Honestly, I'm super living for all the people who are new to Trigun and just being able to watch from the sidelines at their increasing levels of horror once they start to realize all the bullshit Vash has been through.

The Thing I see the most in manga Vash, as it differs from both anime and that stupid movie I love- is his anger. And boy do I love that anger. Vash is not rolling over for the real villains. For petty crooks and lowlifes and the type of rabble he generally finds himself dealing with, sure... I mean, it depends on the level of threat. For someone who is out to do harm for the sake of it, well, that kinda thing really pisses him off.

I love a lot of things here ... Raidei is having a religious experience fighting Vash, admiring and complimenting his skills. Unlike a lot of protag types, Vash is not flattered or glad in the least. He is disgusted and uncomfortable with this sentiment, and yet he is still trying to deescalate. That is, until Raidei explains he is simply here to cause great suffering and goes on to threaten Vash's home and the people who live there. That's when things get serious, and that's when his anger truly reveals itself. I think... In these moments, as we saw with Monev, Vash really wants to kill people sometimes. It would be easier. It would be cleaner. It would even feel good, in the moment. But he knows not to act on that anger. He knows what is simple and clean today can lead to centuries of hardship and ultimately more death. (Thinking about the Big Fall and another smaller incident in the manga.)

Vash does not only act for the moment, but considers how his actions today will echo through the future.

last semester i wasn’t doing well in a very important class i needed to pass in order to graduate so i was working my ass off writing essays and shit and every time i started slacking i would bring up this image and i’d say “ah fuck you’re right vash i really need to keep working” and then i’d write for another two hours and i actually managed to pass and graduate and i honestly don’t know if i would’ve been able to without this picture. thank you vash

Vash is not as selfless as he appears to be. I have found him to always act in his own personal interest, though this looks different with him than in most characters. Because Vash cares about other people to the point he is not just willing, but prefers to be hurt in their stead. He has this martyr complex that goes on for miles, yet he doesn't really want to die for anyone. He would if he had to, but he fights very hard to stay alive, in spite of it all.
