#svsss #scum villian self saving system #shen qingqiu #shen yuan #the fact that people think scum villain #-a series that examines and criticizes common tropes in fiction-#is somehow against criticism or being a little hater is wild to me #especially since shen qingqiu never gets punished for being a hater #heck- he's still a little hater by the end of the series #he mostly gets punished for treating life like a play and like he and the people around him are characters #(or in other words- he suffers for denying his own wants and emotions and his own sense of empathy)#I think some of y'all underestimate how much writing/art is inspired by creaters being little haters #like example off the top of my head-#the author of Iron Widow has been pretty vocal about the book being inspired by their hatred of Darling in the Franxx #I think my interpretation of Shen Yuan's transmigration is also supported by the fact that this series is an examines writing processes #side note- though i understand why people say Shen Yuan is lazy and think its a valid take it still doesnt sit right with me #i am probably biased because my own experiences with chronic pain and depression and isolation #but ya- i dont think Shen Yuan is lazy so much as he is deeply lonely and feels purposeless after denying parts of himself for 20ish years #like yall remember the online fandom boom from covid right?#being stuck completely alone in bed while feeling like shit for 20 days straight does shit to your brain #the fact that no one came to check on him + he wasn't exactly upset about leaving anyone behind supports the isolation interpretation too #+in the skinner demon arc he describes his life of being a faker/inability to stop being a faker now that he's Shen Qingqiu #as “so bland he's tempted to throw salt on himself” and “all he could do is lay around and wait for death” (<-paraphrasing)#bro wants to be doing stuff but is stuck in paralysis from repeatedly following scrips made by other people #another point on “Shen Yuan isn’t lazy” is just the sheer amount of studying that man does #also he did graduate college- how lazy can he really be #he doesnt know what hes doing but he at least tries to actively train his students #and he actually works on improving his own cultivation + spends quite a bit of time preping the mushroom body thing #+he's experiencing bouts of debilitating chronic pain throughout all this #but ya tldr: Shen Yuan's transmigration is an encouragement to write and not a punishment and also i dont think its fair to call him lazy

okay i know the amazing digital circus JUST came out but i dont CARE i have a CHARACTER and i want you to LOOK AT THEM!!!!!!!!

his entire backstory will probably be disproved in future episodes. but. i was thinking about a character that looks eerily similar to being obstructed. and then i thought about it being a dog. and then i thought how would the dog get there. then this was created

full art and a bit more backstory under cut 👍

so my little backstory i’ve concocted for this little guy is that he literally is just a dog. one day their owner buys a mysterious headset* online or something and thinks it’d be cute to put it on their dog. as a silly little thing!!! like “ooh hehe look a dog in a headset <3” but then they put it on and their dog turns to thin air!! poof!! gone!!

the dog turns up at the Amazing Digital Circus looking like they just came in all obstructed (which im sure is almost impossible) but nope!!! just a little wheel dog boy!!!

and the ironic thing is this boy is probably immune to being obstructed as he is, in fact, a dog.

* I KNOW I KNOW ITS HEAVILY IMPLIED ITS A VR TYPE HEADSET but 1) i am a dumbass 2) it wouldn’t really make sense to have his owner put on a whole ass vr headset obstructing their vision for hehe cute photo. idk maybe that’s just me

ALSO. i know in the summary of the digital circus it’s about a rouge AI (caine) torturing humans. so idk maybe his owner was supposed to be the one tortured forever but put the headset on their dog. I DUNNO!!! there’s a lot up in the air because the pilot LITERALLY RELEASED TODAY

i haint watched the dang chibisode and idk if ill actually watch it with sound on sdfjk but i have a hurt feeling about them casually imbuing perry with speech for a one off gag because the idea that he needs to talk to communicate is fake. we had 4 seasons of wacky magic hijinks cartoon where perry never needed verbal speech to communicate. they couldve done this gag at any point in the show but they didn't, and the fact that they didn't felt significant. perry's muteness is such a core part of his character, to me, to the way i conceive of him/write him. i don't wanna overreact to a goofy little side cartoon (even tho i'm doing it anyway) but it's still the characters, and it still upsets me! ok that's it i've said my piece

Why is every techno human design I've ever seen is white as bird shit. Why's he a generic pretty boy twink. Why are you incorporating the royal outfitry as is.

Why isn't Techno (the character) a man of color who killed a ruler and now wears their clothes as a symbol permanently etched into his aesthetic of what he is willing to do in the name of Anarchy.

His crown should be stained with blood, dried and brown to indicate how old it is. His mask (should one give him a mask) should be a more traditional face cover to protect his true identity not some prissy fucking masquerade ball mask. His robe shouldn't fit him, it's too small with patches stitched in where it's torn, and underneath should be overalls, a bog standard plain shirt, workmans clothes, dirty and musty, but longer lasting than the robe had ever been.

I'm not even trying to make a racism thing (Though I dunno, maybe some of y'all should examine that, it's been too long since I've interacted with the fandom, I wouldn't know) but like, as a artist why is Techno's humanized interpretations so often like the dictionary definition of privilege, why do y'all make his designs so opposed to his character.

Oh, so, like, the entire first season's establishment of the characters and their interactions don't actually matter in Helluva Boss. Okay, cool.

Like, I get that characterization develops over time and the writers come up with new ideas and places they want to take the story, but. So much of the Stolas/Blitzø stuff recently isn't character development: it's retconning.

#I'm just salty because i was heavily invested in the unhealthy dynamic as i interpreted it #instead of the unhealthy dynamic the show decided on.#uhhhh. yeah I'll throw this in the crit tag #helluva boss critical #I'm mostly just not invested in this show anymore. alas! but i do still very much enjoy the art and animation style #every time there's shiny glowy eyes i go 😍#anyway it does just take a tiny amount of editing to have this come across how i would very much enjoy #where Stolas is just. hypocritical #he wants love and a relationship so badly #and that's such an interesting characterization and I'm here for it!#if we also just. acknowledge the way he was SO obsessed with sex while Blitzø was awkward about it #like there is a lot of mention of that - Blitzø says he thought that's what Stolas wanted from him #and is confused about why things are changing!! (i love it so much)#but the show seems to take Stolas's side instead of allowing that 'yeah‚ he doesn't recognize how his internal emotions were never seen‚#because all Blitzø sees are Stolas's external actions - exactly the problem that Stolas is having with Blitzø not communicating!'#AND i still think there should be more emphasis on 'hey yeah it was really fucked up to manipulate Blitzø into sex like he did'#the crystal didn't magically fix it and they should have issues with Blitzø not understanding his worth to Stolas #because from his POV: Stolas really does only want him for sex‚ is paying him with access to the book and human realm‚#and has repeatedly sexualized him And seemed ashamed of it when other important people knew #(compared to how he acted towards Blitzø around other Imps) (which makes it seem like he doesn't care about what Imps think at all)#Stolas can be sad and his emotions are interesting but not when all of the fandom I'm seeing is taking his side #me at all times always: i think these characters/this ship should be worse!!!

Genuinely about to block the fallout tag and move on with my life cuz the last week has been absolutely insane. I was more so excited for the show due to the idea that it'd bring in new and old fans alike and that the community would finally have new content to have fun with and analyse but all it did is start pointless arguing and "my fallout media is holier than thine" attitudes that has made just existing on tumblr depressing and miserable cuz every third post i get reccomended is one group tearing into the other because of x y or z or all at once. I have never in my life seen people being so agressive and combatitive over a franchise or piece or media they claim to love.

#my favourite part of this fandom has been the incredibly creative takes on the lore and characters and peoples own characterd #and i loved everyone sharing their own ideas and interpretations and art #and it seems like that legit just evaporated as soon as the show dropped #and devolved into bickering #and its genuinely so miserable #im still insane about my own ocs and the game so its not like im about to never look at it again but like. jesus christ
