I'm sorry buddy, I just need more time. Maybe when your brother and sister have graduated. I'd be happy to show you some things in your downtime, though."
This drives the spike deeper into his heart. "That's even more not fair! They might get to be your students but I don't."
Fuu picks up the slack just then. "Maybe you'll be assigned to me instead. I'd be happy to deal with you and your ways."
"If that's the case then I'm warning you right now. I won't make it easy on you." If he had been an Inuzuka or an Izuno, he surely would have bared his teeth to rile up his almost-uncle.
"Challenge accepted. Now I hope Iruka DOES assign you to my team." The two of them lock gazes across the table from each other, the competitive spirit palpable. Everyone around them is caught between shaking their heads and chuckling.
"Oh this is either going to become the most embarrassing period in his life or the most enlightening." Katsura laughs. "Either way I feel like it'll do him some good. Give him a teacher as forward as he is."
"I'm not afraid of the big bad beetle child. In fact, I think it'll be fun."
It's an exchange that ropes the whole family into a good time catching up and sharing their hopes and dreams for graduation in a few months. Of course, the exams will not be easy, but no one doubts Shigeki has what it takes to pass. And he is in fact beginning to feel very okay with the idea of answering to Fuu as his next Sensei. It's not what he wanted at first, because Uncle Torune would have been an amazing option, but he's not as sad about losing out on that as he thought he would be. Besides. Maybe, in two more years, Torune would indeed be ready to take a team and have the honor of teaching either one or both of his niblings. There was much they could pick up from their wonderfully skilled uncle and just the thought of his brother teaching his children made Shino feel fond.
When the visit comes to a close, everyone happily sees off the pair of former Foundation nin and hopes that they can reunite again soon. Especially when the current school year is over and Shino has a lot more free time on his hands. Though, if Fuu does end up getting a Sensei role, he will probably become the much busier one. No matter. They'd find a way to make a gathering or two work in between everyone's obligations. The ability to even have these get togethers was something no one would take for granted every time thoughts of what was almost lost in the war resurface. Shino holds onto everyone precious in his life tightly and thanks the forces at work that he would have them around for a very long time to come. And as Shigeki goes on about both his trip to Kumo and his hopes for graduation, his father counts every lucky star in the sky that his children will never be at risk of losing what was most important to them (nor their opportunities in life) like his own generation did. Without war being the norm, they could grow up knowing and learning from their relatives and they could go anywhere they pleased in peace.
***
Graduation day comes for Shino's class and it blows his expectations clear out of the water. The teamwork and performance of every single one of his students, including the two left behind from previous years, nearly makes him cry. Boruto had had an extremely profound motivational effect on the lot of them and it carried the entire group of 18 children through to the triumphant end. They had done it, they had beaten even the likes of Lord Sixth (no easy task) in order to earn their titles as Genin of Konoha. The moment their adorned white cloth headbands transformed into proper Hidden Leaf headbands was the moment real tears began to flow from several kids. He finally saw the passing of an entire class for the first time since his first year and it made his heart feel fuller than ever. Shino is able to hold his head high when he returns home that day to report on how proud he was of everyone he'd spent the past several months instructing and guiding.
Shigeki, after congratulating his dad on everything, then had to face down his own graduation in four days time. His nerves thankfully did not get the best of him though they had certainly made a solid attempt to do so several times. When he noticed his older brother having conflicting feelings, Yasuo invited him out to the yard to mindlessly spar in order to relieve the stress and pressure. The older child of the family was too quick to agree and easily sank into the motions as soon as the rules were laid down. He let a cloud of insects fly and spent the next hour dueling with his little brother until the two had let off enough steam to carry them through the rest of the day unbothered. This routine became their norm every day up until it was time for Shigeki to face the music.
And face the music he sure did. He even got the chance to go toe to toe with his father as Shino had been asked to help proctor the exam. Shigeki faced the challenges presented to him like a champ and did not allow his nerves to overwhelm him for a second. He and all of his own classmates made it through to the end just like Boruto's group before them. Kakashi may not have been involved with this graduation, but that was all right with the Aburame boy. All he needed was to get over that hill and earn his place as an official Genin. The feel of the headband, the weight of it around his forehead was a sensation that he simply couldn't put into words. Shino, Katsura, Niwa, and Yasuo were tremendously proud of the boy for sticking to his guns and passing with flying colors. His mother had even made him a selection of his favorite desserts afterwards to celebrate the amazing job her boy had some becoming a full fledged Shinobi.
The final hurdle came in the form of being assigned to an official team. One by one the others around him were grouped up and told to meet their Jounin in another room until his name had finally been called. With him would be Kiba's daughter Inoe and a quietly observant but usually friendly Hyuuga girl by the name of Meisu. When they arrived in the room labeled with the number 11, the sight that greeted the new trio was one Shigeki felt was inevitable. Yellow eyes and copper hair, a tall stature, and the undeniable aura of self assured strength. Yamanaka Fuu. Destiny had seen to it that his almost-uncle would be the one overseeing his progress from here on out and he could not find a single argument against it. The two shared another look, yellow locking onto green, and the mutual competitive fire was ignited. Shigeki grinned broadly and set his hopes high for everything he would do and see and experience with his teammates and their Sensei from then on out.

Shino x Reader x Kiba Love Triangle Headcanons
𓆃 Passive aggressive! It will destroy this team!
𓆃 Because neither of them think the other is good enough for you and aren't going about things in the right manner. Kiba is immature and crass! Shino is judgmental and never speaks his mind when it’s important!
𓆃 They both stumble upon their mutual fondness of you by accident and sort of just assume it's a rivalry (mostly Kiba's fault).
𓆃 Kiba will outright say that he's into you, professing his plans to woo you out loud to Shino. Perhaps he'll babble on about what kinds of restaurants you might like or what the likelihood is that he could win you over with one of the Inuzuka hounds.
𓆃 And all it takes is one (1) snarky remark from Shino for them to both realize what's happening.
𓆃 "One whiff of this cologne, and I promise this date is guaranteed!" Kiba may say. Or perhaps, "After we've gone on our first date, it's smooth sailing to a pretty wedding. I think my clan name would be very complimentary, don't you think?"
𓆃 All it takes is one, "What's the scent? Wet dog?" or "Yeah, because everyone wants their last name to be 'dog mound'" and it's all over.
𓆃 They'll admit that they are interested in you to each other, but then in like a really hilarious way they'll try to talk each other out of it.
𓆃 Shino will bring up that Kiba never had an interest in relationships, to which Kiba will say, "I never said that!" and Kiba will assert that Shino doesn't date, to which Shino will say, "Since when?"
𓆃 And because they've been on the same team since they were kids, they have this close relationship that they're grappling with as they constantly try to one-up each other.
𓆃 Shino is not above easedropping through his beetles, and Kiba isn't above completely interrupting Shino's interactions with you.
𓆃 This feud can and will spread to you and become a minor to a major inconvenience depending on how long it's been going on for.
𓆃 Trap them in a room and force them to make up and be buddies again... for your own sanity...
