Hozier (Night 2 Forest Hills Stadium) on Palestine & Human Rights
“I think people are genuinely, at their core, good and I’ll die on that fucking hill… it doesn’t matter who you are, it’s doesn’t matter where you are in the world, you wouldn’t wanna see the kind of genocidal violence that we’re seeing”
“and that would mean wanting to see Palestine free from occupation, free from occupational violence, free to pursue meaningful statehood, self-determination and statehood, I mean that sincerely.”

I can't believe trump is winning the elections...
#like... for real?#I was reading about a woman pregnant with twins in texas#who needed a selective reduction i.e. to abort one twin#because he wasn't going to survive#and the doctors went 'no we can't do that'#which meant they would ALL die. both twins and their mom#she managed to get the abortion done out of texas but like#how insane is this??#it drives me mad#I'm worried about the anti-abortion stance spreading#I mean it's not like it's not already there in europe#see Ireland until recently. see Italy#where abortion is legal on paper but doctors can still refuse to perform it#on religious grounds#which is INSANE. insane#omg I was discussing it with my aunt ages ago and I was like#they shouldn't have that option#and she went 'oh so you think doctors should be forced to perform abortions'#NO I think if you don't want to perform abortions don't become a fucking gyno?? maybe??#did they point a gun to their head?? aren't there lots of other specialties they could've gone for??#like what am I missing here. help#it's not even about religion though for most which makes it even more infuriating#oh I went off on a tangent here. sorry#reproductive rights#us politics#donald trump

Egyptian journalist and author Mona Eltahawy once referred to the global systems that control and endanger women as the world's "oldest form of occupation."
Ever since hearing her speak in Dublin, I wanted to explore that thought in a piece.

like i get why we're not diving into the Incredibly Influential field that is irish feminist science fiction of the 20th century. but ALL our classes have been focused on american history and thats not a good sign re: my colonial gender essay proposal being accepted
#i knowww theyre important however. can we talk abt ireland#like last week we did a thing abt fuckinnnn birth control and stuff. come onnn open goal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#for those not from ireland: birth control was illegal until 1980 over here (thanks catholic church). like you couldnt sell condoms til 1980#abortion was illegal until 20 fucking 18 and it was a referendum and 1/3 people voted no#and go look up magdalene laundries/mother and baby homes

It's been forty years since Ann Lovett, aged 15, died after giving birth inside a religious grotto, underneath a statue of the Virgin Mary. May she and all other women and girls who have died as a result of misogyny and patriarchy rest in peace. We can never underestimate the importance of women's liberation, and how it is an ongoing battle for women all over the world. Ann should still be alive today, but her life was snatched from her by a misogynistic society which treated women as lesser, held them to higher standards than men, allowed abuse to be flourish and stripped women of autonomy in more ways than one.

#feminism#pro choice#abortion rights#ireland#ann lovett#never forget#im NEVER gonna fw patriarchal religions#EVER. just learn about the amount of women whose lives have been ruined by them.#youre not convincing me that im inferior just for being born female#god isn't male#the irish state killed ann lovett. the catholic church killed her.#grma to foclóir.ie for the gaeilge. it translates as 'may she rest in peace'

I've been waiting to vote this fucking thing out of the constitution since I learned of it's existence in history class, it better go ahead. I, for one, would love to debate anyone who thinks this shite belongs in the 21st century
#i missed out on voting in the marriage equality blasphemy and abortion referendums#I've been legally able to vote for almost 3 years and there's been nothing#ireland#irish politics#the work done by people caring for family members should 100% be recognised and protected in the constitution#but the language should be gender neutral

Just saw that Olivia Rodrigo has partnered with the National Network of Abortion Funds to share a part of ticket proceeds from her NA tour with them. It doesn’t say how big a share, but I applaud her for doing this and for having been outspoken about abortion rights.

That's fantastic - funding travel for abortion is incredibly important.
I don't know how much I've told this story on here - but in 1977 New Zealand past what was then the most restrictive legislation in OECD, which closed all abortion clinics days before Christmas. Within a week the first organised, supported flights went to Australia - they were called SOS - Sisters Overseas Service. There was massive fundraising and support to ensure as many women as possible were able to access abortion - despite the complete and utter fuckwits in parliament and government. That work was incredibly important and it mattered so much - and I'm in absolute awe of the many different things people did in those years. I'm furious that that work needs to be done in the US now in this way.
#I really recommend 'how the yes was won'#podcast about the abortion struggle in Ireland#the episode about the phone number - incredible

9. Of the Pregnant Woman Blessed and Spared the Birth-Pangs
"1. With a strength of faith most powerful and ineffable, [Brigit] blessed a woman who, after a vow of virginity, had lapsed through weakness into youthful concupiscence, as a result of which her womb had begun to swell with pregnancy. In consequence, what had been conceived in the womb disappeared and she restored her to health and to penitence without childbirth or pain. 2. And, in accordance with the saying 'All things are possible to those who believe', she went on working countless miracles every day without ever proving anything impossible."
-Cogitosus, Life of Saint Brigit (translated by Sean Connolly and J.M. Picard, 1987)
This translation is in my personal files and I can send a copy to you upon request. If you want to thank me, consider a donation to The Brigid Alliance.

Was tearing up at work today listening to a podcast talking about Savita Halappanavar, even though I already knew about it. How anyone could listen to her story and still be anti-abortion is beyond me
#abortion was only legalised here in 2018#2018!!#and her death (could nearly call it murder actually) spurred on the movement for legalisation#I implore people to look into it#i hope her husband and her family are doing okay#instead of condemning Ireland they campaigned for abortion laws so what happened to Savita would never happen to anyone in Ireland again#pro choice#Savita Halappanavar
