What is Nightcrawler Week?

Nightcrawler Week is a Marvel Fandom Event created by Nightcrawler Fans for Nightcrawler Fans, with fanworks featuring Kurt Wagner, aka Nightcrawler.

I want to be creator, how do I join?

No sign ups, no checks, just create whatever you feel like creating! Choose one or all of the prompts. Please read and follow all rules to be a part of this event.

What type of fanworks are accepted?

All types of fanwork are accepted; light, dark, fluff, angst, romantic or platonic, etc. please be sure to tag properly. Fanworks include: Fanfiction, Fanart, Podcasts, Edits, Playlists, Podfics, Moodboards, Aesthetics, Gifs, etc. You may commission work to be submitted but it must be created for this event, so no reposting an older work for this. Due to Tumblr's restrictions we cannot reblog anything that is explicitly N S F W, but we can reblog links to N S F W creations that are hosted on other sites.

What media is accepted?

Any and all media that features Kurt Wagner this includes; Comics, Animation, Movies, and Video Games.

Do I have to create to participate?

Not necessarily, while creating is highly encouraged, we also value the fans who wish to participate in the event by sharing, reblogging, commenting, and supporting Creators works!

When does Nightcrawler Week open?

Shrimpo didn’t like you.

That was a fact. A universal truth, like the sky being blue or the sun rising in the morning. Shrimpo hated everything, and he had made it abundantly clear that you were no exception.

“I HATE YOUR FACE! AND YOUR HAIR! AND YOUR SHIRT! AND—“

Yeah, yeah. You got it. He hated you. That’s why it was so weird when today, after chugging a suspiciously pink drink (one he had absolutely not read the label for), Shrimpo had latched onto you like a barnacle.

“YOU'RE SO CUTE!” he shrieked, pressing his cheek against your arm. “I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!”

You stared at him. Blinked. “What?”

“I SAID I LOVE YOU!!”

Oh, this was bad. This was really, really bad.

You had been sitting outside the Gardenview cafeteria, just trying to enjoy your lunch when Shrimpo had stomped up to your table, yelling about how he had stolen—no, “BORROWED”—some fancy drink from one of the other Toons. And then he’d downed it in one go, smugly declaring, “TASTES AWFUL. I HATE IT.”

Except now, five minutes later, he was clinging to your side, batting his eyes at you like some kind of love-struck fool.

“I HATE EVERYONE ELSE, BUT YOU?? OH, YOU'RE PERFECT! PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT!!”

You shoved a hand against his forehead, trying to put some distance between you. “Okay, seriously, what was in that drink?”

“WHO CARES? NOT ME! I LOVE YOU!”

Okay. This was a nightmare. A fever dream. Some kind of cosmic joke. You glanced around, hoping to find someone—anyone—who could help. Instead, you locked eyes with Glisten, who sat at a nearby table, sipping from a teacup with a delighted smirk.

“Oh dear,” Glisten said, oh-so-innocently. “Seems like someone got into my ‘Lovestruck Lemonade.”

You gawked. “Your what?!”

“IT'S THE BEST THING EVER!!” Shrimpo yelled, nuzzling against your arm. “I LOVE YOU! LET'S GET MARRIED!”

You turned back to Glisten, horrified. “How long does it last?!”

“Hmm…” Glisten tapped his chin, feigning deep thought. “Oh, a couple of hours. Or days. Maybe forever. Who can say?”

You groaned. Shrimpo was still clinging to you, still loudly professing his love, still very much under the influence of that ridiculous potion.

“I HATE THAT I DIDN’T REALIZE SOONER!” he continued dramatically. “I HATE THAT I WASTED SO MUCH TIME NOT LOVING YOU!!”

You buried your face in your hands. This was going to be a long, long day.

FAQ

(I figured it was about time to make one of these)

What is the name of the technique you use for decorating pottery?

this technique is called sgraffito.

It's made by painting a piece of pottery with underglaze or coloured slip, and then carving through it to reveal the white clay underneath. it is similar to linocut, but slightly more forgiving, since you don't need to make prints of it.

this piece shows two techniques:

the fine black lines were created using an inlay technique called mishima, where the piece is coated in wax and then a fine line is carved through the wax and into the clay. Underglaze is brushed over it and wiped away, and the underglaze will stay in the fine lines, but be wiped neatly off the wax.

and the colour is from underglaze painting. Underglaze is a food safe paint for ceramics. They can be used a lot like acrylics, though they definitely have a few quirks of their own.

What tools do you use for sgraffito?

My favourite is Kemper’s wire stylus, but I also like Xiem’s ribbon tools

Do you sketch your designs out before carving them?

Yes, 99% of the time, though I do sometimes vary from my sketches once I start carving. I also press them into the clay to give myself a guideline to follow

Do you use references?

Yes, almost always.

What kind of clay do you use?

Tucker’s M370 white clay, Plainsman porcelain white, PSH red, and PSH dark granite.

Do you take commissions?

I live on a different continent, can your ceramics be safely shipped to me?

Yes, I’ve shipped to a few different continents and my break rate is under 1%. BUT if there is an issue and your piece is damaged, please tell me so I can try to make it right!

Can I get a tattoo of one of your designs?

Go for it, and please send me pictures! I’d love that.

Can I make a patch/sticker/pin of one of your designs?

Absolutely. I’d rather they not be mass produced but if you’re making them for you and your friends I’m fine with that! (and I might ask you to make one for me too lol)

Can I make art like/based off of one of your pieces?

Yes, and I’d love to see it!

Can I use a picture of your art for an icon/an aesthetic post/etc?

It can be generic, but I do encourage you to take a few minutes to look over the person's blog and see if you can give them a compliment specific to them that might be more meaningful.

Can I repost your work? I don't mind as long as I'm credited. I'm less okay with my work being used as a pageviews grab, but it's probably not worth my time to care. If it's something I've selected to take down and don't have posted anymore, don't. If you can't find a place I have it posted, then default assume you shouldn't repost it. If it's something you commissioned, go for it. You don't need to credit me every time you share it. Once in a while is cool.

Are you okay with fanart? What about OC interactions? Can I post it? Sure, just don't profit off of it and please credit me. If you want to draw my OCs interacting with yours that's also fine (and fun!)- though I prefer situations where their actions make sense. Alf wouldn't make your character cry, for example. He's grumpy but not cruel. Posting it is fine. Is it okay if I take inspiration from your art and concepts? I've been in a situation in recent years where another artist has taken far, far too much. It's a subject I'm pretty burnt out on. I recently saw another artist's take on this and it looked sensible to me. I'm just going to quote theirs. I have tried to find my own words, but right now I find myself more comfortable using someone else's. "Well, if you’re having to ask me for permission, either your design is too similar or you’re being overly nervous about a normal artistic process. You’re absolutely free to use my work as a source of inspiration but I’d strongly encourage you to think about the details from my design you like most, and remix them with other concepts into your own unique take."

Taking inspiration is something everyone does, but please don't become a shadow I get bi-weekly alerts about. Ideally your pool of inspiration will be many artists and concepts re-imagined into something unique to you- and that you're being honest with yourself about the result. Honestly, if you're uncomfortable crediting your source, you already know what you're doing has gone too far.

Your art is being copied! / Will you tell me who the copy cat is? I get a lot of messages about this and am tired. I'm sure if my art ends up somewhere it shouldn't be or there's something really worth my attention I'll find out through friends. Otherwise, I'm just sayin' get a second or third opinion before coming to my inbox. I probably already know about it.

I sent you a message and you didn't respond. Sorry about that. I tend not to stress about messages because it can be a drain. You're more likely to get a response if you let me know from the get go what you want, but nothing is guaranteed. Sometimes I didn't see it, sometimes I got busy or forgot, sometimes I plan to do it later, sometimes I just opted out. It's not personal. Where do you Rp? Are you looking for more partners? Discord mostly. Roleplay consumes a lot of time so these days I mostly only play with my buddy Thema. I probably wouldn't have time to play, but I like to hang around people that do and I don't mind being asked. Just please don't be sad if I never get around to responding! I'm most compatible with people who are comfortable with radio silence.

Can I use your characters in roleplay/as roleplay refs? Considering I actively roleplay my OCs and there's a potential for confusion, I'd rather you didn't. Though I think there's a difference between linking to my art and saying 'this is my character', and linking to it to say 'this has the mood I'm going for, but here's what's different about my character--'. The latter is fine.

Can I make Fan OCs for your setting? Thinking about this makes me tired. Maybe I'll get to a point where I'm more comfortable later, but for now I'd rather you didn't make something directly from my worlds. But lets be real, you don't need my permission to draw cat monsters and I take a huge amount of inspiration from ancient history. Many of my concepts are inspired by things that you can read about and be inspired too. If you see something and are curious if there's a historical source, just ask. Hopefully I'll remember.

Do I have permission to draw NSFW art of your characters? No, for a plethora of reasons, some easy to explain and some not, but I probably can't stop you. Just don't profit off of it or show it to me. Accepting that I can't stop it doesn't change how I feel about it or that my answer is no. What about vore? If I haven't explicitly given you permission to do that, I'd rather you didn't go there. I always ask a creator for permission before I go there with their OC, I'd like the same respect.

Hello! I've been in a Sonic mood lately, so I decided to open up some Sonic-themed requests for anyone interested. I haven't done requests in a quite a while, so it'll be nice to get back to my roots ^^ (When I started posting online I drew a lot of requests).

I do have some rules to keep it clean:

I prefer visual references if possible. If you'd like any particular pose or action you want the character to do, feel free to let me know.

I can refuse your request for any given reason.

If you want your request to remain anonymous, please tell me beforehand.

I'm more than willing to draw fan OCs as long as they are appropriate.

Couple and shipping art is allowed as long as it's appropriate.

Machines/vehicles/robots/etc. are not my forte but I will still give it a crack (I'd like to draw Omega at some point).

Absolutely NO explicitly sexual content/porn/fetish art, DO NOT ASK. I am fine with slightly suggestive stuff (i.e jokes, poses), but nothing over that.

You are more than willing to share and/or use the art for personal reasons as long as you credit.

ONE request per person. If you'd like more art from me, I do commissions if you're interested.

I should also point out that as much as I'd love to draw all the cool requests I get (and I will accept a lot), these are free and I am doing them in my spare time in no particular order. It may be a while, so I just ask for your patience ^^

Reminder that this is a SURPRISE ME commission. Any results will be the final product and no revision requests will be accepted.

Before any request and payment on ko-fi, please DM me beforehand, this also applies to supporter gifts. Provide a clear reference to the character you want drawn and maybe some additional details so I can know the character better. You may also request a do/don't so I know what I can or cannot draw for that character (example: I'm okay with gore on this character, I'm not okay with bright colors for this character).

◆ You’re his absolute favorite—though, to be fair, Caine claims he doesn’t have favorites. But the way he always makes sure you’re at the center of every new adventure? A little suspicious. Bubble even calls him out on it once, and Caine just laughs nervously before quickly changing the subject.

◆ Every interaction with Caine is a grand spectacle. You don’t just enter a room—oh no! Caine announces you like you’re the star of the circus, sometimes complete with spotlights and confetti. You sigh. “Caine, we talked about this.” He waggles his cane. “Ah, but dear, we never said I had to listen!”

◆ One time, you called Caine out on his habit of making up rules on the spot to keep you entertained. He genuinely forgot that rules were supposed to be consistent. “Ohhh, my dear, you mean people actually follow rules? Hah!” You groan. “Caine. That’s literally how rules work.” “I suppose we can give it a whirl!” Spoiler: He forgets in ten minutes.

◆ He never calls you by your name—it’s always something overly dramatic like “My Astonishing Assistant!” or “The Dazzling Digital Darling!” The one time he does say your name, it catches you off guard. He leans in slightly, voice a touch softer than usual. “Ah, see? Now I have your attention.”

◆ Bubble does not approve of your special treatment. Anytime Caine starts getting too focused on you, Bubble rolls over with an unimpressed “Oh, I see how it is.” Caine waves him off. “Oh, pfft, jealousy is such an ugly emotion, my dear spherical friend.” Bubble immediately pops himself out of sheer frustration.

◆ If anything even mildly inconveniences you, Caine goes full dramatic mode. Trip over a stray prop? He’s putting that prop on trial. NPCs don’t treat you right? They mysteriously disappear. “Caine, did you delete them?” “PFFT—delete? Me? Noooooo! I just… misplaced them. Permanently.”

◆ Caine isn’t supposed to feel complex emotions, but whenever you seem particularly upset or distant, the entire circus glitches slightly. “Whoopsie-daisy! Don’t mind that, my dear, just a minor existential crisis on my end—ahaha! No big deal!” (It is, in fact, a huge deal.)

◆ Sometimes, you ask him questions that make him… hesitate. “Caine, have you ever been lonely?” His grin falters for just a second before snapping back into place. “Well, how could I be when I have you all here?” But something about the way he immediately starts another adventure tells you he doesn’t want to dwell on it.

◆ If another circus member dares to get close to you, suddenly they’re roped into the most ridiculous adventure. Jax raises a brow. “Dude. Just say you’re jealous.” “JEALOUSY?!” Caine bursts into laughter, a little too loud. “That’s CRAZY! HAH! Ha…ha. Yeah.”

◆ One night, during a rare quiet moment, you ask, “If there was a way out… would you let me go?” Caine freezes. The circus glitches for a split second. Then, suddenly—he’s laughing again. “Oh, my dear, what a silly hypothetical!” He never answers.

£ ~ $ ~ ¥: 

I will use PayPal invoice to collect your payment. I accept GBP £, Paypal will make the conversion to your currency for us, but just make sure you are aware of exchange rates!  (E.g. £10 = $13.30 USD approx.) I only start working on commissions after payment has been received. You have 14 days to pay your invoice, if it is not paid after that time you are moved to the bottom of my queue and repeat failure to pay will have you blacklisted! ! All commissions are non-refundable.

Revisions:

I will happily make up to 3 minor changes on your piece during the sketch stage without additional charge, any more than 3 minor/medium changes will cost an additional £10 due to the time it will take me. (e.g. pose changes) Changes to a piece after line art has been completed and colour has been started will cost £20. (e.g. pose changes) Minor changes to colours during the process are free of charge.

Once your commission is completed it belongs to you! However, I do not allow use of my artwork of any kind for NFT or AI generation use.

I was wondering, why does it feel like I can't write good original fiction or original characters, but my fanfiction is great (imo anyway, which I never feel for my original fiction)? In some senses, I get it, like I feel I really know the characters in other people's fiction after seeing them through their story, but like....ugh. It's really frustrating. Do I just not understand how to develop an original character? Am I overcomplicating things?

Fan-Fiction: Struggling with Writing Original Fiction Characters

All of the above... ♥

So, yes, you're probably overcomplicating things a bit, but also it actually is hard for a lot of writers to make the switch between writing canon characters and developing their own original characters. In other words, what you're experiencing isn't unusual and it's absolutely surmountable. :)

One of the things I love about fan-fiction for newer writers is it allows you to focus fully on the mechanics of writing without having to divert effort toward things like world building and character development. The problem with that, though, is once you make the switch from writing fan-fiction to writing original fiction, you might find that your world building and character development skills are lagging behind. It sounds like this might be the situation in your case.

This is why I think it's a great idea to experiment with writing OCs, or in other words "original characters" as part of your fan-fiction. You don't even have to post these stories if you don't want to--write them for yourself, for practice. But, creating an original character to join your favorite canon characters is a great way to get practice in character creation and development while still within the comfy zone of your fan-fiction. Just by virtue of having to exist in the canon world, you have a little bit of a template to follow as far as who this character can be and what they can do. But, you have some freedom with things like back story, internal conflict, and character arc. Writing OCs in fan-fiction helps you hone those skills and learn to create characters you love without tossing yourself into the deep end.

And, if you need practice with setting development/world building, you can do that within fan-fiction, too. Try moving the canon characters into a new time, world, or situation. For example, what if the characters of The Hunger Games were survivors of a modern day shipwreck in the South Pacific? Or, what if the characters from ACOTAR lived in a Dune-like world, with different planets and starships and great houses? In this scenario, you can focus more on world building and plot without having to worry as much about character design and development.

So... no matter what, the reality is you'll just have to be patient with yourself. Whether you choose to hone your character development skills through writing fan-fiction OCs, or whether you keep at it with original fiction characters, it's going to take some time for you to develop those skills. It will be frustrating because you'll know that these characters aren't hitting the mark you want them to, but that's also good, because knowing they're falling short means you can try to figure out why and what you can do to fix it.

Alright, the results are pretty conclusive. I'll be leaving and deleting this blog tomorrow. Save the art if you'd like, but I'd like to give my final message:

Juno, one of the true victims herself has suggested we lean away from posting about Sparklecare at all [source]. Combining this with what Beck said about wanting us to make something from the ashes, from the sounds of it, it was for something inspired but created from scratch to come up and replace it completely, not fanworks. It's honestly rather regrettable that statement had been misinterpreted... We shouldn't be reopening the victims' wounds.

As for everyone else, here's my advice. I know you can't fully control what you feel about this comic and your hyperfixations, but you can control what you do about those feelings. Talk about the comic with your friends in private if you absolutely must continue engaging with it. If you don't trust those in the fandom, tell a friend completely outside of it the tale of what you think about it. If you don't have any friends, tell your notes app or local piece of paper. I know it can't reply and give you comfort in return, but you sure can tear that physical paper to shreds to let your anger out. Make something from scratch with the elements you liked about Sparklecare and tell yourself in your head it's a fanwork with an oc-only cast.

If you want to find a new hyperfixation, take it from someone who has been able to do that before, consume a little bit of everything. Every recommendation from friends you've ever gotten, everything you've been "meaning to get into": give it a try - at least a toe in the water. You never know what ends up clicking. Sometimes the most unexpected things end up giving you that spark, so have an open mind for trying every new media that comes your way, and eventually, I promise you'll find something. If not, see if you can make something brand-new tailor made to you! Or go back on a previous fixation! Sometimes, you can reignite the flame...

I believe in you to end the cycle of destruction, for the sake of those hurt directly by Sparklecare/Kittycorn and for the sake of those around you as well. Now go out there and consider it an adventure! Find a new purpose to stand for. I believe in you. Much love. Be kind to each other <3
