What are Mystique’s favorite things about living with The Folk? Does she like anyone in her household better than another? What does that silly kitty get up to when she’s happy and loved?

Her favorite things are probably tasty treats and soft beds. She's a very expensive, very loved kitty and she's vocal about what she wants so she gets a lot of special attention. When she's not exploring she's lounging on top of the cooling vent or on her owner's laptop. Every now and then they fill a little pool for her to splash around in or take her out to the river to splash around. I don't think she has a favorite family member, although if she had to pick it would probably be one of the adult folk since kids are kind of stressful for cats.

Two of the Clans’ largest legends would undoubtedly make the most loyal, fierce warrior possible… Right?

MEET: Gingersnap, previously Leopardglow

Born just after Firestar’s rise to leadership and named after Tigerstar’s late mother, Leopardglow was loud, energetic, and friendly from the very moment she opened her eyes — much to the disdain of her ThunderClan Clanmates. Despite Firestar’s blood running through her veins, ThunderClan would have much rather had nothing to do with Tigerstar’s spawn, and while her half-siblings Brambleclaw and Tawnypelt were content to settle into the shadows while they grew, and linger there even after Tigerstar’s death, Leopardglow simply could not.

Too extroverted for her own good, Leopardglow did everything she possibly could to bolster her reputation within the Clan — within all the Clans — in a desperate bid to make friends and feel seen and supported. She trained herself relentlessly into a decent hunter and better fighter, and, for a while, seemed to have finally wiggled her way into ThunderClan’s good graces and affections… Until she unsheathed her claws one day, and found herself unable to withdraw them. Tigerstar’s claws, whispered the Clans. A bad omen.

For a time, Leopardglow still relentlessly tried to make herself into a friend to anyone, but not even her slightly older half siblings through Tigerstar, nor her little half siblings through Firestar, seemed to want much to do with her. So, she turned to what felt like a last resort, driven by desperation and loneliness: her father’s birthplace, the Twoleg Houses.

She was quickly scooped up by a loving pair of housefolk due to her unusual coat, who named her “Gingersnap”: a name she adopted with great joy and pride. While she wasn’t very welcomed on the streets — her reputation as the daughter of both Scourge’s assailant and murderer preceded her —, her fellow kittypets were warm and friendly, and found themselves often drawn to her for her grand stories of being born wild, as well as her overall joyous nature. While some cats do find her a bit overbearing, the two cats she shares her home with — another ex-Clan cat who took the name Whiskers, and a pampered purebred named Hera — love listening to Gingersnap’s stories, adore her bold nature, and are deeply fond of her overall.

In her new home, Gingersnap finally found the acceptance and love she so dearly craved.

Hi! I just wanted to let you know that I really loved your rewrite! Honestly I was so excited for each story beat that I finished it in a day and a half! I love the magic and mystics that you added and how you fleshed out Star Clan and other gods, the guardian stones were always my favorite whenever they came up, I enjoyed that Firepaw was able to make his own decisions and was more proactive than his original character, who I found was plot-dumb most of the time. My apologies for being elderly- I don’t think many of you will remember this- but there was a Dungeons & Dragons movie released in 2000. I had been interested in the game, but at the ripe old age of ten years old, I thought this movie was so bad (even though Thora Birch is in it wearing cool outfits) that it turned me off DnD for years.

Anybody know where I can watch it online? 😅

I have so much empathy for Mystique, I love how you depict her postpartum, the way Russetfrond clearly reads her as ‘mopey’ and ‘spoiled’ when she probably feels pretty terrible being the brood mare for his litter, forced to live without the comforts she loves, not able to go home, forced to watch them celebrate the killing of her brother. She’s clearly going through a lot and no one really cares because she’ll be gone soon.

Barley girl is all grown up! I love that she’s steadfast to her morals, it was super brave of her to stand up to her mentor like she did and she deserves some credit for it! I’m not surprised Yarrow was out for revenge in the moment but I’m sure he would have regretted it, he has a big heart 💜 Nightfrost would be proud of how well he trained Barley

Oh definitely. Barley I think gets the "Most Improved" trophy out of the Oddlets. She's really come into her own and I'm so proud of her. Yarrow is too, even if he was frustrated in the moment.

Is Mystique feeling a big litter or a small one? Does she know at this point? I hate how withdrawn she’s gotten since the battle, I wish someone would comfort her.

If you ask Oddstripe, she's looking at a small litter.

And GOD you're so fucking right. Smokyrose would 100% feel for Mystique and try to reach out to her. Oddstripe is trying but he doesn't have the quiet patience she did to keep trying when Mystique closes herself off. God, imagine if she were still around 😭

They shouldn't be. I'll take a look at it and see. I have had issues though where certain posts just dont show up in a tag search. Blame tumblr I guess.

Also! Russet naming his sons! I love the bond he already feels with them, though his emphasis on his ‘ultimate legacy’ is hilarious to me, he really thinks a lot of himself! Also him reading Mystique as childish when he’s letting himself get riled up by her attitude, as soon as he walked in it felt like he was just itching for a reason to be rude toward Mysti.

I wonder if Blue will end up looking too much like Razor for Scorch, as he gets older he might take on more of Mysti’s features

While he does have a bit of an ego, I would also argue that he doesn't think that much of himself he just has extremely inflated expectations he feels he has to meet and one of those things is being a cat worthy of a legacy.

I agree though, it is interesting that he sees her as childish while being very similar in behavior. Very patriarchal of him, imo

I would love if you opened up a Patreon or a Ko-fi, me personally I love supporting works that have so much effort and care put into them, as for Patreon rewards you could do little things like “every Friday you can ask a character/author a question and get a spoiler-lite answer” or we learn about a random background character that the fans choose if that makes sense, honestly even if you don’t do anything like that I would love if you opened a tip jar 💜

I think tumblr is getting rid of the tip jar feature haha but if Patreon doesn't play out I would gladly create a Ko-fi.

I'd be happy to do some kind of Q+A thing but I'd want to find a way to make it so that any asks I received on Tumblr wouldn't be exactly the same. Like I wouldn't want to stop answering asks on tumblr but I also wouldn't want to have people paying for the exact same thing. And I'm not sure I would be down with "In Character" Q+A's just because I feel like I would be clunky and awkward haha.

I did just have the idea though that maybe I could do like... Character analyisis or breakdown things? Not sure how that would format but I LOVE talking about a character's motivations and history and behavior and stuff.
