something about how whenever a main female character dies in black sails, there's a man trying to deny his complicity in her death. something about how it's another woman in a position of less power than him - whether his daughter in the case of Peter Ashe, or his prisoner in the case of Woodes Rogers - who refuses to let him avoid his guilt. who tells him no, you may not have pulled the trigger or swung the sword. but YOU killed her.

Thinking of how every single found parent/child relationship (or relationships that get the closest to it) is doomed in Black Sails. Flint and Eleanor. Teach and Vane. Miranda and Abigail. Gates and Billy.

Not a single one of these has both characters survive. Abigail loses her innocence by watching someone who could be a mother figure to her die. Billy would never got as far as he did in season 4 if Gates was alive. Eleanor wouldn't have died if she had stayed on Flint's side. Teach and Vane never had a chance.

‼️BLACK SAILS s1/s2 SPOILER ALERT‼️

the amount of anger i felt towards peter ashe in the final episode of s2…. i really despised him. poor abigail, has to live her life knowing who her father was and all the cruel things he has done. his motifs were so NOT justified. he was just a backstabbing liar in my eyes. i dont even care if season 3 gives more background context about why peter ashe did the things he did, i just despise his character. nothing can justify his acts and how he wronged miranda, james and thomas. those three deserved a fucking happy ending together and he took that away from them, i hate it here

rewatching black sails s2 and the soft flint/miranda/abigail/billy moments before charles town never cease to make me die inside... why couldn't we have had more of that... and more of abigail ashe... her narration was perfect...

when miranda makes up her mind to join flint against his wishes it really feels like the show was ushering in a new era for them. flint seems so much lighter having her with him on his ship.

flint joking with miranda and telling him he recognizes her... her smiles... them sitting around staying up and drinking together... miranda comforting abigail from her nightmares and flint from his fears about what peter ashe thinks of him... flint acknowledging abigail's suffering... flint and miranda sharing knowing looks when abigail was making eyes at billy... flint telling abigail billy's name and basically more about his backstory than we'd ever learned previously because he decided to ship them in the span of their 3 second exchange of glances... abigail going to flint and miranda to warn them about her father... miranda reminding flint that killing lord hamilton was her idea & that they share that darkness... miranda insisting on going with flint to peter ashe... miranda screaming trying to save flint when the guards started beating him... abigail using her courage to threaten the guards to save flint and miranda... miranda smoothing her hair and clothes preparing to see peter again... flint asking miranda if everything is okay and her telling him yes...

The way that XII subtly parallels Flint's memories of trying to talk Thomas out of his plans to save Nassau, with Flint asking Silver to tell him why people oppose his plan to remove Vane from the fort. The way you can see in Flint's expression, he got this from Thomas. He knows the value in asking someone to explain exactly why they could be in the wrong, before you become fully certain you're in the right. The way he's still hung up on this dichotomy of being the hero or the villain, even though he's now trying to be the hero to the people of Nassau, while England is his own personal villain, his own monster. All the while not knowing he's about to discover the daughter of the friend who secretly betrayed him, and lead to this entire ordeal, the entire creation of Flint. A series of events which will inevitably lead him to entirely surrender James Mcgraw, and become entirely the monster. Become entirely James Flint.
