a lot of "political commentators" are a little too comfy about saying weird shit about abigail shapiro honestly
like there's this cis guy i usually like who was reacting to her "how to dress modestly if you have a bigger chest" video and he was just. insulting her fashion and making weird comments about her body for the whole 1st half of the video??? when she was just talking about her struggles with dressing how she wants to due to her breast size????
like dude fuck off it's a well-known fact that dressing well with big boobs is harder. back when i didn't bind anything with a slightly plunging neckline made my boobs look even bigger and most other things made me look like a tent, and that made it harder to find clothes for when i didnt want to show my body so YEAH it's a struggle. yes she says some weird shit in that video but maybe DON'T go full "woman look bad because i can't see her tits" on her just because she's a judgemental conservative asshole, that's literally just misogyny!
we just, really need to bring back the old "misogyny is not suddenly ok when it's a woman you dislike" saying because some people really need it drilled into their skull
#shut up sender#abigail shapiro#<- for filtering purposes#also she's been a victim of online aexual harassment for a while now and it's WEIRD that like#people who claim to be allies will just conveniently ignore that fact when they make ''big mommy milkers'' jokes @ her#OBVIOUSLY i think she's a bad person but also like‚ it's still not ok to say shit like that about a stranger online??

There was an incident involving a certain man who set his eyes upon the feet of Abigail Shapiro and passion rose in his heart, to the point that he became deathly ill. And they came and asked doctors what was to be done with him. And the doctors said: He will have no cure until she let him sniff her feet. The Sages said: Let him die, and she may not let him sniff her feet. The doctors said: She should at least let him sniff her worn socks. The Sages said: Let him die, and she may not let him sniff her worn socks. The doctors suggested: The woman should at least let him sniff the water in which she washed her feet, so that he should derive a small amount of pleasure from the smell. The Sages insisted: Let him die, and she may not let him sniff the water in which she washed her feet.

1850-1899
This is part of a series in which I am posting clips of my larger project by decade as I finish them. For more about this project, or to ask me to include your doll or OC, check out my pinned post.
Previous posts:
17th century
1700-1739
1740-1769
1770-1799
1800-1849
The OCs in this post that are mine are Charlotte and Jane, Rachel and Abigail, and Hannah and Delia (they're in pairs because I did the Best Friends series based on @americangirlstar's suggestions, and in the process created a Best Friend for each of my own characters). Héloise and Aoife belong to @autistickirstenlarson, Violette belongs to @getintothesun, and Charlotte belongs to @gardner-n-pardner.
While putting together previous installations I became aware that I have the birth dates wrong for several of the canon characters. I'm planning a redo for the canon character set, eventually, so please do let me know if I'm wrong about anyone. I might already know, but since I have pretty severe dyscalculia as well as ADHD it's not bad to have the info available in multiple places.
I also feel that I should repeat the statement I made before that I had a hard time finding accurate, non-exoticizing references for Kaya, Speaking Rain, and Singing Bird's wardrobes without embarking on a level of research way beyond the scope of this project. If someone is reading this who has familiarity with and access to visual references for 19th century Nimiipuu, Salish, and Dakota/Lakota clothing, and the time and patience to help me understand them, I would be very interested in learning.
1850s
Héloise Cormier: 96-99 Kaya'aton'my: 95-99 Speaking Rain: 95-99 Felicity Merriman: 85-94 Elizabeth Cole: 85-94 Rachel Gabay: 70-79 Abigail Schorr: 70-79 Lydia Livingston: 51-60 Caroline Abbott: 49-58 Clara Montoya: 38-47 Josefina Montoya: 36-45 Hannah Kane: 26-35 Delia Freedman: 26-35 Violette Metoyer: 26-35 Aoife Callaghan: 14-23 Cecile Rey: 8-17 Marie-Grace Gardner: 8-17 Kirsten Larson: 6-15 Singing Bird: 6-15 Charlotte Devereux: 1-10 Addy Walker: 0-5 Sarah Moore: 0-5
Charlotte is a fun and interesting character: I made small edits to some of the base poses I use to accommodate her cane, and larger edits to others. I looked up some photos and videos of children with juvenile arthritis, which Charlotte has, to help get it right. Some of the outfits in Charlotte's collection were repeats, so I picked out a few more outfits from the same period that seem like they fit Charlotte's frilly, floral aesthetic. Meanwhile, this decade, Addy and Sarah are both born into slavery, Héloise, Kaya, and Speaking Rain say goodbye, Cecile and Marie-Grace begin wearing full-length, grown-up dresses, and Clara Montoya, ever sensible, tries out a Bloomer suit but finds that it doesn't make her work enough easier to offset the teasing and doesn't make any more of them.
1860s
Felicity Merriman: 95-99 Elizabeth Cole: 95-99 Rachel Gabay: 80-89 Abigail Schorr: 80-89 Lydia Livingston: 61-70 Caroline Abbott: 59-68 Clara Montoya: 48-57 Josefina Montoya: 46-55 Hannah Kane: 36-45 Delia Freedman: 36-45 Violette Metoyer: 36-45 Aoife Callaghan: 24-33 Cecile Rey: 18-27 Marie-Grace Gardner: 18-27 Kirsten Larson: 16-25 Singing Bird: 16-25 Charlotte Devereux: 11-20 Addy Walker: 6-15 Sarah Moore: 6-15 He-Mei Hsieh: 0-4 Florence Coburn: 0-4 Lucy Morgan: 0-4
He-Mei is a placeholder name that probably isn't right for her character. It's a Mandarin name, and she should have a name in Cantonese. Unfortunately I just don't know enough to be able to pick one out without help, so if someone seeing this who speaks Cantonese has a great idea, I'd love to hear it. Ironically, although AG has never made either a Chinese or significantly Disabled Historical doll, He-Mei and Florence owe the most to existing AG characters out of all my OCs. Maybe it's their dedication to getting into trouble.
1870s
Rachel Gabay: 90-99 Abigail Schorr: 90-99 Lydia Livingston: 71-80 Caroline Abbott: 69-78 Clara Montoya: 58-67 Josefina Montoya: 56-65 Hannah Kane: 46-55 Delia Freedman: 46-55 Violette Metoyer: 46-55 Aoife Callaghan: 34-43 Cecile Rey: 28-37 Marie-Grace Gardner: 28-37 Kirsten Larson: 26-35 Singing Bird: 26-35 Charlotte Devereux: 21-30 Addy Walker: 16-25 Sarah Moore: 16-25 He-Mei Hsieh: 5-14 Florence Coburn: 5-14 Lucy Morgan: 5-14 Gertrude Levy: 0-4 Mabel Kaplan: 0-4 Medha/Mahtab: 0-2
The First Bustle Era, with its big, poofy, drapey bustles, shrinks down into a tight, structured column shape. Florence's chair is based on historical examples: it has two large wheels that she can push in the front and one small wheel in the back. It's heavy and difficult for her to push as a kid, and when He-Mei pushes it she can't always see where they are going. I feel like Addy's school suit, in particular, translates well into these stiffer and more structured styles, and Caroline's Christmas dress isn't bad either. Another one that worked out well is Cécile's parlor outfit.
1880s
Lydia Livingston: 81-90 Caroline Abbott: 79-88 Clara Montoya: 68-77 Josefina Montoya: 66-75 Hannah Kane: 56-65 Delia Freedman: 56-65 Violette Metoyer: 56-65 Aoife Callaghan: 44-53 Cecile Rey: 38-47 Marie-Grace Gardner: 38-47 Kirsten Larson: 36-45 Singing Bird: 36-45 Charlotte Devereux: 31-40 Addy Walker: 26-35 Sarah Moore: 26-35 He-Mei Hsieh: 15-24 Florence Coburn: 15-24 Lucy Morgan: 15-24 Gertrude Levy: 5-14 Mabel Kaplan: 5-14 Medha/Mahtab: 3-12 Diya/Nasreen: 0-9 Harriet Shapiro: 0-4 Matilda Greene: 0-4
There's a lot still undecided about the sisters I originally called Diya and Medha but then considered renaming to Nasreen and Mahtab, depending on what kind of backstory would work best for them. Unfortunately, I know more about clothing history than I do about historical waves of immigration. I still think these characters have a good dynamic with each other and I love how their outfits turned out, but I probably won't be fleshing them out much unless I happen to learn a lot more about their potential backgrounds. For the time being, I'm leaving them in the project but I'm focusing more on characters I don't need to do a lot of original research to develop.
The Second Bustle Era is far more stiff and structured than the first, with heavier fabrics and narrower lines. Even the older girls are wearing bustles, while the younger girls often have large bows at the backs of their dresses in imitation of the bustled silhouette. This project first saw a bustled style in the 1680s, they were most famous in the 1880s, and even today we see them now and then on bridal or red carpet gowns.
1890s
Lydia Livingston: 91-99 Caroline Abbott: 89-98 Clara Montoya: 78-87 Josefina Montoya: 76-85 Hannah Kane: 66-75 Delia Freedman: 66-75 Violette Metoyer: 66-75 Aoife Callaghan: 54-63 Cecile Rey: 48-57 Marie-Grace Gardner: 48-57 Kirsten Larson: 46-55 Singing Bird: 46-55 Charlotte Devereux: 41-50 Addy Walker: 36-45 Sarah Moore: 36-45 He-Mei Hsieh: 25-34 Florence Coburn: 25-34 Lucy Morgan: 25-34 Gertrude Levy: 15-24 Mabel Kaplan: 15-24 Medha/Mahtab: 13-22 Diya/Nasreen: 10-19 Harriet Shapiro: 5-14 Matilda Greene: 5-14 Samantha Parkington: 0-4 Nellie O'Malley: 0-4
The final decade of the 19th century has us saying goodbye to Caroline and Lydia, and hello to Samantha and Nellie. Although it's less dramatic than the first and second bustle eras or even the period between them, this period is surprisingly fun to draw. And it's nice to be ending the century with their wintery formalwear. Happy new year!
As always, to get your historical doll or OC included in this project, HERE'S THE LINK. Obviously if your doll is from earlier than the 20th century they'll have to wait for the next round of drawings, but you're welcome to put them in the form and I'll include them in the next round, which will otherwise focus on the siblings of canon characters.

ok but this last episode of doom patrol really said 'we're doing uncomfortable camp bc even we can't keep up real quirky when it comes to fucked up relationships with fathers'
#by this last episode I mean the Dorothy ep I just realized I haven't watched this last one I think#they really don't fuck around when it comes to dads it's always been hard hitters#I feel like execs pushed this episode or the format on them and everyone went girls at party staring dot jaypeg#bc all of the other episodes where fathers are directly discussed have been extremely heavy#everything with cliff and his daughter and related how Dorothy was placed above clara and how cliff has to try to build a relationship when#30 years have been stolen#everything with Kay and Miranda and Jane especially we saw during her split into existence how that affects the system#Larry as an emotionally distant and critical father and then entirely absent was like. the plot or at least two episodes#and then we get this. dead eyed 'space case is on the case. I guess' 'yeah no I want to stop actively try killing my dad even tho my dad#literally just tried to kill me'#literally Maura lee korupt was sooooo over it. all of us felt ur pain in this episode miss Maura lee#I'm so sorry they put you thru that but them making Abigail Shapiro say love always wins (potentially hundreds of times) is like. beautiful#karmic punishment that I couldn't do better if I tried

Besides the fact xenophobia is just bad, full stop, I implore white queers to think about whether they have literally ever personally experienced religious queerphobia from anyone but christians.
I have never heard of anyone but a small minority of white christians waving around "god hates fags" signs. Every campus preacher I've ever heard of was a white christian. Nearly every law that targets queer people in the US was enacted by white christians.
Obviously there's queerphobia in other religions, but please at least treat those raised in them with the same amount of grace you have for people that were raised christian. If you're going to judge a religion for harming you and your fellow queer people, get realistic and clean up the house you were raised in first.
fun fact! white queers with a victim complex will always be more dangerous to jews and muslims in places like the us than we will ever be to you, particularly if we are also queer. if you see someone in a kippah or turban or hijab and immediately assume they're a threat to you, you might want to unpack that racism.
#tbc this is us-centric as both I and OP and probably most of our followers are in north america#also idek if I've ever met a Jewish person that wasn't queer/an ally. the only ones I can name are ben and abigail shapiro#you're seriously misinformed if you think Judaism is in any way comparable in terms to christianity in terms of queerphobia

any YouTube video essay recs?
I have SO MANY. Some of these blew up enough that you've probably seen them already, but imo they're still a must-watch so I'm going to recommend them anyway.
hbomberguy - you've probably seen hbomb's video on YouTube Plagiarism (as you should, it's excellent) but I also really enjoyed his video on Vaccines and Autism. If you've ever wondered where all the anti-vax conspiracy theories originate from, this video explains it extremely well. His video on the origins of the Roblox Oof sound is incredibly funny and surprisingly thoughtful (watch it until the end, I promise you will not be disappointed). A lot of his video game critique videos are also really enjoyable.
Contrapoints - if you like video essays, then you've almost certainly seen Natalie's work. A few of my favorites include: Shame, Canceling, Gender Critical, and Incels. As you can probably tell from the titles, Natalie covers a wide array of topics - including from dissecting common far-right extremist groups to exploring the queer experience. Honestly, all of her videos are worth a watch, but the few I've listed here are some that I found most insightful and eye-opening.
Overly Sarcastic Productions - if you like literature, history and mythology, you'll enjoy Red and Blue's content! Red covers classic literature, mythology and story tropes, while Blue focuses on history. I love Red's videos especially - her series where she summarizes Shakespeare is one of my favorites.
Philosophy Tube - Do you like philosophy? What if I told you that a beautiful British trans woman could explain philosophy to you, with all the magic of theater? Some of my favorite videos from Abigail include The Rich Have Their Own Ethics and Abortion & Ben Shapiro.
Shanspeare - All of their videos are great, but a few that I remember being especially good were Tradwives and the White Supremacists Who Love Them and Disney, Race-bending and Whimsical Racism. I also really enjoyed their video dissecting the Tortured Artist Trope. Every time I rewatch one of their videos, I still feel like I'm learning something new.

Long Live Abigail Hobbs!
In honor of our best girl I’m sharing my favorite Abigail Hobbs coded songs because she’s quite literally the ghost haunting me. No one deserved her.
Killer- Phoebe Bridgers
“Sometimes I think I’m a killer. I scared you in your house, I even scared myself talking about Dahmer on your couch.”
“I am sick of the chase, but I’m hungry for blood. And there’s nothing I can do.”
Family Tree- Ethel Cain
“I’m just a child but I’m not above violence.”
“Christ forgive these bones in hiding and oh and the bones I’m about to leave.”
Sun-Bleached Flies - Ethel Cain
“God loves you but not enough to save you.”
“But I always knew that in the end no one was coming to save me so I just prayed, and I keep praying and praying. If it’s meant to be then it will be.”
Strangers- Ethel Cain
“I tried to be good, am I no good? With my memory restricted to a Polaroid in evidence.”
“Found you just to tell you I made it real far. And I never blamed you for loving me the way that you did.”
“Am I turning in your stomach? Am I making you feel sick?”
Bite the Hand- Boygenius
“Who do you think you are? Who do you think I am? Maybe I’m afraid of you?”
“I can’t love you how you want me to.”
Vienna (in Memoriam) - the army, the navy
Enough said.
Smother - Daughter
“In the darkness I will meet my creators and they will all tell me I’m a suffocator.”
“Sometimes I wish I had stayed in my mother, never to come out.”
Im Right Here - Theodore Shapiro
The humming and melody feel like what Abigail’s life with Will might have been had they been in WolfTrap instead.
House Song- Searows
“Something is rotten inside me, I have to find it and cut it out.”
Hard Times- Ethel Cain
“Tell me a story about how it ends where you’re still the good guy I make pretend cause I hate this story where happiness ends and dies with you.”
“I thought good guys got to be happy? I’m not happy. I am poison in the water and unhappy. A little girl who needs her daddy real bad.”
“I’m tired of you still tied to me.”
OKAY THATS ALL FOR NOW. Abigail is one of my favorite characters ever and I think her complexity should be observed more. She was a survivor and perceived in the light of those around her and never as she truly was and I mourn her daily. I think about how she deserved to go to school abroad and never want for anything but in the end was a playing pawn in a game between two men who were themselves too terrified and confused to make sense of each other much less her as an independent.
IF YOU WANT MORE HERES MY PLAYLIST FOR HER
