The clues about Abigail's father (Abigail movie)

I watched Abigail for a second time. Originally I thought there were only twp hints that she's Dracula's daughter. Now I realize there were more. The Invitation (2022) was much more obvious with its many blatant clues that DeVille was Dracula. (Note: Deville happens to be an alias Dracula used in the original Dracula novel.) Here are the Abigail clues that her father is not merely a vampire but Count Dracula himself. 1. Abigail's father is a crime lord. If you read the novel Dracula you will notice that Dracula speaks a LOT like the leader of an organized crime syndicate with careful wording and phrases. 2. It's implied (you don't see it happen but it's heavily suggested) that Abigail is the rat running around the house fairly early on in the movie. Dracula is probably the most famous vampire with animal shape-shifting powers. 3. Though Abigail does burn in the sun (in the novel Dracula was able to walk around by day, he was just weaker by day) she regenerates lost limbs like a fast version of Deadpool. This is a pretty advanced power and suggests she is of some high status in most vampire lore.

4. Abigail is far stronger than most fictional vampires. Also suggesting at some high status in the vampire world. 5. The mural in the house resembles Poenari castle, AKA The real Castle Dracula. Bran Castle is used for tourism since it's pretty and easy to access but Poenari Castle is the actual castle that Vlad the Impaler is supposed to have resided in. 6. The mural of what looks like Poenari castle has bat winged creatures flying around it. 7. Abigail implies that her mind control / ghoul creating powers (Sammy) come from years of practice and obviously a newbie vampire can't do that.

8. Early on in the film before the kidnapping, Abigail's bedroom mirror is covered. This suggests that like the traditional depiction of Dracula she does NOT cast a reflection. In The Invitation the bedroom mirror is completely missing and "out for repairs." The Invitation goes more out of its way to point out the missing mirror while the covered mirror in Abigail is more subtle. 9. The gate in the foyer has a family crest that resembles the sigil of The Order of the Dragon. It depictions a dragon. The family of the dragon = Dracul. 10. When Abigail's father shows up at the end he says he has had many names over the centuries. A similar line is said by DeVille in The Invitation but he's more blunt about it in saying that his favorite alias was one that means "Son of the Dragon." (Dracula). 11. Abigail's father looks and dresses like a classic depiction of Count Dracula. 12. The opening song (and apparently Abigail's favorite song) is Swan Lake. On the Phillip Glass soundtrack inserted version of the 1931 Dracula movie, the opening song is also Swan Lake. 13. All of Abigail's father's teeth are pointed, much like Nicolas Cage's depiction of Dracula for the movie Renfield that came out just last year. 14. Abigail can fly, another power Dracula usually has, along with the agility she needs for her ballerina moves. 15. Much like with the novel Dracula, to become a full vampire, you have to be drained, and then fed a vampire's blood. 16. Abigail's father kisses the back of Joey's hand, much like cliche depictions of Count Dracula, and is imitated by Jerry Dandridge in the original 1985 Fright Night. 17. Abigail's father is referred to as the anti-Christ. Dracula translates to Son of the Dragon in the original fifteenth century language but in modern Romanian it has a secondary translation. "Son of The Devil." (Note: Dracula is not literally the son of any devil. His surname come from his father's membership to The Order of The Dragon.) Bonus: Abby / Abigail is the name of the child vampire in the Hammer film "Let me In" which is a very loose (and kind of dumbed down) remake of the Swiss vampire film, Let the Right One In where the child vampire (actually a eunuch boy passing as a girl) is named Eli.

The fire crackled in the hearth, casting long shadows over the stone walls and the rug they lay atop. Abby’s slender fingers picked the tangles from Wylla’s curls, the gentle motion lulling her into that place between dreaming and waking. From above her, her friend's soft, lilting voice took life.

The River Tongue was not so different from Old Tongue, and Wylla could not keep the smile from her face as she picked out the familiar words. “I’ll be your water, bathing you clean…,” she murmured in common. 

“Do you know this one?” Abby asked, brushing the hair from her forehead. 

Wylla shook her head. “Our languages were one once. They aren’t so different now.” She turned onto her side, facing the fire fully, watching as the embers hissed and popped, seeking air. “I can’t imagine how lonely it must have been sometimes, to be so young, surrounded by dragons when the rivers call to you.”

“In truth, I spent so long trying not to think of home, of what I had lost to Harrenhal. I was just glad to have a place here, where I was not alone. But I feel the call. Each time we venture to the cabin I feel the pull to the God’s Eye, to the creeks and the marshes.”

“To the waters that will bathe you clean.” Wylla’s smile faltered a bit as she tucked her hands beneath her chin. Abby pulled the blanket more securely around her shoulders. “Our blood is older even than theirs.”

“And I am less lonely with you.” She could hear the truth of it in the other girl's words. “Tell me what you miss of home.”

Wylla’s eyes burned at the memories of snow drifts taller even than her father, of the hunting and the hawking, and the magnificence of the waves breaking against the Gray Cliffs. “I miss the bite of frost at my cheeks. I miss seeing the foxes in their dens and the howl of the wolves when night lasted longer than day. The midnight sky would melt into purple and green and blue, a spill of paint. I miss the way that the land seemed to stretch on forever. It made me feel so small, but I was not afraid.”

Abby sat back, leaning against the chair behind her. “You are descended from the Winter Kings, you were never small, Wylla.”

“Did you not feel small standing before the God’s Eye as a girl?”

“No. I felt powerful, like it was mine. I felt connected to the land in a way I haven’t since.”

Wylla laughed. “Spoken like the true however many times great granddaughter of Osmund Strong.” In a softer voice, she added, “This city makes me feel small…insignificant.”

“None of that, now,” Abby chided gently. “You are the daughter of an ancient house, with the blood of Bran the Builder in your veins. And well, we all know I’m secretly a nymph,” she chuckled.

“The Fox and the Nymph," Wylla whispered, turning to glance up at her friend.

Abby laid a kiss to her fingers, pressing them to Wylla’s forehead. “I would read that story.”

A: Aptitude

1. what are your oc’s natural abilities, things they’ve been doing since young?

Abigail grew up in a homestead off the grid, and as the eldest child was taught from a very young age to have the place working like clockwork whenever her parents were not there. Foraging, hunting, fishing, gardening, preserving food, cooking, cleaning, fixing up stuff, she knows how to competently do a little bit of everything. When it comes to abilities she is drawn to, she has always been into crafting, the more practical kind, like knitting and embroidering, as well as physical activities, in particular hiking and horseback riding.

2. what activities have they participated in?

All of the ones mentioned above, naturally, but after moving away from her hometown to Boston in order to pursue her career, her life became rather boring, and she feels like there are lots of things she wanted to try and never managed to. Mostly group sports and activities, and in particular she always wanted to have some dance lessons.

3. what abilities do they have that they’ve worked for?

Her academia-related skills, like research, critical thinking, writing. On a practical side, cooking: she has never been a bad cook, seeing as she's had tons of practice cooking for her family growing up, but her husband would always complain that it was atrocious. Being the incredibly devoted woman she is, she went out of her way to take different culinary courses to try and please him, though she never succeeded.

4. what things are they bad at?

She can fix small things, do simple household maintenance, but anything that needs built or requires more detailed, technical work she is going to need help with. Pre-war it was simple enough to solve, seeing as she lived in the city and could always hire someone to do things, but post-war it becomes a nuisance because well, nothing works and there is no one around nine times out of ten. She feels it the most when it comes to weapon maintenance - she can clean a gun and keep it working but the moment things go wrong or she needs to build a modification from scratch she's fucked. The worst part is that she knows the theory, she just never manages to get it right.

5. what is their most impressive talent?

Her mind for strategy and battle planning. It is something she had to work for, seeing as she studied military history for most of her academic career, but she took to it far easier than she thought possible considering it was never her goal to begin with. This, paired with her connections, eventually translated into an invitation to work as a consultant for the army, though she only did it briefly and was on her way up the ladder when the bombs fell. Somewhat not surprisingly given her background, she is also an incredible shot, in particular at mid to short range. She is good with a scope and thus a decent sniper, but a simple iron sight lever-action rifle or a revolver is what she excels at.

D: Decoration

1. how would they decorate a house if they had one under their name?

Her experiences with decorating a house were rather guided, or rather she had her work cut out for her - at first she was in charge of her family home and it was passed onto her as it was, and when you have an eight year old to take care of at thirteen while also trying to make ends meet and not drop out of school there is little time to consider aesthetics. After that she got married and moved to Boston, where she was promptly introduced to different societal standards that she felt pressured into following. Her home decor always followed the latest fashion regardless of her own personal opinion, something her husband encouraged and would sometimes berate her for. Post-war she busies herself with all the work she can get her hands on, and remains without a proper home for over a year, just camping here and there. Even when she does settle somewhere it's all barebones for the longest time, nothing that feels like her or gives away any clues as to who actually lives there. On her list of priorities her own likes and dislikes and personal comfort are pretty low, so she tends to see that domesticity as pointless though she admits she sometimes craves it.

2. how would they decorate their child’s room?

She didn't have much of a say in decorating Shaun's room, so it was magazine copied, boring wallpaper, cars and trucks and rockets, modern furniture and bleached linens. If she were to find her son again, or to have another child, she would want to fill it with things that have meaning on an emotional level - things she made herself, or that were gifted by people that care about them. It would be more feeling than thinking, not much care for whether the colors match or the textures go together so long as it felt homey and just plain made her happy. At this point though, she kind of wishes she will not have another child's room to decorate ever again, at least not of a child who came out of her.

3. how do they decorate their own room?

She doesn't! Not at first, anyway. Pre-war it was boring, and in her eyes cold and sterile. Post-war she's happy enough with a sleeping bag somewhere dry. Over time, as she becomes more aware she is still a person and allowed to enjoy things, she begins to slowly grow some sense of style and realize that things don't need to be practical to be valid. The same theme of stuff being emotionally relevant applies here - she doesn't care if things don't look perfect, if they're a little rustic or rough around the edges. She is all about comfort and coziness, worn and well-loved belongings. A fireplace, a nice soft rug and a quilt are all a must, however. As is embroidery on the wall that is super cool looking and well made from afar but reads something sassy when you look closely, like a garland of flowers with "bite me" in the center.

4. what type of clothes and accessories do they wear?

Her fashion sense was one of the few things that were truly her own in her previous life. Being in academia, in the middle of a bunch of middle aged white men who thought she only had half a brain for having a uterus, she always made sure to dress formal; she had something to prove and that something was that she was the smartest one in the room and she looked better than all of them while at it. Her style sometimes came across as too masculine for the times, because you would never find her in a skirt or a dress and she looked better than any man in a vest and tie. After the bombs she finds no reason to dress up so much and makes a return to her countryside fashion roots. If it's sturdy, practical and comfortable, she wears it. Usually ends up somewhere between that dark academia and cowgirl aesthetic. Keeps her hair braided most of the time and it's hard to catch her not wearing a hat. Accessory-wise she doesn't wear much, and was quick to dispose of both her own and her husband's wedding band, once she found the damn thing, and that was basically all the jewelry she's ever owned. As a history nerd she is fond of vintage things, however, in particular brooches and lockets. She finds a nice, handpainted locket in her travels and falls in love with it, being one of the few valuable things she has kept, but doesn't actually wear it. It is empty and she has no one anymore she cares about enough to want to carry with her always, though she keeps hoping against hope she'll find something special to place within.

5. do they like makeup/nail/beauty trends?

She did, but never found the time or courage to allow herself to do any of it. The only time she wore makeup was to her wedding, and she felt like the prettiest woman alive; her husband later ruined that for her by saying she looked weird and shouldn't try to look like something she was not. The only thing she did, self-care and beauty wise, was do her nails sometimes, but always in somber, dark colors.

F: Fun

1. what do they do for fun?

For most of her life, not a damn thing. Until she was around eight she spent most of her time with her grandparents, and those are the best memories she has. Lots of quality time and trying out different activities, exploring her creative side, or just being a kid and having fun. After they passed, her father abandoned the family and her mother died, it all went to shit. Growing up she was busy being a student, employee and big sister, so any time she was not studying she was working, and any time she was not working she was taking care of the house or of her brother. Her only respite was sleep and even then if the kid got sick she would stay up for as long as necessary to make sure he was doing alright. Then Nate came along, and on top of all that she also became a girlfriend and then a wife to a man who did nothing for himself. Strangely, it is after her husband abandons her that she starts feeling alive. She had just given birth to Shaun and was working double to keep her bills paid, but without that sorry excuse for a man to take up her time she found herself being able to enjoy her son and time alone with herself. She picks up a few hobbies, reads up those books that had been on her list for years, and even finds the time to invite the nice librarian she had been talking to on and off with over for dinner. She is having fun, dating a nice gal and getting her career in order, things are finally looking up, then the world ends, and she promptly forgets all about it and dives headfirst back into a different kind of work. It takes her the longest time to let herself be again after the vault, because worrying about something or another, or thinking up this giant, convoluted plan keeps her from thinking about everything else, in particular all the loss and abuse she had been through all those years. Deep down she just wants peace, some quiet time doing things she enjoys, and a party every now and again to let loose.

2. what is their ideal party?

She has only been to a few parties while in college, and everything else she ever participated in was this serious event meant for networking. She very much enjoyed partying, however, given that the environment was right. Not the go out dancing kind, not the loud music dozens of people kind, either, though she won't turn it down. A small gathering with close friends, nice conversation and some alcohol is her kind of thing. She does, however, tend to go a little overboard with the alcohol part. Not because she drinks too much, but because she is a lightweight who knows her limits yet if we're not pushing those limits then what's the point? She never drinks, but when she does she'll dance on top of a table, make out with someone, laugh until she loses her voice then pass the fuck out. It is also one of the few situations when she drops the smart academia girl act and her West Virginia accent comes out. Since settling down she has not had the opportunity to do any of that.

3. who would they have the most fun with?

Someone she trusts, and who's willing to not dig into her for her behavior. Abigail is this very guarded, cold and strict person when working, and most people don't really bother to try and speak to her when she's off duty, so it's rare for her to spend time with anyone, really. Her requirements for friendship are not difficult - she just needs someone who will not judge her and criticize her for every little thing she does like her husband and her extended family did. She is very good at silent agreements, if something embarrassing happened to either one, the other or between the two she's not bringing it up. Did something silly you're not exactly proud of? Not a word. All she needs is someone who'll do the same for her.

4. can they have fun while conforming to rules?

She is not the kind to break rules, so yes. More the bending the rules or finding a loophole kind. The one thing she does to amuse herself while not being rude or openly defiant about it is mock the Brotherhood of Steel in her head. Maxson annoys her into joining and she avoids it for the longest time, so making stupid jokes in her mind was the only thing she could do to pass the time while he yapped on. First time someone passed by wearing that tight suit? Ass victoriam. Soldiers out training? Abs victoriam. Maxson giving a speech to convince people to fight on? Ads victoriam. Quinlan needs you to fill this form. Apps victoriam. Squire told on you? Rats victoriam. Feeling sleepy? Naps victoriam. Cute puppy? Pats victoriam. It gets more and more disconnected from the original term over time and progressively more amusing to her, but she never really tells anyone.

5. do they go out a lot?

Not really, not for fun anyway. Definitely did not enjoy her teenage years or early adulthood, was always responsible for someone else and when she earned her freedom she went out and found another thing to be responsible for. It's a cycle she can't seem to break. Her husband barely took her out to dinner or anything, they had known each other for years, were both raised religious and she figured life was more work than fun and that's it. Nate quickly got addicted to the fun part of city living, though, and it is one of the reasons he leaves. She goes out even less after that. Post-vault she is always out and about, invited to visit here and there, but again not for fun. She sometimes allows herself to walk somewhere pretty where she can watch the sunrise, but only if it's on the way to wherever she's going. Night of partying in Diamond City or Goodneighbor? Never. Would she like to? Absolutely.

for Bran:

J: Joy

1. what makes them happy?

Scrap metal, broken appliances that he can fix, brahmin, dogs, a high place he can perch on to watch the horizon. Blueprints, sketching things that he can see, an ice cold beer and a hot bowl of soup. Laughing with his favorite people, dick jokes, fart jokes, being complimented for having a nice ass.

2. who makes them happy?

Not many people, actually. He had a handful of friends before the war but they all scattered after a while, off to build their own families and busy with fatherhood. After the war he takes some time to warm up to people, mostly because he is incredibly sullen and suspicious of everything. He had been cheated on, lied to, broken up with and even though it has technically been 200 years it was like yesterday for him. Later on, he becomes close friends with Piper and Nat, as well as Preston and Nick, and feels content with having just a small circle of people he cherishes.

His favorite person, however, who never fails to make him happy, is his wife-that-is-not-technically-his-wife, lady Victoria herself. He's not sure how he got so lucky, that such an incredible woman puts up with his idiocy, but he is definitely not complaining. He feels guilty that he mourned Bethany's loss so little, and was so quick to move on considering they had been together for most of their lives, yet he is so happy in this new relationship that he ends up forgetting anyway.

3. are there any songs that bring them joy?

Not really. Bran is not the most artistic type, and doesn't pay much attention to music, in particular lyrics. He can appreciate the cheerful vibes from a good swing song, but is not about to sing or dance. More often then not he tunes out while he's working, so the music is just background static. A slight butt wiggle is the most joy you're going to get from him when it comes to music.

4. are they happy often?

Strangely, yes! After the first few months in the wasteland, he manages to cycle back to his usual bubbly self. Serious when he's working, but just a friendly face with a scary reputation otherwise. Life has treated him so harshly, and he is not the best when it comes to dealing with his own emotions, so he is just always trying to find something to smile about, which is not difficult at all. Is his happiness genuine? Most of the time. Is there much he should be dealing with instead of plugging the holes with denial? Also yes.

5. what brings them the most joy in the world?

He never truly gets to experience such joy, but that would be children. His dream in life was to become a dad, he thought he had reached the promised land, only to find that his wife had had an affair for years and Shaun wasn't really his. Having a kid of his own would be the most amazing thing in the world for him, but he is at peace with life and his choices. The fact that he is able to help so many children through his work with the Minutemen is also comforting for him; his purpose in life has always been to serve and to make people happy, and when he realizes he's done just that it's touching every time.

O: Optimism

1. are they optimistic or pessimistic?

Mostly optimistic/realistic, though people don't usually go to him for advice or cheering up - which is very wise, come to think of it. He has a tendency to put his foot in his mouth when trying to go over emotional things, so he avoids it as much as possible. Which sometimes means being optimistic even though he knows better or really thinks things are going to get well and truly fucked. He is not good at reading between the lines and figuring out what people need from him from an emotional standpoint, so his solution is to always try and find the silver lining, even if he doesn't believe it himself.

2. are they openly optimistic, throwing it on others?

To someone who doesn't know him very well, yes, actually. He is this quiet man who enjoys working on vehicles and robots and everything in between yet every time someone talks to him they'll get a nice smile and a warm welcome. How are the kids? How is the spouse? You're looking great! That scar healed over well, huh? He figures by being outwardly bubbly people will think everything is alright with him and won't ask, so he doesn't have to deal with the mess of feelings that has been entangled within him for the past 30 years.

3. are they good at giving advice?

Depends on what kind of advice. In matters of the heart? Horrible, absolutely horrible. He will always tell you to try things, even when you really should just let it go. Go ask that person out, go flirt with them, buy them a beer! What could possibly go wrong? He doesn't do it out of malice, it's just that these things have always been fairly simple to him: he wants something, he asks, if the person says yes then score, if the person says no then oh, well. Not usually one to suffer with rejection or let people's opinions of him get him down, and he tries to pass that onto people who ask him for advice. He just forgets not everyone has his confidence and carefree attitude.

When it comes to practical matters, though, go to him. Need something fixed? If he doesn't know how to he'll learn and help you. Can't figure something out? He's got you, will straight up work all night to solve it. And the bigger the challenge, the more he likes it.

4. is there anyone in their life that throws optimism on them?

It is pretty rare, because he's very good at masking and doesn't often share his burdens so people take it at face value and think he's just this happy guy with no problems. It is how he prefers it, so more often than not he is the one doing the cheering up, though some optimism and words of encouragement do help tons, much as he doesn't like to admit it.

5. were they always optimistic?

Not always, but early enough in life. He came from an abusive household, was left behind by his mother in said abusive household, grew up taking care of himself and planning his escape plan for years. By the time his teen years hit he was already down in the dirt and being depressed wasn't getting him anywhere. The beatings still happened, his mom was still gone, and working his ass off in school wasn't working as he intended. So he figured that it was time to change tactics, and adopted a "soldier on" attitude with a smile on his face. (He also skimmed off a chunk of his father's business profits every month since he was around 13. Money was never a problem and he was being taught to take over, so access wasn't an issue. He then used the money to run away and start life over.)

T: Truth

1. are they honest?

Yes, though not always by choice. He would like to be able to lie and deceive every now and again, but he straight up can't. His voice changes, he giggles, his smile looks different. You can always tell when he's not being truthful so more often than not he doesn't even try. The only problem is that he can be a little out there, so sometimes even when he's not lying he can be a little absurd and sound like it. He's learned the hard way that karma finds you eventually, so he avoids cheating other people or trying to take advantage of them. As it turns out, being so honest makes it very easy.

2. can they tell if someone is lying?

If he tries? Yes. Most of the time, though, he doesn't really try, because he doesn't care if the person is lying. Depending on the magnitude and kind of lie it might lead him to fight someone over it, but more often than not he doesn't care. Bran can often give off himbo vibes, but he is a lot sharper than he lets on. If he figures out you're lying, he will treat you accordingly. Never openly defy you or confront you, but you've lost his trust and he now knows better than to let you in on his plans.

3. is it obvious when they’re lying?

Way too obvious, so he would rather lie by omission rather than trying to actually tell a lie. He giggles, his voice gets deeper, it sounds more like irony than anything else. He is shit at poker for this very reason. He rarely finds reason to lie, however, and would rather just be brazen and tell the person the truth to their face. Has been punched in the face because of it a couple of times.

4. have they lied about anything they regret lying about?

He never came clean regarding his affairs in the past, not fully, and for years he felt horrible about it. He cheated on his wife twice, gave a half-assed apology for the first but never mentioned the second. Later on he felt like it was his fault that Bethany cheated on him and hid so much from him, all because he never found the courage to tell her the truth though she probably knew about it all regardless. From that point on, seeing as he got a second chance at life with the bombs, he decided there was no point, and he no longer had time, to be hiding shit from people. He says what he needs to say, and deals with whatever consequences as they pop up.

5. have they told truths that have been spread against their will?

Possibly? He tends to be quite chatty when off duty, and considering his tendency to put his foot in his mouth he likely has spread shit he didn't mean to. Cares very little, though, until someone is affected and comes talk to him about it. He will do his best to repair the damage he's caused. The same thing of being horrible with matters of the heart applies here: don't ever tell Brandon you're interested in someone or have fallen for someone. It will probably reach that person's ears. Not that he will bring it up, but as life happens and conversations flow the memory will pop up in his head and he'll go the "oh yeah they're really interested in you actually". It may have worked once or twice, but more often than not it's embarrassment fest and this shameless idiot is like oh lol yeah shouldn't have said anything.
