I want to see a Sword Art Online style death game from the outside perspective

I want to see the horror of players' loved ones bursting into their rooms and realizing that someone they know is now trapped in a game where they could die for real. People who got the game but haven't played it yet getting hundreds of phonecalls and messages begging them to check the news and not play the game.

I want to see the mad scramble to locate everyone trapped and get them on life support. Around 10000 people just went into a coma with no warning. They have a week at most to locate the players' bodies before they die of dehydration if they're lucky.

I want to see hackers trying to break into the servers and into a NerveGear to restore the log out option or disable the NerveGear's ability to kill people.

And for some SAO abridged exclusive content, I want to see Suguha being forced to sit with the last thing she said to her brother.

"You're going to die in there one day, and trust me, nobody will fucking care!"

Just... just imagine having to sit with that. For two years. While your brother is in an VR Death Game™.

It's been a hot minute since I rewatched the first half of the series, but I'm pretty sure Abridged!Kirito's murderous rage at being told he sounds like a girl and Suguha's refusal to associate with anything remotely feminine in the traditional way come from the same source. Or, at the very least, are directly correlated.

Like just ughhhhhhhh - Suguha and Kazuto becoming unaligned for just a moment, just a second of him going faster, farther than her - and her sticking in out! Trying so hard to reach out! And him not doing the same because he doesn't even notice, and that abandonment twisting under years and years and years, of feeling unwanted and unloved, and feeling safer when she's unbearable, because she cannot afford that vulnerability again. And then Kirito coming back, older and wiser and more willing to spend time on the people he loves because of SAO where he got so close to losing them, and her not being able to fix these two versions of him together because they aren't! They aren't the same person! But he can't tell her, can't show her how he's changed because she cannot let either one of them be soft around one another.

And from Kirito's side, all he sees is his relationship with his baby sister grow strained under the weight of years, of her slowly turning into something awful that he thinks hates him, because what else could there be? Literally what else?

And her still dragging him to the kendo mat years later, despite the fact that he hates it. That being literally the first scene of them together.

SAOA's new ep about two siblings with a hella toxic relationship realising they had never really hated each other and instead were driven apart by decisions made by their family (seexist grandpa and mom worried about her son's asthma respectively), then componded by their respective personalities causing miscommunication, and exacerbated by minimal parental oversight, that is so entrenched in their psychs that both assume them other is out to get them at every point, yet they both WANT to make it better but at every turn taking those first steps seems impossible,,, was really neat!

Unfortunately it has also harrowingly reminded me that the original plot was about the sister's insest crush 💀
