👀 desire and fear for frost?

desire: What's one thing your OC wants more than anything in the world? Are they open with that desire? Why or why not? What would they do to fulfill it?

at the beginning of the hunt, the only thing they really care about is being "cured" of their "mental affliction" (bipolar disorder). they feel like a tremendous burden on others, and it's caused a lot of problems in their interpersonal relationships. but they don't... tend to tell people this. frost is very, very paranoid and expects to be betrayed and attacked for his very existence, so he's not the most open fellow. as the night goes on, however, frost becomes more concerned with permanently ending the hunt, as he got quite attached to a few people who lost their lives over it. and ascending to godhood is one way to not feel like a burden to others...

fear: What is your OC's greatest fear? What do they do when confronted with it? Are they open with their fear, or do they hide it away?

funny enough, that "moon's haunted" meme fits frost pretty well! in addition to the "everyone is out to kill me" (it's yharnam, so that's not unfounded) paranoia, frost is also convinced the moon specifically harbors him ill will. so the one reborn and the moon presence are particularly frightening fights for them. after they get done freezing, they go into fight mode, and become erratic. i think they hit mania right before the fight with the one reborn, so their mood sort of wavers. like double dutch jump rope or whatever. and after a certain point, hiding that fear becomes impossible.

BELOVED MARINUS… their story is still in flux but it’s basically the tombs of atuan except if it was in pandyssia. they’re the outsider’s special little guy they’re god’s favorite they are so so scared all the time. and they love whales and the ocean. it is their first day out of doors and papá forbade mirrors lest they fall prey to vanity.

☕ translations of your favourite books

Inch resting question, Small R, you know I'm very opinionated about translations I love you!!

Here I have some considerations about two of my favourite books:

Bacchae: I got my first little copy of this tragedy when I was fifteen and I am very fond of it. It's in Italian, has a very nice and poetic translation which is probably my favourite because it manages to keep the greecity of the original text in a way that I prefer to others. I don't know exactly how to put this feeling into words (surely there is an academic way to speak of it), but to me there is nothing more beautiful than to be able to feel the original language even in translation, and for me the best translation for Greek and Latin literature maintain their character in the way of structure and vocabulary. This is by the way the main reason I found the English translations I read so far disappointing. The one I usually refer to (forgot the translator and publisher, wow) is not half bad, but there's this incredibly annoying addition of stage directions!! Aurrgh!! And to name names I don't like Anne Carson's work, which I may be wrong but it's more a rewriting than a translation? Surely it reads like such. Her Bacchae is frustratingly bad: there are cuts everywhere and I cannot say this enough the poetification of the text makes it plain and ugly. Way to wipe away once again the idea of god-induced madness staining a man and being passed by the touch like a disease. Great, truly.

Note to the People: if anyone has a good English or German translation to recommend please do!!

Crime and Punishment: This one I needed to actually read from several translation at a time because this one single Italian translation was at traits not very good. But as the second one I got (super funk edition with drafts and notes written by the Dostoevskij himself!!) was better, it didn't offer the super interesting notes about the original Russian text and the explanation of the many clever word plays and puns, which is sad. Two examples: in the first translation a note indicates that "Dostoevskij uses the recurring adjective dikij, which properly means wild, but in his writing it assumes the meaning of extraordinary, fearsome, delirious, etc." it's a little extra but lets the reader appreciate a peculiar choice of words that would be otherwise lost; in the second translation "batjuška" is actually translated into "dear". Little things that make me a little sad, because once again it missed the uh russian-ity? Whatever. Thank God I'm not mentally well and kept switching in between books.

At this time I also picked an English edition, but it was unfortunately Garnett's and we all know that's not good. Characters in the middle of 19th century St. Petersburg speaking like British dandies? No thanks. Pevear and Vocholonskij's work in translation is far better and in general they are my favourite couple for English editions.

I also have two different translations to German, which I have quickly read without brainwork behind it.

im gonna answer this one about shallot tabris my beloved elf. she doesnt have experience courting anyone considering her marriage was arranged and beyond that she hasnt really had an interest in marriage. but when she does start courting its based off of stories she heard from her mother. unfortunately orslesian, so its a lot of Her waiting to be wooed and courted. however shes not someone to wait, so she flirts, makes her interest known, and when theyre reciprocated she does little acts of service like finding flowers to give because they remind her of you, or offering to take the watch shift you hate.

HMM im a cat person myself but id have to pick the dogheads here. khan is an interesting character to me on a level notkin just doesn’t have… although Hopefully i can reassess that after playing p2? and the dogheads did try to collect shmowders so other kids couldn’t hurt themselves. also i respect the craftsmanship needed to make doghead masks. also i might be simping for the polyhedron a little

Hey! Thank you so much for the ask! Since I already did Lara, I’ll do Rubin for this one!

How I feel about this character: Oh I love him so much - honestly, just from my personal perspective, I find him the most relatable one in the cast (though obviously I don’t relate to everything about him - he’s both more dedicated and angrier than I am). I think he’s really interesting and I appreciate him a lot. 

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Quite a few people, actually. To name: Lara, Dankovsky, and Bad Grief .

My non-romantic OTP for this character: I love the brotherly relationship he has with Artemy, even with all the conflict and complex dynamics that are going on there!

My unpopular opinion about this character: I guess an unpopular opinion is that I believe him when he talks about the way Isidor treated him...

One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon: I wish there was a way to keep him in town in the Diurnal ending without making him an apprentice to Artemy, because not only do I think that role is a disservice to him, I also think it’s a pretty unhealthy position for him to get stuck in and it’d damage not only Rubin but his relationship with Artemy as well. 

My OTP: I already elaborated in the ask about Lara, but yeah, that’s my OTP with him. I think they’d make a total power-couple. Bi rights!

My OT3: Huh, even though I do ship them with both Grief and Lara, I don’t actually ship the three of them as an OT3 together - I don’t think that particular combination would work super well.

thankfully there's key mapping (and 360 controller support if you have one), I'm glad I'm not the only one who's fallen down the fallout rabbit hole. i play most games on pc so i'm the same with consoles tbh. i can remember which is the jump button and that's it.

i’m kinda getting the hang of it, but it’ll be easier as i go along. tbh i just love the game so i dont even care that much.
